excuse me, is anybody sitting here? Sorry, this is taken. Sorry, it is that time of the year again where I am coming with you to our christmas episode and to join me as big streamer, justine bgo. Thank you for coming on. Miss justine, I'm so excited to have you on. You were um on two years ago now. That seems like it flew by generally the last time you came on the podcast. Uh, we talked about the new avatar movie, the way of the water, how many times have you seen that since?
Speaker 1:um, I did watch it again after the podcast, but other than that I I haven't watched it since, but it's still a really good movie I remember like I just listened to that not too long ago to prep for this episode and we did talk about having you back on for the next one, but due to the writer's strike last year and everything, it got pushed way back and we were supposed to see it next year. But now I don't think we're gonna see it till like december 2026, if I'm not mistaken oh, wow kind of bummed about that, uh.
Speaker 1:but they did announce like several new movies and they're going to be filming back to back, which you kind of have to because there's kids in there. They're going to be like grown adults when the next one comes out. But how have you been? You have big news. I think we talked about it right before this you got Streamer of the Year Award. How about that?
Speaker 2:I did get Streamer of the Year award. It was my first award that I've ever won and it felt really cool. I've come a long way in the last two years, I think, and I really love how my community has grown and everything.
Speaker 1:Now for those who don't remember the quiet last episode you were on what do you really? What do you platform? What do you like to stream?
Speaker 2:So I'm a variety streamer. It does change throughout the year depending on what game is popular. Right now I am really into mmos, specifically world of warcraft. I did find my love in it again, so that's my main game. But I do play fps shooters like overwatch, valorant, but also cozy games like stardew, um, and it also just depends on the season.
Speaker 1:I'll play anything nice, I did have um one of my friends I went to high school with.
Speaker 1:She was on this podcast once and she's one of the creators of world of warcraft, like the newer one wow, yeah she's incredibly talented and um great work, and her boyfriend also, who has done big work in the video games, has been on this podcast as well. Um, not enough to get me to stream me. Honestly, I can't when I play video games. I have to play like 30 minutes at a time, take a break and go do something else and come back to it. I can't sit there through without. And when I do play, it's like simple games like spider-man or batman. I'm not really into like first person or anything like that that's fair um, but how has this year been treating you so far?
Speaker 1:how do you feel like, uh, your goals been met, because we're coming up at the year 2025 pretty soon?
Speaker 2:That flew by. I think, yeah, I don't even think 2024 happened. Time moves so fast and I feel like I've come quite a long way. I still do the same things as when you saw me two years ago, but I am more involved with my oh, my goodness, what's it called? Sorry, I'm more involved with my organization, um, with falcons. I have released merch. I'm not sure I released merch last time when I was on, but now I do have it um, and I am just working with a lot of new brands, um, bigger brands, and it's it's been really nice getting my name out there that was very exciting.
Speaker 1:Um, something I'm still working on too. I'm working with other people who are bringing back their pockets as well that I'm producing. Um, it is been a pretty big, eventful year, like for both of us, like learning a lot new stuff. Um, this is a movie podcast, so I have to ask have you been seeing the movies a lot lately in theaters or are you more streamer at home?
Speaker 2:well, actually not the movies that we're going to talk about today, but I am going to see the new movie wicked tonight, actually wicked.
Speaker 1:Um, yeah, I've seen that opening night and it is fantastic. I was supposed I've heard by the time this episode is released. I should have. Obviously, I should have my review out by now, but uh, um, it is great, it's phenomenal. The music is great. I love the acting in it. I love musicals in general. I think the last time you're on we also talked about the greatest showman too, one of my top five musicals of all times. Um, but wicked is going to be setting records and it's also being a lot of talks for oscar nominations and stuff like that, which is wild because it's only been in theaters for like three days. Um, ariana grande, I love anything she's in. Um, and this time next year we should begin wicked part two, so I'm excited to doing it. I've been re-watching um the wizard of oz. I've been. My whole for you page has been nothing but wicked, honestly like I was gonna say it.
Speaker 2:I've heard. You can correct me if I'm wrong. Is it true that, like the first part is before and then the second part, it does change into the same timeline as oz?
Speaker 1:or is that not true I don't know anything about the second part. I mean, I heard like people's like theories and stuff like that. I believe it is that way because right now, like to the audience, she doesn't even you get. You get to see how she gets the title of the wicked witch.
Speaker 1:She doesn't seem wicked at all really so that's fair I'm curious to see how they're going to evolve into how she gets out, you know, like the actual wicked witch. Um, it is very interesting to hear that whole storyline and I love watching youtube videos and like tutorials, like with the timelines that break up and how it lines up, because I did learn through there I think there's foreshadowing of the cowardly lion and the tin man in there that I didn't catch watching it, but watching it it's super exciting to learn. What about any other bigger movies this year? Was some of your favorites listed out for this year?
Speaker 2:um movie wise. Uh, I did go and see. Um, what did I go and see? I'm sorry, I did actually see. Uh, what's it called? It was the love drama movie with andrew garfield and Pugh.
Speaker 1:Oh, we Live in Time.
Speaker 2:We Live in Time. Yep, Cried my eyes out. Very interesting take on, I think, filmmaking. That's the first movie I've seen to use that kind of effect where it doesn't start at the beginning.
Speaker 1:Going back and forth a lot.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it juggles a lot. My grandma when I went to see it she was very confused, but I understood it all the way through and I was a mess.
Speaker 1:I did write a review on my Letterboxd about that. I think that's a trend now where it's telling stories, because we've seen the same thing in Challengers with Zendaya earlier this year and what's her name. I like Kendrick's new movie on Netflix, woman of the Hour. It's kind of the the same thing, going back and forth a lot, but that is a great trend, I think, and I think we're going to be seeing a lot more newer movies coming up where you're just putting together pieces yourself as an audience member too, so it has you constantly guessing uh, but that was a great movie. I didn't know anything about the plot. All I knew was andrew garfield and florence pew, and I'm in.
Speaker 2:I love both those actors it's very good if you want to.
Speaker 1:It is a very cry, emotional movie yes yes um, but we're going to be talking about christmas movies today, episode on this episode. So we're going to be doing nightmare before christmas and how the grinch saw christmas. The live action, jim carrey one. Um, are you big into christmas movies? Usually? Is this your favorite time of the year?
Speaker 2:oh, absolutely, I love christmas. Um, I grew up with having my grandma do grand christmases with like 20 or more people, like big dining table. I'm so sorry about my cat she is very attentiony right now, but, um, we used to have big christmases, giant christmas tree. It was like our christmas wasn't just christmas day, it was like christmas week, essentially. So, um, actually, this year is my first year that I have to roast the turkey and I'm having christmas at my house for the first time, so I have a big uh shoe to fill this year. I would say that's exciting.
Speaker 1:That's exciting, uh. So what does this look like? There's like games and movies going on in the background.
Speaker 2:Yeah, like I. Well, when we had the bigger house when I was younger, yeah, the whole basement we would do like movies, we would do games, play around, talk, you know the adults would drink all that stuff. We would get like giant goodie plates, cause my grandma's from Germany, so a tradition is to get a giant goodie plate on Christmas Eve. And yeah, we would have a giant dinner and then open up some presents, because in Germany you would open up presents Christmas Eve and not Christmas Day. But then when my like parents came into the picture, we kind of split it up, so it's like half Christmas Eve, half Christmas Day now but yeah, I feel like breakfast and all that.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, I love Christmas. Breakfast is my favorite part about Christmas. But I feel like nowadays you kind of have to split up with everyone. You have so much people to spend Christmas with you know one side of the family than the other, and traveling back, and then there's Friendsgiving and stuff like that. There's a lot going on. You almost have to do it.
Speaker 2:But what are some of your favorite Christmas movies besides the one we're talking about today? Some of my favorite Christmas movies have to be probably the Home Alone series. I feel like that's a classic for everyone during that time and I do like I don't really know the names of them. But my favorite are, like there's that happy, like heartwarming, funny Christmas movies. Don't have them off the tip of my tongue, but any of that genre I love.
Speaker 2:Um, like, there is a new movie coming out um that I've seen with lindsey lohan. She's making a comeback and I think it's a christmas movie about where, um, she starts dating this guy and he has a big family and her ex is there of like 10 years and so, like, I like movies like that, essentially like hallmark movies yeah, basically hallmark movies like I like elf um a lot, oh I love elf.
Speaker 1:Um yeah, lindsey lowan did come out with a christian movie last year on netflix I believe and it is such a hallmark cringy movie. I mean, it's good for the movies it's cringy good, but yeah it's. I think she is like a spoiled, spoiled rich girl daughter who um goes to the ski resort and she falls or something happens. She, she loses her memory yeah I remember that I was like no one is worried about this poor little girl. She does have a new, or not? She doesn't?
Speaker 1:she makes a cameo in a christian movie that just came out I can't remember what it was called, but um, it's starring her co-star for mean girls, um, like the girl who played regina george not regina george the other one the one who has her hair was full of secrets yeah, I don't know her real name, but I know who you're talking about she's coming out with a christian movie, and liz london doesn't make a small cameo in there too, I heard about, so I'm gonna watch it just for that interaction alone. Um, but there also is a lot of movies coming out on christmas day this year. Is that something that ever crossed your mind about trying to do according to christmas? I mean the movies on christmas, because that's a tradition I'm starting to do with some friends that's cool.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, I've never actually thought about doing that. Um, specifically, I always thought that the movie theaters were closed on christmas day, but if they're not on, I would definitely do a I know christmas.
Speaker 1:There's movies coming out on christmas, like we have mufasa coming out. Um, trying to think of other christmas movies coming out, but I think mufasa is the one I'm seeing on christmas day okay, that's cool.
Speaker 1:All right, but I'm going to be testing you a little bit on your knowledge of Christmas movies, since you said you love them so much. I have a small quiz here that I put together that we're going to see how well you know Christmas, and there's not one specific movie, it's over several different movies and if you don't know it's not a big, I will just post it everywhere. I'll just say I'm crumbling under the pressure, it's okay. But starting off number one, what is the name of the Grinch's loyal dog?
Speaker 2:Oh, that's an easy one. It's Max.
Speaker 1:Max In the elf film. In the film elf, what is the four main food groups of an elf?
Speaker 2:I do not remember this one, but I would have to assume one of them has to be candy, but if it's not, then I'm not sure one is candy.
Speaker 1:This candy is candy, candy canes, candy corn and candy something syrup syrup, oh nice um in home alone? What is the name of the young boy who left behind during his family vacation?
Speaker 2:I I need to know this one because like it's the main character I know it's the main character. What, um see? This is where the peer pressure comes in. No, I'm just kidding. Oh, it's on the tip of my tongue. She literally screams his name in the airport. Are we kidding me? I like to say I'm going to forget, but in all fairness, I don't even know actors names, yet alone people in movies. I could recite a whole movie and not give a name.
Speaker 1:And not Malcolm, not kind of kevin mcallister kevin, kevin, yeah, my gosh, I'm oh man uh, number four what is the name of the grinch's love interest and how the grinch saw christmas?
Speaker 2:it's love interest? It's not. It's definitely not cindy louis, because she's a child, definitely not. Um, oh no, oh, maybe I don't watch enough it's okay is it? Is it a real person, his love interest, or is it inabitant?
Speaker 1:it's, it's um, I just could tell you who the not the person is. It's the mayor's supposed to be fiance okay, so it's um.
Speaker 2:Oh, what's her name I? I know it's the girl, it's not. Isn't it the mom of sydney, lou, or no?
Speaker 1:no, no, her name is actually. Who is martha may?
Speaker 2:martha may see you tell me and I know it, but it's been a minute in a minute um how many lights were on the griswold house in christmas vacation I, I am not sure probably christmas vacation um 25 000.
Speaker 1:That's a classic. 5 000.
Speaker 2:that's the one where, like the whole house, like he's trying to see it from the sky, right? No, I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 1:That's with Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito. But this one's the Christmas vacation. You know there's a whole family like the Griswold's family vacation with Chevy chase. That's what it's in In Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer.
Speaker 2:What does hermy wish he could be instead of an elf carpenter?
Speaker 1:no close, though it's close uh, engineer, was it?
Speaker 2:um no, he, it's a hammer, it's something with a hammer because he says it. You're thinking of um the lumberjack guy am I no, no, oh, what is it?
Speaker 1:it's a dentist a dentist I guess you weren't close I wasn't.
Speaker 2:You know, it's a trade, it's, it's a skill exactly um.
Speaker 1:What is the name of the head elf in the santa claus with tim allen?
Speaker 2:the head elf. I like his right hand man not sure uh, bernard bernard, I would have never got that the cool name, though very funky name in uh home alone.
Speaker 1:Where does kevin's family go for a christmas that they?
Speaker 2:leave. Is it New York?
Speaker 1:It's a totally different country.
Speaker 2:It is a different country. Well, I'm not sure. Caribbean.
Speaker 1:No, it's actually Paris France. Paris, france Well clearly I do not pay attention to those movies at all. In what movie does the main character eat cotton balls during the at the doctor's office? Say that one again in what movie does the main character eat cotton balls at the doctor's office? Elf elf is correct. Uh, santa has three reindeer names that start with the letter d dancer, dasher. And what is the third one?
Speaker 2:dixon no sorry, dot. What did you say? That's blitzen, not dixon.
Speaker 1:Yeah uh, the third reindeer. That starts with the letter d dancer dasher and um dasher dancer and I could sing the song. If you have to go through the song, go for it.
Speaker 2:There's Donner and Dancer and blow down things and Dancer, donner and Dancer. And then there's a third one.
Speaker 1:Donner, dancer, dancer, dasher and Donner.
Speaker 2:Donner.
Speaker 1:In the Polar Express. Where does the train arrive? At the main character's?
Speaker 2:Isn't it at the main character's house?
Speaker 1:Yep in his front lawn. Yes.
Speaker 2:That was one of the first Christmas movies I've ever seen was the Polar Express.
Speaker 1:That is a must-watch on my Christmas list every year. You've never seen it no, I've seen it plenty of times. I've gone to like expos about the polar express where they give you hot chocolate and stuff like that, just like this movie. Um, I love watching the behind the scenes stuff, like tom hanks, like visually did most of the characters in that movie. It's, it's great so good um. The grinch's heart is said to be how many sizes too small um, oh, too small, too small, is it 10 times?
Speaker 2:it's two times too small time small, but it grew three times that it did who voices scrooge in the 2009 A Christmas Carol? I actually should know this actually you should, because we're going to is it Jim Carrey? It is Jim Carrey, we're going to be talking about him today.
Speaker 1:Yeah, in A Nightmare Before Christmas. What is Jack Skellington's title? He has a title um like hmm what is he known as down there in his land oh, like, I should know like I know it's on the tip of your tongue yeah, yeah, because he doesn't.
Speaker 2:He goes and, like, takes christmas, but that's not his title. Why don't I know this? He's not a scientist.
Speaker 1:No no.
Speaker 2:No, he meets the science. What is his title?
Speaker 1:He is known as the Pumpkin King.
Speaker 2:I knew that. I knew that. Oh my goodness, Yep, he is the Pumpkin King down there.
Speaker 1:In the Polar Express. What is the first gift of christmas?
Speaker 2:first gift of christmas? Um, I'm not sure. Is it? Is it? It's not a physical gift, like it's someone who says it right the first gift of christmas or uh, no, you see what the gift is like.
Speaker 1:You see, it is the bell from the sleigh.
Speaker 2:Okay, and the sleigh santa sleigh, the one that you can only hear it jingle, if you believe in what is the christmas song that buddy sings with josie in the shower? An elf, I'm not sure, but I'm gonna guess deck the halls no, no, maybe it's cold outside maybe it's cold outside two more and we're done all right.
Speaker 1:What are the burglars in home alone, known as? Known as like their names yeah, not their real names, but like the duo together, like the oh, um, oh.
Speaker 2:What are they called?
Speaker 1:I mean, I'll give you a hint. One of their callings is they flood the whole house when they leave.
Speaker 2:I don't remember. It's been so long since I've seen that movie the Wet Bandits. The Wet Bandits yep.
Speaker 1:And the last one I got for you an elf, but he had to travel through which forest?
Speaker 2:The magical forest, though Kind of Kind of the Christmas forest.
Speaker 1:Nah, it's Candy Cane Forest.
Speaker 2:Candy Cane Forest Out of 18 questions.
Speaker 1:I would say you probably got three right.
Speaker 2:Yay, I mean I suck at trivia when it comes to anything like that or being put on the spot.
Speaker 1:But yeah, I want to lead into some of our Christmas movies that we've been talking to, starting off with the Nightmare Before Christmas Came out in 1993. I couldn't believe it's that old already. Uh, it's about jack skeleton, the king of halloween town, discovers christmas town, but his attempts to bring christmas to his home causes confusion. Directed by henry salik and written by tim burton who's? This is very a tim burton movie. I feel like um, do you remember first time watching this or the earliest memory with this movie?
Speaker 2:I do. I also have a lot of random facts about um, if you want to hear them. I am a huge fan of tim burton. I've been following him. My mom was the one who got me into tim burton and so I've seen every single one of his movies. So I was very young. When I saw the nightmare before christmas I was probably mean. My first memory of it was probably I was seven, so like grade one watching it. Was I probably too young to watch it? Maybe because Coraline also was like really scary back in the day? But no, the Nightmare Before Christmas I loved it and in fact the song that they play like this is halloween. I had on the we the just dance. When it came out years later, um, it reminded me of that movie. But no, um, when I first saw it, um, it was really cool and it kind of is what led me to like kind of halloween at like and christmas like it it was.
Speaker 1:It's a really nice movie to tie into christmas after halloween, if that makes sense yeah, that was my biggest question I was going to ask you is like do you consider this a christmas movie or a halloween movie?
Speaker 2:well, so here's my useless fun. Fact is that tim burton actually made this movie because he saw a halloween display, um, being taken down in store and being replaced with christmas items. So he saw hallow, saw Halloween items and Christmas items beside each other, and that's what made him make this movie, as well as the poem that he wrote for it, but yeah, that's very cool, so I would consider it both. I think you can watch it during Halloween and you can watch it during Christmas.
Speaker 1:When was the last time you watched this?
Speaker 2:When was the last time I watched Slammer for Christmas? It was last year, so I should know it. I'm still due to watch it this year, but I'm definitely going to.
Speaker 1:I mean, what makes this most unique is obviously the stop motion in this movie, like how they have claymation in this little bit too, and I mean that is very Tim Burton-y. But at the time you got to figure, like I don't think that was being used a whole lot. Besides, like I mean the original christmas movie, like rudolph the red-nosed reindeers, that was all stop-motion too. Um, but for tim burton to make this alive and make it his own vision, I mean I can look, watch this movie and just tell you it's a tim burton movie because, like from beetlejuice and uh, uh, the bride's corpse I believe it was him he definitely has his own style and this movie is so unique and, like I said, it's the existence of holidays in this universe that come together. They don't even realize that there are other holidays, they think they're the only ones, going from, like I think it's like in a tree stump or something like that. You discover these, you discover these other things.
Speaker 1:And I think he passed by easter, I believe, and some other holiday for the july, yeah, thanksgiving, and then uh, he lands at christmas and can you imagine seeing christmas for the first time and not realizing like, oh shit, this exists and you're used to like spiders and scary things? Um, it's iconic without being iconic. I mean like people recognize it without even seeing the movie, like the ghost and the ghoul, um, some of the other characters, but jack skeleton I've.
Speaker 2:I cannot tell you how many people I've seen tattoos with jack skeleton on them oh yes, and they're like the one of the most famous couples, jack skeleton and sally um. You hear a lot um and yeah. Another fun fact about the doorknob scene is actually it was one of the most complicated scenes to film, um, in the whole thing. It was shot at 12 frames per second and it took around. I think it was the longest shot, with like 150 days. It took them to do just that like five second shot because they wanted the reflection on the doorknob to be perfect that is very incredible, I think similar to like um coralline you talked about earlier too.
Speaker 1:Uh, this it took about 100 people and three years to complete this movie for one second of film. It's incredible how much work goes into it and it makes me wonder, like if they were to make this movie today, how fast they couldn't make it versus that, you know.
Speaker 2:Well, I've heard that possibly that they might be coming out with a Coraline 2. Is that a myth or I think this is clickbait, clickbait.
Speaker 1:All right, man, I can't believe anything on the internet no, because I think the the creators have come out, so they didn't want to do it for a specific reason, but they have re-released it in theaters not too long ago for its anniversary. Um, coralline was way more scarier to me than this one going up. Oh yeah, I watched it not too long ago and it's like a fever dream almost. But Jack Skeleton, he's just so funny too in this movie.
Speaker 2:This movie makes me laugh out loud the music is so innocent, but not really yeah.
Speaker 1:I mean, I think Coraline has a couple songs in there too, but this one definitely I would label as a musical Like what's this when you're discovering it? It's so catchy and the snowfall is amazing in this movie. What are some of your favorite characters in this movie?
Speaker 2:My favorite. I love three kids. All right, the three kids that create mischief throughout the movie is adorable Like Lock, shock and Barrel, I think their names are. They are adorable, um, like lock, shock and barrel, I think their names are. Um, they are so cute and I do like how they add like a little bit comedic kid flair to it.
Speaker 2:So I like them the most. Um, I do like sally, but not as much, of course, as jack skellington, but um, there is a little place in my heart for the boogeyman. Um, I do love his song and like how, like, how much energy he fills like kind of the room with, even though everyone's terrified of him. But I would say those would have to be my favorite I would say the boogeyman is definitely my favorite, like his song just because like.
Speaker 1:I like his song a lot. Probably, I mean just his voice. I should look up the edge's voice, but uh, he, he was incredible in this one. Um, this is the first stop motion animated film to be rated PG. I mean, before that it was always meant for kids, and this one he has to be a little bit older to see, which I can completely see why.
Speaker 2:Is Coraline also PG.
Speaker 1:Oh, I want to say so.
Speaker 2:That one came out in 2000.
Speaker 1:Despite Tim Burton himself or sorry, tim burton himself does not consider oogie boogie evil, nevertheless oogie is still marketed as a villain and is considered one due to his heinous actions against santa sally and jack throughout the movie. I like hearing stuff like this because it makes, like me, think tim burton has such different perspectives than we do as an audience member. He really makes backstories for these characters and most of the time it does shine through. For example, beetlejuice is a big one of Tim Burton's characters and he's so I wouldn't say misunderstood, but perceived different by Tim burton than we perceive.
Speaker 2:well, I would have to say um, with the boogeyman not being, um, a villain. We have to also put it in the eyes of they do come from halloween town. Technically, the boogeyman isn't a bad guy. He's kind of just a guy in the halloween world. Right so it even though santa deems him as the villain in the movie. It's just because it would be the same reason where some people would think like I don't know, like that Santa would be a bad guy in Christmas because he's giving out presents. We don't know where the presents came from.
Speaker 2:I can see where I'm not saying Santa's bad and like trust Santa's presents, but I would say with the boogeyman he, he comes from a world where you know everything is meant like that and it's scary, um, but just because we find it scary doesn't mean it is right. I think that's where tim bray comes from, same with like beetlejuice. He's kind of just he's this guy who, well, actually what is? He's like a corpse, right, and like he, he's this witch or not witch, but like he can get reincarnated and stuff I think like help people, I want to say like a demon, I think he's like a demon who like help people pass to the afterlife.
Speaker 2:I think is what it is, but he just does it in a very funky way if they were to make a sequel to this, would you be excited about that?
Speaker 2:or kind of like nah, let it be so this is another little fun fact I have about tim burton is that he actually stayed away from sequels in the nightmare before christmas. He didn't want it to get so big to be where. It would be like the nightmare before thanksgiving, the nightmare before easter. He felt like it would ruin what was originally created. So, yes, I would love to see a sequel of it, but I feel like if you did do that, you are opening it up to be a little more messy. If that makes sense.
Speaker 2:If you do explore all the different traditions.
Speaker 1:I mean, I don't think Tim Burton has done too many sequels at all. I think Beatles is the only exception, if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, I agree, if he does Thanksgiving and other holidays, I would not like that, like if he does like thanksgiving and other holidays, I would not like that. But if you were to revisit christmas again in a different way or furthering the story, I think that would be cool.
Speaker 2:I think it would be cool, it would be interesting. Like I know it would never happen, but it would be interesting to see a sequel. Um, vice versa someone from, let's say, the grinch christmas, like not specifically the grinch, but someone from from Christmas land coming into Halloween seeing like how, being like how scary that is right. Being like giving presents to kids on Christmas, to be like, oh well, you either get a trick or a treat on Halloween. Like that's not OK, like it would be interesting to see the difference of it.
Speaker 1:I mean, he could be the Krampus of the Christmas then you know he could be Krampus.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that would be.
Speaker 1:There is the conspiracy theory that the Grinch is Jack Skeleton. And then, you know, his dog Max becomes a ghost dog.
Speaker 2:Oh, yeah, and then that's how it ties into. I have heard the Tim Burton storylines like connect with each other, that like Frank and Weenie is actually Max, but I'm not. I'm not too sure about that.
Speaker 1:I'm not buying that either. Do you think that a live action version could work in this kind of movie?
Speaker 2:absolutely. I still, I think Coraline like I'm not trying to bring in Coraline to the conversation, but they're very similar. I definitely think it would look very cool with a live action, if done right with the right people, like if it had the same tone as, like, edward scissorhands or sweeney todd.
Speaker 1:I definitely think it could work um and like with the edward scissorhands, like you know, going into the halloween world, have like a sweeney tog-esque look, whereas when you go to christmas land, it has, like edward, scissorhands with like the light pastels um without a place, character yeah, I mean we are in the time where, right now, there's a lot of live action animated movies coming to life and they're just killing it like uh, sonic is a big one, uh, lilo and stitch the new trailer just came out like today, I think, uh how to train your dragon just how to train dragon.
Speaker 1:I mean, they are making it work, so it is not impossible for it to happen. Um, I don't think I want to see it, unless tim burton is I would want to be involved, yeah which is the same way with beatles too. You know like a lot of people wanted to happen for years, but it wasn't until tim burton was on that the original cast wanted to come back for it. Um, he's also producing wednesday too, and directing a couple episodes as well yes, he is, and he's very excited about that.
Speaker 1:Um, I mean, what are some other facts that you have going on for this movie?
Speaker 2:um other facts that I have about this movie. Um, is that, yeah, it took three years to shoot. The doorknob scene was the biggest scene, but other than that I not I don't actually have like that much more other than the mad scientist. There was something with him, but I forget what it was. He was like one of the hardest characters to move around, apparently. Oh, I can see that.
Speaker 1:There is a show on Netflix called the Christmas Movies that Made Us and it's just behind the scenes, like how they made it and it's like a documentary style, but I believe the Night Before Christmas is on there. It is such a great watch to learn a lot of quick facts about it. I think it's only less than an hour or two, definitely watch it.
Speaker 1:It's definitely worth a watch. Sorry, and a random fact I just found right now the Wolfman is shown wearing a night. It's definitely worth a watch, sorry. And then a random fact I just found right now the Wolfman is shown wearing a nightgown and cap that resembles the one worn by Granny in the classic fable Little Red Riding Hood. I mean, if you start including stuff like that, like from other fairy tales and stuff like that, I think that the storytelling could be limitless in this kind of world.
Speaker 1:Like you're saying you could like break out into different different fairy tales, like like three little pigs and stuff like that.
Speaker 2:You know you could do all kinds of stuff I feel like with tim burton, if you were ever to do fairy tale movies he would definitely do like the old uh, what is it? Grim walls version or whatever it was called, all the like like twisted versions of it or the classic versions, if you know them, like of like aerial and stuff you seem like the kind of person that would have the actual poem to like the poem book.
Speaker 2:I just I used to. When I was younger I really liked creepy stuff, like I was very into creepy pasta, creepy nests, so like I do, like the criminal's version and stuff um say you know, this is a way down the line.
Speaker 1:That way down the line, if you have kids like, how soon do you think you would show your kids this movie?
Speaker 2:um, that's a great question actually, because I do plan to have kids not soon, but like soon. I'm getting to an age where it's like I wouldn't mind them, but I think I would honestly show them not really young, like, of course, that's where you show Elf the Grinch, right, get them warmed up.
Speaker 2:But, considering I watched it during grade one, as long as they know what they're watching. So I would say probably kindergarten, grade two, but I would, I would explain to them that like it's not like a normal mood, like you got to be okay, but yeah right I would still say young, but not too old. I don't think you have to be that old to watch it, yeah not bad, not bad at all.
Speaker 1:I mean, there are, like I like seeing pop-up bars with stuff like this the night before christmas. Those are very fun, um, and people get really into. I love seeing the halloween costumes of this. I think it's very unique. Oh yeah, um, something I would. Cosplay is probably not and it's. This is honestly like. This is not one of the movies I would put on every single year, but it is so popular like it's hard not to watch it. You know, uh, but what would you rate this movie?
Speaker 2:one out of ten honestly, for its time and stuff, I would definitely do a nine out of ten. The claymation is perfect and just the trend. Like it's just so cool seeing a world be introduced to a new holiday that's never existed. Like, imagine if some entity just sprung on a new holiday for us. Like how would we react? Right, not to say we would have to follow it, but yeah yeah, that's a good.
Speaker 1:That's a good, uh way to put it. I mean, um, you said it like I I was gonna say if this movie's ahead of its time, but it really isn't. Like, I think it's perfect where it was, but it is timeless, like it's something I could enjoy 30 years from now. Most of the christmas movies are like I'll fucking enjoy whenever. Uh, how it's how the grinch stole christmas. That's going to be timeless movie. Um, but this movie is perfect and it is very impressive to be done in the 90s, like how it was. Um, so for that alone, like, I probably even saw a 9 out of 10 too.
Speaker 1:Um, but now I want to move on to how the Grinch Stole Christmas, a live action Dr Seuss film. I believe it's the first Dr Seuss live action adaptation and, for those of you who don't know, on the outskirts of Whoville lives a green revenge seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all the citizens of the town. Directed by Ron Howard, who also directed the Home Alone series, and written based on the citizens of the town, directed by ron howard, who also directed the home alone series, and, uh, written based on the book of dr seuss, starring jim carrey, who plays the grinch um. He has come out several different times like over the years talking about how this movie was. I mean, it was miserable for him making this in that suit all day.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Which that fur, that suit it made a real yak fur, I believe Just dyed green and you know you have that makeup all over your face and everything he had to hire like a personal like I want to not want to say trainer but like someone from the military to help him cope with like interrogation or Like a therapist kind of but not a therapist torture, the torture kind of guy, like help dealing with it, like. So his advice wasn't just eat a bunch of snacks like cupcakes and stuff like that and smoke as much as you can like to help you get through it, because he would have panic attacks in that suit a lot, which I I could totally see happening. Yeah.
Speaker 2:And didn't the makeup take hours to put on the prosthetics and stuff I couldn't imagine?
Speaker 1:I think they took some prosthetics off because Jim Carrey has such an ability to change his face automatically that he didn't need as much prosthetics as you think he would that they didn't need as much prosthetics as you think you would. He's been offered millions of dollars to do a sequel to this, but he just doesn't want to do it because he doesn't want to ruin it, which I'm all on board for. I didn't even know what a sequel would look like. That would be great to this day.
Speaker 2:I was going to say yeah, because if his heart already grew three sides, it's like what do we just get a nice Grinch like.
Speaker 1:I mean, unless they put out a new villain and have him like fight against him, which I don't know, they don't need to do another sequel, and I mentioned this is one of the first adaptations of a Dr Seuss, a live action one.
Speaker 1:the only other live adaptation of a Dr Seuss book was Cat in the Hat oh, really wow and Dr Seuss is, you know, obviously has passed, or like in the 90s, I believe not long earlier and is survived by his wife, and his wife has to say so what movies gets made about his books? Well, the can the hat sucks. So bad for her that she hated it so much that she's like we're not doing this ever again so that's why there's never been an adaptation of a dr seuss book.
Speaker 1:We do have like stuff like the lorax and um other dr seuss books, and we do even have another grinch movie that is animated too, that is yes, the new one one of the uh biggest animated.
Speaker 2:I want to say I forgot what number list it is in the top 10 of the biggest animated movies of all time oh really, I never saw the newest one so I'm not too sure about the new one, but I have like seen clips of.
Speaker 1:It seems pretty funny yeah I mean it does give like vibes like, uh, despicable me and stuff like that. You know, you can see why it's big and stuff like that, uh, but this one is just funny for the simple fact of jim carrey alone doing a lot of improvisation and his physical features that he like, said he just his facial feature, make facial facial features, make this movie work alone. Um, I've been reading on some like stuff like was improvised, like that scene where he's like posing like what's aware, to this, this, this dinner, and he's like, oh, ah, that's it, I'm not going. Yeah, that was completely improvised. That scene where he's like posing like what's aware, to this, this, this dinner, and he's like, ooh, ah, that's it, I'm not going yeah, that was completely improvised, that scene where he pulls the cloth from the table.
Speaker 2:That was improvised. Yeah, that wasn't supposed to happen. No, it wasn't, it was perfect yeah.
Speaker 1:It was his idea to go back and knock it over. Such a great detail, detail, um. But this movie broke records for the longest time. Up until last year, I believe, it had the record for the most extras, with prosthetics all over, like the most prosthetics, and it wasn't broken until, uh, guardians of the galaxy 3, like last year. That's how big of it was, how long it was, wow, um. And there's such iconic characters. You have cindy lu, who people dress up as all the time. Still, you have Max, who's a dog and still memorable in this movie, may, who is the mayor, I believe, martha May, even the dad, lou Lou, who Betty Lou, and even the Grinch, the Grinch's younger self, is played by Josh Ryan Evans, who I believe since past, since his movies came out or since recently. I think this is probably my top three Christmas movies of all time. How about you?
Speaker 2:Absolutely. It's a classic and it's so good. Jim Carrey is just so perfect, and any movie he just is flawless with it, so I would definitely say it's in my top three as well.
Speaker 1:Do you think this movie would have been better if it was a musical?
Speaker 2:that's a good question. Um, I'm not sure, because I think it's perfect how it is, and though I personally love musicals a lot, not everyone does. Um, and a lot of people I think if it were a musical, I don't think it would be as big and timeless as it is. I'm not trying to say that because I know Nightmare Before Christmas is technically a musical, but I feel like a lot of people tend to stray away when it is musicals. Um, because some people argue that it takes you away out of the immersion, even though I don't think so. Um, so I I don't think it needed to be a musical, but it definitely could have been.
Speaker 1:If that makes it yeah I believe there's broadway plays, if not mistaken, of the grinch, if not broadway off, broadway plays of the grinch that have been turned into musicals. Um, and I 100 agree with you, it's going to turn a lot of people away and if it were to come out with a musical now, that'll probably be the worst mistake you ever could do. Uh, because you already established it's not a musical world and we just seem to like it. Flops so hard with the joker 2, how they turn the sequel into a musical, not the first one. Everyone hated it.
Speaker 2:I wanted to go see it because it's very interesting how they do this nowadays. I don't know if you've noticed it, but musicals that come out are not advertised as musicals, and that is actually the Joker 2 is what got me. I was so excited because you know Lady Gaga was going to be in it.
Speaker 2:And I actually didn't end up seeing it because someone told me it was a musical and I was like not anywhere did I see it was in a musical. So I didn't end up going to seeing it and I'm glad I didn't, because I've heard a lot of people did not like it.
Speaker 1:I mean I think it is worth a watch. It is a disappointment for a follow-up to the greatest success of the Joker. I mean we meant for a follow-up to the greatest sex of the success of the joker. Um, I mean, there's lots of things I could hate on it too. I do try to find positives about it.
Speaker 1:The singing and the music itself isn't bad at all, it's just I don't think it ties into the joker world like no it's not no and it kills everything that you thought was real and it is kind of a disappointing movie, but I'm still glad I watched it, like I exactly. Yeah, I don't know, maybe down the line I'll watch it again, but not anytime soon, um, I mean we want to talk about disappointing musicals?
Speaker 2:I I do have a movie, but we don't have to talk about it no, go ahead.
Speaker 1:We got time, we can. Let's say what's um.
Speaker 2:Did you ever see the mean girls musical?
Speaker 1:yeah, yeah, I talked about that in this podcast before.
Speaker 2:I love Rene Rapp. I do love the characters but I Great songs and I do like the musical. Alan Broadway is a musical but I think as a movie one of the weirdest choices to make.
Speaker 1:I would say filming-wise. I think that movie was made for a very, very specific audience and everyone didn't realize that. Everyone thought it was for everybody, like who loved the original one who was it made for?
Speaker 2:like kids?
Speaker 1:I think it was made for, like people who loved the broadway version honestly broadway.
Speaker 2:Yeah well, I guess that's the same with wicked, but I feel like wicked is bigger because of ariana grande and everyone just kind of loves her that is true, yeah, but it's um going back to the great.
Speaker 1:So what are some of your favorite gags in this? Because I think one of my favorite jokes in this whole movie is like towards the end, when they're running down the sleigh and cindy losing the sleigh with him and they can't stop and she's like dad, get out the way. And the dad's just standing there with his palm. I was like what are you gonna?
Speaker 2:do? You're not gonna do much even the grinch goes. Dad, get out the way uh, I think my favorite gig. I can't what is it. It's like where he goes, like I can't remember exactly, but it's. It's a scene where he's like, oh, I'm like so, like, oh, something smells, and even though it's like it's him, but he's like is it you? I think it's his dog. He's like what smell? Are you stinking, is it you? And then he's like oh, it's got to be you, it's not.
Speaker 1:Do you think you could live in a place like Whoville, where they're constantly singing?
Speaker 2:Absolutely. I think so. Yeah, I think I would like it because it brings a lot of community. I feel like a lot not to get like really crazy with it, but I feel like with social media and stuff, you don't even know who your neighbor is. Nowadays they say that like 48% of people don't know who their neighbor is and I would love to bring back the feeling of like getting together locally with your community regardless if it's singing or not, but I think having a good sense of community in your home is like really good, pretty good point.
Speaker 2:Were you a theater kid growing up? Absolutely, I, uh, absolutely I um got my first lead role, uh, in school, when I was in grade uh six. No I played in a musical for the Secret Garden was what the musical was called and I played a snobby little girl who had to learn matters basically.
Speaker 1:I took an improv class once in high school and it was for a girl, obviously, and she moved and I got stuck doing the class by myself. I was a shy, quiet kid in class. I did nothing, obviously. Oh, and she moved and I got stuck doing the class by myself and like I just I was, I was a shy, quiet kid in class, like I did nothing. I was even the teacher. I was like why are you here?
Speaker 1:that's why you never do anything to impress her yeah, exactly, um, one of the I mean, have you ever a lot of? The trend is like people dress up as santa claus for going to the kids on halloween and halloween at christmas time, uh, but the big trend lately is too is people dressing up as the grinch and just like tormenting the kids, like pretending like they're stealing their presents. Do you think that's a little bit too far, or do you think that's all in good fun?
Speaker 2:I literally saw a video on tiktok last night of a grinch coming through the door and the poor little girl screams so much she jumps and falls over like she is traumatized. I'm very middle about it because I think it's funny. But then there's a lot of people who say, you know, like that's childhood trauma right there. Like I don't think that's good for the kids, like I don't think that's good for the kids. But at the same time I think it's only good if your kids know, like have watched the Grinch and know who the Grinch is, to do it, because I feel like they'd still be terrified but they would understand that he's only coming to steal presents. But I don't know, would I do it personally? Probably, but I don't know if.
Speaker 1:I would do that to my kids. I mean, a big thing also is pop-up bars. I mentioned before in the last movie. I love going to a Grinch pop-up bar. Have you been to Universal in Florida? I? Have not excuse me, there's a whole Whoville land there and at Christmas time they do have a Grinch that can take photos and stuff like that oh yeah, and he's so sassy and stuff.
Speaker 2:I've seen him before on the internet. Yes, I love sassy cringe.
Speaker 1:Um just guesstimated. How many times would you say have you watched this movie?
Speaker 2:I watched it a lot more um back in like middle school and stuff, but I would say I've definitely watched it six over six, seven times.
Speaker 1:I would say it's not a lot, but like those are low numbers.
Speaker 2:Those are low numbers. I'm not a movie repeater, um I I. Once I see a movie, it's very hard for me to watch it again. Um, but it's very different when it comes to like TV series for me. Tv series I can rewatch and watch and watch TV series I can rewatch and watch, and watch.
Speaker 2:But movies I find hard to watch over Cause I already know how it's going to end, If that makes sense, and I get bored Like it's hard. Call me an iPad kid, but it's like it's hard to keep paying attention after a while. But I watch it basically once a year. But yeah, I've died down.
Speaker 1:I cannot tell you how many times I've seen the Grinch. It's definitely in the triple digits, I would say, like through my whole life. Wow, who? My sister's a big Grinch person too, and now my niece, who's starting to watch movies too. We're pushing that on her, honestly. But Moana is a big one. It's going to be coming to our theaters pretty soon, and my niece is obsessed with Moana, so we're going to be doing that one with Moana. So we're going to be doing that one, probably going to make that a Christmas tradition honestly too, with watching Moana movies. We talked about live action a little bit ago, too. Moana's coming out with a live action set.
Speaker 2:With the Rock too.
Speaker 1:With the Rock and we just got photos of the Rock as Maui in that movie. People are saying he's wearing a muscle suit, which is kind of weird Really. And there people are saying he's wearing like a muscle suit, which is kind of weird really. And there's two theories on that, like one is like me, I don't think he just wants to sit through the makeup, like because he's covering tattoos. And two, like maui is like a very drastic, muscly kind of guy, like it's it's different muscles than the rock has, but anyways, I'm excited for that one either way. I'm actually more excited about the live soundtracks for these moana movies.
Speaker 2:Um, I really like moana I love her too.
Speaker 1:And then, uh, I don't think we talked about it already, but the grinch would not work, I don't think, as a musical. Um, would you like to see a sequel to this movie though we talked about a little bit earlier, we did a little bit, it's hard to kind of see a sequel to this movie though we talked about a little bit earlier.
Speaker 2:We did a little bit. It's hard to kind of create a sequel. The only way I could see a sequel happening is if the Grinch was to have a kid I think you could put it that way Because then is the kid going to be nasty, like you know, kind of teaching them the ways of like Christmas.
Speaker 1:But it's very hard considering you know, you know the cringe changed as a person that day you know here and he described.
Speaker 1:That makes me think that that movie would go straight to streaming and not even the theaters yeah um, like I could see you could do a spin-off tv series possibly yeah, but I would say, um, they could do a prequel too, but you already get a good look into his kid life, which we haven't talked about. That, because that's one of my favorite parts of the movie, is when you see him as a little kid too like. You see him flying in to Whoville on this little basket lands in this couple's house. Clearly a swingers party is going on in the background I don't know if you caught that and you see him growing up a little bit, growing up green and hairy uh, very true, like as an outcast no one's really questioning either like, like you know, it makes you think too, like where was he supposed to go if he was not going here? You know, there's probably a whole other land with um the grinches.
Speaker 1:And you know, this whole movie is taking place on a snowflake too oh my god.
Speaker 2:Yeah, because they're who's, and who's are very tiny yeah, because here's a who is on a dandelion, oh my goodness in the beginning of the movie. It shows them like zooming in on a snowflake zooming onto a snowflake, but you know, that kind of goes past your head once the movie starts.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so that makes you think like yeah, there's some microscopic grinches out there yeah, I don't even know what that would look like, honestly, but I mean that'd be cool like that alone too, like to see who replaced him in that world. You know like a reverse kind of person, um, you know like a reverse kind of person, um, what are some of the Christmas? I mean? What would you rate this movie?
Speaker 2:1 out of 10 um, definitely not as high as Nightmare Before Christmas, because I think the claymation takes it for me. But Jim Carrey is so good, probably an 8.5.
Speaker 1:I rate?
Speaker 2:yeah, it's still pretty high. I forgot what would the? 1. It's still pretty high, I forgot. Oh, go ahead.
Speaker 1:Sorry. What would the 1.5 be for you, though?
Speaker 2:What would the 0.5 be?
Speaker 1:1.5. Like what would the 1.5?
Speaker 2:be oh the 1.5.
Speaker 1:To make it a good 10.
Speaker 2:That's a good question.
Speaker 1:It's kind of a hard question, yeah, that is a hard question, yeah. I would. It's kind of a short movie. I would like to say a little bit longer, um, but I would give this a solid nine out of ten. It is very good movie. Timeless movie. Jim carrey is incredible in it. Um, jim carrey is a talented actor. He still keeps saying he's retiring from movies, but yeah, he's coming out with these sonic movies. Yeah, um, and are you gonna see sonic? That's coming out Christmas too, I believe.
Speaker 2:Is that the one where Shadow is introduced?
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:So wait, keanu Reeves is voicing Shadow. I did not know that, but I was going to say Shadow was my childhood crush when it came to like if you remember the specific what is it? It's like Nintendo Stars Gymnastics or it was like All-Stars and you could play as different characters. I loved playing as shadow as a kid.
Speaker 1:I thought he was so cool shadow is one of the badass characters. Um, I mean shadow. I mean sonic 3 is going to be on this podcast. I still gotta go through and watch the first two. I've never seen them and I know they're highly regarded. Um, is there any movies coming out the remaining of this year or next year that you heard of that you're kind of excited for?
Speaker 2:um, let me quickly google it sure, sure there's a lot sorry.
Speaker 2:Um, I was gonna say, uh, if I could have like thought about it, my, I should have said that one of my all-time favorite movies was Rise of the Guardians. Jack Frost was literally my childhood crush. I loved him growing up and I, even after watching that movie, I thought what was I going to say. I thought that I thought Jack Frost was real for like three years. I really did. But no, our little secret that's coming out is what I'm excited for about. That's the one with Lindsay Lsey lohan coming out, and it's coming out christmas, I'm pretty sure our little secret.
Speaker 1:I don't think I I don't think I've heard of that one, or that's what I said it's coming out.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and it's just. It's basically from what I've got from. It is she starts dating this new man. This man has a giant family. She goes home for christmas and finds out that her like ex-husband that of like that she hasn't speaking to his years is there, and then they basically end up talking and stuff. So I'm not sure how the movie's gonna go, because I mean, it seems like they like fall in love again, but I don't know how that's gonna be a take, considering she's dating someone. I don't know.
Speaker 1:I don't know how it's gonna go I'm just, I'm just kind of like ready for lindsey lohan to come back to the big screen.
Speaker 2:Honestly, that's all yeah she looks so much better like whether it's botox that some people argue about, she does look like she's like good again and not to say she did have a little falling off for a couple years.
Speaker 1:She's coming out with freakier friday. How'd you feel about that?
Speaker 2:freakier friday. I did watch freaky friday when it came out and I think that's it's going to be good, I think so I always love I think, movies like that are cool, do you not think it's gonna be good?
Speaker 1:that's tough, like it's been so, so long, and I think they're going to be introducing, like it's her kid that they're switching bodies with now, or something like that.
Speaker 2:So is it like a mother and a child. Well, I guess that's what it was last time, wasn't it? The mom and kid switched. Yeah, yeah, she's just older now I don't know.
Speaker 1:I want to have faith in it but at the same time, like I'm not really holding my breath. Um, but there's a lot of good movies coming out next year. A lot of big. Next thing. What are you excited for Most recently? Moana 2. Obviously, by the time this movie comes out, this episode comes out, moana would have been in theaters already.
Speaker 2:But Mufasa, I'm actually looking forward to.
Speaker 1:It's a lot of Disney. It's a lot of Disney, yeah, yeah, next year, obviously Fantastic Four. I'm a big superhero guy. Fantastic Four with Pedro Pascal trying to think what else is big?
