SHOW NOTES EPISODE 9

LEAKY GUT—THE SEQUEL (PART 2)

Host: Dr. Angela Mazza, DO

Co-host: Dawn Sheffield

I’m Dr. Angela Mazza, D.O., a thyroid, endocrine, and metabolism specialist with a private practice in Central Florida.  My goal for this podcast is to define and demystify the thyroid gland, and thyroid-related medical conditions.  By providing information in an easy-to-understand format, we hope to help patients better understand the ways in which their bodies work, and to help them thrive.  My goal is to help us live more fulfilling lives by taking control of our health, to feel our best.

I wanted to do this podcast to provide life-saving education and encourage patients to see a doctor in time to prevent or minimize damage.  That’s deeply fulfilling.  I enjoy helping folks understand how all aspects of their lives are tied to both thyroid and overall health.

In fact, this is why I went into endocrinology.  It’s a medical art that combines science with the study of our lives—and all that they encompass.

A special note about episode nine: I encourage anyone who has not yet heard episode eight to consider listening to that show first.  It introduces the topic and lays the groundwork for what we discussed in episode nine—which may make more sense if you’ve heard episode eight first.  You don’t always have to listen to our episodes in order, but this time, it might be helpful to do so.

To recap just some of what we discussed in episode 9—not necessarily in this order:

·       How digestion SHOULD work;

  • The astonishing small intestine and its BIG role in digestion;
  • What are villi and what do they do?;
  • Why a healthy gut is so very important to overall health;
  • What is “leaky gut,” and testing for it;
  • What is the microbiome?;
  • Why hand washing and hygienic food prep are so important;
  • Antibiotic use;
  • Attitudes about the digestive process, and
  • Possible supplements to consider in healing the gut.
  • Best of all, we learned that we CAN impact our thyroid health!

I hope this discussion was helpful, and that you will continue listening to this podcast.  We’ll build on today’s foundation and cover some topics I think you’ll find meaningful.  We have many more interesting episodes planned.

If you are interested in the supplements we discussed, please check out our Wellness Store at https://www.metaboliccenterforwellness.com/.

If you want to know more about the labs we discussed for leaky gut, please visit Vibrant Wellness at https://www.vibrant-wellness.com/.

Our next episode, episode 10, will cover stress and its effect on the thyroid.

We welcome your comments, show ideas, and questions for future episodes.  Please send them to thyroidtalk.mazza@gmail.com  (That’s an email address—not a message board.)  We may disclose your general location on air (the city or town, for example), but we will NOT read your name NOR your address on the show.  We reserve the right to edit your input as necessary.
