excuse me, is anybody sitting here? Sorry, this is taken. Sorry, thinking about it, I think this is the first christmas movie I've seen all year. How about you?
Speaker 2yeah, definitely for me, so we're starting early, I like it starting early.
Speaker 1I feel like this is starting late. We're already like in the middle november. I usually watch like two, two or three Christmas movies by now.
Speaker 2Christmas doesn't start until the day after Thanksgiving. That's my rule.
Speaker 1When do you start listening to Christmas music?
Speaker 2The night of Thanksgiving, right when I'm done eating, I put away my plate. I turn on the Christmas jams.
Speaker 1I kind of have it on. Every once in a while I'll slip a couple songs in my playlist.
Speaker 2I did go to Target today and I heard some Christmas music playing and it did put me in a good mood. I can't lie it, just there's something about it.
Speaker 1It is pretty cool and it's well. I feel like every year they have a Christmas movie that comes out, but I just like the time of the year where they're not going to be as action-packed as this one we're going to be talking about. We're going to be talking about red one today and, to join me, mr brandon cole's back on the podcast. Thank you, brandon absolutely.
Speaker 1Thanks for the invite, always a pleasure yeah, this is, you know, knock on wood, probably like one of your last times on the podcast, before we do our yearly review. Yeah, how do you feel like so far the year's been like? You know? It's been good, bad, evil terrible.
Speaker 2No, that's.
Speaker 1That's a little extreme, but definitely on the on the end okay, and I think I'm definitely blaming sony a lot for it. This year we had, like madam webb, we had, uh, venom 3.
Speaker 2That was a disappointment and we have like a craven still coming out, which I have zero hopes for now yeah, I uh, obviously you know we're in the after effects of the writer's strike and the, you know, actor strike and all that. But yeah, this is a lot of movies that were supposed to come out got delayed, and then the movies that we did get, I don't know why they pushed so hard well, they pushed so hard because they needed people in the audience.
Speaker 1They knew they had a mid-script going on this whole year. Like hey, we gotta really juice up these numbers. Like Wicked I heard mixed reviews about it from early screenings but they've been pushing that marketing crazy Like I can't wait to get into that next week's episode. But yeah, they definitely are pushing hard to get you guys to stay in theaters.
Speaker 2Yeah, you guys stay in theaters. Yeah, the next uh, two weeks we got three, three movies that are going to be a absolute banger.
Speaker 1So hopefully, we can end on a high note, and I know you're talking about wicked, gladiator and um moana, correct? Yes, sir? So I don't know. I'm hearing mixed reviews about gladiator and wicked. So we'll see how the box office turns out we'll see, we'll see um, as a moviegoer, because those are all coming out on the same day, right, or moana's one week after yeah, moana's with the week after but gladiator and wicked. Which one are you gonna go see in theaters first?
Speaker 1come on, man, gladiator all day see, my last guest said wicked, and I think I'm gonna be wicked, honestly, better than the gladiator that's nuts man.
Speaker 2This is like the poor man's barenheimer. So I am, I for sure may do both, but I gotta, I gotta, go all in on my uh gladiator 2 what are some of the movies that stood out to you this year?
Speaker 1like there's one particular movie that kind of surprised me how much it stuck with me throughout the year yeah, I mean the best movie of the year by far.
Speaker 2You know my humble opinion. Dune 2 is something I've just watched a few times now. Um, but there's been. There's been a handful of surprises I I even was a big fan of inside out too. I like that movie way more than I had any right to. What about you?
Speaker 1um, challengers is definitely stunned with me. For the longest, uh dune 2, I never really had a desire to go back and re-watch, honestly, like I think I started watching inside out for the second time but never finished it.
Speaker 2Obviously deadpool is the big one of the year yeah, for sure, for sure, um, yeah, I think, see, that's, that's the thing that hurts right now. Like I just watched denora, um, and I did like that one a lot, but early in this year we just had, you know, a handful come out and then just kind of fell off the face of the earth yes, yes, but one that's still in my top three, still surprisingly is um the bike riders oh, okay, okay, no, I love that one.
Speaker 2I think challengers definitely. I saw those like right after each other, um, because I think one came out in april, one came out in june, so there was a little bit of a pause for me there, but Challengers was the one that kept my head space and then I went to see. Quiet Place, so I stand by.
Speaker 1Challengers love yeah, I forgot. Quiet Place honestly came out this year. Fly Me to Moon is another forgotten one with big stars yeah, channing Tatum. I wanted to go look back and look at, really make a whole list of my top 10, I would say at least, like you know, like I said, we said like three or four bigger hitters for the rest of the year and honestly I'm kind of excited to see werewolves.
Speaker 2Honestly, yeah, yeah, I'll take it um. I I'm I'm going to see craven. I know I'm not gonna probably like it, but I'm gonna go see it for sure.
Speaker 1I mean there's so many of my lists that I haven't gotten to go see. You just said you're sitting on nora, which is like a love, kind of like a love story, right? Um, how is that? I haven't heard. I mean, obviously I hear a lot of great things about it, but when I look at the bottom it also sponsored, so I have no one's genuine um reaction.
Speaker 2Yeah, man that movie is uh, it's like if cinderella met uncut gems people are saying this is like the next past lives. It's like I don't know if it's that no, no, no, it's, it's something it's so wildly different.
Speaker 1Like I, I very heavy on the uncut gems, that movie's bonkers and uh, there's, there's a lot of comedy that you wouldn't expect, so I I'm very curious to see how you're gonna feel about it oh, I'm definitely gonna go try it out, um, I think, because I'm going on vacation next, this next week and, uh, I'm gonna go to try to see wicked on the vacation, just because it's gonna be on the podcast, um, with that being said, I do have a handful of hollywood updates, so we can get into that too. Uh, the first one conan o'brien will host 2025 oscar ceremony. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 2um, I, I like it. I like it. Obviously we had jimmy jimmy kimmel, which was like what, his third or fourth time right switching over to conan. I think you know he's got definitely fresher, um, so I am excited. I I've been a huge fan. Obviously they tried the no host for a while. That was terrible, um, but I like when they have like multiple people hosts. I was kind of hoping for like a trio or something to do like that, but, uh, I'll take conan, I'll take him.
Speaker 1I love conan and brian. I'm a huge fan of his. I love his podcast. I loved all of his shows. I think he's one of the funniest guys and I think he does have the charm to pull it off. But there was rumors for the longest that, uh, hugh jackman and ryan reynolds was going to do it together.
Speaker 2I think that would have been sick and it would have been like you know, that's that thing where they capture. You know the the big thing in mainstream. So I remember back in the day it was like kevin hart and the rock, like that would have been a fantastic combo. So you can, you can have a little bit more banter with it versus just you know, those heavy monologues, but if anybody can knock it out, it's going to be coming but I mean, I think it's just a safe bet to go with a tv host because, like you had, like, what was that comedian last year?
Speaker 1um, camel, no, no, no comedian was it? It might not even been the oscars, it's been something else.
Speaker 2Oh, you're talking about, uh, joe coy yeah, for the emmys.
Speaker 1So I think you gotta ruined it for for comedians for a bit. Actually, you know, I think I talked about um, what's her name? The one who did the great on tom brady roast? Um?
Speaker 2nikki glazer nikki glazer.
Speaker 1She's gonna be hosting something.
Speaker 2I forgot what it was exactly, but it's gonna be coming up pretty soon, in january, I believe yeah, it's always hard when you have like, obviously, comedians, you know they like self-deprecating humor, they like to like roast everybody. There's always hard when you have like obviously, comedians, you know they like self-deprecating humor, they like to like roast everybody. There's a difference when theirs is a little more pointed versus a talk show host who can go, but I think I'm more like it's the Oscars. So I kind of love like when movie stars, you know, or like some of the true entertainers do. But I know Neil Patrick Harris, like he was singing and dancing and hosting Like I harris, like he was singing and dancing and hosting, like I like people like that. That can kind of bring you know that that extra level to it right, I think q jackman has hosted before too, if I'm mistaken.
Speaker 1And um, yeah, same way. I love, like how they could do like a triple threat sing, act, dance and all that stuff. Um, number two, I got boys the men movie, biopic and documentary in the works. I know my mom is gonna be super excited about this. I'm a big fan of boys and men too. I can't name all their songs, but they are great. Um, but it feels like almost everyone nowadays is getting a biopic. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 2I I mean, listen, boys and men is one of the greatest groups of all time, so I'm excited that they're getting their due. I think it's going to cover their 30-year career. I could care less about this. I Really. I heard it and I had to check the sorts because I was like, who asked for this type deal? But I don't know, man, I guess I'll watch it.
Speaker 1I'm going to watch it. I'm kind of excited for it when I heard it announced. But we have Timothy Chamoulaize coming out pretty soon. I'm trying to think what that one was called.
Speaker 2He's playing.
Speaker 1Uh, not billy joel um, I should, I should know that he just, I just need a trailer for it, but he's coming out with one uh, there is a michael jackson uh movie that's coming out, I believe next fall now. Um, one that I heard long time ago that was gonna be made, that I haven't heard anything about in like a year or two, was Bee Gees, and I would love to see a Bee Gees biopic yeah, I know the Michael Jackson one.
Speaker 2I've been hearing good things about the production again with all these biopics. I just don't know if there's like a huge need for it, like they're kind of carving their own sector in the movie space. But I don't know, maybe it's a little too late for me a little too late for you.
Speaker 1Um, I mean, I loved rocket man, but bohemian rhapsody was like awesome rocket man's perfect.
Speaker 2I, I love that movie. Even, uh, the blackberry movie was good, um so. So there are a few ones. I just, I guess. I just it depends on who's making it and how, because some some stories they're cool, but I don't know if we needed two hours dedicated to it.
Speaker 1I mean, we had a biopic about the game Tetris. That was awesome.
Speaker 2Yeah, but that slapped.
Speaker 1Bob Dylan was the movie we couldn't think about earlier. Ah, there it is Up. Next I got Lady Gaga to appear in Wednesday season two. I am a big fan of Wednesday, but after seeing Joker 2 2 I was like, oh man, don't tell me there's gonna be a song in this movie or something you know dude, it's so funny because I actually forgot that joker came out like I have put that that movie so far down in my memory bank.
Speaker 2Yeah, uh, so I actually have not seen wed. I completely missed that one on my radar.
Speaker 1I mean it's so popular, you kind of know all about it almost.
Speaker 2Exactly exactly. So I mean good for her, I guess. But yeah, it's just check in a box.
Speaker 1And I'm almost even surprised Ortega is still continuing with the streaming world.
Speaker 2you know, after she's so big in movies now you know, after she's so big in movies now, yeah, yeah, I mean, well, that's where she got her start right. I know, early in her career, the show you it's like the first time I saw her um, and you know that that definitely helped from netflix perspective. So she probably just it's probably easy to shoot. She gets paid a ton and not, you know, too much work on her end as I'm saying, they had to pay her pretty penny.
Star-Studded Movies and TV Updates
Speaker 2I'm sure her rate has gone way up yeah, so next time netflix, you know, increases their price, we're blaming jenna overtaken, glad we're on the same page.
Speaker 1Yeah, uh, speaking of streaming, euphoria, season three will be moving forward with production this january with an eight episode season. Were you fan of um euphoria?
Speaker 1love euphoria yeah, same thing. It's gonna be a high budget movie just because of zendaya and um sydney sweeney alone, because they're both respected to come back. Um, I never got into it. I did try watching it. I gotta give another shot. I heard nothing but great things. I heard it's like a kind of like a shameless kind of show almost, which shameless was good for me up until like this third or fourth season. After that it's so repetitive and they kind of turned me off of movies that kind of way yeah, uh, euphoria hurts is the only way I can say it.
Speaker 2It is a little crazy like there's some wild stuff in there and sometimes they like glorify the wrong things, but it's, it's a really well-written, well-acted show. But you, you nailed it zendaya, sydney, sweeney, even, um, jacob alorti, obviously from salt burn like that cast even their schedules getting them there at the same time. There's a reason it took this long. It better be worth it.
Speaker 1I think it's going to be the last season of Phenomenon Sinking too, yeah it has to Do you think someone's going to die in that?
Speaker 2They all die all the time We'll see.
Speaker 1Speaking of Zendaya, zendaya and Anne Hathaway join Christopher Nolan's new movie along with Tom Holland and Matt Damon. I think this is going to be. Someone said like what if they're doing Spider-Man 4 together? No, I trust every single one in this cast Like them alone are all reasons why I would go see that movie. I love Anne Hathaway. She's probably my top 10 actresses. Facts she's probably my top 10 actresses.
Speaker 2It's like that video game multiplier Every person you're saying just makes it better and better. Anne Hathaway, top 10, and then you add Anne Hathaway with Christopher Nolan. You know how they do when they work together. It's going to be fantastic, man.
Speaker 1And it's interesting that I mean there's been a debate like is Tom Holland a really good actor or is he really just a good Spider-Man? And the fact that Christopher Nolan got on the you know he's on his radar I think says something a little bit. And also you gotta accept the fact that this is the next generation of acting Like these are our Tom Cruises, these are our Ashton Kutcher's and all that stuff. You know Like it's time to get in big movies like this. No details about what movie or what the title is, what the plot is at all, but just being said I'm excited for it.
Speaker 2Yeah, a lot of people talk about tom holland and just his choices and movies haven't been the strongest, but there's not a single movie like even the ones that flopped that I've looked at and blamed him, like he always like gives a really great performance, so I think he just needed this like I hate to call it like validation because he's spider-man he doesn't need too much, but like having, like you know, the christopher nolan hand select him to be like uh, acting across of a mac game and adding am hathaway and then his literal, you know partner in life of zendaya.
Speaker 2I think he set up for success really well here.
Speaker 1Yeah, he definitely seems like he surrounds himself with the right people because he hangs out with his family a lot and his dad's in the entertainment business. I listened to a couple of podcast interviews with Tom Holland and he's a fun, coolest guy. I think he just came out with a non-alcoholic beer too.
Speaker 2Yeah, Biro, I think it's called.
Speaker 1Yeah, I want to buy something and review it on the podcast. Yeah, do it. He's also going to be coming out with a movie next year or the year after with Austin Butler, where they play drug dealing brothers you're talking about this new generation.
Speaker 2Austin Butler, timothee Chalamet, tom Holland are all in that same class, so anytime we get them on screen, it feels like that old school Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and all of them coming up as well up next.
Speaker 1I cannot believe I'm saying this, but ice age six is in the works with the original cast. Did you know this like the number four or fifth highest franchises of all time?
Speaker 2I mean, yeah, no, I didn't know that, but hearing it doesn't surprise me. I I grew up on ice age and I could care less about this movie I don't even think I've seen the last two that's what I mean. Like I, I didn't even I, I guess I knew there were three in my head. I wouldn't have even I would put so much money that it stopped there.
Speaker 1That's crazy I'm excited to see queen latifah come back, though, like I mean, I know she's still acting, but I haven't seen her on the movie screen in years. I feel like like yeah.
Speaker 2I got another man that's nuts. Well, there was a short that came out where the uh, the um dude finally got his his acorn. So I thought that that was the button Like. I remember that one was going wild on Twitter like finally, so you know you know what Disney.
Speaker 1You know what Disney still misses on, especially Pixar, like when they used to have those shorts after the movies. You know, like where was the squirrel? Or something like that. Yeah, something like that. You know back to simple stuff like that Quincy Jones passed away recently.
Speaker 2That was a pretty big wild thing that wasn't on my bingo card. Yeah, definitely didn't see that one coming, but you know good career career.
Speaker 1Good dude, um, legendary. Legendary, I mean, I don't know, because we went to the same middle school, I don't know if you remember this like there was a group project not a group project, it was a project in our english class, I believe where you picked a famous like icon, pop icon, and like write a report about it, and I think quitchy jones was on that list. You know who I got. That did not age well at all. I wrote a three or four page paper route and bragged about how great this man was. It was Bill Cosby.
Speaker 2That's so funny.
Speaker 1At the time I was like man, you guys don't know about the Cosby show and all that we got to find, that I want. I think I talked about it in front of the class.
Speaker 2You're like my hero, Bill Cosby.
Speaker 1Yeah, this is like 2008, 2009.
Speaker 2Gotta date it.
Speaker 1I don't know if you're into Star Wars, but the new trilogy is in the works. That sounds pretty cool.
Speaker 2Yes, very much into Star Wars, but a new trilogy is in the works. That sounds pretty cool. Yes, very much in the Star Wars. This new trilogy has been in the works and I don't believe it's coming for a second. Call me a cynic. Like their announcements and stuff, I'm very passionate about this.
Speaker 1It's okay.
Speaker 2But their announcements. With the Star Wars they have the worst track record I've ever seen in any franchise ever. I'm so. They need to move on from Kathleen Kennedy. I am one of those people. I need direction and I need them to not announce so much stuff. I need them to just get it done. Andor season two is coming out. I'm pumped about that. But if I hear one more movie that quietly, you know falls off the face of the earth, I cannot do it again.
Speaker 1Well, I mean mandalorian's coming out this long movie too.
Speaker 2That's pretty exciting yeah and then yeah, but they announced those free at like star wars celebration what two years ago. And the only one that's actually coming out is the one from the mandalorian, because they are actually working and that's john favreau and dave filoni, like yeah, of course those were going to be solid, but the james mangled one. We still haven't heard too much about the Ryan Ryan Johnson trilogy, the Benioff and Weiss trilogy Like that's what I mean, man. I've heard the Lando movie. It's just all that is just canceled, announced and canceled.
Speaker 1Announced and canceled. I'm not into Star Wars honestly, like I really wish I was. I tried getting into Star Wars. I did watch it. Oh, I just couldn't do it. How did? I not know this about you I couldn't do it like so any of the new ones. I really haven't seen like they came out this is crazy.
Speaker 2This is you think you know somebody uh, next I got.
Speaker 1Ryan reynolds is currently writing a non-marvel project to reunite hugh jackman and sean lovey. I mean, I'm for it. I kind of hope it's a musical too, honestly, because they've both done musicals in the past yeah, sean.
Speaker 2Um, you know they've worked together before, like obviously adam project was the one right before this free guy um even back in the day, real steel. I don't know. I love that movie so like yeah, it's good and it.
Speaker 1I just found this out like watching it randomly and I saw who directed it. It was uh uh, night at the museum. Yep, I didn't know that was him.
Speaker 2That was pretty cool he's had our hand, his hand in our childhood and I also didn't realize that until, uh, I was looking up some stats for that. Over it I was just like, would you like look at that like I love a consistent king, you know right, right.
Speaker 1I guess, speaking of consistent kings, daniel craig wants netflix to put knives out three in theaters for more than just a week. I remember last one came out, I think it was. I don't even think it was a full week, it was just a weekend because it was around thanksgiving and me and my dad went to go see it in theaters because we talked about in this podcast. It was great. There was no reason it shouldn't have been in the theaters. But it is netflix and you got to know what you're signing for when you're doing a netflix movie. It's super rare that a netflix movie has ever appeared in theaters. I mean, I could think of a total like three or four.
Speaker 2Honestly, so they?
Speaker 2they only put them in theaters for the award consideration right because it's one of the rules like obviously has to have like that uh, limited or wide release in like whatever four cities, 1800 like theater, something crazy like that. Dan Daniel Craig called the CEO of Netflix an asshole, or no, yeah, an asshole. Basically he's an idiot for this and I couldn't agree more. The big thing that Netflix is saying is like, obviously they want people to watch the movie on Netflix, but they just got proved by the last movie's data. One, you're going to make money If you release it on Netflix. You're making a fat $0 of additional income. I think the last one made $30 million, which isn't a ton of money, but that's $30 million you wouldn't have had. And then, two, I remember people like me and you and just a regular moviegoer you get that hype from the theater and the moment it hits Netflix, you're over the moon and that's like why would you not want that? They're literally, they have data proving that it's the right move and they're still choosing not to Idiotic.
Speaker 1I mean, you got to think too like they have marketing costs and stuff like that money to keep it in theaters too.
Entertainment News and Movie Review
Speaker 2So I mean mean 30 million is a lot of money, but I wonder how much they actually broke even on that alone. They broke more than even. So. They paid 300 million dollars for the rights to even make these movies. So that's what I mean like if you're gonna pay 300 mil, you might want to get some of that back. And like you keep it in theaters for a little bit, it it's going to make some money and then drive additional views and memberships to your streaming service. That's what it did last time.
Speaker 1I was really curious to see why they didn't do it, and you know like you listed all great points. I'm sure they had to have some kind of countermeasure. Maybe they don't.
Speaker 2The CEO said because it goes against the like ethos of what they are. Like they a streaming service. They're really just holding tight on that viewpoint, which is why Daniel Craig was like that's stupid.
Speaker 1Now you can argue Paramount does the same thing. They have their own streaming service, but they still put on the theaters. I'm kind of surprised Sony has never came out with one.
Speaker 2They tried. And obviously Sony I'm not going to say they suck at everything. Sony doesn't have the best track record with their divisions, um, but I know, like, exactly like paramount. You see a top gun, maverick, do one point plus billion dollars in the doc's office. And look what it did to their streaming service. It enhanced it in every way. Like that's what I like. There's no argument against it. Netflix is trying to hunker down for the wrong reason I got two more.
Speaker 1John kaczynski voted the people's magazine's most sexiest man alive. I think these awards are hilarious and, uh, just the people like the celebrities interaction along, like they just walk around different, like they know it's. It's goofy. But there's also had an addition in the magazine too. They got the cast of the, the men cast of new girl, back together for a photo shoot and interviews. Have you seen that? Videos of those?
Speaker 2I have it's been blowing up my tiktok like all last week and like two weeks ago it's cool.
Speaker 1I like seeing them together. I would love to see the project within the future no, it's.
Speaker 2And after Lamar has won his Emmy, like now, he's playing the diva card. I'm eating it up, man.
Speaker 1I can't stop thinking about Lamar, because he has a podcast of his own that I've been listening to, and then he was just on Saturday night not too long ago. He's kind of hot right now. He's on the track of having a great year.
Speaker 2Yeah, and if you would have told me that he would be the breakout star of New Girl, like obviously. Jake Johnson, I think is still like the crown king of like who's had the best career or like the most mainstream, I guess.
Speaker 1But L'Amour, like making this late comeback, like and just refusing to go away, I love it, man. I mean it's kind of why, because Zooey Deschanel, she was like way ahead of them, them like way bigger than all of them when they for so first started, and now, like she's probably one of the least successful, although easily, but that was like the way yeah, that's the way the show went, like a lot of like it was for her, but like I don't know I was watching for the group dynamic of the dudes.
Speaker 2That was what made it for me so I'm glad she was there. She just did, you know.
Speaker 1She's got the Property Brother money now, exactly. But yeah, I love the whole crew and the last one. It's going to be awkward if we're not going to talk about this, but last Friday or Saturday, mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight was about in Netflix streaming of all things. Did you watch it?
Speaker 2I did watch it.
Speaker 1See, I tried watching it and fell asleep really, oh man.
Speaker 2So I went here's a weird thing. So I just I live in kentucky now. So me and my friend my friend started texting in the group chat like who's got money on this fight? Like what are we doing? So, like, all right, man, like you know, the odds are pretty good. I said I don't gamble often. So I was like I'll put some money on here. And uh, because I lived in kentucky, they don don't gamble often. So I was like I'll put some money on here. And uh, because I lived in kentucky, they don't allow boxing gambling. So I had to like drive. I lived on the border, so I drove 12 minutes to like this awesome bar area in indiana and I watched it there, which ended up being a lot of fun.
Speaker 1But that fight was terrible it is very boring and I thought well, I mean you're beating up an old man like, granted, it is mike tyson, but he's old, you know yeah, he, he definitely showed.
Speaker 2But the thing that I guess people aren't talking about enough is mike started strong. There was a real like the first minute of that fight, like everyone felt that like oh my god, he's gonna do it. And then, like by round three, you're like I see what's happening, he's gassed and there's no turning around this shit there's a lot of uh talk about conspiracies, like it was all scripted.
Speaker 1Do you believe that?
Speaker 2no, no, I don't I don't know.
Speaker 2I kind of do it to some extent I mean like there's no reason, like because I I guess that scripted nature just doesn't make any sense, purely because, like we already know that they're getting paid, like Mike got paid 20 mil, right. So it's not like what's scripted. Oh, I'm not going to knock you out. Jake admitted that halfway through, like there was no reason to knock him out once he realized he was tired, like and you saw, you saw Mike like not give up. You saw him like kind of just taking a break, like what I don't understand, like the scripted nature of it, I guess, like a break, like what I don't understand, like the scripted nature of it, I guess, like we were very transparent on what was about to happen if they knew like he was gonna lose?
Speaker 1I mean, he could have placed the bets too, you know but that's what I'm saying everybody.
Speaker 2But all the bets like were heavily on jake. That's why the odds were so good on mike, you know. So like we knew that if anything, it would have been rigged if, like, mike won, because then there would have been a lot of crazy payouts. Well, I guess that's the reason why Jake won. I don't know, man. You had a 28-year-old fighting a 60-year-old, like what is there?
Speaker 1to rig and all I keep seeing is memes of Mike Tyson's ass like walking away or something.
Speaker 2Yeah, you know, like Logan Paul, like we're walking away or something. Yeah, you know, like logan paul fought, you know, floyd, you know, a few years ago, and floyd won that one. Like that's what I mean. Like I don't, I don't, I don't see a world where, like, they're just having a whole conversation about who's about to win when we're all watching it. But I don't know, I love wwe, so I know um well, I want to get into this week's episode.
Speaker 1We're going to be going over the new movie Red One. I'm fresh off of seeing this movie within the past five hours, so it's fresh on my mind. I know you should have seen it today too, correct?
Speaker 2Yes, sir, around. Yeah, same about six hours ago.
Debating Christmas Movies
Speaker 1Yeah, you know what I did have a game for us before we were going to play. We were know what I did have a game for us before we're gonna play. We're gonna talk about controversial movies, christmas movies, just to debate if they really are christmas movies. I had a couple of my mind. I'm sure you have a couple on yours. I didn't. I didn't give any prep time for this, but, um, you know, for example, like die hard, is it a christmas movie, is it not? I mean, most people can't agree that it is. But I'm gonna try to dive a little bit deeper. Like are the harry potter movies? Because a lot of people watch harry potter movies in the winter time. Is it a christmas movie, a series or not?
Speaker 2yes yes.
Speaker 1What's your reason behind that?
Speaker 2um, at least okay. So my argument has always been the first one, for sure is um, just because it has. It's the weakest argument I have, but it it encapsules, like christmas, the spirit of christmas. Obviously everything's going into the winter time, like you feel snow on the ground. It may not necessarily be a christmas movie, it might just be a winter movie, but I'm counting it, I'm giving it an honorable mention okay, I mean, just because there's snow in the movie doesn't mean it's a christmas movie.
Speaker 2No, but it's just, I don't know. There's a feeling that you there's an intangible. Like I said, it's my weakest one. I just feel, feel bad. You said it already All the Harry Potter marathons happened for Christmas time, so this has always been in the list for me, okay.
Speaker 1What about Frozen?
Speaker 2Good point, Frozen no.
Speaker 1Not a Christmas movie.
Speaker 2Not a Christmas movie.
Speaker 1Okay, someone threw this out to me the Shining.
Speaker 2I've never seen the Shining. Oh no, you know I don't do horror.
Speaker 1I just watched that for the first time A few months ago for our Halloween episode and, uh, I don't know, it is very like snowy in there too, but I don't know A lot of people watch it around Christmas time, I guess. Um, I got one for you. Uh, mean girls yes, 100 I don't know. Some people say it's christmas movie. I mean a halloween movie why would it be?
Speaker 2oh, because of october 3rd. I'll buy that one. I'll buy that one.
Speaker 1So you say it's more of a halloween movie versus christmas yeah, I'll buy that for a buck okay, okay. I think I am more likely to watch it just because of october 3rd, in october too. So I'll give you that a nightmare before christmas. Is this a christmas movie or a halloween movie?
Speaker 2it is a halloween movie that is very good to watch on christmas okay, that is pretty good.
Speaker 1I didn't watch watch it for Halloween, so I am going to watch it for Christmas, though, okay okay. I'm trying to think of which other series or franchise Ice Age For sure, ooh, no, no, not a Christmas movie. No, happy Feet no, no, not a Christmas movie. What time of year would you watch that?
Speaker 2In the winter, for sure. Sure, but not necessarily like I mean january, like like january, february time frame okay, lilo and stitch yes you think that's a christmas movie?
Speaker 1I was gonna.
Speaker 2I would say that's a summer movie, for sure yeah, yeah, I haven't watched it a long time, but like the themes of I don't know being at home, ohana, I think, I think I'm willing to say yes on that one, okay.
Speaker 1Okay, it's not on my list of watching this Christmas, but I'll probably add it to the list now. Um, I can't think of anything. I think that might be it, unless you can think of it, I got, I got two.
Speaker 2Oh oh, I got one for you okay the one right behind you spider verse christmas movie or nay now may crazy, crazy. Take it's 100% a movie. It has christmas music and it happens during christmas time and the winter. It's 100% a Christmas movie. It has Christmas music in it, it happens during Christmas time and the winter. It's about family. What else do you need?
Speaker 1Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse.
Speaker 2It's on Christmas what are you talking about? They have like one of the bits is the Peter Parker Christmas angle and then like he's wearing the snowman hat yeah, but that's like for like four seconds of the whole movie yeah, it's in there, man, it's, it's in the soundtrack and like again the christmas hat, like it's, it's.
Speaker 1I don't know, man, I I watch it during it does happen in the winter, I'll give you that. But when I look at the poster, like I don't think it christmas, I think like well, I know that comes out in may, so like I think of may honestly no, and then, oh, dude, dude, there's so much christmas stuff in that movie that's like hidden, like I don't know.
Speaker 2I count that one, all right. Uh, what about shazam?
Speaker 1no, I, first of all, I don't even think about that movie at all, ever the first one. The first one was good honestly, like the first one was okay, I can't even remember the villain in that one. Honestly, yeah, now I can, but that movie was forgettable. I forgot about that movie, honestly this is nuts. This isn't fun anymore okay, but let me ask you this now after seeing this movie, when you think of christmas, are you going to be thinking duane johnson now?
Speaker 2I, I, I will um, for better or worse. I will yes. Quick answer what about you?
Speaker 1I know I mean at what point. Like there's a point in his career where you don't even see his character. I just see the Dwayne Johnson on screen.
Speaker 2He's not acting in this movie, but if you're asking me, will this fall on? Is it a Christmas movie? It is, by pure definition standpoint. Yeah, at least for me, at least for me. Okay, wait, last one.
Speaker 1Iron man 3. I'll give that to you. I'll give that to you Christmas. Even like the what If series, I would say it's Christmas.
Speaker 2All right, I'm like I'm leaving here with something.
Speaker 1I want it. Yeah, leaving here with something I want. Yeah, yeah, uh. But this movie, red one, was directed by jake caston, written by chris morgan and hiram gracio gracio, uh, after santa claus, codename red one is kidnapped. The north pole's head of security, dwayne johnson, must team up with the world's most infamous bounty hunter, chris evans, in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas. Okay, right at the backs, fresh off my mind, this is a kid's movie. This is not going to be good for both of us. Honestly, I had fun watching it. There's a lot of plot holes in this movie, but if you think this is supposed to be comparable to our generation with Santa Claus Tim Allen's Santa Claus almost you know dude, I guess we'll start right off the bat.
Speaker 2Is this even a kids movie? I would 100 say so some of these scenarios are ridiculous, like, first of all, I get, I get that point, but I'm like, so you know, I have eight nieces spoiler alert so I always like going to movies like this, thinking like what they watch. Dude, there's so much swearing in this movie and I get like some people won't care about that. I was trying to figure out like, was that a like intentional decision, because they definitely didn't lean into the the children aspect?
Speaker 1I guess, like a pre-teen, like you know, 10 and up type deal probably that makes more sense because, like, there is a lot of hidden jokes in this, in this movie. Yeah, um, I mean, there's so many unrealistic things in this movie. The first thing I think is so unrealistic is that it showcases in the beginning a jam-packed mall. When have you ever seen a mall that packed? You know?
Speaker 2Yeah, you're funny as hell.
Speaker 1You know, most malls only have like eight stores in the whole thing.
Speaker 2Dude, the south lake mall used to be popping when we were kids, man yeah, yeah, and it's just our mall.
Speaker 1I mean, it's like two days before christmas too, ain't no way this mall's gonna be jam-packed. If anything, you could have started off on the amazon warehouse like how crazy that shit is yeah, yeah, true, that would. That definitely would have showed the craziness of it but I mean, what a star set of cast in this movie, when we already mentioned, you got Dwayne Johnson, chris Evans, lucy Liu who I'm surprised to see still acting JK Simmons and, honestly, a surprise cameo from Nick Kroll yeah, that one was the easily the weirdest one.
Speaker 2Like it almost took me out the movie completely. I was like what the hell is happening right now?
Speaker 1Weirdest and randomest one, honestly, but he's at his point in his career. When I get a little bit excited to see him, oh, good for him. You know he's in this movie. It was the same way with, like Don't Worry Darling. I was like, oh shit, good for this guy. He's acting with um. But this movie is like I said. I could tell it's trying to be a classic movie, like a tim allen kind of thing. It's. I'm not, I'm, I'm over the rock, honestly, when it comes down to it whoa, that's bald, man, that's bald I'm over him.
Speaker 1You said yourself you're not seeing his character. That's obviously.
Speaker 2He's not even acting um and also like I I I couldn't agree more like I. This was duane on screen, right like this is the same exact role he's played at every junction of his career. I think he still is. We only have like three true movie stars left and he's one of them. So I think I'm just a little bit more like forgiving, or like I just understand what he's going for. He for sure needs to change and like not to go on a tangent, but it's this safe choice, right. Like even uh, what's the director's name? Again, you said jake uh caston caston, right?
Speaker 2so that same guy who did both jumanji movies. It's the same guy who's like written and produced like a lot of the fast and furious. So he's worked with this dude like he. But that's what he does. He just picks, like these people that are safe in a very safe role, because why would he change it?
Speaker 1like I mean he needs to, but do you think like only the rock chooses to work with him because he can do whatever the fuck he wants with them? You know?
Speaker 2yeah, I mean, it's his production company. That was the first thing I saw on, you know, in the theater. Seven bucks production came loud on screen and it was like, yes, like the the rock is the one who is producing. Like he's the executive producer on his last like 10 films, like he's the one choosing it, like even the fat, like again, like back to fast and the furious, like he's the the boss, like the true boss on set. Same thing for for here. He's like, hey, let's partner together and make this movie, but I'm going to be me and I just need you to do it and we're going to make it really by the book.
Speaker 1And I'm surprised, Like, honestly, we didn't even get a, like we didn't see his tequila in this movie. That's why I'm that surprised.
Speaker 2Yo, if they, yeah, true, true, because they showed the bourbon.
Speaker 1That would have been a little too much for, uh, for everybody. I think. I mean, like this movie was being made like two years ago with me during the pandemic. I remember set photos being released and this is like the height of chris evans too. Like right after endgame they started probably filming, so they just wanted, like the hottest actor at the time it happened to be chris. I mean, he doesn't bring nothing special to this role and, to be honest, like I didn't even buy him as a scumbag role Cause, like dude, I just seen you on the screen like two days ago, like as Captain America.
Speaker 2Dude, yeah, I think like he's in a very similar trajectory. You know, post Captain America, he he started off so hot. Talk about the movie we talked about earlier with Knives Out. We were like, there it is. We thought he was going to be kind of doubling down, but whether it's Gray man, which I thought was fine, or Ghosted, which was terrible, no, I agree with that. He has been doing this asshole Boston guy, and I don't know it's just not working.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean he could have a career similar to Matt Damon, I feel like. But he just loves action movies. I think is what it comes down to, yeah.
Speaker 2And listen, I'm here for it. He's made his life nugget off of the MCU, so he can afford to do a few of these, as long as this isn't the long-term plan, because I definitely don't want him to fade into the background.
Speaker 2But I love what you said, like a very matt damon a la everyman character, like he just has to, you know, give us a little more. I know he just announced that he's doing a movie movie with uh a24, so obviously that's a step in the right direction with, you know, some real scripts is that where um his new hairstyle and beard came from?
Speaker 1yeah so that looks. I mean, when I first saw it, like okay, like I mean I knew obviously it was for our upcoming role, because, like there's no way he would walk around like that, I have to say he looks bad, but he looks like a professor almost, so it's probably something like like a maniac or something. Yeah, yeah, how did you feel the chemistry between duane johnson and the rock duane? Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans were in this movie.
Speaker 2That's the thing, man, Even like. I didn't hate it, but there was nothing to write home about. I don't know. Maybe it just didn't work as well on paper. Just throwing two big names in a movie doesn't work the way that it used to, but it felt again very by the book. I didn't like think that they were hanging out and having beers after. What about you?
The Rock's Controversial Movie Performance
Speaker 1no, I mean this is. There's also like rumors coming out about the rock that he just could um touched on like a little bit ago, about on set, like how he's coming back. Uh, he's kind of an asshole to work with, like he's always late, he's peeing in bottles on set. You, you know he's really not taking anything seriously. He does come out and say, yeah, all this stuff is true, it's not like I'm not taking it seriously. He's like I'm just beating the fucking rock. You know I'm busy as shit.
Speaker 2It's like damn dude, yeah yeah, I was going to say like he's, you know, now he's trying to take over the world is my theory, but that's why he just kind of has this the Fast and Furious going back to it, him and Vin Diesel beefing. It's stuff like this where I'm like he is going in to make this very cookie-cutter movie with no substance and then just leaving to go back to his empire to do something else.
Speaker 1I mean, he's so rich like he doesn't even have to start his own movies anymore. No, you know, I mean, this movie entirely didn't probably have to be made. It was, it was good, it was okay. I'm nothing to write home.
Speaker 2I'm gonna forget about this by next christmas probably okay, yeah, so I I have said like it's not as terrible as everyone was making it out to be, like there's watch, it's watchable, I guess, is the other category. I laughed, I had one real big laugh in the theater. That was actually it um the entire time. But yeah, there was a good movie in here somewhere. You know, if you make this movie 90 minutes instead of two hours and you know you go a little bit of a different direction and I don't know, try with some character development like there would be, there could definitely be something at least memorable, but unfortunately that is not this movie I'm glad you said that character development and it is two hours long.
Speaker 1I wasn't gonna see this the other day, but it's like it starts at seven, I'm not gonna get out till nine and then there's trailers till nine thirty. I mean two hours long. This movie did not need to be two hours long. Uh, you could have cut out all the stuff with him as a kid and no one really cares about that stuff, it didn't really matter. Um, you could honestly skip the whole krampus thing. Honestly, like, if we take that out, I mean, yeah, just come at the end and help him, but he doesn't even really save him.
Speaker 2Um, I honestly the best part of the movie was the end, like I don't know about you, but by the end I was at least not invested but I was at least paying attention, because it kind of got more interesting with, like, the reveal. But I I think when we saw the actual delivery of the presence, that part was kind of cool to me and I was like I was like damn, this would have been a good movie if it was like this.
Speaker 1Yeah, like the last freaking part of it because we are like, um, we have over 100 adaptations of santa claus and all these movies tell you how do they do it different ways and stuff like that. This one's like the most tactical way, like uh, army tactical way of delivering presence and using like magic with it too, like you know, shrieking stuff out, shrieking yourself down that, like yeah, I would love to see more of that stuff. Versus him building his chris evans, building up a relationship with his son, like that was so kind of like cringy and cheesy so cringy and it came out of nowhere too.
Speaker 2That's the other thing that I hated about it. Like the nothing, and there's also like not for nothing. But they were trying to be like oh you know, he's this mercenary and he's this hacker and he's blah, blah, blah. But don't worry, he's, he's a good dude. He's never done anything necessarily illegal. He's like I'm not on any list, like I don't know man I was. At one point he was like very elite in fighting, and then the other he was like in cape, incapable of common sense.
Speaker 1I don't, I don't understand it I mean, but like when you first introduce his character they're trying to establish you like this guy's kind of like a suave asshole, almost, you know. Like he's stealing people's coffee, he's setting these on fire. It really pissed me off, like to show this guy was a bad guy. He stole candy from a baby. I was like what are we doing here?
Speaker 2I forgot about that, and they made it such a point to oh no, yeah, I was like what are we doing here?
Speaker 1and then he's supposed to be this big time hacker, stuff like that, but he's living in a shitty apartment. He's kind of a shitty car yeah and like not for nothing.
Speaker 2But that's exactly my point. Who is this dude? They obviously talked about him being in gambling debt, but then when he got paid it seemed like it would be a lot more than $25,000, because that's what he owed movie. Uh, beginning of the movie they made the point to be like oh you know, I can find anything. Go find your dad. Like so he has, you know, a missing father, but then now he's gonna be a absent dad, like that.
Speaker 1Then that did not make sense to me at all for his character yeah, and like it opens with him as a kid showing his cousins where the presents are. It is like, yep, that guy's gonna be detective. When he grows up I'll say what jeez I mean. So there is funny moments in this movie, or I did laugh out loud too. You know like and my theater, I don't know about you I went to the 12 o'clock showing in the afternoon. It was jam-packed with kids and the kids were eating this up. They were eating this up. They all loved it. They were laughing and giggling and stuff like that.
Speaker 2So I mean, it made me feel good to see them have a good time watching this at least okay, we had two completely different experiences, so that probably adds to it, because I went around the same time. I think mine started at one o'clock, uh, which really was like 140 because of these stupid trailers. I got a whole rant about that one day, um, but there was exactly eight people in my theater and wow and one of them was a family, so I mean I could not have been in a more dead theater.
Speaker 1You, you did go at an early showing, though, on a saturday though yeah so, but I just I don't know.
Speaker 2Obviously like everyone's calling me to flop, but there's nothing like. That was my biggest indication. I was like wow.
Movie Setting and CGI Critique
Speaker 1I did read the reports Like it's expected, I mean it's coming out, I mean it's doing a lot less than they thought they were going to do, because they think the Rock is just a cash cow. I was like, okay, we need more than that, we need storylines. What I like most about the settings in this movie, it was multiple locations, like they different parts of the movies where I can talk about a specific moment in the movie and you know exactly what I'm talking about, versus like if I'm trying to explain something to you, like um, I'm trying to say like I'm in venom, like there's only three locations. If I talk about something like, oh wait, when was that again? You know, like I liked how you're at the what was it? Morocco at the beach. You're in Krampus' dungeon or something like that. You know you're in New York. You're in the North Pole, argentina, argentina. You know there's great other places. You're in the Toy Stories. There's different Toy Stories. I love the different.
Speaker 2Dude, that's what? Oh man, the, the costumes like the. The Krampus costume was a practical effect and it looked dope like I don't know. That could have been a very CGI. I'll ask you about the bear.
Speaker 1I didn't mind it. There was a scene where he does interact with Chris Evans when he pushes him back down in the chair like that looks faked as hell. Yeah, but um, I'm glad you brought up the CGI effects. Most of the CGI effects I didn't mind, like the elves and everything. What I had a problem was with the green screens. I was like I could totally tell this is not, you're not in a dungeon or something like that.
Speaker 2You know, like it's like a set probably in a green screen room for sure, even like the outdoor scenes, like, I think, the one on the beach I looked at and I was like wow yes, like the depth ratio, like they are not. It's like that's just. It was jarring to me 250 million dollars oh geez.
Speaker 1On top of that, they're all wearing boots on the sand. I was like there's no way you guys would be all standing this straight up, like in these boots, you know and they well, they made a point to talk about that piece in the in the movie.
Speaker 2That's why I said there's so many cool ideas in this movie, like the toy store thing, that that was dope, like I. I never thought not never thought about something like that, but I like what they did of like creating this world. It's just a lot of. It didn't make sense, so like that just.
Speaker 1That adds to the point again, like this movie is meant for kids, where they don't really care about that. Yeah.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, care about that stuff. Yeah for sure. We are going being very critical about what's supposedly, I guess, anytime I hear a price tag of again a $250 million movie. And then you throw these big names JK Simmons we haven't even talked about him, but you got all these movie stars or actors like A-list. I guess. Crew, they could have gave me more. That's all. That's all. That's my big thing. I just wish it would have been better.
Speaker 1I mean he had Bonnie hunt in this movie. I went with someone at this movie and I was like, is that the mom from a two year by the dozen?
Speaker 2They, they.
Speaker 1I liked her. I loved her as Mrs Claus. I loved her, I loved her as mrs claude. I think that was pretty cool. Um, there is that christmas movie that came out last year with, um, the guy from stranger things, um, you know, talking about david or henry, something like that oh, uh, oh, you're talking about um uh violent night, no silent night violent night, violent night. They come on the violent night too, hopefully, and I'm hoping they're going to introduce it on mrs club in that one too that movie's a.
Speaker 2That was a banger, that john wickney's.
Speaker 1You know, christmas I, I love that one lucy lou was interesting in this movie the whole time she was looking at screen. Though I hated that facetime call with them, like in the control room and the rock is there. I was like at least make it look like she's looking at him. She's like like looking off into space, like what are we talking about?
Speaker 2Yeah, way past them, way past them. I don't know I get again. I got a little bit more of a soft spot for her. But you know what I thought about while watching it. There was a fight scene where she has, like the the sticks going and I was like you know, someone walked up I know we got to get rid of her moment. This is her thing, so that made me laugh.
Speaker 1I mean, her character alone is proof that they're a part of a larger world than they are. Because they talk about other mythical creatures in this movie, do you think we'll get a franchise? Well, maybe we'll deal with mermaids next.
Speaker 2Great question. I know in my heart they wanted a franchise and you know what. They played it smart, because typically what we've seen them do in the past is just announce this franchise coming and it never works out. I think this was a test of water because, you're right, they put one level above what was necessary information for the world building, with everything they were showing like having this entire task force. This could have been a universe similar to a Jumanji, you know, with what they're doing with that now. But no, when this flops terribly and makes no money, they will. They will run away from this.
Speaker 1I love Lucy Lewis. She's so cool. I had a huge crush on her, but not like I don't know.
Speaker 2Like was she cross-eyed it?
Speaker 1always. I don't know, I think she was just she looked cross-eyed, but they have fixed one eye, like via cgi maybe or something. That's what it looked like to me. But you're right, we haven't talked about jk simmons playing santa claus, and he takes a totally different. He's not fat or jolly in this one, he's just like a shredded old guy yeah, and that worked for me.
Movie Review and Actor Discussion
Speaker 2I don't know Like that's what I mean, where I feel like obviously we've talked about the you know, delivering presence piece, but like that him being kind of a badass was really, really refreshing. You know, even like the stupid. There's a lot of stupid scenes in here that were kind of like you know he's working out and he's got all this heavy weight and he's like, all right, let's, let's actually work out now. Like let's go heavy, jesus, this guy is. And then, like the cookie scenes, he's like yeah, 27,. You know, a million calories carbs I burn during Christmas time. Like I like stuff like that. Like I think that he had a very interesting take and that at least worked for me in here.
Speaker 1I'm excited for that. It's different, yeah, like it's something that you throw like the magic in there too, where they can shrink a little bit too, and you see him go to action. You can see why he needs to work out that much. It's totally awesome to see how I do that. Um, I kind of wish they just threw out the line like hey, like I thought you'd just be a fat guy like here's seven's talking, or something like that you know?
Speaker 2yeah, I you know. And they had that whole button, um, at the end where they were talking about how cool he was, but no one mentioned that like and they mentioned, like so many you know things that we were already ready to expect.
Speaker 1They didn't even acknowledge that he was just shredded and I guess, like I mean at that point, you've seen so much shit throughout the whole day. I mean like that's probably the least surprising thing, but even like the kids at the mall.
Speaker 2Like you know, he went to the mall and, yeah, he was walking around like bigger, like I don't know.
Speaker 1I feel like somebody would have been like yo yeah, yeah, I mean overall, I had a fun time watching this movie. Would I watch it again? Probably not. I did want to go see it, I was excited to go see it and I'm glad I did see it, but I I think it's over with. Like I might see it again, maybe next christmas, if I remember about it, and it's streaming. Um, and I, at christmas movies are always so hard coming on theaters in november because, like, it can't stream it for like at least until march, and who's watching christmas movies in march? You know?
Speaker 2I I I think they're gonna fast track this one. I will be very hard. I'd be very shocked if by december, like 20th, this is not on streaming oh man, that's kind of close I know, I know I think it'll get a 30-day release.
Speaker 1It's just my gut reaction after watching it um, I think, I think they might do opposite. I think they might try doing a re-release, like around christmas time okay, okay, hey, we'll follow up.
Speaker 2We'll follow up. Yeah, yeah, this was uh I. I don't see myself going to see this ever again. I don't see myself watching this unless, like, my nieces are involved. I think that I was just more disappointed because I heard that it was terrible and, to give it credit, it's not trash. No, it's not, it's a it's fine again I think I used the word watchable.
Speaker 2It's definitely watchable but it's like that, at the lowest tier, like no, it's not. Again, I think I used the word watchable. It's definitely watchable, but it's like that, at the lowest tier, like it's a very meh movie.
Speaker 1Yeah, do you think this hurts Chris Evans' acting career?
Speaker 2Not even a little bit.
Speaker 1Okay, how about the Rocks?
Speaker 2Yeah, I think it's just going to be like, oh, it's another rock movie. Yeah, I think it's just gonna be like, oh, it's another rock movie. You know, I think people just chalk it up to be like you know, I think when yeah, I think people will look at this and be like, oh, the rock's just doing that again, like and I think they'll move on, but I think it'll hurt them how about the rock?
Speaker 1I mean sorry. How about chris evans son not looking anything like him, or his mom, dude his younger self didn't look anything like him, like that's the the.
Speaker 2The casting in here had me scratching my head. But yeah, his son, he. He was in this movie um, um, your place or mine a while back and I hated him in that movie. So when I saw him on screen I actually do not like this kid I forgot all about that movie with ashton kutcher yeah, yeah and uh, um. Who's that? Not Drew Barrymore?
Speaker 1I know you're talking about Reese Witherspoon.
Speaker 2Reese Witherspoon yeah, so that movie. Uh, that's where, that's where I know him from, so watching him in here, he was definitely more subtle, but he was also like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah the whole movie.
Speaker 1Yeah, alright, here we go uh, they could have had that kid from um the Adam Project dude, now he's Percy. Jackson. Yeah, what would you give Red One? A 1 out of 10?
Speaker 21 out of 10. I'd give it a solid 5.
Speaker 1I'll go give it a 6 at least. There you go, mostly because of Chris Evans. I'm such a fan of his and he's good. He's okay in's nice.
Speaker 2He's okay in this yeah, yeah he's fine, yeah, chris Evans, I'm watching. I'm still in the. I will watch anything he's in train and honestly, I'm like that with the Rock too. I just like I want I, where I've already made my peace with who the Rock is. I want better for my boy, chris Evans.
Speaker 1I feel like this is Captain America Trying to imitate Winter Soldier. You know kind of vibe.
Speaker 2You know that needs to be your tagline. I like that.
Speaker 1I had a great time watching it. I want to watch it maybe one more time, but it is worth watching. And, like I said, we did talk shit about it, but there is a lot of fun parts and it's a lot of coming together. Especially if you have a family to watch this, definitely check it out once it starts streaming and if it's streaming before christmas, give it a watch. Um, brandon, what are some movies coming out the rest of the year that you're looking forward to?
Speaker 2hey, we already said the big three. You know, gladiator, moana and, uh, wicked, I know for sure, I listen, call me crazy, I'm so pumped for moana. And you know, I know for sure, listen, call me crazy, I'm so pumped for Moana, and you know we just talked this whole time about the Rock.
Speaker 2He's going to be in there and I'm going to love him every moment because I loved him. You know I sing. You're Welcome at least once a week at some point. So I'll be really pumped about that. So those for sure are going to close out my month and again, I think, craven and will probably be the last big one. Concave conclave I need to go see that's like the oscar like front runner right now. So you know you're not over yet. You're not over we still got.
Speaker 1Um, they're also going to be several movies coming out on christmas day this year. Which one are you going to go?
Speaker 2see um, I think the lion king one mufasa yeah, yeah, I think that one I. I don't know if it comes out directly on christmas, but I know, I know it's christmas week I'm gonna be watching that christmas day too.
Speaker 1Um bob dylan movies coming out christmas. Um what's her name? The one, the lady, I can't remember her name. She's always in the amc commercials before the movie starts. Her movie comes out on christmas shock the movie looks crazy. I completely forgot about that one to be coming out on christmas is wild, because that is a challenger saltburn-esque movie if I've ever seen one yeah, yeah, she just started that movie with zach efron kind of same scenario dating a younger guy.
Speaker 1Yeah, I was like is she just living out some fetish she's got going on yeah with jody.
Speaker 2Yeah listen, tom cruise is doubling down on action and she's doubling down on trying to get some action.
Speaker 1So there we go yeah, tom cruise is in the news recently too. Um for being the goat. No for his new movie. Like I think, he's trying to do something really extra for um, the next Mission Impossible.
Speaker 2Mission Impossible the trailer just released and it was fantastic.
Speaker 1It is not a part two from the last one, right.
Speaker 2It technically is a part two, so they changed the name. Similar to a. Spider-verse situation. It was called Mission Impossible Dead, reckoning Part One, which is just way too long of a title, so instead of making it part two when it got released, it's going to be the final Reckoning, so it's the last Mission Impossible.
Speaker 1Because they did leave you off with a huge cliffhanger, which I'm kind of surprised they did that.
Speaker 2Well, you know, before the writer's strike, we thought that it was going to come out, you know, this year, so it was supposed to. There's three movies that had like a part one, part two, which was really strange to happen at the same time.
Speaker 1but yeah, uh, well, thank you so much for next year. Yeah, yeah, thanks so much, brandon, for coming on the podcast. Like always, great to have you and, like I said, we're going to be expecting to see you come back when we do the year-end review, talk about our greatest movies, greatest losses and everything in between absolutely.
Speaker 2Thanks for having me, man, always a blast um, thank you for listening.
Speaker 1Next week is going to be the wicked episode. I think I chose that over gladiator to come on the podcast. Well, thank you for listening. Stay tuned next week, where I'll be saving you. Outro Music.
