And I believe now more than ever, we need to be empowering and supporting our girls of the future to have bold voices and big hearts. So let's dive into it. Today. We are talking about going back to school, we are in Australia, as you can probably tell from my accent and in Australia, we've just finished. We're coming to the end of our big summer holiday. And so six or seven weeks of being off school. And we're about to start a new school year. Stories, how are we all feeling about that? Lots of stories that I've spoken to her having very mixed emotions, some are feeling excited to go back. Some are feeling a bit nervous to go back. And so I wanted to. Give you an episode that you can listen to. And that can help you. We start in the new year because it's a big time for change. A lot of us don't like change in new times. And so I thought I'd give you some tips. So this episode, we're going to do five tips for starting back to school for the new year. And I would love to know if this helps you have to send me a message on the podcast hotline. There's a link in the show notes, or you can send us an email. Or leave us a comment if you're listening on Spotify. Hello. So. Five tips for going back to school. Tip number one. The first one. Is, this is a real mindset one. So this is really thinking about how you're approaching it, how you're thinking about it, how you're talking to yourself in your mind about going back to school. First one is just thinking one day at a time. Try not to look too far forward. Try not to be worried about what's coming up. In two weeks time or a months time or in term two. Just think about one day at a time. Another really big thing that we talk about in our house is that even though it feels like you're at school a lot, It is just around six hours of your day. So, if you think about that your day, goes for 24 hours a whole day goes for 24 hours. And you're at school for about six of those hours. Maybe a bit more if you do before or after school care, or if you've got to travel to school. But it's about a quarter of, or a third of your day. Something that can really help with this is if you do. A picture of this. So you can draw a circle and draw a pie chart. If you don't know what a pie chart is, Google it or ask an adult to help you. I'm sure that there'll be more than happy to do this with you. And you can literally break that pie chart up into fractions to show you how much of your day you're at school, how much maybe you're sleeping. Um, and then you can even put little details in, like, if you've got something that you like to do after school, maybe it's an organized activity like soccer or a sport or dance. You might have, um, somewhere you like to go, it might be a walk that you go on. Or some nature time or something like that. You can put in your meal times what you do before school. So it can show you that school is not everything. If you are having a hard time settling into school, I want you to remember that it's not your everything. And I also want you to remember that how you're going at school, how you're feeling at school that does not define who you are. If you're having a hard time at school, or if you're struggling to make friends that does not mean. That it'll be like that everywhere you go. You're still an amazing person, no matter where you go. Just because you're having a hard time at school doesn't mean that you're going to have that everywhere. So I want you to remember that school. Does not define your whole life. Okay. You've got a beautiful world outside of school. And that's something to keep in mind. tip number two. number two. Is looking at. Glimmers. Glimmers. A little pieces of gold that sprinkle throughout the day to make us feel happy and their tiny little positive parts. Okay. Some people might look at this, like thinking about gratitude or,, just positive parts of their day that they can really focus on. And so I want you to look out for those. Think about the tiny little parts of your day that made the day. Okay. And focus on those. And then what happens is because you're looking for your glimmers, you'll notice more and more and more as the days. Go on. You'll start to just have your glimmer glasses on. And you'll notice them so much more and then that will bring more positivity to your day. Okay. So that's my number two tip. Look for the glimmers. Tip number three. number three tip. Is all around. Slate. This is such a big topic, but I want you to hear me out with this. When we sleep. Our brains restore themselves overnight. Our bodies rejuvenate themselves overnight. And we have the energy to deal with another day to take on another day and to show up. If you're not getting enough sleep, it's harder for you to deal with bigger motions, which you might be having about starting school or settling back into school. It's harder for you to concentrate. And so learning is really difficult. It's harder for you to have resilience. That's bouncing back. If something doesn't go your way. All the things they sings are so much harder. If you don't have enough sleep, your brain literally cannot support you if it is tired. And so. It might be thinking about having a better, um, Pre sleep routine. So it might be. Um, like stopping screens earlier in the night. Um, having a break from screens before you go to bed, you might like to read before bed with a low light on, you might want to listen to a meditation or a STARI story. If you go back, there's a couple of starry stories in the podcast library, and I'm going to release some more for you. Very soon. Um, you might want to put lavender on your pillow to help you get into a sleepy. Zone. Some people like to have a bath before bed. Some people like to go for a little calm walk before bed, if that's possible for you. And so you might like to start really thinking about. Creating a bit of a routine to get ready for nighttime and to help you sleep. Because this is a big one. If he, uh, someone who worries a little bit. Especially before bed. If you've got you lie down to go to sleep, and then you've got all these thoughts and feelings and your mind is going a million miles an hour, and your thinking, thinking, thinking, and worrying. Then. A great idea can be to put a notebook and a pen next to your bed. And then you can write those things down. So that way they're out of your head, they're not taking up space. They're not worrying you while you're trying to get to sleep. And then in the morning, when you've got time, you can look back at those things, see how you feel about it after a good sleep. And you can even take that to a parent or a grownup and say, this is what I was worrying about last night. I really need to talk about it. So that can be a really good thing too. Tip number four. okay. My fourth tip. Is. Focus on something that you love outside of school, if you're having a hard time settling into school or that you've, even if you're just finding school a bit. Overwhelming. Or that it's taking up a lot of space in your mind and you're finding it quite consuming. Then. Start up, um, and a hobby outside of school. It might be something that you just do in your room after school. You might start some craft, you might do a puzzle. You might. Do. Ah, what else is a million things you could do? You might do something outside. You might talk to mum and dad or a special grownup, and you might decide that you want to actually start an organized hoppy, like sport. Or a musical instrument or something. Find something that you love. Outside of school. And make sure that you have some time to do that. Whether it's after school or before school or on the weekends, because that will bring you joy and help you remember that. There's life outside of school. Okay. And we want to be bringing as much joy to Al. Days as possible. So do what you can to bring a little bit of hobby time, something that you really love. Into your days. Tip number five. and finally my big one, if you are having big feelings about going back to school. Then don't bottle it up. Find a way that you can let those feelings out. So, whether it might be talking to someone, a parent. You might have a grandparent or an auntie and uncle, you might have an older brother or sister that you can talk to about it. Or if you don't feel like you want to talk about it or. Um, if it's hard to get time with your special people, then you could write it down. That's a great way to get it out. Grab a notebook or even scraps of paper and just start writing out your feelings. You don't even have to show it to anyone. If you don't want to, you can write them all out, get it out of your system, and then you can Chuck it in the recycling bin. If you really want. But it's a great way to get your feelings out so that you don't feel like you're holding onto them all in your chest, because that's an awful feeling. And it's just icky energy that sends stuck inside G. Learn away to get those feelings out and get that energy out. And help move it through your body so that you can let it go and start a new day fresh. I hope that this has been helpful. If you've got any more questions, make sure you leave me a comment. Or you can email the pod. Thank you so much for listening. Also, if you're going back to school and you have an amazing celebration to share, I would love to hear it, please. Texts. The podcast hotline. I'm going to be very honest here. I haven't had one text to the podcast hotline yet, and I'm dying to get one. So please send through a celebration that you'd like me to read out and I could share. Or if you've got a topic that you'd love me to cover. Send it through. Send this episode to a starry friend who, you know, maybe is starting back at school and maybe has mixed feelings. Um, and make sure you subscribe, leave a review so that I can keep making this podcast. And I know that you're out there listening. Thanks again. See you in the galaxies.
