«Viewpoints» is the latest podcast and news magazine produced by the Community Radio Fund of Canada. It provides an overview of what’s happening across Canada, thanks to some 20 radio reporters posted across the country (British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, North West Territories, Québec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) and working for the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI). The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) supports the production of original civic journalism news content that covers the diverse needs of underserved communities across Canada. Politics, society, environment, community, arts and culture take the air on «Viewpoints» hosted by Boris Chassagne. The Community Radio Fund of Canada works in collaboration with the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC).

This episode is a rerun. Journalist Pamela Haasen will take over this episode of Viewpoints, with a documentary produced in Smithers, British Columbia. And we’ll stay outdoors with her and her guests, contemplating the great scenery of BC’s Witset Canyon. That is where Abigail Joseph, goes fishing for salmon. This documentary discusses salmon returns and climate change through the eyes of one young Indigenous woman just hoping to catch enough fish to feed her family this winter. We’ll hear the sound of the waves crashing against the canyon walls, salmon flopping on the water, and Abigail telling us about her life.
Thanks so much to Pamela Haasen and her many guests for filling in for us this week. A great documentary about people doing unusual things while keeping traditions alive. Viewpoints is brought to you by the Community Radio Fund of Canada with the support of the Local Journalism Initiative. Producer Boris Chassagne.
