Matthew 14:13-21 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Feeding of the 5000."
In this passage, we see God’s work continuing in spite of John the Baptist losing his life. We also see the humanity of Jesus demonstrated in this episode. The narrative shows Jesus interacting with the crowds in a significant way, and the contrast of how the apostles differed in their initial response to the needs of the crowd.
A simple but powerful question is raised by this entire episode relative to our own discipleship--
What “tired and hungry crowd” in my own life (opportunity to serve) needs me to point them to Jesus instead of my thinking, “I don’t have enough, and I can’t do it!”
