Talking Veterinary Happiness with Veterinary Nurse Turned Happiness Researcher, Cordene Midgley
Sep 26, 2022 Episode 22

#022 - Cordene Midgley is a multi-passionate veterinary nurse who has had quite the squiggly career. After discovering a passion for business and marketing during her time with Hill's Pet Nutrition, she then went on to obtain her MBA. It was during this time Cordene began to delve into the field of veterinary happiness, where she started to seek out the answers to the question - What are the factors that affect the happiness of veterinarians? (Spoiler alert: you can check out her research paper here https://doi.org/10.3138/jvme-2020-0033).

During the episode, Cordene sheds some light on a number of different factors that can contribute to veterinary happiness. She discusses how happiness is not the negation of unhappiness; how nurturing our areas of strength rather than trying to improve our areas of weakness can exponentially increase career satisfaction; the importance of community; and the very important concept that not all leisure activities are created equal.

As the co-creater of our 100 Days of Happy Challenge: The Veterinary Edition, Cordene also shares with us her challenge journey. She talks about how she now favours progress over perfection, and how the challenge has helped her to be kinder to herself and has allowed her to live a life that is closer to where she wants it to be.
