#13: Mike Ryskamp & Andy Allen - Improv your LIFE with the Pop Scholars

Pop Scholars: Mike Ryskamp & Andy Allen

I had the privilege to sit down with a couple of former college classmates of mine, 2 gents that I’m humbled to also call co-members of our college improv team from some 15 years ago.  Mike Ryskamp and Andy Allen.

We’ve each had different journeys since then and perhaps most notable is that they continued to perform improv after graduation, whereas I did not. Oh, and they are also still extremely hilarious, while I’ve spent the last 12+ years as an accountant. I’ll leave that one there. And finally, they are currently celebrating their 10th season with their improv group, Pop Scholars, along with the other 2 members Dave Lyzenga and Matt Sterenberg.  These guys are incredible at what they do and after listening for just a few minutes I think you’ll agree.

Mike, Andy and I talk about a variety of things including 4-man bikes, blanking on stage and how life is one giant improv scene. It is easy to see how great a tool improv is for life, but also how it serves as a powerful metaphor. You only get better, and it only gets easier after lots of effort, various failures, and hopeful persistence.

You can find out more about these guys individually on Twitter and Facebook, and also at popscholars.com – which is where you’ll also find their show schedule. So, go and check them out… but before you do that, please enjoy my conversation with one half of the Pop Scholars, Mike Ryskamp and Andy Allen.

Enjoy!
