Julie Harmon, Ph.D., is the founding Board Chair for the Association of ESD Professionals and a member of the Executive, Membership, and Ethics & Conduct Committees.

For the past 30 years, Julie has dedicated her professional life to preventing and protecting people from violence. As a director for IMPACT, she has programmed coursework, developed organizational and agency safety policy, and created and implemented skills-based personal safety curricula. 

Julie applies her extensive background in psychology, chemical dependency, counseling, and training to her empowerment self-defense work and the complexity of issues intersecting personal violence and personal safety. She has consulted with the National Institute of Corrections and has worked in public and private mental health systems. She is an expert at designing, adapting, and developing curricula to meet the interpersonal needs of a wide range of groups, from children to adults to people with special behavioral and cognitive needs to those recovering from trauma. Julie is the former Treasurer of IMPACT International and has been training staff and communities across the United States, in Mexico, and in Israel since 1993. For 11 years, she co-owned a martial arts school for women and children. 

When not teaching or talking, Julie enjoys digging in the dirt, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, and sharing time with friends, family, and sunshine.
