Getting a Shot - 5 Minute Meditation for Kids: This mindfulness and breathing exercise helps calm children down before visiting the doctor's office.

Getting a shot can cause fear and anxiety in many children. The goal of the breathing exercises in this meditation is to help calm children prior to and during their doctor's appointment.

Mindfulness is an important theme in 'The Paper Girls Show'. Together with "Making" and "Mistakes", they create the "3 M's of The Paper Girls Show", which serve as the series' pillars.
"Make things Mindfully – don't sweat your Mistakes", as our mantra goes!

The goal of this series is to help guide children through mindful breathing techniques, visualizations, and positive affirmations to self-soothe and use throughout the day when needed.

Our practices contain:

Speaker 1:

Hello. I am Tara sicky. Getting a shot can be very scary and intimidating, but it is important for us to get our shots so that we can continue playing with our friends, being with our family and staying healthy. Let's do some breathing exercises to calm us and take our attention away from the shot or whatever else we need to do that makes us nervous and focus aware on our breathing. Instead, go ahead, get comfortable. And when you're ready, you can close your eyes or just rest your gaze on the floor. Let us take us long, slow, deep breath in through our nose and exhale out our mouth. Again. Another long, slow, deep breath in through the nose pretending you're smelling the most delicious cookies baking in an oven and exhale out your mouth as if you were blowing out birthday candles. Again, another long, slow, deep breath in through your nose. Smelling that delicious cookie and exhale out your mouth. As if you were blowing out the breath candle. This time, take a long, slow, deep breath in through your nose and bring that breath down to your belly, watching your breath as it enters your belly. And as it comes up and goes out your mouth again, another long, slow, deep breath in through your nose, bringing your breath into your lungs, holding it in your lungs, and then exhale out your mouth. Again. Another, a long, slow, deep breath in through your nose. Bringing that breath to your heart, surrounding your hearts with that breath and exhale out your mouth. Just begin to notice how your body breathes for you each and every day. Without you even having to ask for that breath, how does your body breathe for you in and outta your nose in and out of your mouth or a combination of the two? Just watch your breath for a few moments And let us bring the positive affirmation to mind. I am brave. I am brave. And with each inhale and exhale, repeat silently in your mind. I am brave. I am brave. I am brave. I am brave. And let us take a long, slow, deep breath in together through our nose, smelling that delicious cookie and exhale out our mouth, blowing out the birthday can Start to notice the sounds in the room. Start to wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes. And when you're ready, open your eyes. You are very brave. Say this throughout the day to yourself. When you need a reminder.
