I speak about the call among racists and neo-Nazis for a "National Day of Hate," and about the mainstreaming of racism and anti-Semitism in this country.
Hello, hello, hello, John Mason. How is everybody? To all my Jewish brothers and sisters, I bid you Shabbat Shalom. May you find the rest you deserve on this Shabbat. Alas. The haters, the neo Nazis, the neofascists, the white supremacists. They're not resting. They're still out to destroy us. And all people they deemed inferior. Amazing how they're so terrified of people they think are inferior. Aren't they just so fragile? However, there's word going out among police bulletins that a number of white supremacists and neo Nazi groups are calling for this Saturday, Shabbat, February twenty fifth to be a national day of hate. A time when they're urging the neo-Nazis, anti-Semites and racists to vandalize and deface Jewish institutions. And we're supposed to be afraid of that. It is something to be concerned about. However, we can't let the haters and bullies and neo-Nazis and Klansmen and racists have the day. Ever since it's been going on for a while. And Donald Trump began his political career by say by saying by saying that he wasn't Trump, that Obama really wasn't born in Hawaii, even though Obama kept digging up uh birth records of all kinds to say that he was born in Hawaii. Was born in the USA, as Bruce Springsteen puts it. It's a plot as a the whole idea was to say Obama's not really American. That is to say Obama's not white or Christian. Therefore, he's not really American. And racism, for let's talk about cutting taxes, etc., was one of the bases for organizing the Tea Party movement. And neo-Nazis and white supremacists found that fertile fertile ground for recruiting. So many of these rallies had the most blatantly racist posters up. I remember one call depicting Obama as some sort of witch doctor. I remember Newt Gingrich referring to Obama as a fried chicken president. Again, last year onto stereotypes. And now we have uh Donald Trump in his presidency beginning his presidential run by calling Mexican Mexicans uh going to the board through the border. He called them rapists, murderers, drug dealers, and some he assumed they're good people. Ain't that nice of him? And and later on in the campaign, Trump called for a blanket ban on all Muslims entering this country. In other words, the racists and haters and white supremacists and neo-Nazis were in have crawled out of the woodwork, and they blatant they have blatantly been saying the most ridiculously racist stuff. And has been placed has been placed in the mainstream of our politics and in our government. Examples of this are the Congress things, Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Bobert, constantly ridiculing Ilhan, the Congress colleague Ilhan Omar, for being for being Muslim and having been born in a refugee camp in Somalia, constantly hitting, hinting that she's a terrorist and not and not really American. I believe it was Taylor Green who wanted to prove her, who demanded that Omar prove her loyalty to the country by eating a pulled pork sandwich. That is gross. And we have people going on TV and in classrooms saying the most blatantly racist stuff. And we And they've been getting particularly hysterical over the removal of Confederate monuments and which commemorate traitors who tried to overthrow this government and destroy this country so they can protect their precious slave system. That was the lost cause they were fighting. Don't let them kid yourself. They say hate is all about heritage and not hate. Actually, hate is the heritage. And now we have a lot of attacks have been going up on against uh LGBTQ people, who in the words of the late great civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, were the Canarian coal mine when it comes to fighting fighting for freedom. They use, see a lot of these haters use LGBTQ people as like a to as a way of attacking all minorities and all traditionally excluded groups. And if one isn't safe, nobody's safe. And you don't have to identify with any particular minority group or ethnic group or racial or religious group to be persecuted or prosecuted, whatever, if ever they attain power, God forbid. Just being a decent human being with a mind of your own is enough of a crime for these bastards. And it also shows up in the in the right wing's hysterical war against uh what those that evil thing, critical race theory, which, as I've said for the millionth time, is taught in law schools and not in pre-K. How many times do I have to say the damn thing? Law schools. Okay. And also in in the Rondy Santis' attacks on on the trans kids realizing they were born in the wrong gender and they need to transfer to the other gender. And and the right wing religious fanatics always bring up the scenario of a um of boys going into the girls' restroom and girls boys playing in girls' sports. Or they're not boys anymore, they've transitioned. Okay. And we're drawing the line. That's what the National Day of Hate is about. Not hating not just hating Jews, although that's terrible enough. That is plenty terrible. Me being a Jew, I have a running I have a stake in that. And I also have a stake in in the struggles of all excluded out outgroups. We all have a stake in it. There are our brothers and sisters, our friends, our co-workers, our classmates. So let us make a stand against them. Against the haters and races and anti Semites. We'll stand up to them. If anybody says something blatantly homophobic or racist or anti-Semitic, get in their face and tell them the hell off. That is tell them that is so wrong. Don't do it ever again. In fact, certain certain uh Jewish groups have have called for a Saturday, February twenty-fifth, to be a Havdalah against hate. See the Havdalah is a uh is a ceremony closing Shabbat. And I urge all my non-Jewish friends out there to go to go to a synagogue whenever is a um whenever it's time to close Shabbat and look and watch the beautiful ritual of the Shabbat of the uh Habdalah. In fact, get to know uh the people the people of other groups, other outgroups, other ethnicities, other races, other religions, other genders. Please look look at study them. Befriend them, be among them. Celebrate their holidays, their their successes. Okay, that's it for now. For now, more to come. And now advertisements.
