Welcome to the What’s Up Dad Podcast — a dad podcast recorded in Columbus, Ohio hosted by Grayson Thompson and Ryan Phipps. In this episode, we hit rapid fire questions with laughs, dad debates, and real-life parenting moments.

We talk sleep patterns, favorite drinks (coffee for sure), movie night memories, dad style (polos are essential), and the classic family vacation question: beach vs. mountains. Then we shift into the meaningful stuff — life lessons, faith, and a simple reminder that hits hard: “Find God sooner.” We also wrap with books for dads and why reading with your kids matters more than you think.

About the show: What’s Up, Dad?! is a place for dads to openly talk about what’s on their mind — “networking for dads without the networking.”

Alrighty now, what's up everybody? It is the What's Up Dad Podcast. Ryan, you excited?

speaker-1 (00:24)
I'm excited. Another day, another podcast.

speaker-0 (00:26)
Another day in paradise. That's what I feel like is this paradise Yeah, I feel like this is my feels good. Yeah, so

speaker-1 (00:29)
This is paradise.

The only thing that I'm missing is a nice drink. That's it.

speaker-0 (00:36)
goodness. I forgot to make pours tonight, so we're going to get those out. my goodness. We're doing the Penelope old peach old fashioned. If you haven't had that, hopefully. Okay. There's stuff in. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, don't. We have tequila. We got other stuff. I don't know. It's floating around. It's so good though. So they're already pre-mixed. You don't have to worry about anything and just a good time. Yeah. Buddy until your heart is like a

speaker-1 (01:05)
If I

give you the rest, is it?

speaker-0 (01:06)
just

no no no I got another bottle somewhere that's good that's good that's good okay that's I know I'm usually the bartender here that's a good one right yeah we're gonna be at it for a while this is gonna be a good podcast we have something completely different in store and in all reality ⁓ finishing up

speaker-1 (01:11)
You know, I don't normally pour this stuff. How's that looking? Couple hours tonight, right?

You want me finish it? There's not much left.

speaker-0 (01:28)
You want the rest? You want me to have it? Oh, have to drive. Guys, this is the Dad Podcast. We're enjoying ourselves. We're having a good time. This is no reflection of anything other than us just having a great time. Nick is going to be so mad. You got it on the table? Oh my goodness. I hope he doesn't watch this. Now he can't hear me. Here, we're going to make this disappear. Don't need that anymore. It goes into the collector's bin. All right. So here we are with the What's Up Dad Podcast. Super excited. Thanks for tuning in.

speaker-1 (01:30)
I'm so sorry

speaker-0 (01:55)
and you if you made it a minute and 37 seconds well actually we're in for the haul tonight this is going to be a quick episode though yeah we are going to make this one lightning fast completely different Ryan has no idea what's going to hit him in the face here in just a minute but i'm super excited about it a lot of good stuff we're going to do a rapid fire question aspect tonight it's going to be rapid fire Ryan doesn't know them but i also didn't

Like I looked at the questions, but it didn't look at the question. So I don't have like a big preconceived, all right, this is my answer, right? We're going to try to knock out as many as we can. We have some different topics. Yeah, I know, I know it sounds really weird, but in the future episode, you're going to get to do the same. Okay. If that makes sense. So we're going to kind of go back and forth. It's just a version, break up the monotony. We've had a lot of stuff going on. Yeah. Some super thick conversations. Yeah.

speaker-1 (02:32)
Are you asking yourself questions?

speaker-0 (02:48)
So that's why I thought let's do something different. And plus you get all the funds of doing the marketing stuff and coming up with ideas. And I thought, you know what? I can offer something. This was super easy to come up with. But I was like, why not? Let's just change it up. I feel like the mighty duck.

speaker-1 (03:02)
I like it. Oh, by the way, I'm wearing my I'll show everybody my dad birthday. Dad of the birthday boy shirt from 2016. First birthday. Yes. So I brought out of the closet tonight. I wear it typically not out in public. Actually, it hasn't been out in public in like 10 years. Probably. There's nothing left on it. But it used to be D Elmo D and it was, of course, Elmo themed party.

speaker-0 (03:13)
Was that first birthday? Okay.

speaker-1 (03:32)
And yeah, so I still have it.

speaker-0 (03:34)
Question for the podcast, how many first birthdays out there are Elmo themed?

speaker-1 (03:40)
I would say a majority.

speaker-0 (03:44)
Skyler's was Elmo themed. Was it? Yeah. So your first, our first Elmo themed, I think it's common. I have a red Elmo shirt, like all red with just a big old Elmo on the front. I don't know if it says dad. can't remember.

speaker-1 (03:56)
I would be curious though, do you think it's more common now versus like 10 years ago? Do think there's something that's overtaken it?

speaker-0 (04:03)
There's a lot more. mean, when you think of perspective of like nostalgia of stuff, like all that stuff is coming back and waves and droves, right? I ⁓ think Paramount and Netflix, they're running out of like really cool ideas. And you know what mean? Like in the perspective of like Hollywood is trying to change stuff up. You know what I mean? I think for a long time, and we talked about this on previous podcasts like Marvel and how they've done their videos and there was like a boom of awesome videos and then like a long

almost bust of videos that were just horrible. You know what mean? But they had to build a layer. Back in the day, they didn't do that because there wasn't 47 movies that were coming out on one surrounding thing. They put all their eggs in their basket or Elmo. know what I mean?

speaker-1 (04:48)
And Elmo's just another Sesame Street character. None of the other Sesame Street characters get the credence that Elmo does. That's true. Like no one's doing a Big Bird One-Ear Bash, right?

speaker-0 (04:59)
I mean, probably not though. Probably not.

speaker-1 (05:01)
By the way, we forgot to do something very important. Set the timer tonight. We're a little light tonight because we have got a special guest coming that we're going to be talking to later. So, anyhow, that's for a future podcast. Anyhow, 30 minutes. There we go.

speaker-0 (05:04)
That's a timer.

Let's do it. You're going to notice made some slight adjustments to the set. That's super exciting. Trying some different things guys. We're trying to bring the heat for you guys, trying to make all the adjustments. We are continuing to line out these podcasts and just make some different stuff. If you see us on social media and you're seeing it out there, you know, comment, right? I think Ryan, honestly, I don't think people give enough kudos for what's going on, right? I know you sit here and say, man, this is a lot of work.

set this up. Nobody sees that, but I tell you what, you're crushing it with the good topics on the videos that you're posting out there. CapCut, you are making them look... CapCut's making... You're making CapCut look great. CapCut's making... I don't know which way that makes more sense.

speaker-1 (05:59)
It's funny

because they invited me recently to become a creator on their... really? Yeah, they sent me a thing and I didn't do it. No, it's good. I think that we're both doing a lot of different things and you have your piece, I have my piece. I couldn't do your piece. You probably couldn't do my piece. I don't know. But you stole me a video from like, I asked you like three weeks ago. So... It's a dagger. So I have to do the videos and you know, it's a lot of work.

speaker-0 (06:23)
It's like a dagger right there.

All

right. All right. I'm to let this question be sat on the whole entire podcast. We're to come back to it. There may be some questions in here that pop up that could be relevant, but it's not this question. Okay. You cannot choose back to the future. Maybe you can. I don't know. Okay. However, here's the question. If there is one TV series, TV series that you could bring back for a final, final series.

doesn't matter, like episode, it doesn't matter if the character died off. Okay. So say we could get the character back or something, or they like split it or, and one movie, right? And don't take the easy street on back to the future. Like you got another one.

speaker-1 (07:01)
I got it, yeah.

think Back to the Future is over. would not bring it I wouldn't

speaker-0 (07:19)
You know what mean though? You

could though, but I won't con if you're going to do it, I want context. want legitimate context. So that's the questions I want you to sit on. I know you have them. We're not going to disclose them. You got to wait until the end. I don't have one, but you 29 minutes. So here's a couple of things we're going with rapid fire questions. got quick hit favorites. We got funny and off the wall. We have dad life specifics and thought provokers. Categories. Okay. I did put a little bit of thought when I typed it into chat, GBT, and it gave me a ton of stuff.

speaker-1 (07:29)
the movie.

speaker-0 (07:48)
So here we are. I've been mulling over this one. I've been mulling over it. All right, here we go. Coffee or tea?

speaker-1 (07:55)
⁓ Coffee. Coffee for sure. ⁓ Now, are you answering the question right now? And we're not giving any context, we're just saying.

speaker-0 (08:02)
I'm going to answer it.

Get

context all you want. Honestly, today's day and age, I'm struggling. I struggle to answer that. Like I was a big sweet tea drinker growing up. Like we're talking Southern sweet tea. But today I take cold brew coffee all day, every day. Cold brew coffee.

speaker-1 (08:17)
like co-brew, coffee,

blended. I mean, tea, feel like is more, I don't know, tea you could have anytime. I don't think that coffee you should have anytime. So that's why I'm like coffee for sure.

speaker-0 (08:27)
Nope.

Well, and coffee too, like I'll be honest with you, that is the one caffeinated substance that will keep me going. Like truly keep me up at night. I could drink an energy drink and not necessarily stay up like a crash, but coffee has just like a weird long lasting effect. You know what mean? It's very, I don't know. That's a thought for me, something that kind of mull over. but yeah, early bird or night owl.

speaker-1 (08:54)
I think I'm in both camps. I like to be It really depends if it's during the week probably early bird bed at like nine o'clock weekend Typically I get up early and I stay up late depending so Just less sleep overall. Yeah, I'm good for eight to nine hours

You need to take a class from me because you need some more sleep. Absolutely. But ⁓ I'd say eight to nine hours, any less than six hours, I'm not good. I'm not productive. No, I'm not a grouchy person. think that I would just, I just wouldn't feel good. I could do it, you know, like when we had ⁓ the camp out and I think we slept.

speaker-0 (09:37)
Are you just grouchy?

OK. Yeah. Got it.

speaker-1 (09:51)
Like two hours, you know, that night that was, but that's different because there's no expectation of need to do anything the next day versus like I got to go to work. Yeah, that's a different situation. If it's a Saturday and I have nothing going on.

speaker-0 (10:05)
Whatever. Got it. Got it. Both. Give me five hours of sleep. I'll figure it out. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I

speaker-1 (10:11)
can't believe it. I don't know how you do it. I think

there will be a day where it hits you and you cannot do that.

speaker-0 (10:18)
It's starting to. Is there? It's starting to. I'm enjoying. So I'm enjoying my weekend.

sleeping time to like eight o'clock in the morning.

speaker-1 (10:31)
But when you say that, how late are you up before that?

speaker-0 (10:34)
I mean, we we still I don't think we step any later than we normally do. So we're talking about I'm getting. Yeah. Yeah. But now instead of getting up and only five hours, I'm getting like six, seven, like seven, eight hours of sleep. Yeah. So I'm enjoying that. I what I what I'm not happy about, though, and I'm and I'll be very transparent about this. The whole snowmageddon aspect has really thrown off my morning schedule because I can't get to the gym. I don't like I mean, I've talked about it before. I do not like going to the gym when the kids are home. Yeah.

speaker-1 (10:38)
early morning.

and get to the gym.

speaker-0 (11:04)
I feel like it ruins my day. I feel like going to the gym ruins my day. It ruins my outlook for my kids. just can't.

There's something about it. It throws my whole day off. When I know they're at home, it throws my day off. I would much rather wait until 10 o'clock in the morning than go to the gym. It's just weird. I struggle with that. don't know. Yeah, just something.

speaker-1 (11:27)
interesting. Anyhow,

but I will say you're supposed to get our age group, I know, you're supposed to get six to seven hours of sleep per night. Ideally seven to eight, you know. So don't, well, you know. Don't you want to live longer?

speaker-0 (11:44)
What encyclopedia did you read that? I

do want to. Yeah, I do want to. But I do. I try. right. All right. Favorite dad joke or like statement of all time kind of perspective like a joke. I have a joke that's I don't go first. I'll go first. So this is my perspective of this of this. And that was a very heavy pour, by the way. This is great. I.

speaker-1 (11:51)
Eventually you gotta get some sleep.

You go first.

speaker-0 (12:12)
When somebody asks me a question, ⁓ I sometimes when it doesn't make any sense or my child doesn't make any sense, I'll say, what does that have to do with the price of rice in China? Right? And here's the deal. I didn't make this up. That was my father-in-law said that for years. ⁓ And I've just taken after. I mean, when my kids just say something really that's dumbfounding and I'm just like...

You know, like, I don't know. It's just one of those little statements things. So that's not a me. I didn't make it. I didn't coin it. I use it. I love it. It's just something that's always there. That's good. Yeah. So yeah. What do you got? Got anything? Nothing to come to mind. If you don't have one, it's okay.

speaker-1 (12:52)
Yeah, I mean, got a lot of things that I say and do like my favorite thing to do with Parker is to say you're going to pay the piper. And that means that typically it doesn't matter in what scenario you could fit that in for anything. ⁓ And it means to him that he's going to get like tickled in areas that he does not he uncontrolled laughter, like, you know, like under the arm and stuff like where you just like.

He just will, it's not a good thing for him. He's going to be like freaking out, right? You know, it's also, you're going to pay the piper, but it's like, Oh, you did, you know, it's all fun and games like, uh,

speaker-0 (13:21)
Yeah, it's not a good thing.

speaker-1 (13:34)
if you don't let me watch this, you know, this show or I'm trying to, you know, take a nap or something, you know, you're about to pay the piper. ⁓

speaker-0 (13:42)
I get the concept of that. yeah. OK. So got it. Well, I can't know, I don't I don't have any statements that but I will say that my kids Sydney is all about when like Carter's being tickled or whatever. Yeah. She'll come up to me. She's like, won't do it.

And like, of course I will. And I'm like, this is going to be really bad for you really quickly. It's like right immediately to the collarbone and she's like, ⁓ yeah. Can't fathom what the heck is going on. I'm like, well, this is a you problem right now. And then immediately it's like arm goes that way and I'm like,

speaker-1 (14:12)
It's great.

Yeah, it's Again, it's one of those things where you're doing it now. Like how much longer can you do that for?

speaker-0 (14:22)
Not long enough. long

enough. Yep. All right. ⁓ Last song stuck in your head. Or song that stuck in your head the most that you just could.

speaker-1 (14:36)
I'm a big country fan. I don't know, some Sam Hunt. I like some good Sam Hunt songs.

speaker-0 (14:47)
Ecstasy. It's jammed. Yeah. Yeah, go ahead. No, no. They'll get that one day. Maybe, maybe, maybe, Yeah.

speaker-1 (14:53)
Bring it

So Zach Brown Band, Sam Hunt, ⁓ any country, not Taylor Swift. Not a Swifty. No, but anything else is good. There's some good Taylor Swift songs.

speaker-0 (15:05)
Not a Swifty? Okay.

Yes.

Kids love like Chicken Fried. You know, that's a super catchy song. It's good stuff. ⁓ Brown Band. Love Chicken Fried. They love my daughter. My oldest loves like Chris Young loves when I sing Chris Young tour. They love Sam Hunt. I remember singing Sam Hunt songs. The whole Mono, the whole Mono Velo album. I probably could. I probably know every word. Yeah. Yeah. He just needs to learn how to not drive his vehicle.

speaker-1 (15:16)
That's Zac Brown Band, right?

Good songs.

We have some good ones.

speaker-0 (15:38)
when he's drinking. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I don't know. But hey, you know, it's okay. All right. Worst movie you've seen recently.

speaker-1 (15:50)
I don't know, you want to take this one first? Do you got one? Worst movie. There's been a lot of bad movies.

speaker-0 (15:59)
I feel like, okay, uh, worst movie. I, I don't know if I can give you an actual movie, worst movie platform that's brought movies, like brought movies out. Any movie that I see pop up like new movie on Hulu. Oh, yeah. There's no good movies. Yeah. Like I've struggled to watch and I'm like, this looks like an awesome war movie sucks. It's free. Like, and it's very frustrating. Whereas like you go over to like Paramount. Yeah.

speaker-1 (16:20)
If it's free.

speaker-0 (16:26)
You got something, you go to prime, prime's coming out with something. You've got Apple, Apple's coming out with some hit and miss, but you know what mean? It's like, they at least have something over there. You go to peacock, peacock has movies, right? And it's like, what the heck? You know? So that's really frustrating to me. And so that, that's, that's the thing I think of like that, ⁓ platform struggles with the movie base.

speaker-1 (16:47)
I'm sticking to my recent Marvel, we'll see how Doomsday does. Some of the recent Marvel movies have not been very good. ⁓ But is the question favorite movie? Or recent good movie? ⁓ We went and saw the movie David. Real funny story real quick if I got it. ⁓

speaker-0 (17:01)
It just says, don't know, we haven't got there yet.

Yeah, you got that. We got

17 minutes.

speaker-1 (17:15)
So we get, I had planned like a date night for our family last Friday. We did all this stuff. We went to the movies. We did dinner. We went to activate Polaris, which was the best time, but we get to the movie theater.

speaker-0 (17:28)
It's like a thousand dollar night, ⁓ wait.

speaker-1 (17:31)
So get to the movie theater. I thought we're a few minutes late. Movie started at 430. I thought we're a few minutes late. We get the tickets. We get in line. We get popcorn. know, Parker wants a hot dog. All this stuff. We get into the theater. It's halfway over. So guess what happened? They had canceled the 430 showing as I was checking out of the, like putting in my credit card information and everything, paid for it.

They canceled it because no one signed up for it. Moved everyone to the 350 showing. Oh yeah. So after the movie complete, so we're in the movie. We're like, he's killing Goliath. Is this the beginning of the movie? And all these people are sitting there and we're like coming in like, woo. And everyone is, uh, been seeing the movie for an hour. So anyhow, after the movie, I go up and I say, um, you know, here's like, I showed them on my phone, 4 30. Here's a ticket 350 is, yeah.

We canceled that movie. I've never seen it happen either. They gave us our full, a full refund. We got all of our money back and we only missed cause it was an hour. So when you think about previews and everything, that's what 20 minutes or so. So we only missed about 40 minutes. We got the good part where he kills Goliath and then the rest of the movie. But anyway, that was my movie. That was a funny story. But by the way, we were way too early for dinner because I was planning on doing at the theater.

speaker-0 (18:30)
I've never seen that happen before.

speaker-1 (19:00)
hour and then we were even earlier for ⁓

speaker-0 (19:04)
Where'd you go? where'd you go to eat? ⁓

speaker-1 (19:05)
Activate players. Chili Verde.

We stayed all in the players area. So yeah, that was my funny story.

if it's not full, like at some point they cancel it out and I was in the queue at the right time while they were canceling the movie. So who knows?

speaker-0 (19:28)
All right, all right. Beach or mountains?

speaker-1 (19:35)
Is it just me or is it my family?

speaker-0 (19:36)
Buddy, I only got Beecher Mountains here. Okay. You can take it whatever direction you want to go with. Beech. Yeah. Mountains. I love a good beach trip, but honestly, the mountains, I feel like I can do more with my family. Ski? I don't have to worry about my kids with water. Oh, no, no. I'm just saying I don't have to worry about my kids with water. I think it's very stressful.

speaker-1 (19:39)
You

What are you doing in the mountains?

speaker-0 (20:05)
I know. Somebody that owns a house with a pool. Being around water is just stressful.

speaker-1 (20:09)
What's happening in the mountains?

speaker-0 (20:11)
thing.

I that and that's probably the other perspective of being able to completely disconnect as well. ⁓ Yeah. So like, mean, you're 100 % disconnecting. That's true. Yeah.

speaker-1 (20:17)
I quit.

you're not going on the mountain to do anything like ski. You're going in the mountains like you're talking almost more like ⁓ like a like a pigeon forage type trip.

speaker-0 (20:33)
Kind

of yeah, Hocking Hills, Pigeon Forge, any of that stuff. Yeah. Yeah, that type of scenery. you. Yeah. I just, I feel like the easier place to get away when I can get no cell service. Yeah. I just enjoy that. I don't know.

speaker-1 (20:37)
That's what you when you say mountain.

So we do both trips every year that way. On our way to the beach, we do a three day stop at Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. Okay. And do that and then go.

speaker-0 (21:00)
Okay. Yeah. Very cool. What beach you go to or is it different every time? ⁓

speaker-1 (21:04)
Almost always Myrtle Beach because we go with her family. Dirty, dirty Myrtle. We've done Virginia Beach one time.

speaker-0 (21:07)
Dirty Myrtle. Dirty Myr-

Cold water.

speaker-1 (21:17)
And only twice have we ⁓ been run out by hurricane. ⁓

speaker-0 (21:21)
That's good statistics. I like it. All right. Let's go with favorite ice cream flavor.

speaker-1 (21:32)
All right. Mint chocolate.

speaker-0 (21:34)
Midnight Madness handles. Thank you guys. You can sponsor the sponsor the podcast. I'm just saying I'll talk about it We'll stick a big old tub of Midnight Madness right here. It's a seasonal flavor and it's ⁓ Seven minutes from here. Okay downhill your wrong road next to Menards. Yeah, right right close to Menards Wow, there's one up in power ⁓

speaker-1 (21:45)
Where's the local handles?

when we lived in power was it was right beside us we could get

it whatever one yeah but there's like a handles and then right beside it as a graders yeah and then there's another one

speaker-0 (22:05)
don't know how they stay

in business. I don't know how that one stays. I know how the one stays in business here, but here's what I'll give credit to. They literally do not close. They're open. Right now you can go get ice cream. It's 30 degrees outside. was negative five outside. You can go get ice cream.

speaker-1 (22:20)
We should do next food review. We're gonna do ice cream. We should do handles ice cream. Let's go.

speaker-0 (22:25)
Let's go. They have

flavor of the monk. But again, I always ask, do you have midnight Mattis? Dark chocolate with a peanut butter ripple, like super, super rich. Yeah. I mean, is knock your socks off rich, but it's not sweet. Rich. There's a difference. It's not like you're eating of that of Reese's peanut butter. Like, you know how that gets overly overly sweet, right? You know what I mean? Like this is, this is like rich.

speaker-1 (22:28)
What is midnight madness?

discussing.

Good mix of

speaker-0 (22:55)
Absolutely,

like super dark cacao chocolate, you know.

speaker-1 (22:59)
Okay, outside of handles, what's your favorite ice cream? Not flavor, just like place.

speaker-0 (23:04)
⁓ favorite place. I would go awkwardly, probably say Jenny's ice cream and their dark chocolate. I love it. It's really, really hard to find a dark chocolate ice cream, like a good dark chocolate ice cream. ⁓ so good. I've had. Yeah, it's a good one. Yeah, that was have unique stuff. I'm willing to try it. There's a couple that's like, really, who come up with this? Yeah. Who did you pay? Did you child put this together? That's kind of my thoughts. It is.

speaker-1 (23:16)
They have something called bramble berry. You've had it? Bramble Berry. That's my favorite.

But it's always good.

speaker-0 (23:34)
It is even like even though it doesn't make sense. It's still kind of like palate cleansing. I'm like, I don't want a palate cleansing ice cream, right? Like, yeah, that's kind of what I think. But I don't know. Yeah, it's good stuff. Good stuff. Let's see. What is your dad uniform? Do have a dad uniform? Like what's your go-to? You're go out and do something. ⁓ You're a dad event. What's the dad uniform look like?

speaker-1 (23:48)
and your power.

It's gonna be a polo. Polo. mean, I always wear polos. ⁓ Polo, black polo, two buttons out of three. Jeans. What? You asked me.

speaker-0 (24:03)
Ho!

Okay, yeah, I've seen that. ⁓

You know,

that's funny. This is Definitely not two buttons out of three.

speaker-1 (24:17)
Yeah, don't you know what you know?

there's three buttons, so it's either two or one or three or none, but that's not very appropriate for wherever I'm going. I mean, I could do it, two buttons, jeans and hey,

speaker-0 (24:22)
but okay.

Okay.

speaker-1 (24:34)
Yeah, what about you? You always look the same. I don't know. Really? Yeah, you look, you always have the same.

speaker-0 (24:40)
We did an event today. We did an event today. I do have a bunch of them. OK, don't ever wear them. try not to. We did an event today and jokingly enough, I looked at the kids because it was a it was like a career day thing. And I looked at the kids and I was like, I was like, look at this. This is me dressing up in bed before we left. She looks at me. She goes, do you have sweatpants on? I was like, no, these are my nice pants. They're my nice pants. She was like, you look like a bum. And I'm like, I feel like.

speaker-1 (24:44)
You have a button up, sure.

Is

that the name of this episode? Do you have sweatpants on?

That's hilarious. Yeah, because you do the career day like you're, know, but I mean, you're, you know, I mean, you do different like videos and meetings and things, but you're not going into like meetings with a bunch of

speaker-0 (25:35)
I meet with all kinds of people, bro. I still wear the same stuff. I do not care.

speaker-1 (25:40)
But you're not like, when you're meeting, you're going into like boardroom settings and that kind thing. And you wear that.

speaker-0 (25:49)
this.

I don't care. I learned I learned a long time, but I got a business partner and I'm not joking. He may be on the podcast one day. Like I've seen him. I've seen him walk into like Ruth's Chris steakhouse with like like sweatpants on and like a sweatshirt and a hoodie and not. And like and I never understood it. And it's funny, like I can dress up what the thing about it is, is like the freedom to be able to wear just whatever I want to wear. That's my thing. I just want.

I want to be able to wear what I want to wear. So if that's deciding to wear sweatpants and sweatshirt, great. If that's this great, if that's that great, you know, that's the perspective I kind of bring to that scenario. Do I always dress like a bum? No, I do dress up from time to time. You know what mean? Do I enjoy it? Not really. I'll be honest with you. Not really. I just don't like a suit and tie. I don't like it. You know, I love actually my favorite time to wear a polo is when I go coughing. Why not? Because I have some cool polos. Yeah.

speaker-1 (26:40)
something soon time.

speaker-0 (26:49)
Yep. No, I go golfing. out of here. That's so funny. That's so funny. All right.

speaker-1 (26:49)
golfing in your garage.

Did you explain why we're doing ⁓ this? This is a little different. Why did you explain it to folks? OK.

speaker-0 (27:05)
No, I didn't explain it. should. ⁓

no, I do. Well, I just figured we'd do something different. I was thinking, you know, off the wall, I kind of wanted to surprise you and do this. I really wanted to take the papers and go and throw them. But I didn't think that was going to go over well. So at the end of the day, I thought to myself, I'm like, you know what? I'm going let you know that we're going to do this, but I'm not going to disclose the question. So that was kind of the perspective. All right. Couple more. We got a couple more questions in the vault here we're to go with. If you can only eat one food forever, what is it?

speaker-1 (27:39)
⁓ One food forever man, I don't know I want to say pizza, but that's just the like the first thing that comes to mind

speaker-0 (27:48)
wrong

with that. can go with that. Yeah. Okay. All right, ladies. This one's, this one's going to hurt. You should pizza. I could do pizza because there's so many versions of pizza. I would get a breakfast flyers pizza. You know what saying? Like I could just be perfect. Yeah. All right. ⁓ I lost my question. Ladies late. No, this is, this is for you, but I need your answer. What, what do you say when your wife says I have a headache?

speaker-1 (27:52)
Didn't answer the question.

I have just recently answered this question. Correctly? Correctly. Well, I don't know. ⁓ I always ask the same thing. Did you take medicine? Have you had, have you taken like Tylenol or something? And then if she says no, which is typically what she says because I'm the cause of her headache. if I, if I'm not around, she'll be okay. No, I'm just kidding.

Then I get her medicine or whatever. ⁓ Why? What's?

speaker-0 (28:45)
My go-to answer is did you drink enough water today? ⁓

speaker-1 (28:50)
Oh,

that is so bad.

speaker-0 (28:52)
Man typical answer right there. Did you drink enough water? So bad, but that's the A typical answer. So ladies, I love that. I hate that, but that's part of it. That is a part of it. All right. Couple more here. Here we go. Are baby whites essential or overrated?

speaker-1 (28:55)
Did you drink enough water?

I would say they're essential.

speaker-0 (29:12)
Okay. Yeah, they're definitely essential. When you need them, they're essential. We still have baby wipes laying around. ⁓ Definitely have baby wipes laying around. Okay. We already talked about a snack that we love. We've done that in the past. Let's go with.

speaker-1 (29:18)
We use them all the time.

speaker-0 (29:31)
Hmm, favorite way to get kids to clean up.

speaker-1 (29:35)
⁓ I mean the easy one is do you want to do what you want to do? Right like you want to do this? Okay clean up ⁓ But I'll say we're trying to get more into the hey, it's just a responsibility Not necessarily like all right you get to earn this you should just do it anyhow ⁓ But that's with an eight-year-old kid, so it doesn't work that way with like a two or three year old kid. Yeah, you know

There's way too many Nerf bullets around my house right now.

speaker-0 (30:10)
That sense. That makes sense. Yeah. I was just starting to become everywhere. It's quite concerning, but it is happening. So there's that. Yeah, we've made a game out of it. I mean, they're starting to have responsibility, but we've made a game out of it. You know, we say who can clean up the most. My actual, my favorite one is Beth does the best job at it. I'm looking at an item in here, right? That's what she's saying. Whoever picks it up gets something. And so they got to pick up a bunch of different items and then like,

⁓ somebody got it. You know what I mean? So I think she lies to him and tells him it's a different item because if somebody picks it up for the first item, I don't know. Well, I don't think I don't know. I never ask. I try not to ask and get involved. That's why it's not my game. So

speaker-1 (30:56)
You can't do that with one kid because then you're if it's me and I I am the clean a phobe in the house So I always want things to be completely clean. So if it's me like, all right, Amber. All right, Parker whoever picks the free, you know, I'm I'm sleeping on the couch that night. So can't do that with one kid. I can't do it.

speaker-0 (31:14)
Can't do it with one kid.

Makes sense, makes sense. All right, Disney or Pixar? Disney, that's an easy one. Let's go with best kid invention ever.

speaker-1 (31:20)
Disney.

Man, you answer this one first. Best kid in-

speaker-0 (31:32)
On Shark Tank, there was a kid that came up with the idea of putting a paintbrush sample and holding a paintbrush so that you didn't have to ruin a paintbrush and you could hold it in a container. It was like really cool idea where you had the leftover paint and you could write on the outside of it. Pretty awesome idea. That's sweet.

speaker-1 (31:51)
have

one for this then I wasn't going that way I thought you were talking about ⁓

speaker-0 (32:02)
So favorite. So no, no invention. No invention. All right. That's fine. That's fine. Let's go with, we've done something with like a motto. You have any thoughts, any questions before I finish off rapid fire? Do you have any, do you have any of these? Have you come up with any questions? Your question.

speaker-1 (32:04)
No invention.

I come over there and think, yes I have. Favorite...

Favorite... Favorite drink.

speaker-0 (32:26)
Favorite drink? Ooh, water. No. No, if I can have anything, I just have water. Yeah.

speaker-1 (32:29)
with any bourbon.

Yeah, I'm 100 % water now too, but when I drink pop, was vanilla coke.

speaker-0 (32:39)
That's like old school coke. Yes.

speaker-1 (32:42)
So good.

And then Pepsi tried to like come out.

speaker-0 (32:45)
Yeah. Sorry, you're pep to your coke guy. ⁓ Really? Yeah.

speaker-1 (32:48)
⁓ I'm a Pepsi guy.

But vanilla coke.

speaker-0 (32:53)
That doesn't even make sense.

speaker-1 (32:54)
Well, I drink water now, so...

speaker-0 (32:57)
Are you a full sugar, uh, Pepsi guy, are you a like Pepsi zero diet Pepsi diet Coke? Well, like when you drink it, regular Pepsi. Yeah. None of the fake stuff. I grew up, I grew up drinking the fake stuff. My mom always drank diet Mountain Dew, diet Coke. I never, we never had regular stuff in our house. So just, wasn't something that was there. So, yep. That's a fun one. That's a fun one. All right. Um,

speaker-1 (33:03)
I don't drink. don't drink it. It's a regular. None of the fake stuff.

speaker-0 (33:27)
We're going end on some thought provokers here, then we're going to wrap it up with our big questions. So do not, don't, don't give us that yet. Okay. One thing you tell your younger self.

speaker-1 (33:39)
Ooh, that's good. One thing I would tell my younger self, man, would I change the trajectory of my childhood and life?

speaker-0 (33:50)
You get to choose the time, the day and age, the perspective, the everything.

speaker-1 (33:55)
Yeah, that's pretty heavy. That's a heavy one. There's that word again, heavy. ⁓ Man, what would I tell my younger self? I think that I would say...

speaker-0 (34:07)
it.

speaker-1 (34:12)
Well, I would definitely say save more money.

speaker-0 (34:19)
Hmm.

speaker-1 (34:20)
And I would say, ⁓ no, I don't, you know what? I'm going to answer this one. I think that I would not say anything. I think, I don't think that I would give my, my younger self any advice. I feel like it would change.

speaker-0 (34:38)
It doesn't change

the trajectory. Assume this doesn't change the trajectory.

speaker-1 (34:42)
You know,

I went straight for the Back to the Future.

speaker-0 (34:45)
You

went easy. You go, how do I get out of this? How do I manipulate?

speaker-1 (34:50)
I

straight for the space-time continuum and it changed my whole life and all that good stuff. All right, so nothing changes. ⁓ I don't know. What would I say? You answer this question first.

speaker-0 (35:02)
I would tell myself to find God sooner.

speaker-1 (35:08)
just don't know.

speaker-0 (35:09)
I just didn't have that knowing that where I'm at in my life today and what I missed out as a kid in the first 18, 19, 20 years old. Jeez, there's our time. Thanks producer Beth. Like what I'm, what I feel like I missed out in the knowledge where like at such a young age where I see my kids today being able to soak up. I'm going to say this, but keep it in context of understanding where I'm coming from. Mindless Bible verses.

Mm Are going to be mindful Bible verses when they get older. Yeah, they're going to have that bank of just so much knowledge. They don't know what they mean. And I say mindless because they don't know what they mean today. They don't know what they did. Don't get them today. But they know a bunch of them. They know more than I could ever know. I mean, I asked my daughter the other day and I was like the and she's like the fruit of the and I'm like, I gave you the like I said the and I'm like first and she's like.

But I'm like, how where's this even coming from? Yeah. You know, and I know I know where it's coming from. Like we're going through that and we're doing a as they get older, they're starting to learn more and more about it. But the fact that they have that, I don't have the brain capacity like it's a lot longer road to get to there for me. But they're remembering so much. I'm not saying I envy them. Right. Not saying that. But if I had to tell myself something, find God first. Yeah. ⁓

speaker-1 (36:33)
I mean, I don't know if I agree with that. think that I agree with what everything that you're saying, but I just feel like would you have missed out on other things that have made you, you know.

speaker-0 (36:46)
I never picked up a Bible though. Yeah. Like I had a Bible, but I never prioritized picking up a Bible. I, I, and I say that in the perspective and this is why I go and I understand. And it's like, this is something weird to deal with. Right? Like you don't want to, um, you're going to find God in your own time and the right time. God's going to present himself to you. God, that whole perspective, right? Like we, can hit on, we could have another hour conversation on that perspective. We don't have an hour. No.

speaker-1 (37:14)
Why do you save the really big questions for when we are out of time?

speaker-0 (37:18)
It's

icebreakers for new. It's bold in the new conversation. The way I say that is because just the notion for my younger self to just pick up the Bible, to read it, to have knowledge of it, whether I understood it in any capacity, I'm not asking to have understanding of it. Because again, not changing any trajectory. I'm not looking to change the trajectory. I'm just saying, Grayson, the Bible was on your shelf at some point in time and you you had it when you just sat down and like... ⁓

Like when you went to church your four times a year, pay attention. Sure. Whether that meant anything. Remember that verse. Yeah. You know, I don't, I didn't learn the Lord's prayer until I was like a high school, ⁓ I was a, ⁓ a scene like a junior senior in high school.

speaker-1 (38:06)
Mm-hmm.

speaker-0 (38:08)
Like that's how, mean, at that age, didn't even, I couldn't even begin to know it. You know what I mean? that, so not even just like, just the simple fact of that, if I would've known that earlier as a kid or whatever it might be, that's the, that's the one perspective.

speaker-1 (38:22)
got one. You motivated me. You encouraged me. I'm going to say spend more time talking with friends. When I was a kid, spend more time talking with friends about meaningful things and not all the things that I talked about, like trash things. Looking back, that'd be it.

speaker-0 (38:41)
⁓ that's a good one.

Alright, what's a book every dad should read? Don't say The Billionaire.

speaker-1 (38:51)
I would have never said that ever.

speaker-0 (38:55)

And we're gonna take the Bible out of it. Yes, you should read that.

speaker-1 (39:00)
by Wickman now. Every book dad should read probably ⁓ like I don't know Elmo Goes to the Schoolhouse that's a good one.

What?

speaker-0 (39:16)
No, you said that was such a straight face. Like you were so question. You said that was such a straight face. I don't even know if that's a real book or not. I'm assuming it's a real book. my gosh. You're repping it. And that's what's making it even harder for me to look you straight in the face right now. No, I like that. I like that. Here's I'll give you my context. And it's not an exact book. It's read. No, read whatever book your kids are like, enjoy the bedtime story read. Yeah.

speaker-1 (39:39)
You Bible.

speaker-0 (39:47)
Be invested. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. I love it. I take that. Yeah. Like my kids, like, ⁓ there's like a dinosaur scribble book or like, actually my favorite book is, ⁓ don't push the button. So if you've ever read that, I'm gonna have to get it. It's going to go on the shelf here. Don't push the button. Don't push the button. Like, love it. You just love the book that your kids want to read. Like you want to be a dad, enjoy that, that nighttime time. Yeah. There you go. That's another good one.

speaker-1 (39:47)
That's what I'm saying.

Don't push the

Chicken chicken boom boom. Number

one. Yeah, that's a good one. Don't read what's the one where the lady eats a horse. She eats a horse and a shoe and there's a shoe and a horse. You know what talking about? And they eat, someone else eats something. It's a disgusting, it's a kid's book, but it's disgusting. A fly eats something and they all eat it.

speaker-0 (40:22)
No clue what you're... No idea.

Never heard of it.

We're to ask the next person that comes on the podcast if they've ever read this to their kid. right. ⁓ Anything else? Anything else, and then we're going to answer the question that we had.

speaker-1 (40:46)
Nope. We're out of time anyhow, so.

speaker-0 (40:48)
We don't have time. This was a great episode here. So quite going back to the question, if there is one movie you could revive. Remember, it doesn't matter if the main character is dead or died, right? They're they're back, right? ⁓ So we're going to kill that part of the plot. ⁓ And then ⁓ one TV show. Yeah. Yeah.

speaker-1 (41:13)
You me to start?

I'll start with the TV show. It's going to be Loki. All time. What? Yes, really. That's actually one of my I mean, it's on the top, top five of TV shows. And ended way too soon. The TVA and everything that was going into it. ⁓ Loki for sure would be one that could could get a few extra episodes in there. I know you're going old school.

speaker-0 (41:21)
Love that show.

Yeah.

No, I would. I honestly, my thoughts, Sons of Anarchy. No, I never watched it. Nope. Good show. Jack's Taylor. Just riding off in the sunset. Yeah. Yeah. Just a good show. It was a good overall show at the end of the day. I don't know. I liked it. So Beth liked it. It was just one of those. I don't know. Yeah. Something, something different, something different. All right. movie. Got a movie.

speaker-1 (41:56)
Hmm.

gun.

speaker-0 (42:04)
But it's here though, it's still here.

speaker-1 (42:06)
⁓ I'll use it. Yeah, top gun. You know the first time I watched Top Gun?

speaker-0 (42:09)
That's what you're using or no?

What?

speaker-1 (42:18)
The first time I watched Top Gun was at the Mentor Treat.

speaker-0 (42:23)
You've never seen Top Gun until then? Like the, are we talking like the, any Top Gun movie?

speaker-1 (42:24)
No, that was the first time I watched it.

Yeah, I've seen it before. But now I've watched them all.

speaker-0 (42:32)
Bruh.

You went back and watched every Top Gun because of that. Yes. Well, you started with the best. Well, I mean, arguably could say it was the best. Yeah. It was a good movie. That's surprising. don't know. I see. I gave you that. I gave you that. Um,

speaker-1 (42:42)
That was fun.

cash.

what you got.

speaker-0 (42:55)
And okay. So I feel like I can actually say this then. you'd bring the goose back. Yeah. ⁓ no, ⁓ I wish, we could have, ⁓ I mean, he died in real life, ⁓ Brian from fast and furious. Yeah. Like I wish that trajectory of that movie series could have gone in that trajectory. It went way too long.

speaker-1 (43:01)
The Goose.

No.

way too long.

speaker-0 (43:23)
that trajectory, but it should have come back. You know what I mean? It's like they, you know, so I think that character just really shifted the whole thing. ⁓ and just, you know, and if we could figure out copyright stuff, we'd be playing that song in the background. Not now with him, driving off them, driving off the sunset and the Supra. mean, my goodness at the end of the day, one last quarter mile at a time. So,

speaker-1 (43:35)
Mm-hmm. I don't know.

speaker-0 (43:53)
Way too much. That's all we got for you guys tonight. That's it. Appreciate you. Make sure you like subscribe if you're interested in the podcast. Do they have a form they can fill out?

speaker-1 (44:02)
Comment will be in the comments below. Check it out.

speaker-0 (44:04)
Yep. Yep. Definitely give that a look. It's, there. we're excited. We got a lot of good stuff coming up. We got a lot of good conversations with some great people, just really trying to dig, you know, we're, as we get better at this, him and I working together, we're going to try to get deeper in these conversations and we're going to try to bring more deep conversations. This was a way to be a little light on the topics, but it gave us an opportunity to find out what works. Right. And I think we're able to offer some input and some perspective on

some different things. hopefully enjoyed it. If you like this type of episode, let us know. Maybe we'll have more often. We can do that as well. But at end of the day, you know what we always say? Check it out.

speaker-1 (44:44)
I
