SERIES: PROTECT
WORD OF THE WEEK“WEAPON”
DEFINITION: A weapon is any tool, object, or means used to defend, resist, or overcome a threat. It is something designed or chosen to protect, fight, push back, or neutralize danger—whether that danger is physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual.
Scriptures:Psalms 91:1“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Isaiah 54:17 - “And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me.”
Hebrews 4:12 - “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Word of the Week:WEAPONIn our ongoing discussion of PROTECT, we have explored boundaries—those essential lines that define the who, what, when, and where of protection. Boundaries tell us what belongs inside the realm of our care and what must remain outside. But the intensity of protection is dictated by something deeper. Protection is profoundly relational. How we protect—the rules of engagement—is shaped by how intricately the well‑being of a life at risk is woven into our own. Relationship determines how fiercely we guard, how quickly we respond, and how far we are willing to go.
We must also consider the nature of the danger. Not every threat requires the same response. Some dangers call for a shield, some for a warning, some for a boundary, and some for a weapon. Whether the warfare is physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual determines the strategy and the appropriate weapon. Faith, knowledge, skill, and discernment all play significant roles in why, when, and how we protect.
Think of how many movies begin with a familiar scene: two people stranded on a dark, lonely road. The villain is closing in. They are exposed, vulnerable, and unprotected. But ahead—just in time—they see a building. They run toward it, slam the door, and barricade themselves inside. Suddenly, they have a boundary—a line between them and danger. But a boundary without a means of defense is only half a solution.
Inside the building—an abandoned carpenter’s shop—they find a hammer, a bottle of some kind of liquid, and an old box of matches. Not ideal weapons, but enough to give them hope. As the enemy approaches, they gather their makeshift tools, take cover behind a pile of rubble, and whisper a silent prayer, vowing to fight to the death for one another.
This scene repeats itself across literature because it reveals the guiding principles that motivate us to protect and what that protection requires. It shows that even in fear, love produces a sense of protection that gives birth to hope.
It also illuminates the bonus of humanity: we (HUMANS) have the ability to form a deep, personal, spiritual relationship with our Creator—complete with benefits. God’s Word promises that those who serve and trust Him have access to love, safety, care, guidance, and divine protection, and guarantees that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17)
What greater reason DO WE NEED to draw closer toJehovah—our Creator, our Lord, and our Savior—whose protection surpasses every boundary, every threat and every weapon.
