All right,"},{"startTime":87.46,"endTime":91.1,"body":"so a number of years ago, we're talking about 13 years ago or"},{"startTime":91.1,"endTime":94.34,"body":"so, is when my wife and I decided to move out"},{"startTime":95.3,"endTime":98.18,"body":"from California to Indiana."},{"startTime":100.18,"endTime":103.94,"body":"Now, I grew up in"},{"startTime":103.94,"endTime":107.7,"body":"California, and when it"},{"startTime":107.7,"endTime":111.06,"body":"came time to, like, you know, in school, learn all the states and whatnot,"},{"startTime":112.28,"endTime":116.04,"body":"it's funny, because California was always, like, so big, and it was"},{"startTime":116.04,"endTime":119.8,"body":"so. I don't know, it"},{"startTime":119.8,"endTime":121.16,"body":"was. It was California."},{"startTime":125.16,"endTime":128.52,"body":"So when it came time to learning all of the other states, you just"},{"startTime":128.84,"endTime":132.48,"body":"didn't pay a lot of attention to them. All right? I mean, you"},{"startTime":132.48,"endTime":135.08,"body":"paid attention to your neighbors. You got Oregon, you got"},{"startTime":135.64,"endTime":139.44,"body":"Nevada, you got Arizona. You know, Washington's up"},{"startTime":139.44,"endTime":143.2,"body":"there as well. But other than that, that was. That was really"},{"startTime":143.6,"endTime":146.96,"body":"about it. So here I am,"},{"startTime":146.96,"endTime":150.6,"body":"obviously, a number of years later, and I've packed up everything that I"},{"startTime":150.6,"endTime":153.76,"body":"own, and I'm moving out to"},{"startTime":153.76,"endTime":157.4,"body":"Indiana. This is a bit embarrassing,"},{"startTime":157.4,"endTime":161.0,"body":"but if. If you would have handed me a map of the"},{"startTime":161.0,"endTime":164.76,"body":"United States, said with no. With no labels on them, and just said,"},{"startTime":164.76,"endTime":168.52,"body":"point to Indiana. I'm not convinced that I would be able"},{"startTime":168.52,"endTime":172.29,"body":"to because you just, like, you just didn't care."},{"startTime":172.29,"endTime":174.89,"body":"You know, you're just like, oh, it's all corn or you know, I have no"},{"startTime":174.89,"endTime":178.13,"body":"reason to ever go there. Why care?"},{"startTime":178.69,"endTime":182.53,"body":"And here I am uprooting my entire life to not only go"},{"startTime":182.53,"endTime":184.53,"body":"there, but to move there."},{"startTime":187.73,"endTime":191.41,"body":"Now, the idea was originally that my wife and I were going"},{"startTime":191.41,"endTime":195.17,"body":"to move out to Indiana and save some cash before moving"},{"startTime":195.17,"endTime":198.93,"body":"back out to LA because, well, we both wanted to work in the film"},{"startTime":198.93,"endTime":202.2,"body":"industry and LA was the place to do that. However, as"},{"startTime":202.44,"endTime":205.08,"body":"maybe you've heard me on the podcast say, before there was a writer strike, there"},{"startTime":205.08,"endTime":208.76,"body":"was an actor strike, there just wasn't a lot of work going around. And"},{"startTime":210.68,"endTime":214.04,"body":"LA is also one of the most expensive places to live. So we thought, let's"},{"startTime":214.04,"endTime":217.72,"body":"save some cash and then we'll move back when things get better."},{"startTime":218.76,"endTime":221.32,"body":"Well, so here I am, we're driving"},{"startTime":222.44,"endTime":224.92,"body":"the morning that we are leaving California,"},{"startTime":226.56,"endTime":229.92,"body":"only temporarily, right? But still"},{"startTime":230.4,"endTime":231.92,"body":"scary. And"},{"startTime":234.32,"endTime":238.16,"body":"we're approaching the Nevada border, and I'm starting to think of,"},{"startTime":239.28,"endTime":243.08,"body":"you know, all of the. All of"},{"startTime":243.08,"endTime":246.4,"body":"the doubts start creeping into your head, is this the right decision?"},{"startTime":247.2,"endTime":248.16,"body":"What am I doing?"},{"startTime":253.69,"endTime":257.41,"body":"Am I going to regret this? All. All of those. All"},{"startTime":257.41,"endTime":259.37,"body":"of those questions, all of those doubts."},{"startTime":261.37,"endTime":265.13,"body":"So as we are approaching the California and Nevada border, going"},{"startTime":265.13,"endTime":268.77,"body":"out towards Indiana, this was at a time where,"},{"startTime":268.77,"endTime":272.17,"body":"you know, you would keep your ipod in the car so that you could"},{"startTime":272.73,"endTime":276.57,"body":"listen to music, you know, on long drive. So. And as I'm having these"},{"startTime":276.57,"endTime":280.16,"body":"thoughts, a song comes on my ipod."},{"startTime":280.24,"endTime":283.64,"body":"Now, if you were to look at all of the songs on my"},{"startTime":283.64,"endTime":286.96,"body":"ipod, it's a pretty eclectic mix of."},{"startTime":288.24,"endTime":291.8,"body":"Of music, right? Like, I have pretty much anything you could think of"},{"startTime":291.8,"endTime":295.48,"body":"from. We got heavy metal. Love"},{"startTime":295.48,"endTime":298.08,"body":"some heavy metal. A lot of classic rock."},{"startTime":299.84,"endTime":303.52,"body":"You know, we got Fleetwood Mac, we got Rush, a lot of Bob Seger,"},{"startTime":304.19,"endTime":307.15,"body":"a lot of classics. All right. There's also"},{"startTime":308.67,"endTime":311.71,"body":"movie soundtracks and some techno."},{"startTime":312.59,"endTime":316.19,"body":"Pretty much anything except for country. If you held a gun in my head,"},{"startTime":336.14,"endTime":339.1,"body":"I'd be a goner, right?"},{"startTime":340.14,"endTime":343.5,"body":"But for some reason, I have one opera song"},{"startTime":343.66,"endTime":347.46,"body":"on my ipod and I decided to come on in"},{"startTime":347.46,"endTime":350.3,"body":"this moment and the song is called"},{"startTime":351.66,"endTime":353.82,"body":"It's Time to say"},{"startTime":354.86,"endTime":358.51,"body":"Goodbye. Oh, my goodness. That's the"},{"startTime":358.51,"endTime":360.67,"body":"biggest spider I've ever seen in my entire life."},{"startTime":362.27,"endTime":365.47,"body":"Holy cow. And while I was listening to the"},{"startTime":429.82,"endTime":433.42,"body":"song, there was. There was this. There was this feeling"},{"startTime":433.5,"endTime":437.18,"body":"of peace,"},{"startTime":437.5,"endTime":440.94,"body":"there was this feeling of calm that kind of"},{"startTime":441.89,"endTime":445.33,"body":"came over me. And it"},{"startTime":445.33,"endTime":447.81,"body":"wasn't until that moment that I went from"},{"startTime":448.85,"endTime":452.29,"body":"questioning the decision that I was making. Am I making the right decision?"},{"startTime":452.69,"endTime":456.41,"body":"Am I going to regret this? Is everybody going to laugh at me? You know,"},{"startTime":456.41,"endTime":460.17,"body":"things like that to, I'm doing it, I'm already on"},{"startTime":460.17,"endTime":463.73,"body":"the way, so why not make the best of it? And"},{"startTime":463.81,"endTime":467.49,"body":"it was in that moment that I changed"},{"startTime":467.49,"endTime":470.81,"body":"from nervous"},{"startTime":470.97,"endTime":472.89,"body":"to really excited."},{"startTime":474.41,"endTime":477.29,"body":"Suddenly, all of the opportunities, all of the,"},{"startTime":478.97,"endTime":482.57,"body":"you know, you. You have your whole future in front of you, and"},{"startTime":482.73,"endTime":486.09,"body":"it was just a really, really exciting time."},{"startTime":490.25,"endTime":494.09,"body":"And I love a good fresh start, you know? Love a good fresh start. So,"},{"startTime":494.09,"endTime":497.48,"body":"as I said immediately, my mindset had. Had changed,"},{"startTime":498.84,"endTime":502.44,"body":"my perception of what was happening had changed."},{"startTime":503.32,"endTime":506.68,"body":"So we moved out to Indiana and, you know,"},{"startTime":506.68,"endTime":510.28,"body":"sometime later, after starting a photography"},{"startTime":510.28,"endTime":513.84,"body":"business, I decided to start the podcast. And the"},{"startTime":513.84,"endTime":517.68,"body":"podcast started because. Well, even though I did"},{"startTime":517.68,"endTime":521.2,"body":"go to film school and a lot of the"},{"startTime":521.2,"endTime":524.68,"body":"technicals transfer over between video and"},{"startTime":524.84,"endTime":526.6,"body":"photo, there is still"},{"startTime":528.55,"endTime":532.11,"body":"some that doesn't exactly transfer over in the same way."},{"startTime":532.11,"endTime":535.79,"body":"Like in. In the world of video, essentially, your shutter"},{"startTime":535.79,"endTime":539.43,"body":"speed is pretty much locked at, you know, at"},{"startTime":539.83,"endTime":543.67,"body":"1/40 of a second because half of that is 24,"},{"startTime":543.99,"endTime":547.03,"body":"because you're shooting at 24 frames per second. So you're either shooting"},{"startTime":548.71,"endTime":551.27,"body":"with a shutter speed of 1 48th of a second or 1 60th of a"},{"startTime":551.27,"endTime":554.23,"body":"second if you're shooting 30 FPS. But"},{"startTime":555.76,"endTime":559.48,"body":"again, a lot of the technique. So the point is there's things that"},{"startTime":559.48,"endTime":563.12,"body":"translate and things that. Not so much. And I felt like"},{"startTime":563.36,"endTime":567.2,"body":"I was just kind of winging it. And I didn't like"},{"startTime":567.2,"endTime":571.04,"body":"that idea. I felt like any moment somebody's going to figure out"},{"startTime":571.04,"endTime":574.76,"body":"that I'm a huge fraud. Oh, my God, another one. Oh, I almost walked right"},{"startTime":574.76,"endTime":578.36,"body":"into that. Oh, I don't like this now. This went from a"},{"startTime":578.36,"endTime":582.09,"body":"fun sunrise photo walk"},{"startTime":582.09,"endTime":585.73,"body":"to, I'm terrified for my life right now. I'm gonna walk right into a"},{"startTime":585.73,"endTime":589.57,"body":"Spider web. Giant spider the size of my fist is"},{"startTime":589.57,"endTime":592.17,"body":"gonna be walking on my face. Jeez."},{"startTime":594.41,"endTime":597.69,"body":"Okay, where was I? What was. I"},{"startTime":598.09,"endTime":601.57,"body":"totally lost my train of thought. Oh, right, the"},{"startTime":601.57,"endTime":605.21,"body":"podcast. Yeah. So I felt"},{"startTime":605.21,"endTime":607.13,"body":"a bit of a fraud, right? Like,"},{"startTime":609.15,"endTime":612.75,"body":"who am I to call myself this wedding photographer? And there's a."},{"startTime":612.75,"endTime":616.35,"body":"There's a good chance that I actually have no idea what I'm doing."},{"startTime":616.43,"endTime":620.19,"body":"I've had no formal education, so the podcast was a"},{"startTime":620.19,"endTime":622.67,"body":"way to start talking to other photographers"},{"startTime":623.95,"endTime":626.83,"body":"to figure out, you know, how they shoot."},{"startTime":627.63,"endTime":630.95,"body":"Because if I could find out how they shoot, then I would know pretty quickly"},{"startTime":630.95,"endTime":634.75,"body":"if I was doing it right or not. And then I can also"},{"startTime":634.75,"endTime":638.27,"body":"pick up some things that would help me to become a better, more efficient"},{"startTime":638.9,"endTime":642.34,"body":"photographer. So that's what I did. That was back in"},{"startTime":642.42,"endTime":646.02,"body":"20. Well, the end of 2015. Released the first episode in 2016."},{"startTime":646.74,"endTime":650.42,"body":"And in that time, guys. Holy cow. I cannot believe"},{"startTime":651.3,"endTime":654.02,"body":"the conversations I have been"},{"startTime":654.74,"endTime":658.46,"body":"privileged to have. Like, legitimately, some days"},{"startTime":658.46,"endTime":662.26,"body":"I still pinch myself because I can't believe I've"},{"startTime":663.7,"endTime":667.46,"body":"been able to have conversations with people who I've looked up to for years,"},{"startTime":668.18,"endTime":671.68,"body":"who, you know, there's a good"},{"startTime":671.68,"endTime":675.32,"body":"chance would not have taken the time to talk to"},{"startTime":675.32,"endTime":678.88,"body":"me unless I had a platform like the podcast."},{"startTime":681.76,"endTime":685.24,"body":"And I think that approaching the podcast with the sense of, like, curiosity, like, I"},{"startTime":685.24,"endTime":688.88,"body":"really want to know more, like, am I doing this right? Rather than"},{"startTime":689.12,"endTime":692.4,"body":"approaching it as, hey, I'm the expert. I'm going to teach you"},{"startTime":692.88,"endTime":695.52,"body":"all of these things, so you better listen to me."},{"startTime":697.24,"endTime":700.28,"body":"So one of the reasons why the podcast really started resonating"},{"startTime":701.0,"endTime":701.64,"body":"with you,"},{"startTime":704.68,"endTime":708.52,"body":"there is always something new to"},{"startTime":708.52,"endTime":711.08,"body":"learn in photography,"},{"startTime":712.04,"endTime":715.56,"body":"and that's just an exciting idea that everybody who I talk to"},{"startTime":715.8,"endTime":719.48,"body":"knows something that I don't, and I just have to find it. I just wanted to have conversations"},{"startTime":736.34,"endTime":738.18,"body":"with other photographers. That was it."},{"startTime":740.18,"endTime":744.02,"body":"How close am I to this train? Because it sounds like it's real close, but"},{"startTime":744.02,"endTime":747.82,"body":"I see no tracks. I'm"},{"startTime":747.82,"endTime":750.92,"body":"going to stay, train aware people,"},{"startTime":753.88,"endTime":757.72,"body":"and never, ever, ever, ever"},{"startTime":757.72,"endTime":761.44,"body":"shoot on train tracks, because it is not worth"},{"startTime":761.44,"endTime":765.16,"body":"it ever. It's never worth it. And I don't know,"},{"startTime":885.59,"endTime":889.43,"body":"maybe something happens where you have this big idea to go out and shoot"},{"startTime":889.43,"endTime":892.83,"body":"something, but then you realize, oh, actually I have a."},{"startTime":893.23,"endTime":897.07,"body":"I have a podcast that needs to go out on Tuesday. And then you change"},{"startTime":897.07,"endTime":900.39,"body":"your mind and. And say, okay, I'm not going to go out and shoot that"},{"startTime":900.39,"endTime":904.11,"body":"thing. What I'm going to do instead is. Is record this podcast."},{"startTime":904.59,"endTime":907.71,"body":"And just over time, I think it becomes pretty easy to"},{"startTime":908.27,"endTime":911.71,"body":"lose yourself, like, lose the reason"},{"startTime":912.43,"endTime":916.25,"body":"why you started the podcast in. In the"},{"startTime":916.25,"endTime":919.61,"body":"first place, right? Like, you just kind of drift away from it, and it's not"},{"startTime":919.61,"endTime":923.45,"body":"intentional, and it's not a bad"},{"startTime":923.45,"endTime":927.21,"body":"thing. It's just something that just naturally happens as. As it"},{"startTime":927.21,"endTime":930.53,"body":"grows. And I'll be honest with you, like, after a while, I"},{"startTime":931.09,"endTime":934.33,"body":"was starting to feel burnt out. Maybe you've heard, I've had a few episodes where"},{"startTime":934.33,"endTime":938.17,"body":"I thought or where I've, you know, taken a few weeks off"},{"startTime":938.17,"endTime":941.09,"body":"or a month off because I just needed time to"},{"startTime":941.41,"endTime":944.61,"body":"recharge, you know, and it was always in those times that"},{"startTime":945.81,"endTime":949.65,"body":"I would go out and I would recharge, and somehow"},{"startTime":950.29,"endTime":954.01,"body":"I would always find the answer. And a few"},{"startTime":954.01,"endTime":957.65,"body":"years ago, what that looked like was cloudspot. It was"},{"startTime":957.65,"endTime":960.77,"body":"Gavin from cloudspot who had suggested"},{"startTime":962.21,"endTime":963.89,"body":"helping the podcast."},{"startTime":966.29,"endTime":968.61,"body":"There we go. And. And I had asked, like, yeah,"},{"startTime":1527.0600000000002,"endTime":1530.14,"body":"well, what if you don't, you know, have. Have time for these things?
