Hey there, "My Kind of Scene" listeners! Cara here.

I wanted to let you know that I'm taking a little time off. I have been having so much fun making this show for you, but I need a break to rest and recharge. So, there won't be a new episode in September.

But, I don't want to leave you hanging, so I thought I'd recommend a few music podcasts that I've been enjoying lately.

If you like stories about Australian music, the podcast, "Awesome Aussie Songs," is full of fascinating insider info about so many classic Australian songs, especially from the 60s, 70s and 80s. After the recent, sad news about Olivia Newton John's passing, I highly recommend episode 58, "I Honestly Love You," as a fitting celebration of her life and legacy.

Zan Rowe's long-running "Take 5" podcast is a fun, conversational way to discover more about your favorite local and international acts, while delving into the 5 songs that inspired their life and art. And Zan has been busy turning "Take 5" into a TV show recently, so keep an eye on ABC TV for that!

Venturing further afield, the original inspiration for my show was the wonderful Slate podcast, "Hit Parade". Each month, US chart historian Chris Molanphy walks you through a different aspect of pop music history, in two parts, that I honestly hang out for every fortnight. Great episodes include "Blame It On the Feign" – an analysis of the rise and fall of Milli Vanilli, and "A Deal with the TV God" – that examines the impact of television on the chart success of songs. And probably my favorite episode is "Be the One to Walk in the Sun," which intertwines the varied success stories of female rock-pop acts, The Bangles, Aimee Mann and Cyndi Lauper.

And finally, if you were alive in the '90s, or even if you weren't, I highly recommend my latest obsession – "60 Songs That Explain the '90s". From No Doubt to No Scrubs, from Whitney Houston to Weezer, music critic Rob Harvilla recounts the impact of these decade-defining songs through the lens of his own personal midwestern college kid experience, and invites a diverse cast of music journalists and experts to dive into their broader musical and cultural influence. Listen to this one on Spotify for the full talk and music experience.

I hope that's enough audio fodder to tide you over until the next episode of "My Kind of Scene". Links to each show are in the episode description. Thanks so much for listening – talk with you again soon!
