What if the most powerful lever in your life isn’t time, money, or willpower, but the lens you’re using right now? We go straight to the source by separating the noisy narrator in our heads from the quiet witness beneath it, then show how perception—not circumstances—creates the texture of our days. From the rain-on-the-roof example to moments of dignity in confinement, we map the real mechanics of inner freedom and why no one can choose your experience for you.

Together, we challenge the victim mindset, question inherited scripts around aging and success, and examine how advertising and social media profit from a story of lack. You’ll learn a practical way to reclaim your attention: select a single quality—peace, abundance, or joy—and build a daily case for it like an attorney, tracking evidence until the new lens becomes obvious. We bring in a favorite Ram Dass move—turn people into trees—to interrupt reflexive judgment and make compassion your default. Along the way, we talk about curating your circle, because perception is contagious, and it’s easier to hold a higher frame when you’re surrounded by builders, not doomscrollers.

This conversation is warm, candid, and useful. Expect clear steps, not platitudes: pause the noise, name the story you inherited, choose your lens, and practice it through the mundane moments where life actually happens. If you’re ready to stop outsourcing your state to headlines, algorithms, or old family narratives, press play and pick the world you want to see today.

If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs a new lens, and leave a quick review—what quality are you choosing this week?

SPEAKER_00:

Hello and welcome back to Living the Way of Mastery. I'm Jason Amaroso, your guide and friend and fellow student. And today we continue the beginning of lesson 17, The Journey of the Soul. And we pick up in paragraph three, where Jeshua continues, You are consciousness. You are awareness. You are that which witnesses, that which experiences, that which pays homage to the one thing that God has created. Christ, which means the anointed. You have been anointed since before the beginning of all worlds with that which the Father is. Awareness, pure intelligence. You have been anointed with the ability to choose what you would wish to perceive, and thereby imbued with the power to create, you abide freely in each moment. I mean, this paragraph says everything. I've been listening to the audiobook of The Untethered Soul. Again, it's not my first time with Michael Singer, such a great book. And this is in the beginning, this is what he's talking about. Like you're not the voice in your head that constantly narrates and evaluates and judges and has an opinion and is just narrating your experience. That's not what you are, that's not who you are. But we get caught up in that. It's not to silence thought, it's for you to practice the being the observer. If you're having thought, who's the one hearing or witnessing the thought? That's who and what you are. You are pure. This is what Jeshua said, God is pure, intelligent awareness that creates. That's the nature of God. And he says that you are that which witnesses, that which experiences, that which pays homage to the one thing that God has created. The one thing, Christ, which means the anointed. And anointed means chosen by divine election. So he's saying God has created one thing, Christ. You are that, made in the image and likeness of the creator. What is that? It's intelligence, it's the power to create, it is awareness itself and the power to choose. This is important. And he says, You've been anointed since before the beginning of all worlds, right? We are eternal beings, but in linear time, that doesn't seem like the brain doesn't even comprehend that. What do you mean? I've been anointed since before all worlds. What does that even mean? You don't even remember or comprehend that you've existed for all time. The father is awareness. Oh, that's my meditation timer. The father is awareness, pure intelligence, and you have been anointed with the ability to choose what you would wish to perceive. What you perceive creates your experience. And you get to choose your perception. You get to choose your positionality. You get to choose the meaning that anything has in life, in life, not just your life, in life. It's like I shared an episode ago that life is literally a blank canvas. It is just a quantum field of infinite potentiality. And things are just existing and happening, but your experience of something in your life is 100% a result of the perception that on some level you are choosing to value and invest in. So look at your life. Look at the experience that you have with, I don't know, when you look at the state of the world, the news, when you watch the news or look at current events, what perception are you taking? And that creates your experience. So the other way to look at it is like, what's your experience when you look at the world? Oh, the world's falling apart. Oh, the world is depressing. Oh, the, you know, all these things, these bad things are happening. Oh, we're in a really tight spot. That's a that's based on the perception that you are holding about the world. Oh, people are, you know, there's so many greedy, uncaring, evil, selfish people. These are all labels. These are all perceptions that you are experiencing. They're just beings doing things and things are happening. But it's our perception of something, right? One event can happen. Let's just say it's raining, and one person can be like, see, the weather always stinks. This is awful weather. I hate this. And some person could say, Oh, I love the rain. I love the cleansing. I love the sound of it. Same thing happening, different experiences because of different perspectives, perceptions, which is you are chosen. You are choosing it. That's the responsibility piece most people don't like, don't want to take on. Because if it means I'm choosing a perception of being a victim in one area of my life, I'm probably choosing the perception of being a victim in other areas of my life. And that's hard to admit. We don't want to take responsibility for ourselves, for our inner state, for how we're choosing to see the world. We want to give it away to the masses or give it away to someone else. He says, and thereby imbued with the power to create. This is how you create through perception. That's that's your creative power. He continues. This freed. Oh, so real quick. So the question then you can ask yourself is then what do I want to perceive? If I want to experience a peaceful world, then choose to perceive peace everywhere. Choose to perceive peace unfolding, even in the midst of what everyone else calls, and a part of your brain calls war and death and destruction and awfulness. It's just a part of your brain that's having that perception. But you get to choose a different experience, a different perception. And you'd be like, well, that's just living in unrealism. You know, that's living in pie in the sky thinking, that's living in delusion. Only to one perception. To all the quote unquote realist people out there, that is delusion. But that's because they're in the perception of what they are calling realism. Realistic, you you know, sanity. But as Jeshua said, to the insane, sanity is insane. So we really are creative. You choose your experience by what you want to perceive. You want to choose to see an abundant world, you will start to look for evidence of abundance everywhere. A joyful world, you will start to experience joy everywhere. A harmonious world, a loving world. You will create it in your own perception. All right, he continues. This freedom is completely unobstructed and unchangeable forever. It is in your freedom that you think what you think, you see what you see, you feel what you feel, even in your third-dimensional reality. At any moment, you are perfectly free to see the radiant beauty of the real world pervading all things, even your own consciousness, just as you are also free to see fear. This is everything. This is our freedom. This is everything that we're wanting. When we go searching for spiritual spirituality, we're wanting to feel something. We're wanting to know who you are. This is it. This freedom to choose your perception and thereby create your experience. You are a powerful creator. This freedom is completely unobstructed and unchangeable forever. No one can hinder your choice. I go back to um uh oh my gosh, what is his name? Um, Nelson Mandela in prison. He got to choose his inner experience while he was imprisoned. Is he going to be a victim or is he going to be empowered? Jesus, while he was allowing the crucifixion, all the justification to be a victim, chose to create a different experience for himself. And so it is with your life. Nothing, no one, no government, no president, no economy, no bank account, no uh any person in your life gets to choose for you. Now we can give that power away. That's what you get, a choice to give it away, to pretend to choose and pretend that we're the victim and that someone else has power over us. Maybe they have uh power over your physical body, right? Like maybe let's say you're in a prison where you literally can't leave a you know 12 by 8 cell block. But you get to choose your experience internally in your perception and create your experience. You could have heaven on earth in a cell block. Now, the victim part of us will argue this till the cows come home, wants to be the victim, and victims misery likes company. And you can see that in the world. People will argue for their victimhood and the victimhood of others till the cows come home. And it's yeah. So the freedom to choose your experience to create what you wish to perceive is completely unobstructed, unchangeable forever. Even in this third-dimensional reality, right? We know this. We're talking about and trying to give you different examples. But really, go beyond the go from the idea and the theory that we're talking about, apply it to your own life. I wish I could, I wish I had more like real people that I could have a conversation with. And that's what we do in in our way mastery study groups, is like, hey, where is this showing up in your life? Apply this to your life, in your relationships. Where are you feeling like you're at the mercy of something or someone? Aging. How about that? That's one. That's one I've been dealing with. I'm only 46, but like there's this narrative operating in my consciousness, which I think, you know, is kind of a mass consciousness. I definitely think I got it from my dad. Oh, when you turn 40, your eyesight goes, or when you turn 40, your body starts to go. That's not just my dad. That's like a lot of the world and health and how they see the body. And so a part of me, like, believe that narrative, believe that perspective. And it's created my experience of resisting the aging process. Like I'm at the mercy, I'm at the victim of my, of my body. It's not as strong and as quick and as you know, quick to recover as it used to be. And so I experience that feeling like a victim to my body, feeling fearful of what might happen that I don't want to happen. And that's my curriculum to work through, to see that at play, to see that I'm creating that experience through the perspectives that I'm holding. So that's my application. We all have our own application. What is yours? You know, A Course of Miracles is another way of saying this. You're never upset for the reason you think. It's never on the surface, it's always underneath. It's your deeper belief systems or the thoughts that you invest in that you think are true. Well, that is true. Look at that, it's true. And then you experience that. And most likely that came from your parents. It came from your childhood. And maybe it's like a rebellion against something that your parents did that you didn't like that was painful or hurtful. So, look, my mother, let's say, was, or my father was so irresponsible with money. They got money and they just wasted it away. They didn't, they didn't have any kind of um uh stewardship over it. They weren't responsible, they just wasted money. So I'm never gonna be like that. And then we structure our whole life around basically rebelling against something that our parents did or their own belief system. So once we start to unpack it, we can just start to see all these different um motivations, coping mechanisms, and belief systems that are operating again in our subconscious. We're not aware of it when it's happening. But this is a teaching about becoming aware of all of these things so we can make a different choice. But that's the powerful word. It's a choice. We didn't realize it was a choice, or we've forgotten it was a choice, but it's a choice. And he says, at any moment, you are perfectly free to see the radiant beauty of the real world pervading all things, even your own consciousness. Nothing is in the way of you seeing heaven on earth. And there are people who see heaven on earth and they are so inspirational, especially in today's times. But social media, the news, kind of prevailing mass consciousness wants to keep you distracted, wants to keep advertising. Are you kidding me? Advertising and selling wants to keep you, you you lack something. So get the next beauty product, get the next exercise machine, buy the next pill, do the whatever you need to do to feel better about yourself. Get the car, get the house, you know, whatever a product or service is trying to sell you because a part of you feels like you're lacking in that area of your life. Maybe even as a person, you lack as a person. So it's, I lack something, so I need to spend money or buy something to get something to make me feel better. They could watch any commercial and you notice how the advertisement is really speaking to uh a need you think you have, a lack you think you have, a problem you think you have. And when you think you have problems, all you're looking for are solutions. And the world will always have problems. Because the ego just will see what's missing and what's lacking. Because the ego doesn't see wholeness, it doesn't know wholeness, it can't know wholeness. But you are not the ego. So the you can when just get out into nature, like get off screens and experience the world as it is, and you can experience heaven on earth. And not even just in nature, being around people too. It's a little more challenging. I love that Ram Das quote where he's like, uh, trees. When I look at trees, I don't judge them. I don't say, oh, well, this tree is, you know, too small, or this one's, you know, hogging up all the light from the other trees, or this one's all bendy and weird and weird shaped. He says, I don't, when I look at trees, I don't judge them like that. But when we look at people, we do that. All we do is judge. So I turn people into trees and I accept them as they are. That's such a beautiful quote from Ram Das. We all, I need to do that more. Turn people into trees. And Jeshua says, just as you are also free to see fear, you are free to see fear, you are free to see hope, you are free to see uh lack, you are free to see abundance. So being a conscious creator of your life is asking yourself, what do I want to experience? And then being so committed to perceiving that in the world, to seeking out evidence for that in the world, to where you've made an undeniable case for that, right? Like, I'm an attorney by trade. I went to law school, became an attorney. I'm a licensed attorney in California, although I haven't been active in the bar for, I don't know, 20 years. But like build a case for yourself. Look for the evidence that you are enough. Look for the evidence that there's miracles and magic and joy everywhere. Look for the evidence of peace within yourself, within others. And you will experience that. Seek and you will find in a way, even though Jesus also says in the Course Miracles, seek and do not find, because then you're always a seeker. But those are kind of two different things. Because you're not seeking for something you think is lacking in you. That's the seek and do not find. This is like what you look for, you will find, you will see. There's so many quotes from so many people about that in your life. So you get to choose. And uh, I do believe that um until we're solid in that, we are more uh permeable to being around other people. We're more influenced by other people. So if you spend time with a lot of negative people who only see the world one way, most likely you're probably gonna start to be negative. You're probably gonna start to see the world a little bit more in the same way that those people do, just because you're around it all the time. That's why who you choose to spend time with is so important, in my opinion. I want to choose to be around people who are optimistic, who are dreamers and want to bring things that don't exist into existence despite fear, despite what other people say is impossible. I wanna, I wanna be around people who see the best in people, who are kind and compassionate and courageous and also strong and also um, you know, courageous and fierce. People who are willing to look at their shadow, do the work, be honest with themselves, and show up and live a full life. So I try to surround myself with people. Luckily, I'm married to somebody like that and I get to spend my whole life with them. Um but yeah. So these first two, these paragraphs three and four in this first section of Lesson 17, The Journey of the Soul. It's so good. There's so much here. As always, apply this to your own life. Ask yourself these questions. I say it over and over again to give different examples. Pause the pause the podcast at any point. In this podcast, future podcast episodes, pause it and ask yourself these questions. Don't just listen through and then go on to the next one and listen through. Oh, that's a nice idea. Apply it in your life. And if you're not sure how, then find a group. If you want coaching in your life to move through something really difficult, because when things are really difficult and we're in it, it's hard for us to see with some objectivity. It's hard for us to ask these questions because we're so in it. It's so much of our karma. Like, ah, my, my, you know, I don't know, I'm just gonna make up an example. Like my mother in law, she triggers me so much, she's so XYZ, and I just I'm so pissed at her. There's so much conflict. Like it's hard for us to get some distance from it because we're so in it to and to even ask these questions. And it takes courage to be honest, as Jesus says, self honesty is the greatest act of self love. So if you're really in it and you You want support. You want guidance. You want someone to ask you these questions to help you see things that maybe you can't see. I mean, that's that's what I do with people in their life, in their relationships, in creating maybe the business that they want to create or making a transition of careers to something more heartfelt and meaningful, or whatever it is that they want support on as a one-on-one coach and support and guide. And then we have also have groups of the way of mastery where we're in it with other people and having these conversations. Uh, it's always better to be within a community uh than feel like you're doing it on your own. But the whole point is pause the recording and apply this stuff in your life. Then you see the transformation. Theory, practice. Practice can be messy, but it's just showing up and practice, practice, practice. And then you develop mastery if you just stay with it over time. All right, sending you lots of love right where you are. I'm encouraging you right now, if you are listening to this, wherever you are, you might be in the car, you might be in uh washing the dishes, you might be working out. Right now, make a commitment to yourself that today I'm going, I'm choosing to see and experience and perceive this in the world. And pick a quality. Pick a quality. Choose what you want and have that experience. All right. Sending you lots of love. Have a great day, and uh, we'll see you next time.
