JESUS AND THE CONDEMNED (THE DEVIL)
Easter Villains Meet Easter’s Victor – Part 4
Pastor Keith Stewart
April 9, 2023 | Easter

Join us this Easter for what is sure to be an unforgettable message. Throughout this series, we’ve been taken back to the days and weeks leading up to Christ’s death by crucifixion. There is an undeniable and menacing darkness that builds in the story until it reaches its consummation in the cross. Yet when all hope seems gone and the very light of the Son of God has been extinguished, God does what we least expect and brings light from darkness, hope from despair, life from death, and victory from defeat. Come discover why the Easter message brings light and life into your darkest night.

SERIES: EASTER’S VILLAINS MEET EASTER’S VICTOR

It’s easy to assume that good guys have the only lessons we need to learn. But that’s not even remotely true. There are plenty of things to learn from the bad guys as well. On a basic level, villains often propel the story forward and provide contrast to the hero. Honestly, stories can’t exist without them. Typically, the worse the bad guy, the greater the triumph of the good guy. This is especially true when it comes to the Easter story. As the salvation story reaches its climax, the villains multiply and bring their collective power against the Son of God. But far from a message of despair and hopelessness, Easter’s Victor soars above the conflict to bring light and salvation to all who seek it.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Pastor Keith began today’s message by exploring different explanations put forth as to why Satan would be so intent on killing Christ despite the fact that in killing Christ he was killing his own power and influence. What are your thoughts as to why Satan went through with his diabolical plan?

2. In the message, Pastor Keith highlighted that God didn’t want to merely DESTROY Satan, He needed to REFUTE Satan. We know that Satan’s accusation began with God even before he ever leveled an accusation toward us. How did the cross refute Satan’s lies about God? How many people have you met that still believe lies about God? What have they said and how would you answer them?

3. Based on the messages and other Scriptures you know, how has what Christ accomplished on the cross stripped the devil of his power? What specifically can he no longer do against the people of God? How does this affect your view of the evil one? How will you respond differently in light of this?

4. Talk or write about the difference between thinking of the Christian life as “Jesus in me” versus “my life in Christ”.

5. What have been your biggest learnings throughout this entire series? How has it changed the way you see Easter or the villains of Scripture? In what ways has your spiritual life been enhanced? How have you been challenged to dig deeper into other familiar stories of the Bible?
