The Power of Alignment: Shifting from Striving to Flow with Rebekah Hogan

00:03 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Hello, hello, jj DiGeronimo here and, as many of you know, I am a seeker. I'm a soul seeker, and while I was writing Seeking my third book, I was really excited to share the practitioners I visited and the practices that I have been exploring. That really helped me work from inside out, and I'm super excited to have Rebecca Hogan with me today, because she does a lot of this work with women, women entrepreneurs that are really looking for more success from the inside out, and so I'm so excited to introduce you to her today. Rebecca, thank you so much for joining us.

00:42 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Oh, thank you so much for having me here. I'm so excited to talk about this stuff. It just lights me up.

00:49 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Oh, my goodness. And I love the title the Power of Alignment because we feel like alignment for many is something that many speak of but often don't have the opportunity to really understand or work towards. So what does alignment mean to you?

01:09 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

I mean, it has many meanings, right, but whenever I'm talking about success, what I'm really talking about is the alignment of your thoughts, your beliefs, your values, and how it energetically shows up so that you can align to the success that you're trying to create in your life. There has to be an energetic alignment to the goal in which you're trying to achieve, and that all starts with what's going on inside of your head, and so it's the thoughts that you're thinking that create the energy that you feel that you emit out to the world that then allows you to move towards the goals you're trying to achieve.

01:53 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

I've had to do a lot of this work and it started about 14 years ago. I had to mute the negative and, honestly, I thought I was a super positive person. But I monitored my thoughts Hour by hour. I would carry a pad of paper around and any time I would have a thought that was positive, I would check one side of the list and any time I thought that was negative, I'd check the other side and I was surprised to see how many times I said something that wasn't very flattering. Now, it never came out of my mouth, but it was things that I would say about myself, about what I was watching a conversation I was in. This is not something that comes naturally, this alignment of the positive. So what do you do and how do you teach people to start with this?

02:39 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Yeah, so I have what's called the five pillars of abundant success, and it's the key elements that are critical to manifest anything that you want in life, and alignment is a portion of that. But in order to achieve the alignment, you've got to do other work ahead of time. Right, like you said, you don't just go into alignment. You can't just go okay, I want to feel alignment. There are tricks, energetic tricks that we can do. But to have your inner voice constantly be in alignment with what you're wanting to create in your future is a process. And so it starts with self-awareness, because you can't fix what you don't know. So keeping the list is fabulous to create that self-awareness. Right, because you didn't even realize how much negativity was going on inside of your head. So the self-awareness is the first part. The second piece is your perspective, and a main component of that perspective being coming from a place of gratitude, being able to see that in which you have to be thankful for, because that is the ultimate state of receiving, and really manifesting is really it's creating, but it's having to be open to allow to receive Right. And then the third step, and that is what I call the self work. So this is self-love, self-compassion, self-grace, self-worth, self-trust. It's all the selves.

04:09

This is where I say being selfish is your superpower, because your world really does revolve around you. Because if we go back to perspective, how I see myself changes, how I see what's outside of me, how I see the world in general, and so we have to do the self-work around us. That is when we can start moving into flexibility, because we trust ourselves, because we love ourselves. Whenever we love ourselves and we're not looking outside of ourselves for validation is when it's okay to fail, it's okay to screw things up, it's okay to have lips in life, because we're not worried about what other people will think about us, and this is when we lean in to the discomfort.

04:58

So this is whenever I say flexibility, I'm not saying like being flexible with just like. Oh, I'm going to allow this to show up a different way. I'm talking about being flexible with your beliefs, flexible with your values, because that is really what creates the energy and the thoughts in our body, and so it's being able to notice those moments whenever life is. Being able to notice those moments whenever life is, you're saying something in your head that doesn't feel good in your body and you're going wait, that's not serving me, that thought isn't serving me, helping me move towards my goals. And it's being flexible and being able to either suspend or change the belief, because what good is the belief if it doesn't help you get what you want to get? And then the last and final is the alignment, because without doing all of that other work, then you're not going to be able to stay in that constant state of alignment.

05:56 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. So those are easy. I mean, you've definitely hit on some key points for me that I definitely want to dive back into. So self awareness obviously is such a big point, right, that is so important to just know how you're feeling in certain situations, what you want to lean towards, what you don't. I'm sure you expand well beyond that, right. The self awareness piece.

06:18 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Yeah.

06:18 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

And I think you have to teach yourself gratitude. I don't think it comes easily. I think we are conditioned to pick things apart and have judgment and block things that don't make sense or categorize things for us to understand, and so it really takes a lot of training to get to a place of gratitude, and for me, I had to start at the very simplest things, right? Thank you for this hot cup of coffee, thank you for putting both feet on the ground, thank you for gas in my gas tank. I mean, that's how I started. Gratitude was every moment I could be grateful, I was grateful and I feel like it took serious training.

06:57 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Yeah Well, and people like tend to like gloss over gratitude, like gratitude is easy.

07:03

Gratitude is not easy Because, as you say, it's so easy to go to actually the negative.

07:08

We're born with a negative bias, right, because that is what keeps us alert, to have our judgment, so that we can be safe, because that's the whole purpose of our brain is to keep us alive and safe.

07:19

So we're born with a negative bias and so we're naturally wired to look for the negative in things, the things that will keep us from being safe. And so to have a gratitude focus is absolutely more than just saying thank you for this life, thank you, thank you for my home, thank you for my family, and I love that you said the simple things, because I refer to those as the granular things, like being very, very granular because we can act. Really big picture about gratitude, but whenever we can say, oh, thank you for my kids, and then on the backside go you're complaining in your head about the tone of voice that they use or how much their college is costing, right, and so you're saying I'm grateful, but then you're picking apart all the little granular, granular things inside of it and it's like start with the granular and then it automatically all big things are built on the small things, right. So gratitude is huge and not as easy as people think.

08:23 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

And I had to start there. I mean it took me months and months and years to just have be really grateful for just every step of the way. And I thought that and I read some books right, get Rich, lucky Bitch, that was had a real big piece of gratitude in. That was a really good book for me to just recognize how to have gratitude, like having gratitude for the penny you find on the ground, having gratitude for cart being in the parking lot when you have to bring in a big return. I mean really simple things. But it trained me to find gratitude and I feel like that is such a big piece of shifting your frequency, shifting your energy.

09:03

But I want to tap into the next thing you talk about, which is self-love, selfish, being selfish. I think that's super hard for women. Like, how I think, when people think of being selfish, they also think of the large things and not the small things that can get us through the day. And like, do you have to take every call or drive every kid or get every kid their favorite snack? Like sometimes being selfish is just saying we are all eating this today.

09:35 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Selfish is just saying we are all eating this today.

09:38

Yeah, yeah, selfish is definitely a conditioned fear that women have of being selfish, because from a very, very early age, we're taught that we play a specific role in life and our worth is based on how we help other people.

09:54

We are the nurturers, we are the ones that keep everything going, and there's so much about our job is to make everybody else feel good at our own sacrifice, right At our loss. And when we're making other people feel good, then we're doing our job and then we feel good about ourselves. And so if someone else says, oh, it's your fault that I'm not happy because you didn't make me what I want to eat for dinner, then it attacks our sense of self-worth. And so to flip it, to find our self-worth inside, is critical, so that we can get to that point where we can, we can recognize that we are actually, in trying to not be selfish, we're teaching everybody around us to be selfish at our expense, right, and? And the thing is is that we need to be able to give ourselves that permission to take care of ourselves, because, I mean, we all know that, like whole oxygen mask thing, right, put your oxygen mask on before you take care of someone else, and, and, and it's really so much bigger than that. It's not just self love.

11:09 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Yeah, I just think thank you, because I am so over that comment and I go to so many women's events I can't tell you how many times someone says that to me but it's like it's so much more than that, like that is in a disastrous situation, pick yourself first, okay great, but like let's talk about day to day.

11:29 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Yeah Well. And then we look at. We look at just the effect that it has on everybody around us, and there's that saying like we teach people how to treat us and then if we're complaining about our relationships and stuff, but if we're not taking care of ourselves, how in the world are we going to expect someone to take care of us, to treat us well, to treat us with respect, whenever we don't respect ourselves? So everything starts from within.

11:52

And it's not getting my hair done, it's not getting my hair done, it's not getting my nails done. It's saying that I am worthy, I am good enough, just as I am. Like if you believe that there's something greater, a greater power outside of you that has conspired to create everything in existence. Something already said you are worthy to be here, right? You don't have to prove yourself, you don't have to earn it. And being perfect never taught anybody any lessons. It didn't teach your kids lessons, it didn't teach your spouse lessons, it didn't help anybody grow. And so to act perfect is, and to achieve, to try to achieve perfect.

12:35 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

How boring would that be if we were all perfect, because to be perfect, we would all have to be the same, and then we might as well be robots, right away from perfectionism, because I feel like women and I think this happens at a really young age, right we're taught to do things, everything right, and whether that's because it's passed on from one of our parents or passed on from a teacher, women naturally seem like they have to do that, and you really have to work to decouple from those expectations of yourself, because underlying that is really fear, and it's fear of not being good enough, it's fear of being discovered, fear of not being the one for whatever job or whatever situation, and so I had to do a lot of this work that you're speaking of, rebecca, because I realized that these external accolades were not filling me up the way I thought they were going to, and I hit a brick wall in a really big way that I found myself kind of just.

13:41

It was just, it was a tower moment for me and I think you'd have the same midlife you mentioned to me and I think the work you're doing is so important for women. And so tell me a little bit about what alignment looks like.

13:57 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

What does alignment look like? Alignment looks like ease and flow. Right, alignment is. You know, I was just having a conversation with my mom last night and she said, if you were going through what I'm going through, then I'm not sure that it would be as easy as you make it sound like it would be. And I was like mom, you have no clue what I go through in my life every single day. Because I make it look easy, because I'm in alignment, because I am flexible, because, energetically, I'm not giving my energy to things that I don't want to happen. Instead, I am giving my energy to the things that I don't want to happen. Instead, I am giving my energy to the things that I want to happen. And it's, it's so it. What it looks like is ease. It looks like flow, it looks like radiance.

14:50

Is it hard work is like to to achieve success. Do we sit and just meditate and have the million dollar house just like magically appear? No, there is work to be done, but in the alignment, the work is no longer hard. And that's really what alignment looks like. It's leaning into the things that are hard, with excitement, with the anticipation of what that's going to bring into our life, instead of the fear, instead of the scarcity, instead of the worry of if it doesn't work, it's the abandonment of it, needing to work out exactly to plan right. It's the release of the outcome. And this is something that I'm sure you've ran into, that I think that when we talk about release from the outcome, it's not saying that I don't want it. It's not like saying, okay, let's create this, but oh, I can't really allow myself to want it because I need to release from the outcome. It's staying in that energetic alignment and being okay with however it shows up, recognizing that it can show up differently, and that's part of the release from outcome. And if it doesn't happen in your timeline, like that's the other thing. It's like keep going, keep staying in that energetic alignment of ease, flow being so.

16:23

I had a conversation this morning with my husband about something and he's like, and I said, look, you imagine how cool would it be if, and you imagine the thing coming to life, what it would feel like, and I said, not, I need this to happen, not from a place of need, from a place of curiosity, from a place of creativity, from a place of just, wouldn't that be freaking awesome? Right, and then, and then be okay with if it doesn't happen today, just be like, yeah, it'll still be awesome when it happens and keep going with that. And whenever there's a setback, you don't go. Oh see, there it goes. We have a tendency to just go up it's out the door, it's not going to plan, it's never going to happen, and instead it's going okay. Well, that wasn't that one wasn't supposed to be meant to be. So then you lean into the next one, right. And when things get tough, that is the expansion point. That's when we really lean in and that's what alignment looks like. Right Is being excited about leaning into that threshold of hard.

17:36 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Well, I agree with you wholeheartedly and I would say that I wish I knew you in 2016 when I was going through this, because it would have made it a lot easier for me. I ended up running around to over 50 energy practitioners trying to figure out how do I move from working from the out. Yeah, and just since I've known you, I love your Instagram posts. Rebecca's Instagram is below so you can check it out, but one of my favorites is stop chasing right. Stop chasing what you think is best for you, and I always say if not this, then better, if not this, then more aligned. Where I am going? Because, as you said earlier on, we have no idea what our full journey is and we might only know a sliver of the possibilities. But if we open it up, where we have pure alignment from the inside out, we are working with the universe to create the best version of our journey here as a soul, and I truly trust that in everything that happens, if not this, then something that's better aligned for my soul.

18:51 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

I love that so much. I love that so much, and that's where the self-love, the self-work, comes into play. Right Is being in the trusting that it's okay if this isn't it, because whatever, we don't love ourselves, then we judge the outside world against us to either make ourselves feel worse or to make ourselves feel better. And the judgment comes in play. And anytime we judge something, we're resisting something which then pushes away that which we are trying to attain, because we think that that thing's going to make us feel better. And so that's again where we have to go back to that self-love piece so that we can get to that alignment piece, so that we stop judging ourselves and we're okay in the messy middle getting to that other thing. But the thing is is that you're never going to get the thing. Until you're okay being in the messy middle, until the messy middle is the place to be, you're just soaking in life.

19:53 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

Let me dive into that messy middle. And you know I'm a big believer that we project our existence, we project our experiences, and so we attract the lesson we need when we need it.

20:05

And I think you can really jump over some of these hard lessons and hurdles if you do shift the focus internally. And you talk a lot about that. Mastering the inner world is the secret to success and I love that post of yours on Instagram. Mastering the inner world is the secret to success and I feel like that, for me, has been so powerful because when I started making that shift from stretching and striving to achieve and get those accolades, recognitions and metrics that said I'm good enough when I shifted to you know, sort of leaving living from the inside, how does this make me feel? Do I want to lean into this? Is this the work I feel like I should be doing? What magic can I see happening right now through the gratitude? It's amazing how much more beautiful my outside world has become and the opportunities that have presented themselves, because I am at a different frequency, I'm aligned to a higher energy and I'm attracting higher energy.

21:08 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Yeah, yeah, a hundred percent. I mean so. So I had had a vision of I wanted to move to Maui. I wanted a house in Maui. And someone one time asked me like why do you want that house in Maui? And I looked at her like she had five heads. Like what are you? Are you stupid? Like everybody wants to move to Maui, right? And she was like no, I don't understand it, because you have a business, you have this. How are you going to make it work? And in that moment I realized the reason I wanted to move to Maui was because I wanted to run away from my life. I had all of the work to get the accolades, to prove that I was worthy, and it was only when I no longer needed it that it became available to me. Right. And now I have my house in Maui.

21:54

I have the exact, the exact view that I had been holding. I had put a one year timeline on it. The one year came and went and I didn't achieve it and I was like whatever? And I felt like it was like really hard, like there's no way this is going to happen, and I'm like still holding the vision, still holding the energy.

22:13

But then I didn't need it because I realized like I can be happy, right, where I'm at, I can be happy anywhere I'm at, and it was in that that then I was able to find the opportunity. And then it's like oh, it was so freaking easy, right, and and it can be easy. But I think that as a society we're also conditioned not to allow ease, and I think that's something big that we have to get over, because we're looking for that approval outside of ourselves. So we have to show how hard we worked for everything that we have. And so part that goes back to the self-love piece Right, because we need to be able to, not need to prove ourselves, because then we just make the journey hard ourselves, because then we just make the journey hard.

23:06 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

So amazing and I I could not second what you're saying more. I mean, I really feel like when I finally started living from my inside out and I started appreciating all that I have accomplished but also appreciating how tired I was and also like that I can only do so much. But whatever I do do, make it meaningful, make it impactful.

23:23

Send me the work you want me to be working on, rather than me trying to do my own work and I think for a lot of us it's that shift is the most powerful shift you can make down here on planet earth. I believe, and I feel like it is amazing when you do make the shift, how much easier it is to flow through the things that are for you, and I think that's the most amazing thing, and so the power of alignment. I can attest to it. I know you're working with so many women across the world that are leaning on you and your framework to really help them ship the focus from the outside to the inside that then creates the external impact. So, just so honored, you joined me here. Rebecca, do you have anything that you're working on in 2025 you want to share?

24:11 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Manifestation Mastery Academy. So it's really the framework, all of the pieces, because there's release work that has to be done in this process. Right, it's one thing to know the steps that it takes to get there, but we've all been doing the work right and people go okay, I'm good, I've done the work, and it's like, yeah, but if you're not getting the results, we still have more to release. And there's always constantly, every time you hit the next, you, to level up, you have to do more release work. Right, it's a spiritual evolution, and so the Manifestation Mastery Academy is helps guide people through that spiritual evolution faster, easier, with more flow, more abundance, so that you can achieve what you want to achieve. And the key elements are mastering your energy by claiming your inner voice.

25:06 - JJ DiGeronimo (Host)

I love that. I love that. I want to make sure that links below. I know we have your social links and your website, but I want to make sure we have that links below, so we'll get that done. But thank you so much for joining us. I love people that can share their journey and how it has created an opportunity for others, and I feel like your work, your midlife journey and even the work you do today, is such a perfect example of leaning into the flow and aligning with a higher power. So thank you so much for joining us.

25:34 - Rebekah Hogan (Guest)

Thank you so much for having me. It was such a pleasure.
