In this episode of our Proverbs series, we recap the purpose of Proverbs and the fear of the Lord, then revisit the reality of competing voices that try to persuade us every day. From there, we step into Proverbs 1:20–33 where Wisdom is crying out in the streets—in the concourse, at the city gates, in the busiest places of life—warning us before the storm hits.

Using the 1900 Galveston hurricane as an illustration, we talk about how warnings are mercy. The simple, the scorner, and the fool each respond differently to Wisdom’s voice, but Proverbs shows a clear outcome: those who refuse Wisdom face distress, while those who hearken—listen and obey—find a place of safety.

Proverbs 1:33 gives this assurance: “Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” Even when storms come, Wisdom leads us to a foundation of peace in the presence of God.
