Brittany Herzberg:you will learn exactly how to take simple and smart action with step by step walkthroughs. And quick explanations of how your effort will impact your business's search ability.
Crystal Waddell:And now it's time for this week's SEO short. Okay, welcome back. Today we are talking about internal linking, how to do it, why to do it, where to do it, what it does for you all that type of stuff. So are you ready to jump into this be so ready?
Brittany Herzberg:I love links. Wait.
Crystal Waddell:Yeah, I love links. I love it, we're gonna have a T shirt says I love links. What are links in SEO?
Brittany Herzberg:They connect. I'm so sorry. All the coffee is like, charged into my bloodstream. So links really do connect things. When we're talking about internal links. It's connecting something from one page of your website to another page of your website. Does that sound a little bit more professional?
Crystal Waddell:Yeah, I think that's exactly right. The other thing I would just say is that, you know, a good reason to use them is that it gives search engines kind of like a hierarchy of your site. And you know, kind of shows google how to navigate your site, like kind of gives it a pathway. So that's kind of something I would add there. So how do you use them, like on your site or for clients?
Brittany Herzberg:Oh, actually, one way that I really, really used them recently has been with case studies. So I build these case studies, which are like on web pages of their own. And it's just this happy marriage of SEO, including links, and storytelling. So throughout that page I'm using that is one of the windows or doors that I talked about to get into your quote unquote, home, which is your website, any of your not creepy, not stalkerish ways to like access your website to get someone in your world. And with these case studies, I love to be like, okay, you know, we're going to introduce the business owner, and then we're going to link to their about page. And then we're going to introduce his client and talk about the service that they opted into or sign up for, we can link out to that services page. Maybe you're giving a little bit of insight into your process and maybe have a blog post about that you could link out to that blog post. So hopefully that gives you an idea of at least how I've been using it with myself and with my clients. What about you? Do you have like a certain link Ealing thing that you do?
Crystal Waddell:Well, I love how you just explain that because I was always interested in how you did that as a case study. So yeah, I think that's great. The other thing that I use it for is like say I'm doing a content cluster for a client, and we're trying to target a specific keyword. But you know, it's kind of like there's a whole bunch of different articles about that topic. internal linking is the strategy I use to drive traffic from, you know, the main blog article, to the smaller supporting articles. So that's another way if the articles are related, you can add links so people can kind of, you know, find out more information about whatever topic you're talking about. Yeah, totally.
Brittany Herzberg:And even think about, for you listening. Think about what it's like going to the website, you know, you're interested in working with someone or you're trying to figure out an answer to something that you're searching for, like this morning, I was talking with someone about recording a video, or working in MailChimp. You're curious, you have questions, you go to the site, and you're like, Okay, that didn't answer my question. But is this related thing maybe available? That's what you're trying to do for your website visitor. You're trying to help them navigate your site by guiding them with these links.
Crystal Waddell:Exactly. So I believe we have a call to action, a homework assignment of sorts. For you, our dear listener, Sophie, would you like to share that?
Brittany Herzberg:I love giving homework, I always joke. If I wanted to be a teacher from the age of like, five up until I was like 17 and realize that I didn't want that life path. I always joked with my friends, I was like, I'm gonna be like the hardest teacher because I love giving homework. I just like encouraging people to think through things and put these things into practice. So your homework is to share one example of an internal link you have on your site. It could be something that you've linked, you know, like we were talking about a blog today about page. It could be something you've done previously. It could be something you're inspired to do today after listening to the how to. You don't have to tell us when you did this, but let us know you have a link on this page and it's taking someone over here and just a reminder. Again, the internal linking is what's happening only on your site. There's another type of linking. But this is only what's happening on your site.
Crystal Waddell:Yeah, within your site. And one last thing I want to add, that I didn't think about earlier was just this idea of an orphan page. I know, right? It's a lonely little page that has no parents or relationships, you know. And so that's what you want to avoid. You do not want to have any orphan pages on your site. You want them to be connected and not lonely, you know, so I just wanted to throw that in there. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg:Yeah. Okay. Go save your pages from being orphaned pages, please.
Crystal Waddell:Yes. And have a great day. Bye. Bye.
Brittany Herzberg:you're well on your way to being the answer to even more Googled questions. Thanks so much for joining us this week.
