I speak about the shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas; the need for genuine gun control; and the need to rise against the surge of Fascism in this country.
Hello, hello, hello, John Mason. How is everybody? Hope you're all well. And Memorial Day is upon us. And let us pause to remember those in our military who gave their lives. We must honor them and respect their loved ones that they left behind. My heart is heavy. In a little less than a week, we have had two horrific shooting incidents. The first one was in Buffalo, a predominantly black neighborhood, a grocery store, where the where the shooter, armed with uh racist ideology, he downloaded from the internet and an AK-47 and an AR-15 decorated with uh racial slurs and racist slogans massacred uh several in several innocent people only because of their race. And and a little creep left behind a manifesto which they should have caught. In the manifesto uh recited the the great replacement theory, a very common uh thing going around around the racist internet, is the idea that uh that in this country white so-called legacy Americans, as Tucker Carlson calls them, European white descended people, are being replaced by non-white people, and which is the lot of the basis of the complaints about so-called illegal immigrants into this country. It's irresponsible for Carlson with his platform to spout that stuff. Carlson and and the and the social media platforms to uh broadcast it without uh signaling, hey, there's a problem here. It has to be stopped. And now we're at the in Uvaldi, Texas. We have this other shooting incident. We don't know the basis, we don't know the motive of a young man who goes who kill shoots his grandmother, then an hour later shoots up a high school. And it's and police officers hesitated before going inside of the building. And by the way, there were also police officers at at the school building. The school building had its own police department, at the school district had its own police department, and the sh and the shooter went on his shooting rampage before being shot by a SWAT team from the Border Patrol. And the usual ritual came up. The thoughts and prayers, and uh the shooter was just pure evil and mentally ill, and we shouldn't politicize it, make a political issue of it. Gun control. Take those assault rifles out of the street, get them off the street, regulate guns, regulate those damn things. They're dangerous. They are dangerous things. And our so-called political leaders are dithering about it. They refuse to confront the fact that this little creep, these two little creeps, go into a populated area armed with an assault rifle and massacre uh dozens of innocent people. But no, they don't want to offend uh the NRA and their political base. In their political bases, the racist, rightist, white supremacist crew that has dominated the polit uh the Republican Party way before uh Trump ever showed up. Oh, by the way, here's a fun fact. The National Rifle Association, being a citizen of souls, are having their convention this weekend in Houston, Texas. And Donald Trump is going to be one of the featured speakers along with Ted Cruz. Oh, and here's another fun fact. During the convention, according to Secret Service rules, nobody is supposed to have any firearms in the assembly hall or in the hotel rooms. So much for your Second Amendment rights. I'm sick of it. I am s I'm up to here with all these maniacs being able to attain a weapon of war, a military-grade assault rifle. But they think you're gonna hunt ducks with the damn thing? Come on. Get 'em off the street. When the Bill of Rights was being written up at the start of the George Washington administration, the Second Amendment meant a well-regulated militia. And though that era, a well-regulated militia was all the white males in the county being trained for it for internal security. Mostly uh preventing slave uprisings. And the weapons of those days were single-shot muskets. You'd take a top at tops a minute or like 30 seconds to uh after shooting the rifle to put pour the shot in and the wad in and uh and the bullet in and then shoot again. It wasn't meant for the time of the assault rifle. We have to get rid of the Second Amendment, we have to regulate the keeping and bearing of firearms like you would owning a car. You you reach a certain age to uh to own a car, to learn, but first you learn how to drive, and like when I was learning how to drive, I took a lot of practice turns in the school parking lot. I went to the state police barracks, and the trooper was in the car with me, and I drove through the chorus and asking some questions from the trooper. The trooper stamped my learner's permit. I was official. I was a driver. And that and the same common sense should go to uh only a firearm. You take it, you reach a certain age, you take a course, then you get your license, then you go purchase your firearm, and you get trained in it, and then you purchase your firearm. But you have to take a background check. Yes, background checks. See if there's any problems in your background like uh drug addiction or criminal uh problems or uh or domestic violence, anything that shows that you are not qualified to carry such a dangerous thing as a firearm. Common sense. But no, common sense doesn't dictate our politics anymore. But we're not gonna take. We must not take it. We don't deserve it, we shouldn't accept it. Let's take a stand for rational, logical gun control. I don't mean just nobody owns a gun. I mean like personally, I have a Pennsylvania state license to carry a firearm. But I'm not keeping people from having the single shot hunting rifles with the bullet action. What I'm suggesting is get those assault rifles off the street. Have make sure mentally ill people do not carry firearms and red flag laws. If a person has a problem with drug addiction or alcohol addiction or or domestic violence, intervene and take the firearms away from the guy. Who says we can't do it? Who says we can't uh implement that? Who says we have to put up with uh the rise of fascism and and domestic terrorism? Like what we've seen in Buffalo and Uvaldi and so many other places in our country, including the capital, our capital, on January 6, 2021. That was domestic terrorism. We don't have to put up with it. And stop the doom and gloom about 2022. All the talk about the Republicans are automatically gonna retake uh the House and the Senate. We it doesn't it doesn't have to be like that. Wake up! Get over it. We it doesn't have to be like that. We must and we can organize now, educate ourselves, organize ourselves.
