Should I look into getting it repaired? And I want"},{"startTime":126.08,"endTime":129.8,"body":"to share a little bit about that experience real quick. And that is, I tried"},{"startTime":129.8,"endTime":133.559,"body":"to go through Fuji to get the camera repaired, but everything that I had"},{"startTime":133.559,"endTime":137.32,"body":"been reading online said that, I mean, it is a 10 year"},{"startTime":137.32,"endTime":141.04,"body":"old camera and they weren't really supporting"},{"startTime":141.84,"endTime":145.28,"body":"the repairs for an older camera. There was a lot of people"},{"startTime":145.36,"endTime":149.19,"body":"saying that they would send in their cameras for relatively minor,"},{"startTime":149.26,"endTime":152.58,"body":"minor things and they were being told that they needed to upgrade to a new"},{"startTime":152.58,"endTime":156.22,"body":"camera and I really didn't like that idea. So"},{"startTime":156.54,"endTime":160.1,"body":"I had found somebody in one of the forums that I found on Reddit who"},{"startTime":160.1,"endTime":163.94,"body":"had talked about an experience that he had had when he"},{"startTime":163.94,"endTime":167.66,"body":"Tried to get one of his cameras fixed, another Fuji camera. And"},{"startTime":167.66,"endTime":171.38,"body":"he had went through a similar situation and ended up deciding"},{"startTime":171.38,"endTime":175.1,"body":"to go through a guy, I guess, like,"},{"startTime":175.1,"endTime":178.94,"body":"there's this guy who has a business where he just repairs cameras,"},{"startTime":178.94,"endTime":182.6,"body":"I think mostly Fuji son, mostly mirrorless cameras."},{"startTime":182.92,"endTime":185.64,"body":"And I thought, what do I have to lose? So I reached out to him,"},{"startTime":185.88,"endTime":189.72,"body":"explained the problem, and then he gave me a quote of"},{"startTime":189.72,"endTime":193.16,"body":"about $400. And I had thought to myself,"},{"startTime":193.4,"endTime":197.24,"body":"man, $400. What could I do with $400?"},{"startTime":198.2,"endTime":201.8,"body":"What camera could I buy for $400? And the answer is"},{"startTime":203.0,"endTime":206.64,"body":"not many. And especially not a camera of the"},{"startTime":206.64,"endTime":209.88,"body":"caliber that the X Pro 2 is. I mean, it is built"},{"startTime":210.36,"endTime":213.7,"body":"like a tank and it fits. So. And"},{"startTime":213.78,"endTime":217.3,"body":"there's a price that I will gladly pay for a"},{"startTime":217.3,"endTime":221.06,"body":"camera that I just get right. It just makes sense."},{"startTime":221.14,"endTime":223.86,"body":"Everything about it I truly love."},{"startTime":224.74,"endTime":228.5,"body":"So since there was no other camera that I could get of comparable quality for"},{"startTime":228.5,"endTime":232.18,"body":"$400, and I've had the camera for 10 years, I thought,"},{"startTime":233.22,"endTime":236.66,"body":"yeah, it's. It's. I should just repair this thing."},{"startTime":237.06,"endTime":239.86,"body":"So that's what I did. I shipped in the camera to him."},{"startTime":240.82,"endTime":244.34,"body":"He kept sending me updates as far as what was going on with the camera."},{"startTime":245.36,"endTime":249.2,"body":"I want to give you what exactly had went wrong with it. He said,"},{"startTime":249.84,"endTime":253.52,"body":"hey, Raymond, your Fuji X Pro 2 is"},{"startTime":253.52,"endTime":257.28,"body":"repaired. And past quality control. The shutter charge"},{"startTime":257.28,"endTime":260.48,"body":"unit, which is what charges the shutter,"},{"startTime":261.76,"endTime":264.96,"body":"had been shorted, so there was some sort of electrical short,"},{"startTime":265.44,"endTime":269.16,"body":"causing both the electrical system and the shutter"},{"startTime":269.16,"endTime":272.88,"body":"actuation motor to fail, both of"},{"startTime":272.88,"endTime":276.44,"body":"which I replaced in addition to repairing the"},{"startTime":276.44,"endTime":280.28,"body":"power system on the main board. And then he sent me"},{"startTime":280.28,"endTime":283.4,"body":"this long list of things that were replaced"},{"startTime":283.88,"endTime":287.599,"body":"and cleaned as well. And the total, I'm happy to say,"},{"startTime":287.599,"endTime":291.36,"body":"only came out to $350. So it was cheaper than I"},{"startTime":291.36,"endTime":295.16,"body":"expected. And this camera came back, y'. All. I'm telling"},{"startTime":295.16,"endTime":298.52,"body":"you. It felt like I was opening a brand"},{"startTime":298.68,"endTime":302.48,"body":"new camera. I mean, it was clean, there was no dust. And it"},{"startTime":302.48,"endTime":305.38,"body":"just felt knowing that it's in"},{"startTime":305.78,"endTime":309.62,"body":"fantastic working condition. So super excited"},{"startTime":309.62,"endTime":313.34,"body":"about that. Very, very happy. And now I can get back out"},{"startTime":313.34,"endTime":317.14,"body":"to, you know, keep shooting. So the point of that"},{"startTime":317.14,"endTime":320.94,"body":"is that there are still options to get cameras fixed and"},{"startTime":320.94,"endTime":324.46,"body":"repaired. And honestly, like, if you have a, you know, like a"},{"startTime":324.46,"endTime":327.82,"body":"$600 camera, more entry level"},{"startTime":327.82,"endTime":330.74,"body":"cameras are kind of. I hate to say this, but like,"},{"startTime":331.8,"endTime":335.52,"body":"designed to. Not designed to break, but designed"},{"startTime":335.52,"endTime":338.36,"body":"to not be the most repairable thing in the world because"},{"startTime":339.24,"endTime":342.88,"body":"they have to be made with cost in mind. And therefore there's a lot of"},{"startTime":342.88,"endTime":346.36,"body":"concessions. There's more glue than screws. There's"},{"startTime":346.68,"endTime":350.12,"body":"cheaper quality parts. So when it comes time to the"},{"startTime":350.12,"endTime":353.92,"body":"labor of actually ripping apart a camera, finding the problem"},{"startTime":353.92,"endTime":356.6,"body":"and then fixing it, oftentimes it's as much,"},{"startTime":357.93,"endTime":360.81,"body":"if not just a bit less than the camera itself."},{"startTime":361.45,"endTime":364.33,"body":"However, buying higher quality gear,"},{"startTime":365.45,"endTime":368.97,"body":"yes, it is more expensive, but when it comes time to"},{"startTime":369.13,"endTime":372.73,"body":"repair it, it's much easier and it's much more cost"},{"startTime":372.73,"endTime":376.09,"body":"effective because, well, they're made to be."},{"startTime":376.65,"endTime":379.77,"body":"So am I suggesting that you should go out and buy a brand new super"},{"startTime":379.77,"endTime":383.58,"body":"expensive camera? No, I'm not. But when the"},{"startTime":383.58,"endTime":387.14,"body":"time comes and you say, you know what, it is time for me to upgrade,"},{"startTime":387.14,"endTime":390.94,"body":"there's things about this camera that are holding me back from achieving the"},{"startTime":390.94,"endTime":393.78,"body":"images that I want to capture or create."},{"startTime":394.58,"endTime":397.86,"body":"It may not be a bad idea to"},{"startTime":398.179,"endTime":401.78,"body":"spend a little bit more on a higher quality camera in case something"},{"startTime":402.26,"endTime":405.86,"body":"does go wrong. Right? Like, don't be scared to spend money"},{"startTime":405.86,"endTime":409.7,"body":"on the tools that will help you to achieve"},{"startTime":410.65,"endTime":413.93,"body":"the end result. I'm not saying spending all the money and that money shouldn't be,"},{"startTime":414.09,"endTime":417.29,"body":"you know, as consideration at all, but"},{"startTime":418.01,"endTime":421.13,"body":"sometimes spending more makes the process"},{"startTime":421.61,"endTime":424.73,"body":"of creating images a lot better. Don't expect better image quality"},{"startTime":425.61,"endTime":429.13,"body":"that may come, but don't expect that. Expect a better"},{"startTime":429.21,"endTime":432.97,"body":"experience when shooting. All right, how about we go"},{"startTime":432.97,"endTime":436.65,"body":"ahead and get on into these questions? All right, my first"},{"startTime":436.65,"endTime":440.37,"body":"question here comes from Peggy. Peggy says, I"},{"startTime":440.37,"endTime":444.19,"body":"keep seeing people online saying that if you want to take,"},{"startTime":444.19,"endTime":447.71,"body":"quote, real photos, then you need these"},{"startTime":447.71,"endTime":451.19,"body":"crazy expensive lenses that are like $2,000 plus"},{"startTime":451.59,"endTime":455.31,"body":"my camera only costs $600. We're just talking about this."},{"startTime":455.31,"endTime":458.55,"body":"How do people even afford them? And are they actually"},{"startTime":458.63,"endTime":462.47,"body":"necessary to become a better photographer? All right, yeah,"},{"startTime":462.47,"endTime":465.35,"body":"Peggy, great, great, great, great question."},{"startTime":466.23,"endTime":469.99,"body":"So first of all, are they necessary to become a"},{"startTime":469.99,"endTime":471.75,"body":"better photographer? Better"},{"startTime":474.05,"endTime":477.57,"body":"term. Right. But I would say no. No, they're not."},{"startTime":477.81,"endTime":481.33,"body":"I've said this plenty of times on the podcast before. Moment matters"},{"startTime":481.33,"endTime":484.85,"body":"most, right? You can take a fantastic photo"},{"startTime":484.93,"endTime":488.53,"body":"of a great moment with a cell"},{"startTime":488.53,"endTime":492.01,"body":"phone and the photo will speak to so many more people and"},{"startTime":492.01,"endTime":495.17,"body":"resonate with them more than a photo that was"},{"startTime":495.97,"endTime":499.73,"body":"a boring moment or not interesting, but it was taken with very"},{"startTime":499.73,"endTime":503.45,"body":"expensive gear. So therefore, no, you"},{"startTime":503.45,"endTime":506.75,"body":"don't need these super expensive lense, you know,"},{"startTime":507.31,"endTime":511.15,"body":"become a better photographer. And I remember when I"},{"startTime":511.15,"endTime":514.35,"body":"had first decided to, well, when I was still in film school,"},{"startTime":515.07,"endTime":518.35,"body":"it was hard to shoot a lot of video because"},{"startTime":518.99,"endTime":522.59,"body":"the cameras that I was planning on using in"},{"startTime":522.59,"endTime":526.35,"body":"my career would be cinema cameras that at the"},{"startTime":526.35,"endTime":528.43,"body":"time were film and Therefore,"},{"startTime":530.51,"endTime":534.04,"body":"it just wasn't as easy to create video as it is today,"},{"startTime":534.12,"endTime":537.32,"body":"right? And my job was going to be working with"},{"startTime":537.64,"endTime":541.24,"body":"cameras, not necessarily owning a camera. Anyway, it doesn't matter."},{"startTime":541.32,"endTime":545.0,"body":"So what I did was I bought a Canon Rebel"},{"startTime":545.0,"endTime":548.479,"body":"XT because I know that a lot of the"},{"startTime":548.479,"endTime":552.16,"body":"technicals still transfer over aperture, shutter speed, ISO, these are all"},{"startTime":552.16,"endTime":555.96,"body":"considerations to your exposure. And therefore I knew that"},{"startTime":555.96,"endTime":559.77,"body":"if I could adjust those things, literally in my everyday life, I"},{"startTime":559.77,"endTime":563.61,"body":"could practice being better at creating images"},{"startTime":563.61,"endTime":567.37,"body":"and seeing light. So the camera came with"},{"startTime":567.37,"endTime":570.93,"body":"a 18 to 55 stock zoom"},{"startTime":570.93,"endTime":574.41,"body":"lens, right? Known as not the best. It's"},{"startTime":574.41,"endTime":578.25,"body":"mostly made out of plastic. And I remember thinking, I do"},{"startTime":578.25,"endTime":581.93,"body":"want better quality images than just a lens that's made out of"},{"startTime":581.93,"endTime":585.57,"body":"plastic. So that's when I looked into what are my other options"},{"startTime":585.66,"endTime":589.29,"body":"and everybody was suggesting the 50 mil. I knew"},{"startTime":589.29,"endTime":591.17,"body":"that I liked the 50 mil when dealing with"},{"startTime":593.09,"endTime":596.85,"body":"video, specifically in cinema. So I thought, okay, I'll look into the 50."},{"startTime":597.01,"endTime":600.65,"body":"And what I found was three options. There was a 50 millimeter"},{"startTime":600.65,"endTime":604.45,"body":"lens that was $99. Okay, it was 50mm f"},{"startTime":604.45,"endTime":607.33,"body":"1.8. And then there was a 50mm 1.4"},{"startTime":608.05,"endTime":611.85,"body":"that was $400. And that seemed"},{"startTime":611.85,"endTime":615.33,"body":"crazy because it's like, wait, it's only a third of a stop. It only allows"},{"startTime":615.33,"endTime":618.95,"body":"in a third of a stop more light and it four times the"},{"startTime":618.95,"endTime":622.31,"body":"price. But then it got even crazier because then there was a 50 millimeter"},{"startTime":622.31,"endTime":626.11,"body":"1.2 that was 2 grand. And I thought,"},{"startTime":626.83,"endTime":630.67,"body":"wow, that's another just 1/3 stop of light"},{"startTime":630.91,"endTime":634.19,"body":"and now it's $2,000. That is"},{"startTime":634.43,"endTime":638.19,"body":"bananas to me. However, when you"},{"startTime":638.19,"endTime":641.55,"body":"look at the three, right? Good, better, best, it's not"},{"startTime":641.55,"endTime":645.27,"body":"necessarily just do you want the best image quality? What you also"},{"startTime":645.27,"endTime":649.03,"body":"have to consider is things like what are you using this for? Are you a"},{"startTime":649.03,"endTime":652.77,"body":"profess? Because if I'm a professional, I'm going"},{"startTime":652.77,"endTime":656.05,"body":"to be willing to spend more, as I was just saying, on my camera gear"},{"startTime":656.05,"endTime":659.29,"body":"because I know that it's going to be of a better build quality."},{"startTime":659.61,"endTime":662.57,"body":"So who knows where I'm going to be taking this camera."},{"startTime":663.37,"endTime":667.17,"body":"Could be crazy conditions. And I need to know that it's going to stand"},{"startTime":667.17,"endTime":670.81,"body":"up wherever I take it. But then also there is"},{"startTime":670.81,"endTime":673.77,"body":"things like image quality. When you have a $100"},{"startTime":674.57,"endTime":677.84,"body":"plastic 50 millimeter 1.8 lens,"},{"startTime":678.16,"endTime":681.76,"body":"you aren't going to get the best image quality. Specifically in high"},{"startTime":681.76,"endTime":685.28,"body":"contrast scenes, there's a lot of what's called chromatic aberration."},{"startTime":685.6,"endTime":689.44,"body":"However, with glass, which is what the full construction is going"},{"startTime":689.44,"endTime":692.96,"body":"to be Made out of in a $2,000 lens, the image"},{"startTime":692.96,"endTime":696.8,"body":"quality is going to be much better. Now, is it going to be"},{"startTime":696.8,"endTime":700.32,"body":"so much better that somebody just quickly scrolling on Instagram is going to"},{"startTime":700.32,"endTime":703.29,"body":"notice? No, it's not."},{"startTime":704.33,"endTime":707.53,"body":"The $100.50 millimeter 1.8 and the"},{"startTime":707.53,"endTime":711.37,"body":"$2,000.50 millimeter 1.2 will look"},{"startTime":711.93,"endTime":713.05,"body":"identical to"},{"startTime":713.13,"endTime":716.57,"body":"99.9999% of people,"},{"startTime":717.13,"endTime":720.93,"body":"honestly probably including myself, who are just scrolling on"},{"startTime":720.93,"endTime":724.01,"body":"Instagram quickly looking at photos."},{"startTime":758.51,"endTime":762.35,"body":"But if you're a professional and you have a very specific use"},{"startTime":762.35,"endTime":766.2,"body":"case, then yes, that lens makes sense. But do you need it"},{"startTime":766.2,"endTime":770.0,"body":"to take great photos? No, absolutely not. Absolutely not."},{"startTime":770.8,"endTime":774.24,"body":"In fact, some of my favorite photos that I've ever taken have been on"},{"startTime":774.32,"endTime":778.16,"body":"the $100.50 millimeter 1.8 nifty"},{"startTime":778.16,"endTime":782.0,"body":"50 canon lens because it's fantastic. And if you"},{"startTime":782.0,"endTime":785.72,"body":"know how to see light right, and you shoot"},{"startTime":785.72,"endTime":789.52,"body":"in the right situations, which you only know what are the quote,"},{"startTime":789.52,"endTime":793.2,"body":"right situations by shooting a lot and finding out, oh, that doesn't work"},{"startTime":793.2,"endTime":796.23,"body":"and oh, that does work, then you can get"},{"startTime":796.23,"endTime":800.03,"body":"incredible results. At the time, I had friends"},{"startTime":800.03,"endTime":803.71,"body":"who were actors and I took their headshots and they loved"},{"startTime":803.71,"endTime":807.47,"body":"them and they booked work right, with the"},{"startTime":807.47,"endTime":811.03,"body":"photos that they used in their headshots. I'm not saying that the headshots"},{"startTime":811.27,"endTime":815.11,"body":"were the reason why they got the work, but somebody looked at"},{"startTime":815.11,"endTime":818.79,"body":"those photos and didn't think to themselves, wow, what was this? Just a"},{"startTime":818.79,"endTime":822.46,"body":"hundred dollar lens. No thank you. And then threw it out, right? Like they"},{"startTime":822.46,"endTime":825.66,"body":"still were able to get work with a, with a very cheap"},{"startTime":826.14,"endTime":829.5,"body":"kit. So if you're new in your journey and you don't know"},{"startTime":829.66,"endTime":833.46,"body":"if you should spend $2,000 on a lens, the answer is no,"},{"startTime":833.46,"endTime":837.02,"body":"you shouldn't. Because you, you clearly don't have a need"},{"startTime":837.42,"endTime":840.98,"body":"or understanding as to why that lens is $2,000. And"},{"startTime":840.98,"endTime":844.38,"body":"that's fine. That may come in the future, but it's not here today."},{"startTime":845.1,"endTime":848.46,"body":"So, you know, spend the hundred dollars on a lens,"},{"startTime":849.46,"endTime":853.22,"body":"that's fine. And another thing to consider is also renting,"},{"startTime":853.7,"endTime":857.38,"body":"right? You don't have to spend $2,000 on the lens"},{"startTime":857.38,"endTime":861.14,"body":"to realize, oh, this is actually, you know, it gets"},{"startTime":861.14,"endTime":864.9,"body":"me 99% of the way there as"},{"startTime":864.9,"endTime":868.54,"body":"my 50mm 1.8 lens, I had done that before. I"},{"startTime":868.54,"endTime":871.9399999999999,"body":"had bought gear and realized, oh, this is"},{"startTime":872.66,"endTime":876.26,"body":"too much for me. I spent way too much on this and I don't"},{"startTime":876.95,"endTime":880.79,"body":"really need this. I could have spent my money in way"},{"startTime":880.79,"endTime":884.63,"body":"better places. So specifically, the. One"},{"startTime":884.63,"endTime":888.47,"body":"of the things that I did for weddings is for the 70 to 200. Right."},{"startTime":888.55,"endTime":892.349,"body":"Using a 70 to 200 millimeter lens is great for weddings because it's a"},{"startTime":892.349,"endTime":895.83,"body":"consistent aperture. It's. It's sharp, it's fast."},{"startTime":895.83,"endTime":899.35,"body":"However, like $2,300. Now, I"},{"startTime":899.35,"endTime":902.91,"body":"only used the 70 to 200 during the"},{"startTime":903.39,"endTime":907.1899999999999,"body":"ceremony, right? Because that's the only time where I was relatively"},{"startTime":907.1899999999999,"endTime":909.87,"body":"far away from the couple. The rest of the day, I'm very close. I'm using"},{"startTime":909.87,"endTime":913.39,"body":"either my 35 or my 85 millimeter lens. So did I"},{"startTime":913.39,"endTime":917.15,"body":"spend $2,500 buying that lens? No,"},{"startTime":917.15,"endTime":920.35,"body":"I didn't. I just rented the lens because"},{"startTime":920.91,"endTime":924.63,"body":"that was the only time that I needed it. And if I"},{"startTime":924.63,"endTime":928.27,"body":"was outdoors where there was plenty of light, I knew that I could rent"},{"startTime":928.27,"endTime":932.04,"body":"a. A lower version. Right."},{"startTime":932.04,"endTime":935.8,"body":"Canon also made a 70 to 200 f4 lens."},{"startTime":936.12,"endTime":939.64,"body":"So it's one stop slower. It lets in one stop less light."},{"startTime":940.4399999999999,"endTime":944.2,"body":"But if you're outdoors, that's still plenty of light. And I was able to"},{"startTime":944.2,"endTime":947.8,"body":"capture fantastic photos, and it cost me way less. So look"},{"startTime":947.8,"endTime":951.52,"body":"into renting versus buying, because, again, you can"},{"startTime":951.52,"endTime":954.88,"body":"save a ton of money by doing that. Okay. There's two other considerations to"},{"startTime":2611.96,"endTime":2615.6000000000004,"body":"factor in here when we're talking about crop and full frame cameras. Let's say that"},{"startTime":2615.6000000000004,"endTime":2619.4,"body":"you have a full frame camera that is 24 megapixels and you"},{"startTime":2619.4,"endTime":2622.6000000000004,"body":"have a crop sensor camera that is also 24"},{"startTime":2622.6000000000004,"endTime":2626.28,"body":"megapixels. These, these cameras produce images that are the"},{"startTime":2626.28,"endTime":2629.96,"body":"exact same size. However, a crop sensor camera"},{"startTime":2629.96,"endTime":2633.0800000000004,"body":"has to fit all 24 million pixels on"},{"startTime":2633.8,"endTime":2637.2400000000002,"body":"an area that's half as large as a full frame"},{"startTime":2638.1600000000003,"endTime":2641.76,"body":"sensor. Now what does that mean? So there are really"},{"startTime":2684.26,"endTime":2688.1000000000004,"body":"two different reasons because they, they both have their advantages"},{"startTime":2688.1000000000004,"endTime":2691.8500000000004,"body":"and disadvantages. The advantages of a full"},{"startTime":2691.8500000000004,"endTime":2695.13,"body":"frame camera is that again, it's typically better in low light situations."},{"startTime":2695.3700000000003,"endTime":2699.09,"body":"It's typically better for things like portraits or landscapes"},{"startTime":2699.09,"endTime":2702.65,"body":"where you need either a larger field of view or you need to get"},{"startTime":2702.65,"endTime":2706.3300000000004,"body":"closer to your subject.
