Sit Around The Fire

The 8 types of Love (there's 8?!) why you need to understand them & how to cultivate them in your life for lasting happiness with Maggie Paterson

Robbie Paterson

Welcome back to SIT AROUND THE FIRE!

Today I am joined by a very special guest... the person with the biggest heart that I've ever met... Maggie Devlin, or wait, it's Maggie Paterson now!

This episode was inspired by both of us experiencing an overwhelming high volume of love during our wedding week in Scotland July 2023... and the podcast idea came from a conversation on our honeymoon in Croatia!

As always, please subscribe, leave a review, and share with a friend whom this may encourage or support.

The convo goes from 1-1.15, then from 1.15-1.30 a short guided Metta Meditation.

Hope you can take some time for yourself and enjoy!

This episode discusses the 8 different types of love according to the ancient Greeks, and to two newlyweds...

These are: Eros (passionate love), Philia (deep friendship), Ludus (playful love), Agape (selfless love), Pragma (practical love), Mania (obsessive love), Philautia (self-love), and Storge (familial love).

Each type of love has its own unique characteristics and can be experienced in different ways.

For example, Eros is often characterized by physical attraction and passion, while Philia is based on mutual respect, trust, and shared interests.

The convo also spans the importance of Self-love, or philautia. Self-love is essential for having healthy relationships with others, and it is often seen as a prerequisite for agape, or selfless love.

How to tap into Self Love & compassion? Check out https://www.omalameditation.com/ for more info.

We will talk about the characteristics of each type of love and how they can be experienced.

We will also discuss the importance of self-love and how it can contribute to healthy relationships.

Here are some of the key takeaways from this episode:

  • There are many different types of love, each with its own unique characteristics.
  • The type of love that we experience can vary depending on the person, the relationship, and the circumstances.
  • Self-love is essential for having healthy relationships with others.

I hope you enjoy the podcast!
