Word of the Week:
ACCOUNTABLE
Hello Family :I was preparing to conclude the Calling series when MLS, one of my faithful readers, suggested another word that is essential to fulfilling God's calling. I immediately agreed. Being “Accountable” is not only essential – it is required to fully accomplish our assignment. For that reason, we are adding one more word to the “Calling” Series. We must understand that while we may be faithful, if there is no accountability, we will not successfully fulfill the requirements of the assignment.
Faithfulness and accountability are like the two sides of a coin in fulfilling your God-given assignment. Faithfulness is revealed through obedience and integrity to God’s word. Accountability is revealed by the responsibility you take for what you do as you carry out your calling.
There is no competition between faithfulness and accountability. Instead, they work together to ensure that the calling of God is conducted in a way that exhibits both spiritual integrity and practical responsibility.
We are both spirit and flesh. Faithfulness speaks to our spiritual relationship with God as we establish “why” we answer God’s call. Accountability speaks to our conduct and establishes “how” we answer God’s call. Below is a clearer breakdown of the two concepts:
Faithfulness – It aligns our motives with the will of God.· It is a fruit of the Spirit of God in operation.· Is motivated by love and obedience to God.· It is an internal and “spiritually governed” commitment.· It is essential to the covenantal relationship between God and humanity.· It is immeasurable.· Can exist without human accountability.
Accountability – It aligns our actions with the requirement of the assignment. · It is an external commitment.· Supports the calling.· It is measurable and performance driven. · Is structural or by agreement. · Does not require a covenant.· It is driven by duty, discipline and consistency.
Without accountability, faithfulness becomes loyalty riddled with excuses for failure or non-performance. Without faithfulness, accountability becomes a performance, available to the highest bidder.
Faithfulness keeps your heart aligned with the righteousness of God. Accountability keeps your actions aligned with the standards of God. But, when these two operate together, your calling is not only answered — it is completed. Your life reflects both the character of God and the responsibility of God’s obedient child.
Answering the call of God gives you the opportunity to become one of the few who respond in love and obedience, responsibility and integrity. You become…THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!
