hello hello i am celebrity marketing
expert lori levine
hey now i'm digital content creator lisa
levett we are die hard howard stern
show listeners looking to connect with
other female super fans and this is the
pop podcast so it's been a few weeks
where we were glitched we are unglitched
we are back
with episode two
a lot has happened a lot
definitely so
you know i feel like the show is
definitely like
you know it's it's on kind of like more
of like a
like you know a whack pack staff band
which i really love like i love the
celebrity interviews but i usually don't
listen to them more than once i kind of
lean in so
when amy schumer canceled last week and
i had to reschedule because she was sick
and we ended up getting you know ronnie
i'll take ronnie for an hour i'll take
learning about jd yeah yeah and and then
obviously the outcome of the jizz hat
you know i know that you and i had
talked offline about the fact that we
thought benji got fired and that's why
the jizz hat wasn't around because we
hadn't heard from him there were two
weeks ago
and the jizz hat coming around jd came
back for i think two weeks from after
super bowl we're like they haven't even
talked about it they're not even
mentioning it and then it gets brought
up again and here is
benji
ruining another bit again and what's
funny is that you know when they started
talking about benji like when we heard
that rumor that he was fired i was like
how is this possible how is it possible
that i mean this is such good fodder for
the show like and like the gist that was
never going to really be
like a thing because it's not like
richard could put it on like he was
putting it on over like basically like a
bathing gap you know what i mean yeah so
i mean i just was like
i knew it was going to be a disaster the
second they handed it to him when it was
like so complicated like listen take the
hat and go and masturbate on it like is
there much more that finish on the hat
like is there anything else that really
needs to be kind of spoken about
yeah it's it's like when we throw it
back a couple weeks ago like we got into
the typical like benji analysis
paralysis as i call it for the vortex
that's good i like the bungee analysis
yeah
exactly so like what do you want me to
do with it and should i do it now and i
was like oh
this is just going to die on the vine if
he doesn't get his stuff together
because
i feel like this is the reason this
outcome has happened
is not because of lack of demonstrating
that it can be done it's just the folks
zero confidence in working with benji
0.0
so everybody was just like screw it you
know what this is gonna be too much
effort they just moved on they just lost
the passion for it well i think we
thought that but then as it turned out
there was all kinds of drama backstage
like you know behind the scenes they're
like they were trying to get it and then
howard was like oh again it's you know
it it's always schtick-coma it's always a
schtick it's always something it can never
just be like you know amazingly like you
hand it to sal he gets it done you hand
it to blit he gets it done blitz
traveling it all over the place and
here's benji ruining it and it's like i
kind of also feel like even though what
they're doing to the hat is so
disrespectful it really is the
disrespectful to everyone else's time
like this is still a show it's still a
bit you howard really did want to they
wanted to see it through they wanted to
pop that hat on richard's head i feel
like he dodged a bullet not having to
wear it but like i know and i like again
i was
probably too heavily invested in this
advent but only because
of i could see the effort that was being
put into it and i was really
cheerleading for like the the jonathan
blitz portion of the story like getting
him to like courier to like chris
wilding and getting it to like get you
know the other guys i'm just like oh man
like i was just what's gonna happen next
to the hat so when they came back from
break and we didn't hear anything about
it i'm like oh maybe they're just
letting it simmer a bit you know maybe
letting it cool down and then it's gonna
you know be back on an uptick and then
it was just silence it's like okay what
happened to the hat like what's going on
but i think the hat really did what what
the hat did for us at least what it did
for me i don't care about the jizz head
i never i don't care if i ever see it
again it for me the entree was split
jonathan bled who's been sitting behind
the scenes this whole time so when the
when the jizz hat wasn't coming to be
i'm like
where's blitt like we just want more blitt
and we got some of him you know we
certainly got more blitt because you know
obviously anything happens with ronnie
and then anybody who chimes in suddenly
becomes a thing but then we also saw the
return of mimet
who was out in l.a
with ronnie i don't really know what
ronnie was doing in l.a matching is
better than following ronnie around and
his his shenanigans are just you can
only like put on so much for so long and
then eventually he all all barriers are
down and he just becomes himself all
over again with like you know who is
angry and upset when they're first of
all getting high when everyone like
mellows out for the most part when they
get high but then angry and upset at the
little kids that are in a playground
he's like of them
i love angry ronnie and i know it really
they get him going like like they get
his engine running on purpose obviously
to get him all riled up but you kind of
got
when you know he's probably the only
person you can think of that you know is
going to get high and then become more
aggressive or worried
yeah but it's more of kind of i think
it's not him being aggressive whereas he
just like isn't the you know don't give
a
you know f attitude um i don't know and
he kind of lets him down no i think it's
the opposite i think he gives such an he
gives a [ __ ] about everything he is
you know it's like zero [ __ ] given he's
all [ __ ] given also all the time
here's what's crazy so you know i told
you um i've told you before but on the
last pod we talked about it that i used
to be the booker at late night with
conan o'brien and when i was there i was
booking artie after he came out of jail
i was booking him on the show all the
time because he was super funny and like
i don't care and he was always available
it was great so when he went over to
work at howard um and then i was over at
howard delivering some celebrity like we
were doing some promotion and they
needed a celebrity to go on the show and
so i'm backstage and now our artie's
gone we don't know where he is
and i don't know if he's in rehab and i
you know this is like you know while he
was basically like you know a couple of
years in between that were like the last
years and i walked over to ronnie and i
was like what's going on with arnie
ronnie amazingly was very
like he's okay
like he was like super chill
super like confidential like not like
putting on any errors he was just like
no no he's okay and i was like
[Music]
that's interesting yeah and i like i
really had a lot of respect for him
totally and just like no he's fine yeah
but also
intimating that i shouldn't ask any more
questions and i was like okay i'm like
okay i got and like i respected him so
much for it and you know i was and i was
surprised obviously because who he is on
air is it is different than who he is
off air when he's actually doing his job
like you know his you know standing and
being a security guard like he has his
moments and that was certainly one of
them i kind of thought i was listening
to uh the history or some sternthology
um and and they they do a lot of like
old school ronnie's like i call like pre
stephanie
and
he was boring yeah and he was so much
more reserved to a degree and it's kind
of like you see this evolution over the
last 15 or 20 years where he's kind of
like just ramped up
which is funny because
put his ramp down they yeah they
switched places howard was so angry and
so in the early days and so like all me
me me me and now howard's like much more
humbled and definitely like no it'll be
good and there's enough to go around and
you know and he's his evolution of his
he's not trying to shock
his celebrity guests he really wants to
get into like really you know
important conversations and you know and
and get to the heart of different things
and obviously he's got a very specific
point of view
and that point of view leads you down a
road of psychoanalysis which i think is
really interesting during the interviews
but yeah listening back when you go back
to star anthology or you go back to any
of the and i love going back because i'm
hearing it again sometimes for the first
time since i heard it live because
obviously i've been listening since i'm
15 and all of a sudden i'm like oh my
god i remember this or like when people
call in and ask for certain things i'm
like oh this is great or if something
gets brought up and then obviously rason
will play it later on in the day you
know on 101
and then you know and obviously this
week they talked about jd
going to a restaurant which is like i
mean like i i couldn't get enough of jd
at a restaurant with blit right then jd
goes to natalie maine's house for a
dinner party and i know you and i talked
about the fact that it's like all i want
is for jd
we need to have a dinner party to invite
jd just to see what he does because i
just don't understand like
really you don't know i mean if this is
so hard i don't understand why it's so
hard to say hey by the way can i
so i i i was thinking about this too so
like i'll go back to what i just said
like i think this is another
example of analysis paralysis so in jd's
case with this social anxiety which he
has my total empathy when it comes to
sometimes i find myself in this position
where it's like oh i don't want to
offend the chef or i don't want to you
know whether you're going to think i'm
weird by asking for the side but there
comes a certain point when in your life
where you're just like you know what i
don't care what people think anymore i'm
just talking about him saying can you
could may i have
can i swap it aside please
yeah what is going on like the poor guy
i know i feel for him and my trick is
like for anybody that's listening if you
if you're in that situation just say you
know what can i have this i'm allergic
to whatever can you just open up this
and then like don't say you're allergic
learn how to speak this is crazy to me
and why do you think that anyone
listening would have this affliction
where someone doesn't know how to say
instead of carrots i'd like peas it
seems like a very simple thing
this is not this is not
asking for something off the menu this
is not like even a specialty drink at
starbucks this is literally like i see
that you have peas with some things may
i have that instead of carrots like it
seems very simple to me am i not am i
being i'm not being sympathetic no i
think
no you i think you hit it on the head
and i think just it just goes into like
the
again trying to put yourself in what jd
is thinking for him
i think he thinks that he's he maybe
he's just constantly putting it through
the wheels and his head like what are
they gonna think what's gonna happen um
and i do empathize with them but i i
from my perspective as you get to a
certain point maybe it comes with age
and i think i'm around the same age as
he but where you just don't care
anymore
um but
i don't okay
okay jd please come to dinner with us
and then yeah we'll show you that on
your side
couple of things number one i feel like
we need to have a dinner yes and i need
we have to invite jd and his wife and
blit
yeah but who else
from the show do you want to have dinner
with i want my my i mean if we're not
talking about like i'm taking away core
and i'm just talking about support staff
other than jd
who would you like if we were having a
dinner and like in new york who else
would we want to invite for me
i want jd i want blip because i want
blitz to choose and by the way
right now every time blit posts anything
of food or whatever i'm like where did
you get that and he immediately writes
back he that seems like a perfect you
know
so
if we're eliminating core and which i
would say is friendly would be my core
but if support i will say see your jd
blit and wilding and i will raise you a
pearlman and a ronnie because i would
love to see them at dinner and just to
have that banter back and forth and to
see if it's happening in real time or
even if everything is chill knowing that
like the next week potentially it may
come up i would just be like popcorn i
just wanna be here but i just love their
their dynamic and i think it's done just
in a way like where you know they're
ripping each other but you kind of feel
like you know the love and the how they
kind of gel together i'm dumping jason
i'm dumping ronnie and i'm adding jason
oh because i kind of feel like yeah yeah
i kind of feel like
that's
yeah i don't want i'm i i'm afraid for
ronnie to come over and get drunk and
then what happens you know what i mean
but like you know jason and
um
you know
i'd also i'd add rason honestly to the
mix just to see what it was like because
i feel like first of all i really like
rasan's voice like i like the sound of
his voice i think that he's got a great
voice radio but also i think that he
comes in with really logical stuff
whereas like jason is like always trying
to like you know he's taking notes on
everybody you know what i mean
yeah for sure and then uh also too just
from a foodie perspective
you have again split though yeah jason
would probably be like the ultimate in
terms of foodie i think chris obviously
um you know would know where to go and
how will have some experience obviously
i would trust
blit is the biggest foodie in new york
of all time his instagram is almost
solely places to eat and food that he
has he's like that is like it's all
about experiences and i kind of love
that about him now throw this out here
now knowing the show if you had a chance
to have dinner
who would be your whack pack choices if
you had to invite black pack okay so
marianne from brooklyn yes marion from
brooklyn i don't think that i can handle
anyone else but i can handle marianne
from brooklyn like i loved her i met her
at jimmy kimmel when howard did jimmy
kimmel that one time and she is like
you just she's just you can just her
heart is like so big
and i've met some of the other whack
packers and it freaks me out like i'm
it's it's it's their energy is
challenging okay marianne from brooklyn
sour shoes
sour shoes interesting you think you
could be able
i feel like it would be like an exercise
in cat hurting like would you
i would literally it would be an
exercise and just come to the room and
do whatever the hell you want i wouldn't
care i wouldn't engage
be whoever you want schizophrenically
sit there and just do every single voice
for i don't care because then you also
get gary in the room because he does
such a good gary yeah that's true yeah
for sure
yeah i don't think i can handle anybody
i don't think i can handle watching any
other whack packers eat like wendy no
sorry guys uh high pitched eric nope
sorry bobo
maybe
okay i can handle but bubba is so nutty
but i feel like he's so full of [ __ ]
that i'm like
i don't i don't know that i can handle
it i've met high pitch
he um at howard's birthday show high
pitched cut in front of me in the buffet
line and i was like okay just go i mean
it was it was like buffet bar like you
can go get drinks too and i was like
have at it like seriously it's fine and
then uh jeff the drunk was really kind
of ugly when we were at kimmel and we
ran into shuli and um i guess julie was
on jeff the drunk you know for the night
and jeff was really kind of he's a
creeper like you know he was just like
hi and then he was like looking behind
me to see like what my ass looked like
and i'm like that's weird i imagine he
smells like
like old cigarettes and like pasta i
don't remember him i i we and it was
pre-pandemic so like i definitely would
have noticed if he smelled and then
medicaid pete was also at that show and
it it's just you know when you see the
whack packer in real in real in wack
pack in real life you're just kind of
like
you don't know what to do because you've
heard it's almost like meeting a
celebrity like you someone who you like
you know them but you've not known them
you know because they've been in my head
in my ears for so long and there you are
and like they don't know who the hell
you are you know what i mean
oh man so like dinner and so ultimate
dinner party if we had a choice so then
we're saying
jd
blitz
chris wilding jason jason
all right because i don't want it to be
like gary
and and john hein i wanted to be the
other parts of the crew that we could
kind of like get into i said all along
who is george takei i want to know who
some of the voices are and some of them
i recognize like we know that chris
wilding is doctor now got it like i can
hear chris when he does i can hear a
little bit of chris when he does certain
things but i still can't figure out who
george takei is obviously we don't know
who a lot of the women are who i'm still
like all i want is the women writers to
come on the pod so that we can just be
like because i'm just so curious about
like how
like you know obviously we love the show
we're super fans but i want to know like
i want to know how they you know make
the sausage like how did like where you
know where how were the meetings and
like what goes on and you know some bits
will take years and like where do they
track all of that you know even that i'm
interested in okay so that leads me to
like we have an obsession obviously
which is
the show is our obsession and our hobby
um but that got me thinking about
hobbies and howard's hobbies like
obviously jd is kind of like he'll
always be almost like a hobby to howard
like how do i fix jd but then like
there's so many hobbies like it's so
funny to me that howard doesn't want
to retire because i feel like he spends
so much time very seriously on his
hobbies like first it was chess
photography painting now it's journaling
right he's still painting and journaling
and
minimalism minimalism because which by
the way every time he does something i
start doing a little bit like when he
started talking about minimalism i like
went around the house and i was like
editing and i'm like what am i doing
like i'm not journaling but i certainly
you know i i wasn't like i didn't fast
forward through any of the chess stuff
but i just found like you know today he
was talking about some hair gel cue me
immediately going to amazon and i'm like
what's this hair gel what's that
daughter has very curly hair will this
be good for him for her i'm like oh
forty dollars um
it's nuts i mean the amount of stuff
that's in my house that he has just
suggested like tommy john underwears all
my husband wears tommy john now like it
just it goes this is like you know if i
bring something new in the house my
husband's like did howard talk about
that oh my god my husband does the same
thing oh like no no
he says anything i'll be like i would
try that my husband would be like oh i'm
cleaning out i'm doing like i just
recently i told you i'm doing a courage
playing all the closets everything's oh
are you doing minimalism because how are
we talking about this i'm like
no
yeah there's so much stuff you can
accumulate so much and then just to show
you like how much influence like howard
has obviously when we pick up these
little cues when we're listening and you
know these are really good ideas um even
like when it comes to like when he has
interviews on and the books i can't tell
you how many books i bought because
howard has mentioned it just because of
those in-depth interviews oh absolutely
i lit i mean i think that the the mel
brooks book was 18 hours audible 18
hours i listened i've already listened
to all of it just driving around like
i'm like yeah anything he mentions i
absolutely i feel like that's why also
he and robin are so i mean it's so funny
to me that howard's not going to retire
right we hope he never retires pray pray
pray please don't retire but then i'm
like
he's already doing all the things that
people do in retirement i mean even like
what like he masters these hobbies and
then he moves on like i think he's gonna
stick with painting for a long time
right because and he still does
photography although we tried to give
away almost all
cameras that wasn't happening
um
robin also has her you know that she
goes on her jobs with things like think
about it it was like boating and i still
don't i still don't even know if she can
swim colonics classical music broadway
shows travel horseback riding she owned
a horse i don't i don't know that i have
any hobbies that i take as seriously as
they do that's even a tip of the iceborn
bird she ha i think she has more like
how we talk about howard and when he
gets hobbies or his hyper fixation she i
think she's just as i wouldn't say bad
but just has just as many like race car
driving why
oh my god you're great rock climbing
didn't you do rock climbing at one point
or try your hand on rock climbing she
had to be nice i mean she tried do you
remember when she used to travel i don't
know if you remember this but she used
to literally like if the show was done
on like i guess wednesday then thursday
through sunday night she would literally
leave the country you go to amsterdam
ayahuasca right right
then of course you know q howard um
doing the uh an impression of his mother
going you're doing too much time
by the way how about the how about the
um
are you a snoozer i am not i am alarm
goes off i get up and i'm done i'm the
multiple alarms like she is so i have my
absolutely get up alarm and then my i
want to wake up an hour earlier than
that alarm so my other one's kind of
like a fail safe i find if i snooze new
snooze i'm just never going to get up
um so i have two alarms see i set
reminders in my life for things like for
instance like today for the pod have a
reminder for an hour before then i have
a reminder for a half hour before and
then when the other reminder goes off
for the half hour then i take the hour
reminder and i turn it into five minutes
so that like i know that i'm not going
to be late for things like i always
because i really abort being late i
don't want and i don't want to be late
for things and i don't want to ever keep
someone waiting for me i think always
you know
show up early when when we had a big
intern program at my company i i used to
say um
early is on time on time is late and
late is unacceptable i didn't make that
up someone someone i think a boyfriend's
dad said it to me once but i was like i
never forgot it so i'm like if you go by
that then you will never be late for
anything my husband always and i can't
do it but as always quoting that scene
from the irishman as a joke where he's
talking about whether or not they're
going to be on time and be there within
15 minutes i never i never met it was
ever flip late for 15 minutes for one i
never waited
for anyone who was late
more than 10 minutes
in my life
i'd say 15 15 right no that's kind of
like my husband's motto as well whereas
you have that 15-minute window and
um but yeah for sure like i always have
the double reminder just in case because
i know that if i you know if i have a
fail safe i always have to have a
contingency but uh yeah i used to be the
sneezer for sure so i can i can totally
get where she's coming from what i
imagine is like next on the horizon
like in howard's into journaling yeah
you know the minimalism like what is the
next thing you know what i mean like
i've done needle needle point i can do
embroidery i know how to sew like i have
those kind of hobbies and obviously like
you know i'm obsessed with pop culture
but like i'm just trying to think like
what could be the next hobby for like
her or for him yeah like she's already
done like the detoxing and enema stuff
and she had theater group
don't you think all of that though all
of the colonics enema stuff don't call
it
[Laughter]
uh
i think the colonics the veganism all of
that was in search of feeling better
yeah and when you fast forward and then
she had the grapefruit size cancer don't
you think like uh which was down in her
pelvic region aren't you like this is
what's been brewing in her body this
whole time and she never knew you know
thank god
for
dr aegas and thank god for all of her
doctors you know and that she's well um
and other than
robin's the only
person that i've ever heard of that was
taking
cancer meds and chemo and was feeling
more energetic except for your cat
as well
um i don't know what's next like i feel
like like for howard like i don't know
what his hobbies are he's been very
hands on so everything is involving the
hands right so he's chest he has the you
know photography and he has the
journaling and he has the painting so i
think if he was to do anything else it
would the hobby would be a hands-on type
of hobby
there's no way there's absolutely no way
there's no way
i think you know and he doesn't like
puzzles i don't think he likes putting
things together or putting things
together that were apart so i can't i
cannot imagine what is going to catch
his fancy next it you know because it's
not food because he's so you know
specific about
i don't i mean
because he tried that
obviously he abandoned the rock song
with mark ronson i'm so upset about that
yeah i want that to come back so badly
because it was going to be mark bronson
and then the girls from heim and i'm
like you know and then you know fred was
writing it like you know it's just so
interesting to me like what gets
abandoned and then never spoken about
again
you know
and i'm just kind of like
all right you'll bring something you
know you'll bring up other things it'll
be okay maybe someday when they do it
cleaning out the computer it'll be in
there you never know
what are we missing i mean you know it
was sad i heard that um gilbert godfrey
died this week and i had heard
about it
last night and then obviously they
talked about it this morning and they'll
do some gilbert stuff and he was on the
show 150 times or something like that
you know what even when these things
happen like you know i've noticed that
he's obviously a guest on the show quite
a bit but when you hear her like over a
hundred times you're like over a hundred
times like who else laurie do you think
when you think who's been on the show
maybe that many that's a really good
question oh my god i have to really
think about that that's a good question
i mean back in the day obviously sam
kinnison sam kinnison hands down i think
he did the show 50 times joan rivers
probably the same george takei he's
obviously the announcer for the show
andrew jace clay richard simmons oh my
god richard simmons like we're talking
back in the day the amount of times
these people came on and jim florentine
who dated robin bob schimmel like the
bottom line is like if you're
hysterically funny howard doesn't care
how often you come on the show because
you'll just be funny and he loves funny
you know remember it was people who it
there it was very proximity based right
because he was on wnbc then he was on
k-rock then he came to sirius so in the
years in which he was on k-rock you know
a lot of the time people would just like
you could pop in like when he was on k
rock i remember ambushing the building
with like some actress that we wanted to
like stunt and so he would have a
million comics on all the time so there
you know there was definitely like a
revolving door and back in the day you
could just show up and be like gary
we're downstairs with so and so and
they'd be like okay hold on a second let
me go ask howard and then you'd go as
howard and then you'd be on air i mean
it was really it's very different than
it is now first of all it was also four
or five days a week five days a week
then um you know and then also you're
showing up at like
5 30 in the morning so it's like it's
not like there's a million people out
there and like you could get their
attention you could call up and then he
would come down and you know how gary
would physically come down and like
check it out but it was a lot of comics
richard belzer richard lewis
um you know like he just loved having
the stand-ups come in and sit in you
know and it was such a different show
jackie was on the show then and it was
like
you know so much was like
it was just different you couldn't you
know some of the stuff like i know that
they had like you know the secret sexual
secrets the other day i've never yes two
vaginas what is that
oh i know and the fact that robin was
like not so surprised she's like wait do
you have two vaginas
really you've heard of anyone and then a
woman calls in and said i don't i can't
believe there's another person on the
planet that has two vaginas i'm like
what is this
i mean obviously it's so rare but and
she's physically knows the difference
and which one feels better and
and she's pregnant right now she knows
which one which uterus can use so
question for you
what did you think was her sexy secret
oh i was having trouble going down the
road
and i and truth be told i wasn't i
wasn't trying to guess i just was like
is ron i i really was more invested in
ronnie figuring it out than i was in
figuring out what it was isn't that
weird i was like come on you can do it
you can do it ask the question
that was it i was like is he can he
figure it out
were you born a dude do you have a penis
i think he passed it like
he was almost there he was like does it
have to do with your vagina and she's
like yup and then robin i can't believe
robin got it i mean i guess i can
because i feel like maybe you know she
was a nurse maybe she had heard about
this in the world of worlds
so
they were guessing i was on the
elliptical side oh did you have did you
have a guess i had a guest so my two
kids so i'm on the elliptical i'm like
come on ronnie come on you do it guy and
uh so my first guest was like okay when
he was first asking those like feeling
type questions like maybe she could go
you know
something like that and then i was like
okay it's not that uh
she's talking about how she's like doing
things like maybe can she paint with it
straight just like
you should put a paintbrush there and
paint a portrait or something i was oh
my god yeah yeah
okay so jizz had
dual vaginas
obsessions
and our dream dinner guests we've said
it all
yeah so lisa that leads me to
