Matthew Lesson 34: A Leper, Centurion, and Mother-in-Law
Matthew 8:1-17 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Leper, Centurion, & Mother-in-Law."
Chapters 8 and 9 of Matthew show us Jesus' "Framework for Ministry." At the end of chapter 9, the author summarizes these two chapters by spelling out that framework. This lesson introduces that framework and covers the first three instances of Jesus' ministry of compassion and proclaiming.
Lepers were by Mosaical Law "unclean" and had to live apart from society. Learn how Jesus not only spoke to this leper, but touched and healed him! Roman Centurions were gentiles and the ruling enemy invaders in Palestine. Learn how Jesus not only spoke to this Centurion, but also offered to visit his home to heal a beloved servant! Peter offered the hospitality of his own home in Capernaum to Jesus even as he was caring for his sick mother-in-law. Learn how Jesus healed her with a touch, and she immediately got out of bed (healed) and began to serve the guests!
