Hand Analysis: What Your Hands Reveal About Your Purpose, Gifts & Shadow Work with Lisa Hedley
Hello. Hello. I'm so excited today to share Lisa Hedley and her work with hand analysis. It's one of the most overlooked and misunderstood tools, I think, in the personal transformation space because it's something that, you know, most modalities cannot offer. It's a physical, visible pattern. Your purpose, your shadow materials, what stands between you and your full, walking into your soul's work. So Lisa Hedley is with me today. She is a counselor, a transformational adviser, and she explores how the lines and marks on your hand could be doorways to your deeper work. So, Lisa, thank you so much for joining us. Hi, JJ. Thank you for having me. It's a pleasure to be here. So tell us tell us what is hand analysis? Well, basically, it's a system that affords us opportunities to see patterns. It's pattern recognition, really. it does have its origins in ancient palmistry, but we now know that there are decades of scientific research in neuroscience and psychology to back up all of our understanding of what the soul and personality psychology is. So we find the soul psychology in our fingerprints, which are fully formed in utero by fifteen weeks. So before we're born, we have already decided what our purpose, our life school, and our lessons will be. And then the rest of our hands will change over the course of our lifetime, and those will be in direct response to whether we are either aligned with our soul and our personality is a reflection a reflection of that or if our personality is acting contrarily to our soul's mission…
Wow. That's pretty powerful. You think so many people would be using this? Why do you think it's hard to find…I think there's a stigma around palmistry and hand analysis being exactly the same thing. And I frequently have people who will say to me, oh, you do hand analysis. And so they ask me, when am I gonna find love? I've had I had a couple people ask me when they were gonna lose weight. and I always have to say, I don't actually know palmistry. and I am not in the prophecy business. I'm in the pattern recognition business. And so I think people perceive it as woo. Right? There's this new age stigma around it, and so they don't take it seriously as a more scientific tool. Scientific tool. But I think that will change now it's it's being utilized in more medical forms now. there's been a lot of research. So I studied at the International Institute of Hand Analysis in Zurich, Switzerland, and they are now doing a lot of research in conjunction with,
medical science because we can now identify markers in the hands for things like disease. So I think the more we do this sort of scientific undertaking, the more hand analysis will start to have, a basis in scientific fact, and it will be more recognized as a as a valid tool. Thus far, all we know is that there are more connections between the hands and the brain than any other part of the body, and the sensory cortex is sending discernible signals all the time. So it is science…Yes. One of the things that I thought was so amazing when you read my hand, which I thought was so powerful. I sent you snapshots of my thumbs, my fingers, the beds of my fingers, the pads of them, and then my whole hand. I thought it was amazing that you said that your hand and the lines on your hand and the patterns can change. Yes. Yes. So it is in response to how we are actualizing the reality of our purpose, our gifts. All of those things will change. So…
not only do we find our purpose, our lessons, and our life school in our hands, we also find our gifts and we find our shadow side. So that is what you will see in some of those discernible lines. We will get star formations that can be things like a challenge marker or a gift marker, and stars are consolidation of energy. So it's it's showing you where it's getting either jammed up or it needs to be utilized. And this is it's a wonderful thing because it tells us, oh, you have gifts here you need to be using. Or it tells us you have gifts you're not using. And so anytime you see the shadow in the hands, it becomes an opportunity for growth. But those are the markers most particularly if you're doing the work. You're doing the inner work on yourself and integrating your shadow and utilizing your gifts, then those lines can absolutely change. and the constitution changes too. Color, texture, those sorts of things also change. Shape can change.
there's a particular marker in our pinky, for example, which is we associate with Mercury, the Roman god of communication. And that finger in particular, the upper flange on that finger, I noticed a lot of people have, a sort of it's gone a little wonky. Right? It's askew, and it demonstrates that the the bearer of that finger has been having trouble around communicating. So those sorts of things become discernible, and they can change. If you're fixing your how you're communicating, things can straighten out. Things can disappear. Yeah. Fascinating. I mean, who knew? I did iridology a long time ago, and that also was so in tune. I only know a handful of practitioners, a few throughout the world. I really don't know a hand analysis in the United States. So when you signed up to go to Germany and you looked around the room, were you the only person from the States? Well, I did do my coursework,
online. So, I actually when I originally found hand analysis, I I'd had my palm read a couple of times, you know, over the years just for fun. I never really took it very seriously. So when hand analysis came my way, I was a bit surprised, to be perfectly honest. I was listening to a podcast, and the guest was a master hand analyst who had studied in Zurich. He lives in Switzerland. And, he mentioned that you could see the shadow in the hands. And I thought, oh, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Here's a shadow tool that I don't know because I'm a shadow specialist. I help people integrate the shadow. That is my primary focus. But, I thought I need to have this tool. If this is a tool that will help me find the shadow, I believe that that's the fastest way to expedite our transformation process is to know exactly what our shadow is and to go in there and do that work. And so I am always looking for tools that will expedite the process. So when I found hand analysis and I was listening to this podcast, I thought, okay. I I wanna get a hand analysis reading. I wanna see what it if this is spot on. And it turned out it was miraculously accurate, and I…
always the skeptic thought, well, I'm gonna have it done again by someone else because I just wanna make sure that before I dive into learning this tool, it is what I think it is. And it and it was accurate. I had another another master analyst do my hands, and sure enough, I I then I was I was in completely. Like, I have to learn how to do this. And it does, in fact, expedite my work…I think that's amazing. But can you just describe for people listening? Because they often ask me, like, how do I know what whispers to lean into? So you're listening to the podcast. You hear them talking about hand analysis. How did you know like, can you remember back to what…really got you to not only just get curious, but to actually invest time and money in it? So…I had a lot of personal healing work to do myself, and I spend a lot of years in therapy. A lot. And often, you know, if you have done significant therapy, you know how expensive it is and how that process can feel very protracted. And more than anything, I kept thinking, I feel like I'm treading water most of the time. I know that we're making progress, but that progress felt very slow to me. And so I originally went in search of tools that would expedite my own healing process. Things like the Myers Briggs and the Enneagram sort of personality assessments that I thought would help me understand myself better. But the tools that I was finding were primarily archetypally predictive. So they were telling me things that I could you know, an archetypal energy that I could be potentially embodying, but I wasn't necessarily embodying. So there was potential there, but it didn't tell me that I was concretely doing anything. And then hand analysis, it's concretely predictive. It tells you. I can see the lines that tell me you have been doing this very thing or you haven't been doing this thing. And from there, I thought, okay. This is the first tool that I have found that is taking this to the next level where we are really seeing your concrete patterns, which means we can break those. Right? It doesn't it doesn't have to be a protracted process. You don't have to spend a year in sessions with me to move this energy. We can start on day one because I have the blueprint of your hands, and I know exactly where the work is needed…That is fascinating, and…I was curious how you integrated into your work because I scheduled the hand analysis with you, not necessarily you know, you're not my counselor, but you and I met. And I was like, I gotta try this because I oftentimes, many of the people that visit me here on this together, we seek podcasts. I've done sessions with them because I feel like it's so important to understand the work before we meet like this. Yes. For sure. Well, I wanted you to have this particularly because I feel like…
you you navigate a lot of different people working as light workers, working as transformation coaches, that sort of thing. And it felt like this is another tool that you should know about because I love I love reaching as many people as I can with this. I do one off hand analysis readings because some people don't wanna dig in and do the work with me, and I totally respect that. I'm I'm happy to give the hand analysis reading but then the idea with the hand analysis reading is that it is the entry point to my work. So have a hand analysis reading. I might call you anyways because I've been doing shadow work clearing for a decade now and so much to do, so little time in regards to that. I think certain applications of this tool were surprising to me, you know, that that there would be some scientific connection to the medical field, for example. That's that has surprised me. I'm a skeptic. I mean, let's be really honest. I I like a certain amount of, scientific backing in in my in my spirituality. I really came to my spirituality through modern physics and Jungian psychology. So, I've like a certain amount of scientific backing. And so I have been surprised at hand analysis and how it does relate to hard sciences…
And I like that there are things about this practice that we're still learning. that is something that I find very exciting. I have a personal mantra, which is something that Gandhi said, which is live as if you were to die tomorrow and learn as if you were to live forever. And so I like the idea that I am part of a practice that is still evolving. It's still growing in its scope and its application, and that is what I find…to be the most surprising aspect of this so far…I love that quote from Gandhi, and I just think it's so exciting to learn about people like you that are using tools that have been around for centuries, but are really providing a doorway into helping people move through their shadow work. So can you without any names, can you give examples of what you might see in the hand for shadow work for people something that I do see a lot, especially in women, and I have been thinking that it was time that maybe I addressed this in a written format. The differences that I consistently see across a man's hands versus a woman's hands, women have…very historically been the people pleasers, the nurturers, that sort of thing. And so I see a certain amount of consistency around, boundary issues. women who sacrifice themselves, it is very much servitude and self sacrifice as opposed to service. And, so I see a lot of depletion in certain parts of of women's hands most particularly around their Venus mount, which is the zone of of pleasure, sensual pleasures, you know, all things related to how we enjoy having a material form. And so I see a lot of that depletion in women most particularly. But when I see it, it's usually also related to a measure of things like boundary issues. And boundary issues are obviously a shadow aspect where, you know, let's say, for example, you are a service oriented person and you are a nurturer. You have a nurturer heart line, and so your natural,
innate tendencies to show up and take care of others, which is a very beautiful thing. But you lose yourself in the process. Right? So when we're looking at boundaries, it's a question of how do I how do we come back…to that line in the sand where you know you're about to overextend yourself and it's gonna leave you physically and emotionally depleted as opposed to where is that line in the sand where you just say, no. You know? This is no. This is no for me. I'm not crossing this one. So a lot of women really do have to reclaim boundaries…
I love that you partner the hand analysis with the counseling because how many times have you gotten information about yourself and you're like, yes. That's me. But you don't carve out the time, you don't know who to work with, and you don't know how to work through it. Yes. Yes. I see a lot of hands that there are things in the hands that raise alarms for me where I will say, look. I I see these things happening for you, and I'm concerned that there's a pattern here that we could actually break that would, you know, completely shift your life in beautiful ways. The other thing is I see I see people that have gifts, and every gift comes with a penalty. Right? You signed on before you came for this incarnation to do certain kinds of work, to offer certain kinds of service. Right. And if you're not using those gifts that, you know, if you believe in a higher power, you believe…however you've made an agreement to use those gifts, you made an agreement to use those gifts. And if you're not using them, they penalize. And some of those penalties are harsh. I have certain gifts in my hands that will penalize with things like depression and despair. So you wanna be using those gifts. And if I see that someone is not using those gifts, then it becomes a process of how do I encourage you to step into the truth of this and take ownership of it. Right? It sometimes it does require courage. But once you're over that initial that initial fear and you step into your courage, courage, I like to tell my son, is a muscle that gets stronger with use. Right? The more we use it, the stronger it gets. But once you get over that courage hurdle comes the confidence. And then utilizing that gift becomes something that lights you up. It makes you feel strong. All of the delights of of sensual pleasures. Right? Music and food and and all of those sorts of things. So you have been a very busy woman, a busy mama. So yes. Well, I am planning that. As we both talked about, our kids are transitioning to new parts of their life, and I am ready. I think I even just said it to somebody on the phone. Like, I am done with this domestic stuff for a little bit. It's a relief, isn't it? Oh, I get so much energy. Sag moon. I get so much energy from experiences, and so I'm already looking like, where can I can I fill that moon up? So I'm excited. Well, this has been so nice to have you on. I finally have the spaciousness to get on with writing some books, and there are a couple on the agenda. So we'll see how that goes, but,
I'm sort of focusing on the one that has the most urgent calling at the moment, which is really to address certain things around patriarchy, masculine, feminine, and relationships. So we will see.
