Positivity Defeats Paralysis
At the age of 13, Sydney Fowler became paralyzed from a rare staph infection in her spinal cord. One day she was meeting with college volleyball scouts, and quite literally the very next day she was in the hospital unable to move her legs. Being so young, the cross-fitter relied heavily on her parents Jeremy and Christi Fowler, who put their lives on hold to create a new normal for their family. Now, three years after the diagnosis, the most impressive thing about Sydney isn't that she is back in the gym competing in CrossFit competitions or that the Paralympic coach for water skiing has scouted her out. The most impressive and important thing to Sydney, and her family, is the positivity they have held onto in the midst of a life changing complication and the determination they have to now make a difference in the paralysis community.
