Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this lively episode of "Dog Friendly," host Brandon Bennett chats with Bozz, the cheerful mascot of the Longmont Humane Society. Bozz, a lovable rescue dog, shares how he can emulate Bob Barker’s charm—minus the dog breed details—just a happy pup wagging his tail and spreading joy. Bozz demonstrates some fun tricks like playing dead, giving paws, and even doing card tricks, all while exploring his love for the community.
Brandon also reviews the Outward Hound Non-Skid Plastic Slow Feeder Bowl, used for his own fast-eating Pit mix, Roo. He gives it a solid 4 out of 5 stars for helping slow Roo down during mealtime. Bozz's walk-around at Longmont’s Oktoberfest, greeting kids and posing for pictures, highlights the fun, family-friendly atmosphere the Humane Society fosters. This episode is full of heartwarming stories, community spirit, and good old-fashioned dog love!

Let's dive into today's episode. Good morning, everybody at this great time. May 8th. Hope everybody's having a good day out there. You know, I forgot to tell everybody that on last week's podcast, we are moving to Thursdays. Gives me a little more time to get all these edits. A lot more subscribers, which is great. Keep them coming. Keep some DMs. Any suggestions you want me to, anybody you want me to interview, drop us a line, info at alpinehowell.com. Send us through the DM at alpinehowell. That's our Instagram handle. But we got a lot of great content coming up, a lot of good interviews, an author. We're gonna speak with an author next week. We got a great interview. And then a local celebrity, in the Uber world. This was pretty exciting stuff. So I needed some more time to get all this out there and I apologize that I did not let everybody know. But this week's episode, we go turn back the hands of time a little bit. Forgot that I had this one on file, but we went to the Longmont Oktoberfest just down the road. We had a couple of great interviews there. A couple more to promote here. But just a short episode with the mascot, Boz. He sat down with us for a few minutes to talk about himself what he likes to do what he's doing at the oktoberfest and be in the face for the longmont humane society one paw shake at a time take her away boss
SPEAKER_00all right
SPEAKER_01come up with your backstory yeah yeah yeah we're gonna we're gonna we're this is gonna be literally on the fly because my i'm always on the fly but what what is your name
SPEAKER_00boss boss the rescue dog
SPEAKER_01okay so first and last and what do you do Wait, Boz? Boz. B-O-Z? B-O-Z-Z. Okay, I grew up with a buddy. His name was Nathan. I was talking about him last night,
SPEAKER_00actually. Oh, I love Nathan. He's a good dog owner. His nickname was Boz. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I kid
SPEAKER_00you not. He's got a good reputation out there.
SPEAKER_01I mean, Slinger, Wisconsin, town of 3,000 people.
SPEAKER_00Yep, but Humane Society in Longmont takes dogs from all over.
SPEAKER_01That's great.
SPEAKER_00And what do you do? I wag my tail. I am very good. And when I'm very good, when I'm a good boy, I get treats. So I'm a good boy. I do do that very well. And sometimes I'll chase my tail. But that's more for you. I know you think it's for me, but I'm doing it for your entertainment.
SPEAKER_01What kind of dog are you?
SPEAKER_00I mean, you're yellowish with purple. Lettering? You know, I think I'm not a fan of that question because it doesn't matter what kind of dog I am. I'm a happy dog. I'm a happy dog.
SPEAKER_01That can be a breed, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. I'm a happy dog
SPEAKER_01breed. It's completely okay that you're just a happy breed.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I am. I'm a happy dog. I'm a
SPEAKER_01good boy. We know. I mean, you're sitting in a chair politely. Do you bark?
SPEAKER_00If I have to. If you're in danger, I will.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Do you have an owner? No.
SPEAKER_00Right now I'm with the Longmont Humane Society, but I'm sure very soon I will get adopted.
SPEAKER_01Oh, gosh, I hope so. You're cute as hell.
SPEAKER_00I give the big eyes when people come in, so it's just a matter of days at this point. And do you know any tricks, Boz? Like card tricks? I know a few. Like if you have a deck, I'll do some.
SPEAKER_01Bad joke.
SPEAKER_00Well, hey, listen, I'm a dog.
SPEAKER_01Tricks. Tricks are for kids, all
SPEAKER_00right? Oh, silly rabbit.
SPEAKER_01Okay. No, do you know any tricks? Do you do
SPEAKER_00paw? Do you do back flips? I do paw. You can rub my belly. I think that's a trick. I can play dead for several hours. All right. So I'll shake hands.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Yeah. Oh, you have a hand.
SPEAKER_00I'll shake paws.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good. I'm going to clarify this to make sure. Shake paw. Yeah, I got it. I got it. So what's your favorite thing about the Longmont Humane Society?
SPEAKER_00Um... You know, Longmont's a big town, and the Humane Society does a lot of different things to service that town. Medical, you know, not just adoptions. They'll do medical procedures. They'll take unwanted strays, cats and dogs. They'll take, you know, lost and found pets until they find their owners again. They just do all the things that we need, cats and dogs. And I do like cats, if you're wondering.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah. My question was going to be, like, how many—what's your number— You know, like, you know... Stripes down your arm, tattoos. How many you got? The
SPEAKER_00cats and I are simpatico. We get along.
SPEAKER_01Okay, good, good, good. And how'd you end up at the Humane Society? Did you just run in or what? Did they just take you? I don't know if they would. They
SPEAKER_00did, you know. I was with the family, but it wasn't a good fit for them. And things changed, so the Humane Society took me in. And like I said, when people show up, I put on my A-game. So I'll be adopted pretty soon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can see that. I can see that. Maybe by somebody here at the Oktoberfest. And what's going on today? I mean, I just saw you come out in the last hour or so. What have you been doing around here? What's going on?
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know, it's a great place. There's an obstacle course for dogs. There's just lots of grass and trees for us to hang out on. So I've just been walking around, enjoying the atmosphere, listening to music, playing with kids, a couple of selfies here and there. So it's been a good day.
SPEAKER_01Gosh, that's so special. Okay. You know, we're not trying to cut you short or anything like that because you're a big, tall dog. We always ask the owners, but Your owner clearly isn't here. I mean, I don't know if Marcy's here and, like, taking care of you or not. But anyway, if you could say anything in English, because dogs bark, what would you say to people that are around you? What would you say?
SPEAKER_00I would like to quote my favorite game show host. Remember to spay and neuter your pets.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Bob Barker, R.I.P. Bob Barker. R.I.P. All right,
SPEAKER_00all right. Rest in peace. Well, Boz... I want to thank you for having me here today. I see a mailman in the corner, and he's with a squirrel, so I really can't stay much longer.
SPEAKER_01I was just going to say, thank you for being with us. This has been excellent, Boz. I hope we got some great pictures, and come back again. I'll be here. This is great. I can't wait to throw some treats at you.
SPEAKER_00Next time I'm here, I'll be adopted. I can't wait. Thanks so much, Boz. Bye.
SPEAKER_01All right. Thank you, Boz. Thank you, Longmont Humane Society. Remember to support your local Humane Society here in Longmont. We have a fantastic crew there, growing leaps and bounds. It's not too far away, but check them out at thelongmonthumanesociety.org, the nearest one in your area. I support them. I donate as much as I can from the sales that I have because it's important to me. I don't want dogs to go. Dogs and cats work with all sorts of rescues of that nature, but... It was fun. It was cool to sit down with a talking mascot. You look at mascots, sometimes you're like, do you say anything? Anyway, thank you, Boz. All right, thank you, everybody. We're on to reviews. This week, I had talked about it last week that I have a bowl that I've been using for my pit mix, Roo, because he eats just so fast. And I think a lot of people have this sort of conundrum with some of their pets, dogs in particular, but mine I caught early on and got them the swirly bull is what I call it, but the technical term is And it's by Outward Hound. So you can check them out. I'll plug them in the notes. OutwardHound.com. But the Outward Hound non-stick plastic slow feeder interactive dog bowl. Mine's in teal. You can get them in a couple other colors, sizes as well. This is a two cup. Got it on, I believe I bought mine on Chewy.com. It's been a while, but I forgot that that was an important thing to me. I've been talking about dog bowls for the past... couple reviews. But it works wonderful. I didn't know that the company does so much, which I presume most do. There's not just a one and done, which I think is great. But this company, fantastic products. They have a great mission statement. Their mission is to enrich the lives of pets and their families worldwide with innovations that deliver happiness. You can't beat that with a stick. No, don't fetch that stick. But they have a lot of neat interactive pieces on their website. Education for dogs, products, and not just for dogs, for cats as well. But a wonderful bowl. Dog slows him down. He's been slower than my blue healer. she's done in no time very food motivated dogs that are also ready in the morning and they're on a time schedule so they're once in the morning once at night and he's ready to go with it but it's a great product I think that 4.5 out of 5 stars is adequate for it great price point and You know, it's great for what I need them to do. It does exactly what I want out of a product that slows my dog down. Dishwasher safe and make sure you use it. It recommends low heat. And I mean, what can I say? Great product. Thank you. Go check it out. Outward Hound. Again, I'll plug it in the notes as well. So, all right, that's it for this week's episode. We're switching to Thursdays. I got, again, a couple great guests in the hopper coming up in the next couple of weeks and everybody should get excited about this to hear from an author, uh, wrote about his journey with his dog and just a great human. And I love it that we got to talk interactive. This one was over, uh, many state lines. And then, uh, Got a little bit of talk with the Uber dog coming up a couple weeks here. All right.
