Kitty:

Welcome! This is Kitty Glomski from Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, along with my cohost, Brooke Mainville bringing you Let's Talk About Aging in our first ever maiden voyage in the online world of podcasts.

Brooke:

On the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, we'll bring you two exciting shows of special interest with information, interviews, and events from across Northeast Michigan.

Kitty:

There are three topics that Brooke and I will touch on in each session of Let's Talk About Aging. The first one is scams. There's an alarming and growing number of scams happening throughout Northeast Michigan and everyone, especially older adults, need to be protected. Each episode starts with a"scam alert" where we chat about the active scams happening now in your area, what to watch out for, and how to protect yourself. We'll explain the Senior Medicare Patrol network. Counselors take your information, report scams and fraud directly to Medicare and other agencies that investigate. We'll interview and talk with MMAP counselors from the Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program, who work with victims and learn how scammers trick you out of your information and your money. The counselors in the Senior Medicare Patrol have a motto: Detect. Protect. Report. The toll free number for the Senior Medicare Patrol is 1 800 803 7174.

Brooke:

The second topic discussed are the upcoming local programs and a calendar of events. There are so many programs being offered throughout our region that you'll want to know about: education, exercise, fall prevention, healthy living, caregiver, nutrition, and more. Each podcast will highlight what's happening and how you can participate. These programs are geared for adults and all of them are free.

Kitty:

last topic is the information that you'll want to know about and interviews that you'll want to hear. One podcast each month hosted by me, will cover Medicare and Medicaid topics that interest persons with disabilities and older persons throughout Northeast Michigan. You'll be able to understand how Medicare works, how to get affordable prescriptions, who to contact when you need help, and the real story about those benefits that you're entitled to.

Brooke:

In the second show each month, we'll introduce you to the Area Agency on Aging and NEMCSA- Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency's programs and services. We'll have a conversation about our organization and who we are, what we do, and what's available to you where you live. You will talk and tour through all the services offered by Region 9 Area Agency on Aging. Some of our first podcasts will feature interviews with the Long-term Care Ombudsman and the nutrition specialists, and many others. You won't want to miss it.
