Prof. Selim Karahasanoğlu is professor of history and currently the dean of the Faulty of Letters at the Istanbul Medeniyet Unviersity. Having studied in Turkish and American Universities, specialising in Ottoman history, Prof. Karahasanoğlu talks about the impact of his own family roots on his passion for history. The conversation revolves around the questions of motivation and interest in history, but also the way that academic society functions in Turkey in comparison with the United States and Germany.
