THOUGHT
Now, the word yield can mean different things depending on the context. And those meanings carry powerful implications for our lives.
Note the following examples:1. When we see a yield sign, we slow down and move forward with caution because there may be the possibility of danger or risk ahead. To eliminate the danger we give up speed and focus our attention more carefully. 2. In farming or finance, yield refers to results. It is the harvest from a planted seed; the return on an investment; or the fruit of time spent studying. In this context, yielding is not surrender—it is an outcome. But it still requires effort: tending the soil, monitoring the market, or commitment to learning.3. In a competition or battle, to yield means to admit defeat—often because we recognize we lack the strength, skill or resources to continue, win or defeat the opponent. It is a choice.
In each of these examples, yielding only happens when there is an opportunity to make a choice. You cannot slow down if you are going down a steep hill with no brakes. You will not realize a gain if the seeds are bad, the stock market crashes, or your area of study is invalid. Nor can you surrender in a competition that never happens.
So, yielding is not automatic. It is not instinctual. Yielding happens when we are in a condition that allows a choice, and we must be willing to make that choice.
God created us with that unique ability: the ability to choose what we will yield to—and what we will seek to receive a yield from.
We should not yield to the flesh, but to the spirit….
Today, we live in a time when access to the Word of God has never been more available. Yet instead of yielding to the truth of the Word of God and to the power of the Holy Spirit, many of us are demanding that others yield to their human intellect, their human authority, their human control.
The result? A world of chaos, turmoil and confusion where there may be no time to yield, and destruction becomes inevitable. But here is the good news. When we hear the Word of God and believe it, we are not passively collecting information. We are actively choosing to yield to the Holy Spirit—surrendering our will to the will of God resulting in transformation.
Yielding to God is a decision that produces life-changing opportunities to produce a harvest not just for those who believe, but for humanity and the future of this planet.
So, I leave you with this choice:
To whom will you yield…to God, or to man?
