Oxytocin

- Trade: Pitocin
- Class: Hormone
- MOA: Increases Uterine Contractions
- Indications: Postpartum hemorrhage after infant and placental delivery
- Contraindications: Presence of a second fetus, unfavorable fetal position.
- Side effects: Hypotension, Hypertension, tachycardia, arrhythmias, angina, seizures, N/V, uterine rupture, anaphylaxis.
- Dosing:
- IM: 3-10 units after delivery of placenta
- IV: 20-40 milliunits/min titrate to severity of bleeding.
