I you know, when we were watching this movie, I didn't think that there's any chance that I'd be able to survive something, because I'm just going to give up in that situation. To be honest, I've thought of that. But it came to me last night the perfect plan. Let's hear it. You just get a couple guys and you head down to the local fire department and you just roll up on all of them with a fire hose, right?

Speaker 1I mean you've been having a pretty good year so far. I mean this is your first full year in your new house you got a new cat. You know you've been going to the movies a lot yeah, no, I've had a very good year.
Speaker 2I'm not. I haven't. I have zero complaints about this year what's your favorite part about 2024? My favorite part of 2024? Definitely this summer. I had a lot of fun this summer.
Speaker 1Well, yeah, because, for those of you who don't know, you have an entire high school football field in your backyard literally I do so every Friday.
Speaker 2You have all the guys over to watch the game. Yeah, the house that came with floor seats, front row season tickets. That capped off my summer. Those nights out, those Friday nights out there, that was some of the best times, some of the best times I had some of the best times this summer.
Speaker 1I really did yeah, because I mean like I said, every Friday night we were here watching the game. It was a pretty chill night.
Speaker 2Oh yeah.
Speaker 1Pretty chill summer, pretty decent fall and winter. Like I said, got the your cat, this fall dude cat williams.
Speaker 2He's the best man. He gets better and better every day like he does nothing wrong.
Speaker 1No, he's the chillest cat.
Speaker 2He's just everybody's like, wow, you got so lucky and I'm just so grateful. Yeah, and he's so funny bro. I'll just be walking around the house and he'll follow me around. But I'll just turn a corner to go get something out of the fridge or something and I'll look up and he's on top of the cabinet up there Like how'd you get up there, cat Williams, how'd you get up there? I just got him a new gold ring too to put on his gold chain and it has a little money symbol on diamonds on it. Yeah, I was showing people at work pictures of Cat Williams and one of my employees brought that ring in yesterday and said, hey, get his drip up. And I said hot, oh yeah.
Speaker 1So yeah, I suppose you can get like a little bandana from him and everything that's coming next. I got him a little scarf, but he doesn't like to wear it because, it's getting chilly, you know yeah, yeah, totally, and talk about you just hosted um for the first time a friends giving. I did what a night too yeah, that's pretty fun, that was fun.
Speaker 2That was awesome. We had a moment where we're just sitting around the table a bunch of guys playing cards, talking about like times from 10 years ago, and it occurred to me wow, those times were like 10 years ago, almost like you gotta realize like that was 10 years ago.
Speaker 1We were like 18, 19 and crazy and it's like man.
Speaker 2Those were some really good times there's some really good times.
Y2K Movie Discussion
Speaker 1It's cool that those people are still in in our lives and stuff you know yeah, yeah, um a lot of cool moments lately let's go talk about movies a little bit more, because you've been going to the movies a lot this year with me yeah I've even feeling about movies. This year, like you think, it's been a good year for movies, a bad year for movies, just kind of forgettable To be honest, not a lot of them stick out particularly.
Speaker 2However, going to the movies and sitting down and watching a movie, that's just always a good time. Yeah, I always enjoy it.
Speaker 1We recently got a Superbox at our house. You know you can watch movies and shit like that in theaters it's like a fire stick, yeah but I mean, like I don't watch movies, I like going to the theaters, it's fun. Um, I mean, I know you like challengers a lot.
Speaker 2That was pretty cool challengers of the tennis movie. Yeah, I didn't really like that movie.
Speaker 1I've seen it like three or four times in theaters, and then I I can't stop thinking about it.
Speaker 2It was that good of a fucking movie I've been firing up my popcorn machine pretty, pretty frequently around here too yeah, yeah for movie nights or just cause just just popping, just popping some corn man yeah, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1We went to the theaters together to watch this movie we're gonna be talking about and, uh, this is the first time ever I went with somebody who snuck in like full-ass meal oh yeah, you know I didn the number seven from a McDonald's.
Speaker 2I didn't have time to eat dinner before. I took a little nap after work and then, luckily, rob called me, or else I would have slept through the movie. I tend to do that a lot, especially if it's only like a two-hour nap. That's not enough for me, because when I hit like an hour and a half, good luck waking me up. You know what I'm saying, but luckily you called me. I hit the mcdonald's drive-thru real quick and just put it under my coat yeah, yeah eating mcchickens during the movie.
Speaker 2What would you do if they told you hey, you can't bring that in here I would honestly just pound the food outside really quick and in the 15 degree weather, nah, I'd just leave.
Speaker 1To be honest, uh, well, today's movie we leave, to be honest. Well, today's movie we're going to be talking about the new Y2K movie, the new A24 movie and, for a throwback to go on theme, this is the first time ever I've rewatched this movie in like years and it's I Robot with Sonny Will Smith from 2003. I freaking love that movie. I liked it a lot and I forgot how much I liked it until we watched it last night and it was freaking awesome my first time seeing it.
Speaker 1It was pretty sick um, I asked you to come off this y2k movie because I knew it was gonna be a fun, ridiculous movie and I think you would enjoy the hell out of it. And this movie definitely surpassed my expectations. I thought it was gonna be cheap laughs like kind of like throw in random nostalgia stuff in there just because it's a 1999. But I mean I laughed a lot, a lot more than I thought I was going to yeah, it was very funny and especially because you didn't know anything about this movie going in I didn't know what it was about, I just knew the title.
Speaker 2I remembered I was in kindergarten and I kind of remember people talking about that stuff. Um, didn't watch a trailer or anything. Tried to watch a trailer, not gonna lie before pulled it up it was two minutes 35 seconds. I said I'm out, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 2I'm not gonna sit around for two minutes 35 seconds and watch a trailer yeah, so I said I'm just gonna go into this thing blind which is sometimes a better way to do it. Yeah, I, I enjoyed it because I didn't expect it to be a stupid funny movie it was in my mind like the beginning.
Speaker 1I like, all right, this better not try to be like a super bad kind of movie, you know, because you're just not gonna win yeah, I didn't even know it was comedy until we stepped in there I thought it was uh like a sci-fi. Yeah, no, there's. I think this is. There's been plenty of horror movies like that you remember, like 2012 when people thought the world was gonna end, and they came out with a movie with 2012, people thought was going to happen.
Speaker 2I remember all the hype for that movie too. That was the year I graduated high school and a lot of people were talking about the world was going to end and YOLO and all this.
Speaker 1Yeah, and then I mean so there's definitely like darker takes on stuff like this, like what the world's going to end. And I mean I don't want to say people don't know about Y2K, but hopefully everyone does. When the year 1999 came, everyone was afraid that when the 2000 came all the computers weren't going to be able to adjust to the 2000, to go back to zeros. They thought all the computers were going to fail. All the missiles from military and airplanes are going to crash. All that stuff was going to happen. Long story, short spoiler.
Speaker 1Short spoiler it didn't so then um 24 years later, we're talking about why you came the movie in this movie stores run like high schoolers who were just getting ready to graduate. Uh, eli, laura and danny. I swear danny is the bigger friend. I swear danny and eli reminded me of me, of you. Like you were danny and I was Eli the loser, but you were the one who turned up at the party.
Speaker 2Yeah, he kind of like looked like me too, like when I was in high school with no beard or anything, if I was like 100 pounds like heavier.
Speaker 1I would have looked exactly like him. I only know him from one other movie, and that was like Deadpool. He was in Deadpool 2. You haven't seen those yet, right?
Speaker 2I have not, no he was funny, though he was very funny.
Speaker 1I thought I was going to hate his character. I really did from the trailers. But let me go back real quick. For those who don't know, this movie is about two high school high school nobodies make the decision to crash the last major celebration before the new millennium, on New Year's Eve, 1999. The night becomes even crazier than they could have ever dreamed when the clock strikes midnight. And what I mean by that? This movie in 1999, when the Y2K happens, the power goes off for a quick second and it comes back on and all electronics come to life and are joining together, bonding together to attack and kill humans. And I guess their big evil plan was to use humans as their puppets.
Speaker 2To conquer the world away from the humans, exactly Kind of like thanos uh, not really. Thanos said everything will be metal.
Speaker 1no, you did not say that oh, I don't know where you got that from, anyways. Um, but it starts high school kids. You know like, and it's like did take me back. Like man. He's sitting around all the time talking about how to get girls and stuff like that, and I mean we still do that.
Speaker 2But they found a condom in a library book and they were like passing it around. Hey, do you need it tonight? You might need it tonight. You pass it off it wouldn't get used, never like he's probably inspired. And shit if that was me in high school and we did that, which me and brandon, we did some, I mean, we didn't pass around a condom, but like I could see that I would have just burned it and used it and jacked off into it, what the fuck wouldn't even held it that long.
Speaker 1Oh my goodness, oh rob, you've never jerked off into a condom no what okay, rob anyways, going back to the movie, I mean there is the nostalgia in this movie, like AOL instant messaging. Do you remember that stuff? Did you ever get into?
Speaker 2that I wasn't really on AIM, no. I wasn't, but I obviously know of it.
Speaker 1But I mean the only thing I didn't buy he was typing LOL, lmao, stuff like that. I don't think they were talking like that in 1999 yet I don't know.

Y2K Movie Reflection and Analysis
Speaker 1No, not back then exactly I didn't hear that until I mean it opens up like that where you're on the computer screen and it's instant messaging and then you have like uh, clinton's speech going on in the background. You know it's really setting the tone for 1999 and that's what I was afraid of like. If it's thrown so much like 1999 stuff in there, I was like, okay, we get it, we're in 1999, let's fucking go on with the story. And I feel like it had the perfect amount. I mean you had like kelso from that 70s show. I have a big influence on these characters and that was pretty cool. Um, we're trying to think what else was in there a lot of funny, stupid deaths stupid.
Speaker 1I mean, this movie is a lot more gory than I thought it was gonna be.

Speaker 1it turned midnight at 2000 and then, like, right at that second, the machines just like started to kill people exactly, and like rose grew some ways, like one, like had like a bed that was like you had a remote to recline it up and down and stuff like that, I guess. Like it came alive and threw someone up in the ceiling fan, the ceiling fan and penetrated his forehead.
Speaker 2He had the one guy in the kitchen got his penis caught in the blender like how do they get these situations?
Speaker 1I get that one yeah, yeah, what are some ways like one got burned alive. His face got burned alive by shaving grit, not hair gel, yeah, hairspray and the lighter, the thing burned him.
Speaker 2He's like I used gel bro then he got popped.
Speaker 1One thing I did like because the bigger friend we just talked about let me see his name real quick, the australian danny. He was in his movie, less than half of the movie, but what I liked about it, in that little time we seen them together we really got to appreciate their friendship and understand how close they were, which meaning, like I thought, I felt more sympathetic when his character died I thought uh, for this being a stupid funny movie, though, they killed him off way too quickly I mean, I feel like his role was like meant to be not that big, but he that kid himself like he's just the funniest character, though, you know.
Speaker 2We only got him for 20 minutes and then, yeah, at the end, after he dies, they go to his grave and it's all heartfelt yeah, you felt bad for him. I did, but you know, wish we saw more of him, because he was hilarious, I mean this movie did not hold back and like killing people, all that you like, really liked.
Speaker 1There was another character that didn't even die from a freaking robot, a CJ, that was rollerblading.
Speaker 2That was the funniest part of the whole movie.
Speaker 1They're running away from these robots.
Speaker 2They're hiding in the garage, planning their escape and they finally decide to go for it. So they open up the garage door and he sees a basketball hoop turned over onto the ground and he's a skater boy punk and he's like, oh, let's go nar rail. And he goes for a grind and he just slips and cracks his neck.
Speaker 1That was so funny, it was so stupid. I mean, his character was funny as fuck, because I feel like we all knew people like that in high school, just like a fake punk rocker and stuff like that, talking shit, yeah, and just dying from something completely random. That was fucked up he was. He's a famous actor that uh uh daniel. Oh geez, I did not say his last name, but I know he's from stranger things and stuff like that. He's a. He's a pretty accomplished actor.
Speaker 2Oh, I remember him from Stranger Things. He had long hair then too.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's kind of like his known thing, but you can go back before that, the high school party you know, like in 1999, like before the Y2K started. That scene alone was funny. Like if it was just following that the whole night I would laugh pretty funny. Like there was a guy flirting with a girl with a huge boner. The main character, cj sorry Eli thought he could save the party by playing his own mixtape which is what was it? The dong the dong, dong, dong Thong song. Yeah, yeah, he put that on. And then his boy Danny came through and like hyped him up and like was dancing the whole time. I was like, oh my.
Speaker 2God, that was so funny. Yeah, pretty relatable stuff.
Speaker 1Yeah, I was definitely like Eli in this situation. I would not. I would be in the corner talking the whole time Trying to talk to this girl. His huge question is played by Rachel Zegler, who plays Laura, Big Hollywood actress. Again, she's up and coming. She was in the Hunger Games last year. She was in a West Side Story before that. She's upcoming Snow White pretty soon. You know her character was supposed to be played by Jenna Ortega.

Speaker 2Yeah, but I think Rachel was a cool choice. She was, she was, she was fine. I feel like this movie oh, that would have been sick, yeah, but I think rachel was a cool choice. She was, she was, she was fine. I feel like this movie would have been a lot bigger with jenna ortega I, I really agree with that.
Speaker 1Yeah, anything jenna ortega touches right now is huge, it's huge yeah I would have at least known something about it going in. You know what I'm saying yeah, and then there's other characters in there, like the big stoner who hangs out with high schoolers, who owns a video store yeah I thought I was gonna hate him too. Especially when I first met him, like when he I thought he was gonna hate him, but he ended up being pretty funny too. He's just a chill guy who had like reverse goatee.
Speaker 2He had mutton chops but like nothing above his lip or underneath his chin he had the birkenstocks, he would change into a fresh pair to go in the back and smoke weed with his kids and the champagne really said worked at the blockbuster, yeah I mean, I still think that's a pretty cool ass job.

Speaker 2Growing up. Well, we went to hollywood video but we went like once a week if I was good in school and we rent a movie dude.
Speaker 1That was the best I remember doing that and we would run like the live action teenage mutant ninja turtle movies all the time yeah, that like ace ventura and stuff like that I would always get a pokemon video i've've got those too, yeah.

Speaker 2That was when I was like at my peak of Pokemon, like kindergarten, first grade, because I was in kindergarten. I remember when it turned 2000. I was in kindergarten and I remember the teacher like explaining something about what like is going on. I had no idea, I was just thinking about. I remember just thinking about Pokemon Because I was fresh off the Pokemon movie and I was collecting cards.
Speaker 1I collected cards. I remember playing with my brother growing up.
Speaker 2Yeah, it was awesome. That was a good year. 1999 was good yeah.

I Robot 2003 Movie Discussion
Speaker 1well, it is what it is some of the funniest things about this movie too, like whether rapping in this movie was that lame kid couldn't rap uh dude, a lot of music, uh influence.

Speaker 2fred durst, you know like um slipknot, like that type um the. When I worked at domino's the manager, he was a big slipknot and corn guy. I think that guy was from corn.
Speaker 1I mean, he's one of those he seemed heavily recognized with him from our theater he's a star. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure 1999 was his peak probably, but he was a funny cameo in this movie. He was like you guys are fucking idiots growing up in robots.
Speaker 2He was good too. He was funny, and then he turns around and starts singing. Whatever song that was, it was sick. What song was that?
Speaker 1Faith by Creed. I can't remember what his name? No, I can't remember his name, but yeah, that whole scene was funny, slipknot and music like that and he became president, or something like that afterwards, didn't he? Of the United States? I think he was president or something high up like that?

Speaker 1Yeah, and then the radio didn't talk about those other two burnouts that just kind of tagged along with them. Uh, the one I thought they were gonna end up fucking at some point oh the the chick and the guy with the glasses, the rapper with glasses yeah, they were like smoking herb together.
Speaker 2Yeah they tried rapping freestyling together and they just sucked ass it was funny hearing some of the terms that they were using I was kind of bummed to even hear him die, see him die, he died.
Speaker 1Yeah, remember we got fucking a cd to the four oh, that's right, he got a cd to the four I almost thought I legit thought almost everyone who died in this movie was gonna come back at the end. A, c, cds still a thing I think they still sell. We went to that um, was it fyp store in the mall they don't even sell cds anymore. I'm saying but I'm sure they're still making cds were huge back then my car doesn't even have a cd player.
Speaker 2I had a cd player. I remember I got for christmas when I was like that year it was blue and see-through and I had like seven cds, bro yeah I remember I had a maroon 5 cd play.

Speaker 2I was listening to them. Uh, which bicycle were you sporty spice? That was my first crush. Nice, nice, I was a fan.

Speaker 1Uh, thick ones, thick ones nah, let's go back to the movie. This movie had a lot of action in it, though. A lot of action, a lot of, like you said, gruesome deaths in there. That wasn't people getting decapitated and stuff. That one stoner guy who got decapitated it was totally obvious it was a fake head, but it was just funny comedic. And uh, rachel's sorry, laura's ex-boyfriend in this movie was like he's a huge jack guy who was super nice everybody. Oh yeah, it was kind of ruined for him to get killed. Never did, though.
Speaker 2His parents are even funny in this one uh, eli's parents are funny in this one they remind me of jimmy neutron's parents kind of right, that's what I was thinking are funny. In this one, they remind me of Jimmy Neutron's parents. Kind of right, that's what I was thinking Clueless.
Speaker 1I mean this movie is silly, ridiculous. I'm not going to watch it because it's great and outstanding performances, but it was stupid funny, like a group of teenagers saving the fucking world from robots.
Speaker 2Yeah, kind of makes me wish it did happen. Kind of makes me wish it did happen, kind of we've been sick, far away from our plan and dude. When I thought of my plan in this scenario to just get the fire department and get the big fire hose and take them out, I was thinking of pokemon, because I was thinking, okay, this is just a battle against electric machines, water is going to be their weakness I'm just going to water. Gun them to death. Okay, and no more robots.

Speaker 110, 20, I'm not sure which one but he's on one of them, so that would be the first thing you'd change is to get his ass, yeah get him off of there oh man, that would suck. Um, but the way the movie like they would. They saw this movie like oh, we got to get like a, a virus to plug in there, like so cliche yeah they use that condom. At the end they come, the condom comes back into play, which is so fucking funny tell them save the day.

Speaker 1This movie is about in the year 2035. A technophobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity. This movie was directed by alex porias porias man. This is re-watching this. This is such an early 2000 action movie like it's very cliche, like a tough cop who doesn't like to play by the rules and you know he talks, he's like a bad boy and everything like that. But put yourself in this scenario 2035. That's only like 10 years away from us right now yeah and how far away further they are in society.
Speaker 1That's what they thought it would look like 30 years in the future you're right, that's what I'm saying um so that's like what we think it would look like in 2055 we do have those tesla robots now, so it's not that far off actually yeah, and sex dolls and robotic sex dolls, bang them yeah, you can customize, them you can customize them.
Speaker 2Mine's on back order okay yeah, 7500, and you can customize everything from this thing to the lips, the eye color, the pussy shape oh god, titty shape. Seriously, okay, like, yeah, piercings, you can put piercings on that. Yeah, I'm sure you can put tattoos.
Future of Robots in Film
Speaker 1They didn't see any of that in this robot but you knew what was going on the type of like silicone uh skin anyways, 2035 is this year of this movie. But the thing that thrilled me were most wild, like how much people really trusted these robots to the point where this guy is the only guy in the whole country questioning these robots and everyone thinks he's fucking crazy. That was insane. Like there's no way, like people like don't even trust alexis right now.
Speaker 2But but I couldn't help but thinking is it really that different than it is today? We trust, we trust. We trust computers for everything.
Speaker 1We can't even go to pick up food anymore door robot can't even like I mean a computer can't even like get up and like harm you physically, but this robot can.

Speaker 2I don't know, but I mean they said the same thing in the movie and look what happened.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean, these are physical robots. The guy, the robots are modeled after the voice actor Alan Tuchik in this movie, who I know you don't know, but he's a very famous actor. He's actually an even more famous voice actor. He was very good acting in this movie.
Speaker 2Was he in Super Troopers?
Speaker 1I think. So I can't remember off the top of my head, anyways, but Will Smith in this movie I've never even seen that movie, I just shot in the dark.
Speaker 1He said I know you don't know him, I don't know him by the way, but I was gonna try and fondle my way around that, but you got me uh, but this movie is so action-packed and so cliche like bad boy, but like in 2003, that seemed cool as fuck. I I'm not going to shit on this movie, because we watched it last night and it did hold our attention from start to finish.

Speaker 1You have flying cars in this movie like self-driving cars. We have that really in real life.
Speaker 2Also the robots walking around the city delivering things. I just thought of that as like Uber Eats.
Speaker 1Domino's is on top of that, are they? Yeah, the other little thing, it's more like college school cars they got everything.
Speaker 2Their delivery drivers have cars now Like Domino's cars.

Speaker 2I could have told you that when I was working there, I was like this place is on the come up. Everything Business is booming.

It means the manager said hey, we got to take a photo shoot for some coupons. We want you to be in it. And I went to a whole professional photo shoot and got paid for it.

Speaker 1No, but anyways, she was pretty good in this movie Playing somebody who doesn't believe, not believe, but who doesn't. I don't even know where I'm going with this sentence, but anyways, what are some of your favorite action sequences? I mean some of the sequences in this movie, like it was clearly just to show off the technology. I mean, the robots did look great, the cgi looked great in this movie, but like some of the slow motion in there's like that was kind of unnecessary.
Speaker 2It felt like a tom cruise movie almost I liked when the main character robot, um sunny sunny, he was like the only one that can have dreams and like has a conscience. And I liked when he started to say that that stuff was happening, because I was like he could just be lying. But then I'm like no, but he's not. I liked, I liked when we learned more about who he is and like what he can do.
Speaker 1This whole movie it was like you could try pieces together but like this whole movie was planned. This entire movie was planned because it opens up with the suicide and um by this guy and he. The suicide was a part of the plan to initiate this whole thing, with Will Smith coming in and play his role, uh, taking down these robots and stuff like that. It was intense. This whole movie was fucking brilliant and I'm surprised this movie doesn't have a sequel to it and it turned out to not be a suicide, and he did kill himself.

Speaker 2yeah, you know, I realized that that was chicago and I'm like chicago looks nothing like this, no, like, not even close right, look clean right they were spot on with a lot of this stuff, but uh, 10 years, there will be way more homeless people. Oh yeah, it's going to be replaced robots in this movie. It's going to be I-bum, i-bum and there's going to be one bum that can have dreams, breaks it up, yeah.
Speaker 2Then the fire department is going to come through with the giant hose. Take them all out, jeez would you a lot of.
Speaker 1I mean the more. It's mostly the wealthy people who has these personal robots just walking around them and the sex dolls would you own one of these robots in your place?

Speaker 1I would be the most laziest motherfucker ever yeah, one of these robots it'd be sick. It would be sick. I mean, these robots do have rules. They can't hurt people. They can't uh, what else they can't hurt people. There's three rules can't hurt or kill people they can't hurt themselves they can defend themselves, but unless, like it's not if it infers with the other rules. Yeah, and it must do follow orders that are given to them.

Motives were exactly like Ultron in Marvel's Age of Ultron yeah, ultron kind of looked like these robots too kind of yeah, if you were to recast this right now, who do you think would play Will Smith's character um? Would play will smith's character um in today's timeline that one big funny guy stavi stavros, stavros, yeah, yeah. I think that'd be funny. I think he'll be funny as uh shiloh buff's character in this movie nah, make him the lead.
