The Truth About Where Your Real Home Is!

Have you ever walked into a place and realized that you didn't really belong there? Like maybe it was a new job, a new city, a gathering where everyone seemed to know each other except for you. What if I told you that many Christians feel the same exact tension every single day? Not because something is wrong with them, but because the world has never meant to be their permanent home. Well, today we're going to talk about one of the deepest realities of the Christian life. Are we actually at home here? And if we are not, how should we live while we're still here? Welcome to the Intentional Grounding Godcast Letters to Isaiah. I'm your faith strategist coach Dombrowski, and I'm here to help you live out your walk, not just believe it. So our focused verse today comes from one of Paul's most personal letters, and he's speaking about mortality, eternity, and the confidence that believers can have because of Jesus Christ. All right, now to set the scene, Paul was writing to believers in Corinth who lived in a culture filled with wealth, power, pleasure, and worldly distractions. And well, you know, Paul continually reminded them that this life is temporary. All right. The Christian isn't defined by what they see, the Christian is defined by what they know is coming. So listen carefully to these words. Second Corinthians 5, verse 6. Therefore, we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord. Okay. So the word at home, it literally means to reside in one's own country or to be present in a location. Okay. Paul is using physical language to describe our currently earthly existence. And right now, we are living in these physical bodies. Okay. Now, the word away means to be absent from one's homeland. Okay. Paul's basically creating a contrast at home in the body, away from the Lord, not spiritually separated from God, but physically separated from his visible presence. Okay. Now, the Corinthian church, they faced suffering and persecution, uncertainty, death, and a lot of believers they wondered if their hardships meant God had abandoned them. But Paul reminds them that our present circumstances are temporary, right? The body is temporary, heaven is eternal. Now, God never intended this fallen world to be our final destination. Okay. From Genesis to Revelation, God's plan has always been to dwell with his people, right? The story of the scripture begins with God walking with humanity in Eden, right? It ends with God dwelling with his people forever. Right. That's the longing that's being talked about. The longing we feel is evidence that we were created for something more. Now, Paul is not saying here that God is absent from believers. The Holy Spirit lives within every believer. Okay. God is with us, God guides us, comforts us. But one day faith will become sight. One day we won't just know he's near, we will stand in his presence. Okay. Now, ooh, tough subject here. Christians, sometimes we feel homesick, right? Have you ever wondered why success doesn't fully satisfy you? You know, why possessions eventually lose their shine, or why even your best days still leave you wanting something a little bit more. And I think it's because your soul remembers where it belongs. There is a holy homesickness inside of every believer. No vacation, no promotion, no amount of money, like nothing in this world can completely satisfy a heart created for eternity. And as believers, we aren't just citizens of earth, like we are citizens of heaven, right? We have a purpose while we're here. And sometimes we become so focused on heaven that we forget why we're still here. You know, and if God has left you here, He has assigned you here, right? You have people to encourage, you have a testimony to share, you have family members who need to see faith being lived out, right? Coworkers who may never open a Bible, but are watching your life every day. We may not be home yet, but we have work to do before we get there. All right. And in getting there, we have to be able to have confidence, right? Confidence comes from knowing where you're going. Okay, so go back to Paul's first words here. Therefore, we are always confident. He didn't say sometimes or confident, like he said, we're always confident, right? Because Christians know the ending, right? The uncertainty of life does not change the certainty of eternity. A believer's confidence isn't found in circumstances. You, you know, you following, it's found in Christ. So ask yourself like, are you living like this world is your permanent home? Or are you living like somebody who's passing through with an eternal purpose? Because I do believe that there's a difference. You know, one builds only for today, the other one is investing in eternity. All right. And I know that there is somebody out there who feels out of place, right? You may be feeling disconnected or like nobody understands you, or you or you feel like you don't fit in to the world, to to the system, right? Uh that listen, that might not be a sign that something is wrong. It might be evidence that God is growing your appetite for heaven. Okay. So shift the mindset, right? Stop asking, why don't I feel at home here? And start asking, well, how can I honor God while I'm here? Right? Because the goal isn't to get comfortable, the goal is to stay faithful. And we do that by you know, hold the earthly things loosely, okay? Everything here is temporary. Invest in in all of the eternal things, right? People matter forever. And and remember your citizenship, like your ultimate identity is not in your career, it's not in your title, it's not in the cars in your driveway or your achievements. It's your identity in Christ, right? The more that you walk with Christ, the less attached you'll become to the things of this world. Not because that life has no value, but because you'll begin to see life through the lens of eternity. Your priorities, friends, they're going to change, right? Your fears will shrink, your hope will grow. So when the frustrations come up, remember that you are not home yet. You know, when when work becomes stressful or life feels unfair, you're not home yet. Right. But every step you take in faith is one step closer to seeing the savior face to face, right? Paul concluded or continued his thought in in the next verses, uh 2 Corinthians 5 7. And you all know it, for we live by faith, not by sight. And the Christian life, friends, is a journey of trust, right? We don't see heaven yet, we don't see eternity yet, we don't physically see Christ yet, but we continue walking because God has proven himself trustworthy. Amen. The resurrection of Jesus has changed everything. Death is no longer the end, the grave is no longer the destination, right? For the believer, death is not going home for the first time, it's finally arriving where we've always belonged. Okay. The world is going to tell you, make yourself at home. Scripture is saying, hey, remember where home really is, right? A believer's hope is not found in making earth perfect. A believer's home is found in the promise that Christ is preparing a place for us. Oh, it's that warms my heart. Truly, it does. Now, to my grandson Isaiah, one day you're going to grow up and you're going to realize that this world can be beautiful and broken at the same time. You're going to have these victories and disappointments. You're going to have moments of joy, moments of loss. And when those days come, remember your deepest home is not found in a house or a city or a career or even a country. Your true home is with Jesus. Live boldly while you are here. Love people well, serve faithfully. And I know you hear everybody say, like, don't forget where you come from. That may be true, but never forget where you're headed. I love you. Man, could you imagine just, I don't know, staying in a hotel, right? During a long trip. Like you, you appreciate the room, you take care of it, you know, you use it wisely, but you never mistake it for home. That's how believers should view this life. Be grateful for today. Serve faithfully, love deeply today, but never forget your ultimate home is with Christ.
