Current potential Winter Storm weather conditions and safety.
Please stay tuned to your local weather resource for updates in your area.
Blessings, friends and family. Here is your Wii Family Radio National Weather Update. Good morning, Michelle. It's Thursday, January 22nd, 2026. And the big story we're tracking today is a major potentially historic winter storm that's beginning to take shape.
MichelleGood morning, Keith. Historic is a word we don't use lightly, but it certainly applies here. This storm is forecast to impact over 175 million people across more than 35 states. It all starts tomorrow in the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley, but the ingredients are coming together today.
KeithThat's exactly right. The primary ingredient is a powerful Arctic blast hitting the northern plains today with dangerously cold wind chills and temperatures. This isn't just a cold front, it's the foundation for the storm, and this frigid air will be spreading south and east, setting the stage for what's to come.
MichelleMeanwhile, the Northeast is getting a preview of winter weather today with scattered snow showers and some potentially intense, fast-moving snow squalls. And as is often the case, the Great Lakes region continues to see persistent lake effect snow downwind of the lakes. It's a very active Thursday, and it's all building up to the main event. With such widespread and severe weather, it's a good time to talk about some important winter safety precautions. It's not just about the forecast, it's about being prepared.
KeithAbsolutely. Community is so important at times like these. Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly or those who live alone. A simple phone call can make a world of difference. And let's not forget our furry family members. Bring pets indoors. If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them. Please stay safe and informed about your local conditions. And with that said, let's keep one another lifted up in prayer.
MichelleYou got that right, Keith. Amen. Friends and family, with these severe winter weather conditions, like Keith said, it is especially important to remember to always pray for and check on the elderly and bring pets inside. And to add to that, those who have experienced any loss and the homeless. Please stay off the roads if at all possible. Moreover, if you must be on the roads, listen to your local authorities. AAA offers the following driving tips. Avoid using cruise control in wintery conditions. Steer in the direction of a skid so when your wheels regain traction, you don't have to overcorrect to stay in your lane. Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Increase following distance to 8 to 10 seconds. If possible, don't stop when going uphill. If visibility is severely limited due to a whiteout, pull off the road to a safe place and do not drive until conditions improve. And avoid pulling off onto the shoulder unless it's an absolute emergency. Limited visibility means other vehicles can't see yours on the shoulder. And if you happen to see black ice, don't attempt to drive on it at all.
KeithYes, indeed. That is very, very important safety info. Thank you, Michelle. That is your national weather update brought to you by We Family Radio. Again, let's continue to keep one another lifted up in prayer. We love you, God bless you, and have a beautiful and blessed day in the Lord. Stay safe out there.
