«Viewpoints» is the latest podcast and news magazine produced by the Community Radio Fund of Canada. It provides an overview of what’s happening across Canada, thanks to some 20 radio reporters posted across the country (British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, North West Territories, Québec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) and working for the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI). The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) supports the production of original civic journalism news content that covers the diverse needs of underserved communities across Canada. Politics, society, environment, community, arts and culture take the air on «Viewpoints» hosted by Boris Chassagne. The Community Radio Fund of Canada works in collaboration with the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC).

On today’s show, I will be out and journalist Mike McCulloch will be in, with a documentary produced in Abbotsford, British Columbia. It has been more than eight years since public health officials in British Columbia sounded the alarm… that users of illicit drugs were dying at greater rates than historically observed. Today, more than 15,000 people have died in the province since B.C. declared the toxic
drug overdose death crisis, a public health emergency, in April 2016.
Thanks so much to Mike McCulloch and his many guests for filling in for us this week. Mike works out of Abbotsford, BC. Mike will also be with us again next week with another story about musician Shamir Virgo. Do not miss his beautiful documentary. Viewpoints is brought to you by the Community Radio Fund of Canada with the support of the Local Journalism Initiative.
