THOUGHT
Have you ever been certain you were on the right path, yet those around you urged you to reconsider? It can be frustrating and disheartening to feel alone in your convictions. I’ve been there. But, before I could engage in an argument, God quieted my spirit with Romans 2:13: “For merely listening to the law does not make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.”
That moment reminded me that the Rhema word—the inspired Word of God speaking directly into our situations—often comes just when we need it. It enabled me to respond respectfully, fostering mutual understanding. Even though we agreed to disagree, I found joy in avoiding conflict and preserving the relationship.
But what exactly is the Rhema word? Unlike the logos, which refers to God’s written and eternal Word, the Rhema word is a specific message from God delivered through scripture, prayer, or the Holy Spirit’s prompting. It’s personal, timely, and powerful, addressing us in our unique circumstances.
Think of a time when you needed guidance or reassurance. Perhaps you were caught in a negative situation and longed for a way out without causing offense. After a heartfelt prayer, a door opened unexpectedly, allowing you to leave peacefully. Or maybe you felt incapable and unsure, only to have the Spirit remind you of your favorite verse: “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.”
Even in moments of sorrow, the Rhema word is present. I remember struggling to find words of comfort for a grieving friend. As I prayed, God gave me the right words to share. Soon, we were laughing and reminiscing about their loved one—a beautiful reminder of how God lifts our spirits through His presence.
Have you experienced moments like these? If so, you’ve encountered the Rhema word in action.
Once, I encouraged a woman at church to keep moving forward. She exclaimed, “Thank you for that Rhema word! God sent you to me today.” Her response reminded me of how the Rhema word flows through us when we are attuned to the Holy Spirit.
Seeking the Rhema word requires a deliberate pursuit of God’s presence. Scholars suggest these steps:
1. Ask God for it.2. Admit both known and unknown sins.3. Commit fully to God, moment by moment.4. Pray for the Holy Spirit to activate God’s Word in your life.5. Trust that you are worthy of God’s Spirit.
As we walk in righteousness, the Rhema word works more effectively, opening our hearts to a deeper understanding.
The Rhema word embodies the Spirit of God’s spoken power—it is life-changing and restorative, bringing guidance, hope, strength, and encouragement.
As we begin this New Year, may we draw closer to the Holy Spirit, ministering to one another, allowing God’s spoken power to minister through us.
GOD BLESS YOU!!
