Speaker 1:

You can think of it as preparing yourself to not miss your potential, because you're protecting you from energy leaks and from stagnant energy and you're creating a situation where your window of excitement grows and that helps condition your brain away from the resistance. Hello, my loves, and welcome to the Purposeful Lifestyle Development Podcast, where we discuss all things thought, work and manifestation but we use neuroscience and the study of the brain to do so. I'm your host, tessa Spizak. I'm a board certified practitioner, master life and health coach and seasoned executive speaker. If you're ready to create your highest value lifestyle and turn your dream life into a reality, you're in the right place. Let's get right into today's episode. Hello, hello, my loves, and welcome into the Purposeful Lifestyle Development Podcast. I hope you are feeling amazing today, however, and wherever you are listening in from Today, i personally am feeling so ignited.

Speaker 1:

I've said this before when the days fell this way, but something about my brain is I love when the first of the month falls on a Monday. Something about it is super motivating for me. It's like a fresh start, fresh everything. I don't know. I just feel like I'm really driven to have a really productive day, and this morning today is Sunday that I'm recording. I got up really early and I got so much done Just one thing after the other, super, super fast, and it really feels like I got more done already than I usually get done in a whole day. And I was feeling super motivated to start the month with a very nothing to do list. What many big projects on my to do list? or at least nothing that was weighing me down mentally or energetically. And I think the reason that I got this big burst of motivation is because I was reminded by a gal I was coaching with and working with of the concept of the mental drain that we can put ourselves under when we let our energy be leached by all the things that we are putting on the back burner, and this is something I know I need to remind myself of too. So, especially for any of my perfectionists listening in, maybe, executive functioning struggling friends, adhd entrepreneurs, that group this is something that we all need to keep in front of mind as well. So I really want to explore that today And this is the theme of my month moving forward, and I'm sure that if you make it the theme of yours too, over the next 30 days, you will find yourself completely reignited and feeling the feeling of alignment And in true transparency.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, this is something that I do have to remind myself of from time to time when it starts to slip. It can sometimes take me getting to a struggle, burnout kind of brain thoughts that I don't know what to do, era before I realize this once again. So to avoid that, here is a reminder again for our community here and for me, and this reminder is if you want momentum, you have to get going. A mantra that I remind you of regularly is that action begets momentum. So if you are searching for flow and for ease and creativity and inspiration, you have to get moving. You have to be moving towards something that you want or are passionate about creating.

Speaker 1:

There's a theory that I totally believe that humans are happiest when they're moving towards a goal. The truth is is that happiness comes more from moving towards what you want, even in the happiness that you get from receiving it or achieving it in so many situations, because it allows your psyche to have something to anticipate. It creates more serotonin in the brain which allows you to feel more joy about it. It's really cool to think about, actually, and I pulled a quote for you here. That says the consensus based on the psychology of action and personal goals clearly indicates that the successful pursuit of meaningful goals plays an important role in the development and maintenance of our psychological well-being, to the extent that when we're making progress towards our goals, we're happier emotionally and more satisfied with our lives.

Speaker 1:

And I want you to pair this information with another thought. When we're not moving in the direction of the things that we want, we're not doing what we know we should be doing to move towards our purpose, it starts to create stagnant energy within you. It starts to really zap your motivation and drive to even do those things. So herein lies the beginning of a vicious cycle. We talk about the cycles a lot how to break a chain in that link, and this is definitely one, because it can create a situation where our stagnant energy starts to actually take over and begins to really hold you back even more from the things that you want. I want you to think about it this way If you've been here a while or you've been coaching with me, then you know something that I'm big about is never breaking promises to yourself. That's definitely my most tough, loviest thing that I will get onto you for is if you promise yourself you'll do something and then you don't do it, you create a situation where your brain thinks that you lie to you. This is something that will completely zap your energy. It absolutely will bring your confidence and the confidence you have in yourself down, and it'll start to replace excitement with anxiety around. Whatever the subject is, whatever thing you want to do in And overall, you're able to pour less into the other things that you're doing.

Speaker 1:

If you don't pour into you, you have nothing to pour into others. If you're not pouring anything good into yourself, what do you think will be pouring out? And why is this? This is because if you're putting something off and you're putting something on the back burner or on this never-ending to-do list somewhere near the bottom, thinking to yourself oh you know, i'll get to this eventually, this does sit in your thoughts, even just a little, even when you're not actively thinking about it. This thing that's on the to-do list is diverting attention from all the other things that we're doing now. That's why sometimes those things that would help us more, or even help us the most, if we got it done, it becomes the hardest thing to do. We put them off too long and the excitement around it has turned anxious. We've lost any good energy that was attached to it. And I want you to think of it this way You really do save your energy by getting things done, and getting them done sooner than later. I'm going to ask you something Have you ever heard the concept of activation energy?

Speaker 1:

It's this idea that when you get an idea, it activates something inside of you. But if you put it off and you leave it for later, it starts to kill that momentum, starts to kill that drive. If you need creativity and you need brain power for it, the longer you wait, the more that drains. And there's this great, great book called Big Magic. It was written by Elizabeth Gilbert and she writes in her book about this perspective that ideas are completely their own entity. If you don't act on the excitement or the motivation behind an idea when you have it, then she says that idea will just leave you. If you don't use an idea when it comes to you, she believes that it even has the potential to move on to someone else. And this concept is really, really interesting. I definitely suggest, if you want to, it's a great read. You should definitely pick this up If it's something you're thinking about reading you've heard it before. I'm going to tell you go ahead, skip the next 30 seconds because I'm going to get a little spoiler if you haven't. But in any case, in her book she's talking about this incredibly niche idea that she had for another book. It was incredibly niche, she said.

Speaker 1:

It was about a middle-aged spinster from Minnesota who fell in love with her married boss. She gets involved in a foolish business scheme down in the Amazon jungle A bunch of money and a person goes missing and the character is sent down there to sort things out. It's a love story And she put it off and put it off And when she finally went to write it she realized the worst thing had happened. She lost her passion. It was gone. The desire and the drive and the will to write it just went away. And years later she made a new friend And one day she's out to lunch with this new friend and the new friend, the woman, told her that she was writing a book. Of course this interested her and she asked what it was about. And wouldn't you believe it? The same dang, super specific idea. Literally, it was about the exact same thing. So this is what compelled her to write Big Magic and explore the thought that ideas are something that can literally come to you and leave you if you don't give it enough attention Really cool way to look at it.

Speaker 1:

I like that perspective, but I can attest to this in some sense. You have no idea how many notes I have in my notes app. The little things that I had jotted down that I thought in the time were my most profound ideas, great symbols to share and to coach on, great stories to tell. But since I didn't really do anything about it in the time, i didn't really write it out all the way. When I knew it well, the excitement went away, it was gone And then for some of them I went back and read and I didn't even understand it, like the visuals I got that I was going to use for that lesson for that day I don't even understand the profound way that I had it before because I didn't act on it.

Speaker 1:

So I say all of this to say that when you get your things done, the important things to you done, not only does it free up your overall energy, but Sometimes, when you don't use the energy behind the action that you want to take. You won't be able to for a number of different reasons, and I want to give you my most important point here. Here's what I need you to know and really just take away from this whole conversation Not doing what you know you need to do, not doing the thing, that you're procrastinating on, continuing to not do it creates resistance, and resistance is that inner force that zaps our energy and absolutely blocks our creativity. I want you to think of resistance as the opposite of motivation and of creativity. It's something that can really sneak into our headspace. It disguises itself as our voice of reason, but tells us all the reasons why we shouldn't do the thing. It tells us don't do it now. It tells us there's always tomorrow, we're not ready yet, that we don't feel right or the timing isn't perfect.

Speaker 1:

Resistance is when our best intentions for ourselves are overshadowed by our fears, our doubts, our insecurities and our limiting beliefs. But here's the thing Resistance is only powerful and it only has power if you allow it to. It helps so so much when we recognize it for what it truly is. When we recognize resistance for what it truly is, it's nothing more than an illusion or a mental fallacy that stands between us and the life that we desire. Because resistance thrives, my friends, on inaction, on our unwillingness to face the things that come up when we're pursuing our passions, the things that feel too hard or new or challenging or scary. And the longer we let resistance win and we let it hold us back just put these things on the back of the to-do list the harder it becomes for our brain to break free from it. The resistance becomes much more familiar to us, more so than tapping into our momentum, tapping into our flow and getting things done. But here's the thing When we choose to confront our resistance head on, this is where we start to find our untapped energy, our creativity, that really golden nugget that is within all of us, where we create that flow.

Speaker 1:

I want you to imagine a life where you wake up every day You're feeling energized, you're feeling inspired and ready to tackle the things that are most important to you. Imagine that sense of fulfillment and really feel it as it washes over you when you're taking the bold and the unfamiliar steps towards your dreams. Instead of just sitting still in resistance, waiting for the right day or the right time, or just putting it off into an undescribed one day, start a pursuit of excellence that makes sense to you. Every time I hear that word, it gives me a little bit of chills, but I want you to think about your personal pursuit of excellence, and that doesn't mean doing every single thing a thousand percent of the time, but it's doing things that make the most sense to you and not getting stuck in a resisted place. Because here's the thing, my friends, we are all capable of achieving our own greatness and our own excellence.

Speaker 1:

We have the capacity to tap into our potential for achieving exactly what we want. And how is that? It starts with our choice, a choice to embrace, maybe, temporary confusion or discomfort, but to confront our fears head on and to take action, even when you don't know the exact path yet, because that's okay. Every step we take towards the lifestyle that we desire for ourselves, it's a victory, and you have to think of it as such. You have to let your brain know that this is good, this is the direction that we want, this is safe and this is what we want.

Speaker 1:

To be familiar. Every time we do that, it's a step away from our limits and it's a step away from the things that create resistance within us, and it's a step towards the life we know we deserve. It's towards the creation of our dreams, the manifestations of our talents and the fulfillment of the purpose and what we really desire. Remember you are stronger than anything that holds you back, and remember this as you take on your week and you take on this month Absolutely all of my love to every single one of you. I cannot wait to hear exactly where this reminder takes you. But all right, my loves, that's where I'll leave us today. I want to thank you so much for joining in on this conversation with me, and each week, every Monday, we're going to be posting a new episode, going a little bit deeper into the conversation, of what you can do to train your brain on purpose to really allow for the lifestyle that you want to live. Until next time, my loves. In the meantime, here's to your health and your happiness.
