There is so much wisdom within your body–so much so that it’s truly mind blowing.
When you know how to work with your brain, body, and nervous system you will unlock vast amounts of wisdom and knowledge that will serve you well.
When you know how to access and interpret your own wisdom you can translate it into the valuable feedback that it is and gain critical knowledge. Applied knowledge is power.
More often than not, we misunderstand and thus misinterpret stress. We make it mean something is wrong with us instead of understanding that it is valuable feedback for us.

Hello, welcome to another episode of Dr. Tammy talks. I'm your host, Dr. Tammy Berry today. Our topic is the wisdom within, I love this topic because did you know you are. We all are, there is so much wisdom within this body that it can blow your mind. We have to understand, first of all, that there is wisdom in this body, in this nervous system in this life. Once we acknowledge that this wisdom exists, then we can go to work on how to actually access it and interpret it and use this wisdom, right? This wisdom, this intelligence can then be applied and now it becomes power. Applied knowledge is power. So I want us to just consider this because when I was burning out, which was a process that really actually started, you know, if I'm getting really real and honest, it really did start in my clinical years. Which would be like the third and fourth year of medical school. And I did not have a relationship with my body or my nervous system. We were not partners. And so when I was experiencing of stress response, I overwrote it. I never investigated the thoughts behind it. I never investigated the emotions I was experiencing as any form of intelligence. And I was not partnering with my body or my nervous system in any way. I didn't know how. And so it would then be many, many, many years of me. Mentally driving myself, really using my willpower, which I've got a lot of, let's just call it what it is. Right. I'm stubborn. I can be hardheaded. I'm a person that when I put my mind as something, nothing is going to stop me. God help you? If you get in my way of my mission, right? I have that within me. And I have this incredible battery pack, right? Like my resilience, the resilience, let's just be honest of most physicians, especially surgeons is epic, right? A hundred hour work weeks, extreme conditions, physically exhausting, mentally, emotionally, all of it. And so when I got to the point where I couldn't function anymore, When I got to the point that my pain was so great that I was self-medicating to avoid it altogether. Cuz I had no coping skills for emotional distress. Had no coping skills for challenging my mind. I had no coping skills when it came to navigating or partnering with my body or my nervous system and interpreting this as intelligence. I internalized all of this to mean something had gone wrong with me. It's actually really interesting because in many ways what had gone wrong was that I had abandoned myself. I was so disconnected from the wisdom within me. I had outsourced that wisdom for so many years. I had gone. To the medical establishment, to teachers, to books, to research. Like I had gone everywhere for wisdom, never actually taking the time to go within, to find my own. And I suffered, I suffered with depression with anxiety. That led to addictions, alcoholism, gambling, shopping, I was shaming and blaming myself left and right for having lost my moral compass. It would take me years to go back and realize that a stressed brain is a deceptive brain and when we don't have the skills to work with stress, Both in the brain, in the nervous system, in the body, when we're not partners with our brain, with our body, with our nervous systems, we miss the opportunity to use that stress as wisdom. And when we lose that opportunity, the stress is running the. It will hijack your brain. It will move all of your metabolic resources back into the survival brain, the reptilian structures of the brain. It will make you defensive, offensive, territorial aggressive, and it will make you think you have not enough of anything and everything. You will become a prisoner of yourself. This is where we fall into self-destructive pattern, self sabotaging behaviors, and those all become signs. They all become opportunities for us to recognize a stress response, to recognize that our body, our brain, our nervous system, is communicating something really important to us. We make it mean something about us instead of recognizing this is wisdom for us, there is so much wisdom within you. I want to shout it from the rooftops that we don't need to make stress, anxiety, overwhelm, frustration, anger, resentment, disappointment, depression. Addiction defensiveness aggressiveness. We don't need to make any of that mean anything about us. It can all be a sign or a symptom that we are missing. The link of wisdom and intelligence that these. Are signs of, there is not something that has gone wrong with you. You have a stressed brain doing what a stressed brain does. It will distort your perception of reality. It will tell you awful stories about yourself and other people, and it will make you act like a caged animal and it will lead you to behaviors. That would be characterized as self-destructive and self sabotaging. I'm gonna get honest with you. I was in so much pain that I was taking so much amphetamines to like boost my mood because I didn't want the depression to set in. I was taking so much Adderall. Which is similar to cocaine for anybody that isn't familiar with Adderall it's, basically legal cocaine, um, legal, if it's prescribed to you by a physician that is not yourself. Um, and so I was taking this at such high doses that my heart stopped. I resuscitated myself that is like shocking news, right? Like what, Dr. Tammy? You, yeah, me and it didn't just happen once my friends, I did it twice. And I could not figure out what the hell was wrong. Like I did not identify as suicidal, but my behavior was so glaringly, obviously suicidal in nature. I knew I needed to take a break from work. I knew like things needed to change and Pronto, otherwise I was going to die. For real, for real. And thank God. I knew how to resuscitate myself. I wouldn't be here literally would not be here. And so when I see you struggle, With your stress and your anxiety and your frustration and your anger. When I see that balloon into guilt and shame and regret, I wanna hug you. I love you so much. I want you to know that it is a, not your fault. I want you to know without a shadow of a doubt, that you are not a shitty person, that these shitty things that you're doing. Are the byproducts of a stressed brain doing what a stressed brain does, and we can dismantle all of that. We can learn how to partner with our nervous systems with our body. We can rebalance. The nervous system and the brain, and we can partner with these aspects of ourselves and use this feedback. Use these stress signals that are coming back as exquisite sacred intelligence, because they are your stress response is not an accident. It's here to save your ass. I promise you, there is so much raw energy and power ready to be harvested and harnessed, but we've got to do the work of learning, how to have partnership with ourselves. And when you have partnership with your body, with your nervous system, you're in partnership with you on a fundamental level, this is where self trust self-confidence self love lives, because until your partnered with you, with your body, with your brain, with your nervous system, Until then you are practicing some form of self abandonment and that self abandonment is the most stressful place you could possibly live from. you can't change. Nothing can change from that space. And so my invitation to you is to just decide right now that you are going to partner with your body, with your nervous system, with your brain, that you're gonna start listening, that you're gonna start opening to the idea that there is such intelligent wisdom being conveyed back to you. The nervous system. Isn't an accident, how it functions is not an accident. It's your most exquisite form of guidance system that you have in this life. And if you know how to interpret it and work with it, you have a truly successful life. The nervous system is the first thing to develop in a growing embryo before the heart, before there's a heartbeat, there's a developing nervous system, And we need. The heart and the nervous system. And it is so interesting that part of the nervous system envelopes the heart, there are 40,000 neurons that encompass surround the heart, the muscle of your heart. And when you begin to access that space, When you begin to access the intelligence and the wisdom of your heart and your body and your nervous system, you're accessing the intelligence of life. I fundamentally believe that this is our greatest human power. For developing and cultivating self-awareness. It is through the nervous system. We are homo sapiens, originally homo sapiens sapiens. Homo sapiens means the one who knows. We were originally coined homo sapiens sapiens, which means the one who knows they. Do you know that, you know, do you have this seat of wisdom in your life? Do you have this relationship with yourself where you're safe enough to interpret this wisdom to access this wisdom? It requires so much self-compassion it requires friendship. It requires partnership. And as long as you're willing to throw yourself under the bus, there was an episode, just not that long ago. My gosh, just last week was self talk. Give it a listen, if you haven't because a huge part of our ability to transform this level of awareness into knowledge, which becomes power. Is through befriending our experience because otherwise me do not have access to the level of awareness where freedom lives. My friends, this kind of work is really for people that want truth, if you want truth love, and you know, that truth and love is the power. That will fuel the life success that you want. Then this work is for you. Because when we tap our thoughts and our emotions, we change our actions. We change the results in our lives, regardless of the circumstances, regardless of the situations, it's true. 100% of the time. And we can use our nervous systems as ways of understanding, where do I need to do thought work? Where do I have space here to intentionally understand my thoughts and my emotions and direct them towards what I want. And when do I know to trust this feedback as exquisite, divine, sacred information? About my life. If I am putting myself into situations that are creating anxiety, burnout, aggression, frustration, and overwhelm. If those things keep coming up for me. I want to know that this is wisdom. I want to know that there is deep wisdom here being communicated to me. And the question is, am I willing to listen? Sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I'm totally fine suffering and being miserable. And that just means I need to double down on being my own friend. I need to double down on self talk. I need to get myself to a place where I actually give a shit about myself. And then I can go back to work on trying to interpret this wisdom for what it really is being willing to recognize when I've maybe put myself into a situation that does not serve my best interest, being willing to recognize I'm human and I make mistakes and that's okay. Being willing to be human and recognize that as a human I've been created. Purposely with a nervous system that is here to serve me a brain, a body that is here to flourish and serve me well. And when I'm in partnership, this wisdom becomes power. I wanna see this for you. I can't wait to dive into this further. There is so much here. Ah, oh, there is so much here. There is so much. Goodness. delighted to be on this journey with you. If you've been listening to me for any length of time, you're about to see some amazing things. My friends, there is some really fun stuff happening and you're here for it. It is the sweetest thing. It's a miracle I' alive. There's one. Of you. That you were born to be a powerful creator and that you've been given everything. You need to create a magnificent life. It's in your brain, it's in your body, it's in your nervous system, it's in your heart. This is what we need, and this is what you've got. And if you've got that, you've got everything. You need to create a truly beautiful life that you love living. You've got it. Let's learn how to use it. This is so much fun. This is the best work of my life. This is the best work of your life.
