SPEAKER_01I'm here with Adam, and we're here to do Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Adam, how's it feel to be back continuing the MCU?
SPEAKER_04It feels great. I missed that last time, but you know, it's just it was just Spider-Man. It's amazing, Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_01We wea don't disrespect Andrew Garfield like that. Listen, he amazing Spider-Man for a reason, right? That must mean it's amazing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, uh tell that to the critics.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I'm the critic. I'm the critic. Just as a catch-up, Adam, what would you give Amazing Spider-Man one and two on a score from one to ten? Separate, separate rings. Uh separate ratings.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01One, eight, uh, two, six. Dang, you're more generous than I was. I think I gave the first one a seven. I think usually.
SPEAKER_04So I like Andrew Garfield at Spider-Man. He is a really good Spider-Man. I have never had a problem with him as the actor at Spider-Man. Just that writing, man. That writing is uh I know. The characters are great, though. The characters are great. It's just that writing.
SPEAKER_01I heavily praised the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, as you should, as you should. She was way better than goddamn Christian Dunce, man. I man, rewatching this little Spider-Man really did not make me like her anymore. Like God, she was just so awful in those movies.
SPEAKER_01No chemistry whatsoever. We even talked about it. We talked about how cringy it was. Like oh god.
SPEAKER_04Like all the time. Let's not rehash previous episodes. Exactly. But we watched that episode, you can hear us complain about it.
SPEAKER_01Yes, hear us complain about the the chemistry between Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in our OG Spider-Man trilogy review. And if you want to hear about awesome chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Amazone, go check out my amazing Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_04It's it's sad, really. Amazing the original Spider-Man trilogy, uh awful chemistry character and like awful characters. Really good writing. Really good writing. Amazing Spider-Man, great characters in chemistry, awful, awful story writing.
SPEAKER_01Specifically the second one writing one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that second one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that one was but it has a better suit and a better theme song, so I can't complain.
SPEAKER_04I have to disagree. I don't like the suit. I like it better than the second game movie.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying. The second one is is worse writing, but it has a better suit than the first movie.
SPEAKER_04No, no, no, no. I don't no no no. I'm talking about like compared to Toby's suit, I like Toby's suit more than Andrew's suit.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I was just comparing the first uh the two Amazing Spider-Man suits we got. And also Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit, but is it's the best Spider-Man suit. Hands down. I really don't like I guess maybe hands down.
SPEAKER_04It's getting tired.
SPEAKER_01People even complained about Toby's suit when they first came out. They didn't like the eyes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit is literal perfection. God made it himself. He said, let's give him those big white eyes. Anyways, you know what? Check out those episodes if you haven't already. We're here to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Again, we've talked about the first one. Go check that one out. We loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. This one, can they catch that lightning in the bottle again? Can they? Because let's be honest, Adam. No one thought the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was gonna be anything. Anything. Yeah. I didn't even know it was in the MCU until like three years later. I didn't watch it at all. I was just like, oh, I'm really into Age of Ultron. And they're like, oh, by the way, Thanos is in the first Guardian. So I'm like, what the heck is that? I watched it and I'm like, this is great. Genuinely great. Genuinely great. Three years later, we ended up getting the volume. Oh, the volume. Volume two of the movie. Um before we get into it though, Adam, these people need to make sure that they're following us over on Instagram at Reven and GoPod for a bunch of fun posts. Mine and Adam's quick movie reviews every month, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Friday. My bad. Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday. Sunday, Wednesday, Friday. Sunday, Wednesday, Friday. Oh, we're going places. We are surely slowly going places. Yeah. Okay, Adam. Yeah. With that all out of the way, let's talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. What you think about it?
SPEAKER_04I loved it. It is such it's just you get more of these characters. We get new characters added. We just see it's just a lot, all these characters get so like a lot of good development, too. Um we get we get to see Baby Groot, who is just adorable. And I'm glad we're not rehash, and I'm really glad they didn't rehash some of the like all the old story beats of the last movie. You know, you know, because I hate when they do that where they regress for some reason.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I hate that a lot. They don't do that in this movie, and as a matter of fact, they're like, you know what? They do a bit of a time jump, and these people are not just like growing as characters, but they're growing together, and they feel way more like a like a family than anything. And it's just it's just amazing. Like the banter with them, it's all there. They kind of know each other already as a family would.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like we this really feels like this is like they have like the they have progressed further as a team, as now they're like officially like a family. Like you get to see it in every little even in like the little details, like just how they interact with each other. Like, there's like a like the there's them lecturing Groot about something, or Groot, don't do that, or or getting used to um or Drax being like the cool uncle of the group, you know, and then Rocket being a dick.
SPEAKER_01You know, everybody has that family member. Everybody has that family member. Um, yeah, and like you you get that like at the very beginning of the movie, too, with that opening fight where I I know they have a real name for it. I don't remember the name. If you do great, but the giant octopus monster thing.
SPEAKER_04Oh I don't know. I I don't it the some space thing, it's some space a octopus thing, man.
SPEAKER_01Keep talking, Adam. I'm gonna Google it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't know. All I remember is the goal people said to hire them to protect their batteries because the monsters eat are trying to eat them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the harbolary batteries.
SPEAKER_04The harbellary.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you even get it right then and there with the the banter that they do. And on top of that, it's a hell of an intro where we the bat the fighting is in the background, and we're just following along, baby Groot dancing.
SPEAKER_04It's so it's so these characters you just get you're getting more of the characters you love. You're not just and you're not just watching them doing the same shit, it's you're actually seeing them grow. You get to see more of their characters and just seeing how they act. It makes you want to see like a whole like I would love a whole Guardians of the Galaxy sitcom, like a family sitcom with them.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and this is really like the only franchise that feels very like it's like family oriented in a sense, you know?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now granted, this is the only real like I mean, now we have Fantastic Four, so maybe we'll get more of that in the future. But this is we're literally seeing these people go from strangers to friends. So they they end up being family throughout this movie, and it's like really more solidified by the end of it. By the way, the monster at the beginning of the movie is called an abelisk.
SPEAKER_03Abelisk, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Alright, um, yeah, I mean, kind of whatever. I mean, it's it's not that big of a deal to know what that monster was. I know. I just wanted to wanted to get that out there.
SPEAKER_01I know. Um, again, no surprise. The soundtrack in the first movie was great. The soundtrack somehow is dare I say better. You know, I take it back. It is better than the first movie.
SPEAKER_04I can't, I don't know. I love it. Don't get me wrong. I love this fucking soundtrack. Uh James Gunn knows good music. Let's just say that. He knows great music. I will tell I prefer the first one a little, just a smidge more. Smidge more. I just a tiny bit more.
SPEAKER_01That's all honestly fair.
SPEAKER_04I it's just a I'd probably that's just preference of music, too. It's just a preference of music. But like still, uh I I still loved it. Like, this movie is just like it fires on all cylinders. You're getting more not just more, but better too.
SPEAKER_03It's a lot of great things.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And on top of like growing with the with our team slash family, we also get introduced to some, not necessarily introduced to some new characters, but we're like, we got Sylvester Stallone here. Yeah. Oh, okay. And that immediately is into again, not just knowing more about our family, but that our family, our guardians of the galaxy, but or also Yondu. Because Yondu goes from being like one of the bads in the last movie. Like one of the smaller bads, because he's not really a big bad or whatever. And then the movie in this movie is just like, okay, here's Yondu, and from the get-go, it's like, here's way more of him. From just the way, because his the his opening scene that we have with him is him. I mean, he's at a certain spot with robot women. That's all I'll say. And he's just like looking out into the distance through the window, kind of like like I'd say sick of himself, like not happy with where he is. And again, he's still with the crew and everybody like that. And again, we get stuff early on in this movie with his crew is kind of not on his side, they're kind of second-guessing him, not to his face right now, but they're like talking amongst themselves. And uh it's cool to see some of those characters you know, be like, yeah, you're right. And then other characters like James Gunn's brother, um, defending the captain. Like, okay, okay, we got loyalty in here, it's not everybody.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, it's cool to see more of Yondu. Yon and Michael Rooker is a great actor, so you know. Please glad to see more of him.
SPEAKER_01Another character we're introduced to is Mantis. Mantis is a fun character, and I'm glad the characters in this movie that are introduced aren't they like, okay, cool, we got someone crazy like Sylvester Stallone. This is kind of like a here's more character to Yondu. Here's a new character in that of Mantis. And they none of them are like none of them feel out of place in a sense. Like everybody here that's introduced is introduced with a purpose. Yeah. And one of them is one Mantis, and the other one is Kurt Russell, who plays Ego, aka Peter's dad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Ego, the living planet, is Kurt Russell. I love Kurt Russell. Kurt Russell rules, man.
SPEAKER_01I know we're not gonna talk about it right now, but we will in the future. Um, if you haven't seen Leg uh was it Monarch, Legacy of Monsters, Kurt Russell, oh I haven't seen that yet, and his son play it. They do a damn good job in that movie. Yeah, in the show, in the show, in the show. I'm not crazy about the show. I'm not personally I'm not crazy about the show, parts of the storyline. Um, but you guys can actually catch my review of the show in an earlier episode that I've done before on the pod. So go make sure you check that out. Um, yeah, I talk about three shows. I think I talk about ballers, suits, and monarch Legacy of Monsters. Go check that out. I think season two is out like right now. So once it's all out, maybe Adam and I will do a review of it in the future. Yeah. Go check that episode out. But yes, we got Kurt Russell in here. Dude, the dude is just one, yes, he's a great actor. One, he does pretty good projects, and he's just so charismatic in this role. Because he has to be that, like, yes, I'm your dad, and I kind of have to have your like he has to have the charisma that he's like.
SPEAKER_04He plays like the perfect dad. Exactly, yeah. He plays the perfect dad. Like, you know, the dream dad, especially for someone like Quill who never knew their dad or never had a dad. You know, he's just like that like he's just that that guy you wish you you do you knew. Like he oh um it's very similar to how he played Santa Claus, ironically. Yeah, in that what was it? I forgot, I forgot that his Christmas movie he where he played Santa Claus.
SPEAKER_03But yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but he be he's really good in this role. Um, like you said, he has to be that perfect dad. He I think even early on, they kind of again, there's a sense of family between uh within our Guardians of the Galaxy, and I should just call them guardians, whatever. And they're talking about family and what they want, and part of it is like Peter kind of like there's a family dynamic to everyone. Peter and um Gamora are obviously like the mom and the dad, and then there's like there's Groot, who's the child, so there's already that family dynamic. And like you said, Peter's never had a dad, so the first um, I guess, sign of or the first sign of him having being able to have a dad once uh Kurt or Ego shows up, and yeah, he's hesitant about it all, but Gamora's the one who kind of pushes him. Like, hey, you've been talking about like there's a story he she tells he tells Gamora that as a kid I used to tell people that my dad was uh hassle hoff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, I mean if you had to choose a dad, I mean that's not the worst choice.
SPEAKER_01I know he he saved he helped uh save the bikini bottom in the sp in the Spongebob movie. So Yeah, and friend of Spongebob is a cool guy to mean exactly, and she lets him know like hey, this could be your hassle hoff if you just give him the chance. And that's the that's that that's the confidence, or not the confidence, but that's what Peter needs to hear in order to be like, okay, I'll give um this ego dude a chance or whatever. And for the most part, they have a really good father-to-son relationship. Again, ego oozes that charisma that even Peter has, or that Chris Pratt has, really oozes it, really makes it seem seamless. And he again, he does a really good uh job at uh explaining why he was never around in Peter's life. Really good job at it, very believable.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like honestly, like he he he really sucks you in. You really you you're you actually get be so you're actually happy for him for him and um uh and Peter and you're it would it kind of actually even help sets up this sort of like um sets up the sort of surprise, you know, at the end of it, which uh it kind of misdirects you about the villain of the movie.
SPEAKER_01And I think a huge part of like this character being able to misdirect us is that we also like we want it for Peter, we want him to have that relationship. We like he finally has his dad, he can finally have it. We want him to be happy, and because like if if he's happy, we're happy. Like we love seeing this moment. Yeah, so it's interesting to see like this dynamic between them two, but like you don't they don't really talk, but you could kind of see it in Mantis's like the way she's um acting when she walks. Because she has this like almost when she's walking around ego, she has she walks as if like with her head down. Yeah, and you could usually confuse it with like fear. Um, like I mean, I don't know why you wouldn't, like a like no surprise that it would be out of fear, because you're he's a celesti oh ego lets us know that he's a celestial, and so she's like I'm just um I'm just a regular alien mantis thing, yeah, and I'm here with a literal god, right?
SPEAKER_04So there's gonna be that it could, yeah, it could be yeah, like because you can interpret it like when he says he's a celestial, you you can interpret it as like it's just her like showing respect to like a higher being. Yeah, because uh yeah, essentially ego is a god who's like lived forever and has all like he's basically destructible, you know. He's but yeah, he's basically a god, and you know, like so you're like, okay, yeah, that's what this is, and you just walk along with it.
SPEAKER_01Also, also, you could add you could also I think you can interpret it like this in hindsight because knowing what ego is hiding, you can think of it as okay, Mantis is like more so nervous for the people here because she knows what ego really wants. So she could be like, Oh gosh, like I'm just gonna keep my head down and just play along with this because I already know where this is going. Yeah. And it's kind of been a thing already in the movie. Like, we're we're pretty early in the movie, but I gotta say, I love this one just as much as the last one. The only thing is I feel like the jokes in this movie are a lot I mean a lot more hit and miss for me. I don't know if that's the way for you, but some of the jokes in here are just like not funny. Almost like uh lazy, childish lazy in a sense.
SPEAKER_04How do I Okay, so for me, it it's yeah, I will say how do I say this? It's uh it it I would agree it's a little hit and miss for me. I like the jokes a little I think I I I think I like the jokes a little bit more for but honestly for me I think the jokes like I think the jokes that hit hit hard I think there's more funnier jokes in this movie, if that makes sense, but like it does have like a lot more misses, you know. The jokes that do land, I think, are bigger than the last ones, you know. Like I I laughed a lot because I laughed harder in this movie than I did in um the first Guardians, you know.
SPEAKER_01I think a big part of that. Like he has some like it's more it's weird. His comedy in the first one is so different than the way he is in this in this one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's a lot more subtle.
SPEAKER_01So I feel like Drax is a big part of that. But like like some jokes between, or like kind of more so black banter between uh Peter and uh Rocket, you know, when they're like trying to evade all the people through like the asteroid belt or whatever, and they're they're the whole joke is literally just like I'm gonna put a turd in your pillow. Like that whole conversation throughout that whole thing is leading up to that one, like I'm gonna put something in your pillow, and it's gonna be a turd, not my turd, Drax's, and then Drax is like, yeah, I'm known for big turds, and I'm just like, oh, that's not that's not funny. That's not funny. Yes, like I may have um laughed when I first watched it. Actually, you know what I just remembered, Adam. Yeah, we saw this movie together. Oh, that's right. We we watched it in theaters together, didn't we? Yeah, it was me, you, Kikan, and your I believe it was your grandpa too.
SPEAKER_03Was he with us?
SPEAKER_01I think oh I think it's because I think it's because we both went, not like we weren't like, hey, let's go together. We went and we saw each other there.
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's right. We ran into that's what happened. We were just like, we were my sister was there too, then. Yeah. My little sister was there. Because like I remember I I was like, hey, I was gonna take us all out uh because I was gonna take us all out to go see that movie, because I really wanted to see it, and then you just had you and Keekong would just happen to be there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And this is before um the movie theater was like, or at least our local movie theater was like, um, you have to like it was it was before assigned seating, right? So you could just sit wherever you want. So we were just like, hey, let's just sit together.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I think I mean to be fair, like they really don't enforce that assigned seating. You just unless it's like packed, you know.
SPEAKER_01I would have I it it doesn't bug me unless you're sitting in my seat. Yeah. But it was pretty packed. We had to sit towards the front. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. In those shitty seats. Luckily they got new ones. That doesn't matter. But um, yeah, I feel like the jokes are just I I I think I'd agree with you that the jokes. that really really land in this one land they're like bigger and funnier than they were in the first one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But the jokes but that's like there's less so of those and more and there's like there's also the all these jokes that just either don't hit the more you watch this movie like on on repeat or I don't find funny at all.
SPEAKER_04Yeah I think there's just uh there's just a few more misses in this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Although I think the jokes that do land are l are funnier than the ones that do I I see that.
SPEAKER_01Um speaking of one of the jokes that just doesn't uh land for me and it they go back to it a lot and that's Taserface. I get that the whole joke is he is one of the most obscurest of characters and it's a it's a horrible name that everybody makes fun of. It just does not work for me anymore. Like it I again it just feels lazy like what's the joke his name not just not for me. It's I now don't find the taser face taser face joke funny. It might have been funny the first time I watched the movie but every time after that it one it's not funny and then some people's like jokes in the movie just feel so forced like hey just to let you guys know that this is the joke this is like they're telling you hey this is the joke and I'm just sick of it at this point on I'm to be completely honest with you guys. Yeah so this yeah wasn't this like post uh age of Ultron uh I'm gonna say yes because I don't think we've talked about age of ultron yet wait because it yeah we did this is yeah age of ultron is 2014 14 or 15 I believe but this is yeah 2017 yeah that's way after actually uh yeah like after like because I don't know what it is but after age of Ultron like you know like that's when like Marvel really starts leaning into quips and like jokes because if it's not like do anything with the characters it's just they're just making quips all day yeah for better or for worse and like this is this is where like you you start to feel it in this movie too you know like uh there's just yeah there's a certain time there's a certain time where I'm just like yeah roll my eyes yeah did in the first movie which is like there's there's there was a few scenes in the first movie where it's just like them bickering between each other and there's some of that in this movie and again some of that feels okay and the other ones just feel very forced or not not forced but just the whole point of them bickering is to lead to the joke and for the most part the joke just doesn't hit and I think that's my biggest problem with this movie. I still love this movie but that's my biggest problem with the movie. Um what did you feel about the whole uh taser face stuff because that's the one joke I am just sick of that's why I rewatch I don't rewatch this movie as often uh yeah I will say like you're right there's that joke doesn't land and there are some jokes that just like what like don't work the second time around like I mean they're passable like you know on the first watch.
SPEAKER_04Yeah but um but yeah but like honestly they'd probably get annoying after the third or second or third watching which sucks because everything else in this movie is so good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah this movie I like I said I love this movie but it's one of those movies where like I love it but there's something in this movie that keeps me from rewatching it less than I'd like to because like I I would love to read the rewatch this movie way more often but it's it's it's the comedy that doesn't really land and I'm just kind of over the the taser face joke that keep me from watching it more from yeah from watching it more and there's other movies like that like uh Godzilla King of the monsters the 20 oh I think funny enough 2017 2019 2019 2019 I love everything that's Godzilla and all the giant kaijus I listened to our review of it we've done it over here so check that out our Monsterverse episode where I did it with uh Nova actually Adam we you and I should revisit those movies because you did not get to do those yeah yeah then uh which is funny because I'm actually a huge Godzilla fan yeah maybe you know what we will revisit those one of these days but yeah I love all the Godzilla kaiju stuff I don't I can't stand I can't stand the human stuff we won't get into it actually if you want me to if you want to hear me go off on about it go check out that episode ironically it's the same thing that's that's so common of like monster movies and stuff like that though like honestly like I know but I think like that one specifically is like horrible the human stuff like yeah it's just horrible horribly written um so bad yeah um something that we saw on the trailer and I th it was really cool to finally see is Yandu's new fin because yeah dude I dig it that whole scene where he finally gets his fin back and he's freaking just tearing up all the Ravagers that betrayed him it's awesome and we talked about so Yondu isn't a a new character but they're giving us more stuff with him right now right more character stuff so we also said that this is the movie really like does a really good job at um developing these characters and we mentioned that there's just like this family dynamic between our guardians there's the the parents there's Groot being the baby there's uh Drax being that fun uncle and then there's that one family member that's just a dick for no reason that's Rocket right so for the good chunk of this movie Rocket's an asshole to pretty much everybody but Groot you know rightfully so you you're not allowed to be and it isn't until we get a a pairing I didn't know we were gonna get that was Yondu and Rocket where Rocket is an asshole Yondu cares for no one nothing but himself put them in a scene together and what do you get you get quite possibly the second greatest scene in the entire movie just them bearing their souls to each other and it was just like it was such a great character growth for both of them without really like admitting to deeper feelings it's just yeah it it doesn't compromise their like kind of like standoffish like demeanor or they're you know like they're more like I because you know they're they're learners they're both kind of like you know they they like to be alone they're like they're the same which is what Yandu's telling him that you and I are the same you're a dick you don't let people get close to you because of XYZ You're I know you because you're me. It hits so hard and again they still have that barrier up and not letting them really feel because we we know or we now know that there is something or someone that Yondu cares more about than himself. We'll get into that we'll get into that in a bit and it it it has to happen in some in most movies where they're like yes we want you to be with your family and then but like that family member kind of goes off starts doing what they were told and then now they're kind of mean to their old family.
SPEAKER_04That's what happens with Peter and ego they tell Gamora tells him go see him this could be your hassle hoff so Peter does that and of course to no surprise with ego trying to be the perfect dad they get along and he's just like okay he's kind of pushing off his his family family yeah and he's getting too uh I really like the scene where they like ego's trying to shoot like because like ego like was trying to see if he's like half celestial too and then like they're trying to like he's trying to show Peter how to use his powers yeah and they're and they literally like just Peter ends up making a ball and then like they ended up playing catch with each other. I thought that was a nice catch.
SPEAKER_01I was like okay and it's they're literally tossing them all together. That was fun and it's also was like you know Peter not thinking he can do it and then he does it and then to be that like really supportive dad ego is just like you got it so you can do it. Super suppor again it's just feeding into what Peter wants out of this relationship. Yeah all while ego is in the back of his mind like oh I got you right where I want you and they're having a conversation about actually later on ego pretty much shows him like hey let me show you what I see and he you see that scene where really cool scene where uh Peter's eyes turn into like the the galaxy or whatever and he's just seeing everything and I'm assuming everything from Ego's point of view right because ego's everywhere at this point because he's spreading his seed yeah spreading his seed across the galaxy and and ego is kind of like having a heart to heart with him he's like letting him know like yep this is what I want this is what we can do we can do this and that's why I had to stop seeing your mother because I was stopped it was like keeping me from doing what I have to do and all that stuff. So and he oh my gosh I this scene oh man oh man he says and it killed me to have to put that tumor in your mother and we get this like dolly zoom into Peter as the galaxy like fades away from his eyes as like he's in this in this trance and we slowly see him come out of it and he just and it's like right on his face we're super zoomed in and he he just he just hits us with the what did you say and then ego's just like oh well you know it's because and before he even gets to finish again this we don't know it now but we know that this is this is Peter's character without hesitation emotions run wild and he just pulls out his they're not guns but whatever his laser guns are and just starts firing we can call them gun yeah he just blasts the crap out of ego nonstop and just unloads and we're just like oh oh my gosh and obviously ego is like what what what are you doing and he's slowly trying to transfer because he doesn't really have a skeleton it's it's what do you what would you even call it that blue like energy or whatever that you see it's like it's yeah it's like it's it's weirdly like a uh it's like kind of like a energy skeleton energy structure basically yeah it looked really cool it looked really cool and as he's forming he's telling uh Peter like after all I've been doing I've tried to find the body that most suited you and as he's saying this he transforms into Hasselhoff we gotta fuck with him we got a fucking hassle hoff cameo it's that was funny insane dude oh my gosh the fact that he came in just for that is absolutely it's great it's it's honestly great I absolutely love it and that leads to a big old fight you know ego telling him like I just did what I had to do and he goes I don't care you killed my mother and he's pissed pissed remember the emotion remember the way Peter acted when we eventually get to infinity okay guys okay guys it's gonna be fun to get into that one but yeah they start fighting and they realize oh the only way we can really kill him is we gotta blow up his brain and his brain is the center of the world because he is the world he's the planet and they're not small enough to fit through these holes to get to the brain. And Peter goes well and they pan down and Rocket says that's a terrible idea and what Peter's insinuating is like we send Groot because Groot's like the size of a palm we send him down there and he'll go do it and so we have to have this convers Rocket has this conversation with Groot like okay you go down there press this press this you run and you get the what I call the I am Groot scene and he goes I am Groot I am Groot I am Groot I am Groot I am Groot no that's that's no that's not what you press I told you to press the other one so then he goes I am Groot I am Groot I am Groot how no that's the same button that's literally just the same button that I told you not to not to press how is that even possible hilarious that was hilarious joke honestly might be the best joke in the entire MCU oh my gosh and it's like I I I all he's saying is I am good but uh but I understand you it's like weirdly you can actually almost understand him just by the infliction he's saying yeah just uh I am Groot I am Groot I am Groot he sounds so sure of himself every time and it oh it just proved that Groot has no idea what the heck's going on he really doesn't he does not and so earlier I mentioned that the banter between the team it was good in the first movie because it leads to a joke and it hits. The second time in the in this second movie they have this bickering bantering argument they lead to a joke and it doesn't hit here when Rocket's asking for tape and we again we get this long scene of just Peter in the background talking to Gamora looking for tape and all that stuff it lands so it's possible for jokes to land it's just like this one had more this it's the fact that I don't know maybe it's just because the last joke when they were doing this was just like about poop that I just didn't find funny. But this time it this time I did so you know yes to the comedy and these two scenes are like back to back so it's like you're laughing and you're laughing again back to back it's it's absolutely great.
SPEAKER_04Yeah it's it just ironically like I said before it's an awful lot like sitcom writing where like some jokes land some jokes don't maybe uh the fun you know like the you know like I mean I'm sure there's sitcoms you like and like but there's just some episodes that aren't just aren't as funny. And like probably because there's like a thousand writers on this thing.
SPEAKER_01Oh actually there are three writers James Gunn no surprise Dan Abnett and this guy is Andy Lanning heyo we got an Andy but yeah so who knows maybe Andy the Andy guy was the funny one and he he wrote all the funny jokes. From what I hear Andy's are the fun ones from what I hear you know just whatever not from my experience but whatever that's just me I hope you guys are all enjoying Adam's last episode on the pod I knew this did him and technically all you've been doing is volunteering so no severance do I at least get my gift card for JCPenney that was promised. JC Penny's still a thing there's still one in Selma yeah you're right um so yeah we finally get oh we didn't even mention these guys that um these I don't know what they're called again but these gold people oh they uh let's let's mention we gotta we gotta backtrack and say this real quick so the guardians were hired by these gold people yeah hired by these gold people I'll get the names eventually who cares who really cares but uh hired by these gold people to protect these uh I'm gonna butcher the name just to get just to say it wrong because I like to say it wrong the Harbellary batteries the Annux bat Annuax batteries that's what they're called I knew it I knew it was like a something anyways to defend the batteries because this giant monster is coming for them and they defend it and they leave and then all of a sudden they're being chased by them why because Rocket stole the batteries and that's what leads to us eventually running into ego okay well these gold people found them again so now not only are the guardians of the freaking galaxy trying to take out ego but now they have this swarm of gold people in their fighting machine what happened they're called the sovereign oh gold sovereign people I do mean they're like caked in gold guys they're like that's the skin color look pretty cool yeah they're also coming after them too now that's where we're at huge fighting inside of ego oh we didn't even we we don't even mention these for these for these mcu movies because we just assume they're great let's talk about these vfx super good yo yeah I don't know how Jane Gunn like gets gets the good effect artist on this but like he he gets the good cgi guys I wonder if it's mainly just like the MCU being like these are our guys like this is the company we're using for every movie. It it definitely sounded like them really awesome fight scene and it was just absolutely cool when we got even Yondu uh coming in for the save and we get that legendary pan around the entire team through all the rubble all the smoke and we get Groot telling Yondu I am Groot which translates to he's he says he said welcome to the guardian or the freaking guardians of the galaxy only he didn't say freaking funny funny again it the the comedy's hitting now the final fight is great they managed to to take out all the sovereign they managed to to kill ego planets planets dying people are going and then we get this scene we get this scene everybody has a space suit in order to be able to breathe in space their short one yandu has a jetpack he flies peter out into space so that way because the the the whole world is collapsing in on itself gives Peter the suit and we're getting this oh my d so it's so fucking sad and we so Yondu tells him he may have been your father but he wasn't your daddy and Peter through the suit is trying is like screaming like no no like he's heartbroken because Yondu's sacrificing himself for Peter it's oh my I can feel it now in my heart and it's hurting you know that that's such a line like it's it's not like a unique line like you get a like you get it a lot but to get it from a character who across two movies we know all or all he portrays is all I care about is what I want. I don't care about no one else nothing else but myself and to slowly kind of find out that that's not true early on in the movie and then to like he doesn't say it he sh he he legit shows us by sacrificing himself again in in in in the midst of space where Yondu is slowly like I don't know what you call it that he freezes to death or whatever because you know cold vacuum hand on P hand on Peter's face he may have been your father and it's like with this dying breath too you know you can see you can hear the voice in him the air leaving his body may have been he may have been your father but he wasn't your daddy and again Peter's shout out shout out to Chris Pratt because Yeah. Oh he's great. He nailed that scene. He can be the funny dude, he can be the action, he can be Quippy, but when he needs to turn it on, for the scene that demands it, he summons it and he absolutely kills it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he does. These are great actors.
SPEAKER_01The line that Yandu says is great. Like it's it's a killer line. To seeing his essentially his dad pass away in front of him because he's sacrificing himself for you, dude.
SPEAKER_03Chris Pratt.
SPEAKER_01Damn. And I just finished watching Parks and Rec. Love Parks and Rec. Love Parks and Rec. Such a good show. Gotta love Ron Swanson. It's wild because at some point you just notice that Chris Pratt lost a bunch of weight. And to like kind of like they're like, huh, you looks like you lost weight. He's like, I just cut out beer and everything, and that's pretty much it. Because like they still haven't wear baggy clothes, so you know he's not shredded.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01My goodness. And we get this beautiful like funeral thing for Yondu with all the Ravagers showing up and fireworks are blowing up. And again, Peter is just no jokes. It's just like the last words he has for him before he they do the Ravager funeral and all that stuff. Not knowing what you had until it was right next while it was right next to you, or something like that. It's a beautiful line, dude. Absolutely beautiful. And then again, we get this, like the movie's ending, and we get a gift from Yondu to Peter, and it was I don't know what the thing is called again, but he basically gives him like an airpod, an uh an iPod. Not really an iPod. I forget what it's called though.
SPEAKER_04No, he gave him a zoom. A zoom. Okay. Which was um, which was like I think it was Microsoft's uh, you know, like attempt to, you know, counter the iPod.
SPEAKER_03It's basically an off-brad iPod. I'm gonna Google Microsoft Zoom. Oh that's not gonna be Oh I see it! I found it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01There's no way I can still buy one. Yeah, it was I found one on eBay on eBay, on Amazon Prime, or just Amazon really, for eight hundred dollars. That's crazy. Wow.
SPEAKER_03Tech collectors are crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But um it gives him this.
SPEAKER_01What the one second, I'm gonna A song starts playing, and you get this really sweet moment between Groot and Peter, where Peter just picks him up and he's like, that's his kid. Like I said, we there's this family dynamic. Groot being the baby of the family, with Peter and Gamora being the parents. That's it right there. That that's further proof.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's a beautiful moment, like we're watching the family mourn. Yeah. The song is called Ugh doesn't want to Why do these pictures have to be so sweet?
SPEAKER_01Father and son. Huh. Should have known it. Really nice song. Really, really nice nice way, sweet way for this movie to end. Like it's not like here's the joke. Here's not an upbeat song.
SPEAKER_03It's like here's the family.
SPEAKER_01And we get a we get many post-credit scenes, but the one that's obviously the the big one is uh the sovereign are like oh my word. Ruing. Oh, that thing you created is coming up. What do we call it? And she goes, I think I'll call it Adam. Cut the black.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's my name. Yep, there's my name drop. There you go.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, uh fortunately that doesn't pay off till Guardians of Galaxy 3.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And Boyd does it. Oh, I can't wait to get eventually get to that movie. Can't wait. Also, I also am glad we're waiting because that movie wrecked me. Um, but yeah, that was Guardians of Galaxy Volume 2.
SPEAKER_04Would you say that we're gonna have to talk about the Christmas special? I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01Ooh.
SPEAKER_04Are we gonna have to talk about the Christmas, the Guardians of Galaxy Christmas special? Because it does have like plot relevance uh, you know, it's it's not just a throwaway thing. They do have like they bring up something important.
SPEAKER_01We'll see. Even the what's that they didn't like a I am groot show, no? Was it just like a bunch of shorts of him?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. There's there's that one. I remember that too. Yeah, but that okay, those are just throwaway gags. You know, it's just Groot goofing off.
SPEAKER_01Like you know what? We might. We just might. Um, but yeah, that was Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. All in all, Adam. Damn good movie.
SPEAKER_03Damn good movie.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember. I really don't remember what I gave the first one, but what um what are your like overall thoughts on this movie?
SPEAKER_04Oh, this movie has great character, it's just more great care more of the characters being great. We didn't even get to talk about Neb. We didn't even really talk about Nebula the fact that she's in this like bonding with uh Gamora, which which is great, which builds up uh which builds their character up. So like no one and no one felt like ironically, no one felt useless because they did this really cool thing where they had characters pair up, besides Groot, but you know, that's because Groot's a bit the baby. But like he they had all the characters pair up with somebody to sort of like bounce off of. Like like you said, we got Rocket and uh so like no one felt like in the background, like they were doing stuff on their own end, either growing or learning or stuff like that. Yeah, and yeah, like yeah, like we got mantising uh Drax like bonding, you know, which was you know good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're right. We didn't yeah, you're right. We mentioned freaking nebula. But again, it's not just like a okay, yeah, here's a character from the first movie, but also yeah, here's so much more with the character. Really, really honestly, really cool of the movie to do.
SPEAKER_04It's just the movie just this is the perfect sequel where it just gives you more what you want from it. It does what the it has everything you love about the first one and more, which is fantastic, and more growth.
SPEAKER_03The characters, and now you're you're excited to see where they go from here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Honestly, super, super well. Super well. This again, this is just like, hey, by the way, yes, they're a family now because they've been together for so long post-the first movie. That and like, yes, family they go through stuff, like, and everybody goes through something in this movie, and but by the end of it, they're back stronger together because they like realize things about themselves and about each other. So, you know, really, really good. Really good, really good uh way to develop their their family, really. Well, honestly. Um, with that said though, Adam, what would you give Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 on a scale from 1 to 10?
SPEAKER_04I gotta give it a 9, man. This is a great movie.
SPEAKER_01I believe I might have given the first one, I don't remember. I mean, well, I'll go back and find it. We'll talk about it in the future. But I'm gonna give this one a 8. A solid 8. If I had to give it like a point, I'd probably give like an 8.5, but it's in the eighths for me. 8 out of 10. Like I said, it I I feel like a big part of it is the the comedy for me. Yeah. Like again, it's not to the point where like I don't want to watch it because of the comedy. It's just like it's not like compared to Godzilla King of the Monsters, like, I deadass don't want to watch that movie because of all the humans, right? This isn't like I won't watch this because of the comedy, it's just something that's like I hold against it.
SPEAKER_04It's just a I I don't mind the comedy as much, so I guess that's why I score it higher.
SPEAKER_01See, that's fair. See, and I I think you're absolutely right. It takes everything that was great from the first movie, from the characters, and doesn't nerf them.
SPEAKER_04It literally doesn't backtrack them either. They don't regret to like the same old patterns. These are like like the characters you uh meet here are the the ones you are like are like the ones from the end, you know, like they they grow as characters and they continue to grow, and which is great.
SPEAKER_01And we can tell from the beginning of the movie that they grew more, and then by the end of it, they grow a lot more. So that it that is great. And I don't I can't even say like the comedy from the first movie was like fully like joke, joke, joke, joke, joke. This one probably has like the same amount of jokes spaced out, but more of them just aren't that great. Plus, there's some like what did you think of Ego as a villain?
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, I thought he was good. I thought he was good. Not like I wouldn't say he's like low-key good, but like he was a solid villain. At least he wasn't like at least he wasn't uh Batman. He's not like like Ronin or like Ronan, like forgettable or Khaleesi's or you know, like Ronin was a bit like a bland villain. He's not bland at the very least. He's very entertaining, he's fun to watch. Kurt Russell does a great job. So, you know, I think he's at least a solid villain.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Very solid. Um, still gonna be an 8 out of 10 for me. 9 out of 10 from Adam. Ron Tomatoes has this at 85%. Actually, let's check the audience score as well. 85% is the tomato meter, and the popcorn meter, or the audience score, is at 87. And then IMDB has it at 7.6. So yeah.
SPEAKER_03All in all, we're there.
SPEAKER_01Adam clearly loves this movie. Again, I love this movie. It's just an 8 out of 10 movie for me. Oh boy, that was Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Hope you guys enjoyed. Uh, be on the lookout, guys, for next week's episode because we're diving back into the Fox universe as we watch and review X2, the second X-Men movie. It's been a while since we done an X-Men movie. We we did it a while ago. But um we're doing X2.
SPEAKER_03Okay. The good X-Men movie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because we did have some words about the first one. You're curious as to what we said about the first one, go check that episode out as we continue our road to doomsday. We're currently in March, which means quite I'm not even kidding. I think in exactly nine months, we'll be in our seats reviewing Doomsday, Adam. All roads lead to doom. Just like this one. SPEAKER_04Oh, 8-legged freaks. A cool sci-fi movie.
SPEAKER_01I'm not gonna lie. I looked at the poster and I was like, damn, I can't believe this came out in the 90s or early 2000s. And then I saw that came out in 2020. I'm like, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_04Wait, what? Eight-legged freaks?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04It did not come out in 2020. It came out in 2002.
SPEAKER_01Oh, then I guess I'm just stupid and I can't read.
SPEAKER_04I watched this as a like I watched this when I was six, man. Uh, but yeah, this is just one of my like a favorite. This is just a personal favorite of mine.
SPEAKER_01I'm just stupid. Oh, I think I think I have something. But yeah. Go read Adam's review for that over there on our Instagram, once again, at Revan and GoPod.
