Ephesians 1:18-19I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

The song “Auld Lang Syne” can be attributed to an anonymously authored old Scottish poem, which was rewritten in the 1780’s by Robert Burns and that was later turned into song.  Canadian born band leader, Guy Lombardo helped make “Auld Lang Syne” an American New Year’s Eve tradition when his band, “the Royal Canadians”, played the song on radio and later television broadcasts starting on December 31, 1929.
I began to reminisce as I sat here writing this last of the year/first of the year “Word of the Week”.  I remembered my year’s triumphs, failures, challenges and blessings.
2023 started with the death of a family matriarch and ended with the hope of new life with the coming birth of my niece’s baby girl.  So many times, God’s plans were different from our own as there were several unexpected reasons to travel while we updated features in our home.
Some grandchildren matured into adults, and I witnessed circumstances that appeared to be “unto death” gloriously changed to “unto life”.  I happily celebrated the birthdays of those who have succeeded the life span of 3 scores and ten as they continue to live, thus far, decades in relatively good health.
In 2023, the world has exploded into multiple opportunities for self-destruction and territorial annihilation as global politics and controversies expose corruption, inattentiveness and radical changes in everything from intelligence to climate. And as radical as these changes may be to me, I realize that there is nothing “new under the sun”.
While remembering and reflecting on the goodness of God, I risk becoming entrenched with doubt and lack of faith as I remember the many mistakes, bad decisions and missteps that I have made. But,God has directed us to forget anything that could lessen our understanding of God’s ability to help us rise above our perceived difficulties so that not only can we be blessed but so that we can become a blessing.
I EXHORT us to remember “things long past” (AULD LANG SYNE) as we “remember the hope to which God has called us.”  Let us continue to honor, uphold our responsibilities, and live according to the purpose of God as we continue to serve God, our family and the community of humankind.
I pray that during 2024 we
• Examine ourselves as we allow God to define our singular and collective purpose. • Xenials, Millennials, Zoomers and Boomers, all become BELIEVERS who “read”, “believe” and “live our lives” according to the spirit and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. • Hope for good health to become manifested in our minds, bodies and spirits according to the will of God. • Obey the word, as our knowledge of the Word, Ways and the Spirit of God is revealed to us. • Resist evil as God works to perfect His spirit in us.• Teach, train and tell others of the wonderful work that God is accomplishing in and for us.So,  PLEASEexhort your children, grandchildren, their children and others to become a part of the family of the ONE, TRUE, LIVING, GOD!!
