THOUGHT
The imagination is a wonderful gift from God. It is one of the most powerful forces of the human mind, the ability to see that which does not exist.
It is the mind of a child that can see the possibility of something that does not exist. Imagination drives them to follow a path that creates the object, bringing it from imagination to reality. It is imagination that allows a sorrowful woman to transcend the violence of a scornful man’s anger and contempt, envisioning the possibility of escape and a hopeful future.
The imagination is limitless. It can receive images that are good, productive, and beautiful, as well as those that are destructive, hurtful, and grotesque. It is as vast as God’s creation, and like all great power, it must be wielded with care. To ensure its benefits to humanity, God sent prophets to guide people in using this gift to honor and serve Him. The prophets' divine duty was to instruct the people in God’s ways, commandments, and nature so they could remain blessed.
The prophet Jeremiah, called during the reign of King Josiah, helped lead the Israelites away from idol worship and back to God’s commands. His time parallels with ours in many ways.
America, once known as “the land of liberty and justice for all,” was founded on the principles of the Bible by people who honored God's word. The Constitution was written with a desire to reflect the spirit and nature of God. But today, the fervor for God has waned. Our nation now serves a variety of idols—money, social media influencers, technology, and more. Just as in the days of Jeremiah, our leaders are leading us astray.
During the days of Israel’s disobedience, God warned His people: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; they speak a vision of their own imagination, not from the mouth of the Lord.” They give assurances of peace as if God has given them the authority to declare peace in His name, while in the stubbornness of their hearts they declare that ‘calamity will not come upon you.’
Today, imagine the disdain that God is experiencing as He watches His people being led astray by the power of their own imaginations, as evidenced by the rise of:
• Secularism: Resulting in a society that operates independently of spiritual or divine influence.
• Idolatry: Worshiping idols, money, power possession and fame rather than the one true God.
• False Teachings: Philosophies and ideologies that contradict biblical teachings, which allows truth and morality to become subjective rather than necessary.
• Immoral Behaviors: Where greed, deceit, adultery, and violence, which go against the ethical and moral guidelines laid out in the Scriptures are tolerated.
• Human Pride: The belief in human self-sufficiency and the rejection of the need for God, that places human reasoning and achievements above Divine wisdom.
• Environmental Exploitation: Ignorance of the biblical mandate to be stewards of the Earth while exploiting its natural resources.
Now, imagine when we go to God in humble submission to heal our land and restore our relationship with Him and with each other, how much happier and blessed our world could be!
