What's up everybody? Welcome back to the next set fancy football podcast. My name is Jake, and I'm once again joined by the coach Adam. Adam, how are you?
SPEAKER_00Good, how are you, brother?
SPEAKER_01Just living the dream, man.
SPEAKER_00It's living the dream.
SPEAKER_01You know, look at you. We're thriving.
SPEAKER_00Thri thriving, huh?
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know about thriving. It's been a last week was busy. Sorry for the missed episode, folks. But uh life happened.
SPEAKER_00When life gives you lemons, man.
SPEAKER_01Get a new air conditioner.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there you go. You heard it here first, folks.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. Um, but we're back. Um gonna go through the AFC here. We're gonna do the AFC North.
SPEAKER_00Uh wait, wait, I've got a I've got a real quick surprise question.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just what's your go-to at Quick Trip? I don't know if we ever asked this question on the show. I was just thinking about it today. Huh?
SPEAKER_01What's a quick trip?
SPEAKER_00A quick trip. You don't know what a quick trip is?
SPEAKER_01Well, I know what a quick trip is, but to the people.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I get I guess we have a wide listening range. A quick trip is the staple gas station of Wisconsin.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure uh look according to the statistics, we have someone that listens in Germany every week. That's true.
SPEAKER_00Yes, one guy. I don't know who he is. Hello. Hello.
SPEAKER_01Um sorry about the World Cup. Uh yes, sorry about that. Sorry about that. Um go to uh I love getting gas from Quick Trip. Umuts. They uh Quick Trip's known for their hot food. Yes, you can go there for dinner. It's great.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm alluding to.
SPEAKER_01Yes. They're good chicken, good chicken.
SPEAKER_00Yep, chicken sandwich every time. The crispy chicken sandwich.
SPEAKER_01Just had a mozzarella stick, mozzarella sticks from them today.
SPEAKER_00They're good.
SPEAKER_01They are good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there you go. Quick trip, friends of the pod, right?
SPEAKER_01Friends of the pod. Sponsor us, please. Um, this will be a quicker episode. One, because we have something we have to do after this that's a little pressing. And also, as Adam said, he hates the AFC North. Hates them.
SPEAKER_00I've hated them since I was a little kid. I think it's boring football, which is fun for defensive-minded people. Not a fan.
SPEAKER_01Boring football in the AFC North. He's out on the AFC North.
SPEAKER_00I'm out. I never like watching him.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, we do not have a listener question today. Um I just forgot to download one for full transparency.
SPEAKER_00Busy life this week, man.
SPEAKER_01But if you want to uh if you want to have a question read on here, go to our speakpipe.com. Or slash next step fancy football podcast. Or find us on find it on Facebook. Um there's links to all that stuff. Uh why don't we just jump into it then? Of the AFC North, which team do you hate the most?
SPEAKER_00It would have to be the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think that the Dallas Cowboys of the AFC men. Except better. Except better.
SPEAKER_01Unlike the day okay. Unlike the Dallas Cowboys there, well, why don't we talk about their quarterbacks? Unlike the Dallas Cowboys who I love Dak Prescott.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01And as a pack as the Packers Packer f former the Packer fan of the group here, we're gonna start with Aaron Rodgers, who we've talked about him so so much over the last like five years.
SPEAKER_00Sadly we have, yes.
SPEAKER_01Um, is there anyone I'd rather get a drink with less? No.
SPEAKER_00You don't want to pick his mind about ayahuasca and I do not.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to pick his mind on anything. He's the type of person that could probably just sit there and talk and talk and talk and not even realize that you just want to leave.
SPEAKER_00He thinks he's Yoda, man.
SPEAKER_01And then and then as soon as you're like, well, just finish my drink. I think I'm gonna head out. He's like, one more.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, let me let me tell you.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Anyways, finishes quarterback 18. He's currently being undrafted. Um, why don't you talk about Aaron Rodgers?
SPEAKER_00Uh, he's fun to watch at times, flash in the pan moments where you're like, man, vintage Rodgers. Uh and then you realize he's just dumping it off on underneath crossers, slants to DK Metcalf, and DK's getting all the yards after the catch. And you know, the Rogers of Old is dead and gone. Uh don't draft him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, he he um he averaged last year something like three yards a completion. He was really dumping it off, which is pretty nuts. Um we'll talk about here, but or not.
SPEAKER_00I mean, the dude's 42, so it's understandable, I guess.
SPEAKER_01It's just not what you want. Here, I will say, though, the only upside, the only upside to Aaron Rodgers, in my opinion, is the fact that if you have to stream someone, he offers a decent floor, right? Yeah, he's probably gonna get two touchdowns every game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, his stat line will be somewhere around 22 touchdowns, like 11 picks. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, yeah, so I mean it it's a safer play, but it's not a good one. It's it's uh it's gross. Like, feel bad about it.
SPEAKER_00He could be a streamer, you know, late if you need him for a bye week stream or something.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, but he's not someone you should draft. Like when you're drafting a backup quarterback, if you decide to go that route, there are there's just no upside there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's so many others.
SPEAKER_01Give me yeah, give me Bryce Young, Malik, Malik Willis, you know. Yes, CJ Stroud, any of these guys that are going undrafted right now. It's like I'd rather him and Geno Smith are practically the same person. It's just like I have no interest in that, you know. Yeah, um, going to the running back. I wrote down Jalen Ward and he's going as running back 16, or I'm sorry, he finished as running back 16, going in the seventh round with the seventh pick, and then they also sound or assigned Rico Dowdle, who's going one pick later with at the 708. So, what are you doing with this backfield?
SPEAKER_00I'm not touching it because of what happened to Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle last year. Um, it's the same same little situation for all you Jalen Warren fans out there. Don't touch him. Uh Doddle will get carries. I think he'll surpass Warren eventually. Um, Doddle's kind of fun. So, I mean, I actually lean Doddle's way because of the history of him just taking snaps and eventually taking jobs, you know.
SPEAKER_01I you know, Doddle has two straight thousand-yard receivers or thousand-yard rushing seasons. Um I'll take one if it's later, if they've fallen, right? If everyone's agreeing and now we're in the tenth, it's like okay, okay, give me one. The upside there for me is one, Aaron Rodgers will probably dump it off a lot. And two, if one of them gets hurt, the other one is a bell cow, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I don't want him as my I don't know, I don't want either as my running back three. I mean, that's where he's being drafted, as you're running back.
SPEAKER_00I'd take Cam Scattaboo over both of them.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's going a heck of a lot earlier. But yeah, guys going around them are Chuba Hubbard, Ramandre, um I would take Hubbard, Beyald Tutan, uh, Tony Pollard.
SPEAKER_00I mean, these are guys that you've you're supposed to feel kind of gross about taking, but yeah, you know, I mean if you're if you're going for a third running back at this point, those are the guys you're picking between, you're already kind of, I think, at a loss.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like that's a good point. I think I'd rather wait three rounds and take Bill Krosky Merritt and Aaron Aaron Jones, right? Like JK Dobbins is going in the ninth. Like, I'd rather have that than deal with this headache. In fantasy, I like guys who are going you know are going to give you production, or you just know what's gonna happen, right? I hate because you know everybody's been there. You know you're gonna draft Jalen Warren and he's gonna sit on your bench, and the first time you have to put him in, that's the day Rico Donald's gonna be amazing, or vice versa. That's just how it happens. Uh so no thanks. Um I think individually though, if he if the other one wasn't there, it's a lot more intriguing.
SPEAKER_00It is. Yep, if it was just a solo Jalen Warren show, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh DK Metcalf finishes wide receiver 35, going in the ninth. Um, I'm sorry, he finishes 26, he's going as 35 in the ninth. I think uh he is hurt by the fact that Aaron Rodgers doesn't push the ball down the field.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01But I like talent there. So as a wide receiver four, DK Metcalf, I feel really good. I think that's probably my favorite thing here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't got a lot to say about him other than he's Mr. Consistent, he does everything right. Like, I don't think you know he stays out of trouble. He's gonna be always on the field. Um knock on wood, but knock on wood, yeah. The other one is intriguing to me. The the other receiver.
SPEAKER_01Oh, which would be Michael Pittman Michael Pittman going in the 12th round, so three rounds later.
SPEAKER_00Yep. I think again, there's a guy that's handicapped by not having the production downfield. So both guys, good solid options for a three or four receiver, but not a guy you should reach on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, guys going around DK um within three or four. Um uh Brian Thomas Jr., I want the upside there. Brian uh Marvin Harrison, I want the upside there. Jordan Tyson, I'd rather have the rookie because we don't know. But then it's like Mikai Lemon, I'd rather have him. But then you know, you get older guys, I'd rather have DK than Cortlandson, you know.
SPEAKER_00So uh yep.
SPEAKER_01And then Pat Firemouth, why does he or tight end 24 is undrafted? Let it be.
SPEAKER_00Don't want to talk about him.
SPEAKER_01All right, moving on to the Ravens. Lamar Jackson had a hurt year last year. I first time I ever drafted him, and it bit me in the butt. Um currently the second quarterback taken, going in the fifth round, right next to Drake May, who's going right next to him. Um, we've talked about when we want to take quarterbacks. I've got I've gotten to a point now where I if you want to take one in the fifth, just do it. Last year he was going in the third. So I mean, if you if you want to compare it to last year's draft, you're getting a deal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Quarterbacks are being pushed down than more than they were last year. So and Lamar Jackson, the rushing, you just know, like, he has a chance to go for an MVP again and be amazing. So I don't there's really not much. He has the injury risk, he's a running quarterback.
SPEAKER_00Yep. At this point in his career, what is he 30 now?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00I mean, which is crazy, but uh you know, I I like Lamar Jackson a lot. Uh never been as hyped as other people about him, but he has that upside, and he will if he's healthy. So I think if you love him in the fifth, go ahead and pull the trigger.
SPEAKER_01My thing is there are five quarterbacks, you know, Alan Jackson, May, Burrow, Daniels, Hurt. No, I'm not gonna add Hurt. So Alan Jackson, May, Burrow, Daniels, and then there's a tear break, right? Like that's where if you don't get one of those five, you wait.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, or pull the trigger on Bonex, whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. Yeah, but fine. Pull pull pull that trigger in the 17th round. You know? So but I mean that's a that's a good thing to say because it's like, yeah, you get one of these guys and they're really good and it's really exciting, right? And then the guy who won MVP last year is going in the 16th round, Matthew Stafford.
SPEAKER_00Just based on how leagues are set up, though, right? You can get away with drafting a Bonex, a Stafford later, a uh Sam Darnold that will not hurt or maybe win you games, but they're gonna be solid and consistent, and most leagues are set up where quarterbacks aren't gonna make or break you anyway, typically.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so if you're in a six-point QB per touchdown league, like we are in our home league, it matters more, I think. Like it just does, right? Like Joe Burrow throwing for third, third, 40 touchdowns versus Nick's throwing for 25 is very different, you know. So just look at your settings. Uh Derrick Henry, father time. Does he get him this year? That's the question. Going as eight, finishes running back seven.
SPEAKER_00I remember last year I said it was one more year, and he had that one more year. I am going to stick to my guns. It's over. I loved King Henry in his prime. I think this is the year where he regresses to like a goal line short yardage back where he's used for for points there with the the goal line, but ultimately um I don't think he's gonna be the Bal Cow that we're used to seeing from King Henry. The king is dead.
SPEAKER_01Well, the the issue for me is I really like him. I like him. I think he's I'm I'm willing to take him the second round, and if Father Time gets him finally, then so be it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, if I'm taking Derrick Henry, it's like okay, you you just have to be aware of how your draft is going, right?
SPEAKER_00People did this with Adrian Peterson back in the day.
SPEAKER_01You know, you know, okay, I took Derrick Henry. I might want to later on in the fifth or sixth or whatever. Oh, I'm debating between receiver and running back. You might want to take the running back just in case, right? The issue for him right now is his ADP has him going around Devon Ham, Omarion Hampton, Kenneth Walker, Saquon Barkley, and they're all younger and like you know, so you might lean that way.
SPEAKER_00They're guys with gas in the tank, you know.
SPEAKER_01I think his ADP might drop a little just based off that. But uh, what I'll say is just be aware of Father Time. It's undefeated. So it's a nervous pick. Um, I'd probably take all those guys I just said over him. Um if father time doesn't get him, he's gonna be a top seven running back.
SPEAKER_00Right. Now, like a member of the Senate, I relinquish my time for these next two guys. You go ahead and talk about him.
SPEAKER_01Sure. Uh he's just gonna be quiet for the next two minutes.
SPEAKER_00He's gonna be quiet. Yep. All right.
SPEAKER_01Zay Flowers finished as wide receiver seven, which is just shocking. Um, currently going as wide receiver 17 in the fourth round, uh, right around guys uh Tet McMillian, McMillian, Tet McMillan, T. Higgins, uh uh Emeka Eggbuka.
SPEAKER_00All right, I gotta say something. I'm sorry, I will take my time back. Uh take all those guys over Zay Flowers. Cautionary tale. Stay away from Zay.
SPEAKER_01I like Zay Flowers.
SPEAKER_00I know you do.
SPEAKER_01I do. You know, 1200 yards last year. I mean, a guy who finishes as what as the wide receiver seven being drafted 10 running wide receivers after that is unique. If you took the name out and you said, hey, here's this 1,200 yard receiver who had, I don't have it right here, but who had probably I can find out, uh you know, a 1200 yard receiver who had a bunch of touchdowns, and you didn't tell me it was Zay Flowers, you would feel so much better. Am I wrong? No, you're right. I know it's crazy. Um but it's nerve-wracking. I get it. He had 1200 yards and five touchdowns. So it wasn't on 86 catches. So it's it's not but that just goes to show you the difference between wide receiver seven and wide receiver one, who was Puka, who had 129 catches, 1700 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
SPEAKER_00So no new coach coming in, so they could use him better.
SPEAKER_01Correct. Uh he's a nervous pick. That's what it is. He's a nervous pick. I feel I feel okay with him as my wide receiver two. That's just me personally. I understand if you don't. I love him as your wide receiver three if you can make that happen. But yeah, that'd be good. It'd be good, but I don't know if that's really foreseeable, but it's possible. Uh Rashad Bateman, their wide receiver two right now. He's wide receiver 101 last year. He's going undrafted, let it be. Mark Andrews is their tight end, is go was tight end 16 being drafted as tight end 13. Fine. He's one of those older guys. He's going undrafted pretty much. Okay, fine. He that's more fun if you drafted Lamar.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. He's a good backup at this point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh on fantasy anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if you want my fantasy opinion, is we'll get to tips and tricks later on. Um, all right, moving to the Browns. Let's do that one quick because that'll be really fast. Right now I have Shadur Sanders as the quarterback. Um, quarterback 39 going undrafted. That's the betting odds. Um, but it's it's 50-50. The point is you're probably not taking either of the quarterbacks.
SPEAKER_00Um who's the other one, Jake?
SPEAKER_01Who's the other one? Who?
SPEAKER_00Who's the other quarterback?
SPEAKER_01Uh, you tell me.
SPEAKER_00Deshaun Watson.
SPEAKER_01Deshaun Watson. I and I just I just won't I no I know you didn't want to say his name. I I I got in trouble last time I talked about him like years ago.
SPEAKER_00So I I feel like we're gonna have to talk about him this year. I think he's gonna take the job and keep it.
SPEAKER_01Good for him. Uh Quinch Quinch Quinchon Junkins uh finishes why does she or running back 21, sorry, 26 being drafted as running back 21 in the fifth round. I really like him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_01Um, I love the fact that he's a Bel Cow. That's I want him over Bucky. I want him over David Montgomery. Do you want him over Travian Henderson?
SPEAKER_00Yes, I do. And it's because of Todd Munkin, the new head coach, is kind of an old school ground and pound kind of guy. Uh, I think a lot of the the the Browns offense is gonna be revolving around Judkins and then play action game, especially if it's Shadur back there. Um, so I I like I like Judkins. I think he's gonna get high volume, and again the receiving core, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, would you take him over Cam Scadaboo?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that's right there where he's at. Would you take him over Travis Etienne?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Would you take him over Javante?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Would you take him over Brees Hall?
SPEAKER_00Nope.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so you are this is actually updated right now as I'm clicking it. Uh he actually has an ADP of sixth round. So you are like off full two rounds higher than him. So where he's going. So I mean, that's where you that you know, go through these this these lists and identify where you've got to be.
SPEAKER_00If you like a guy, go put him accordingly.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Uh the receivers. Here's the thing: Jerry Judy going undrafted. KC Concepcion going undrafted or going in the 16th round, so nearly undrafted. David Boston.
SPEAKER_00That is wild.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, David Boston, undrafted. Is it David Boston?
SPEAKER_00No, that was the Patriots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Boston, Denzel, uh, going undrafted. Here's the thing about this. They none of them should go undrafted. If you are looking at random people at the end of your draft, take one of them. Yeah. Because one of them has to be the wide receiver one.
SPEAKER_00And I have my own feelings about Jerry Judy from the the sample that I got in Denver.
SPEAKER_01I don't want it. I don't want Jerry Judy.
SPEAKER_00Nope. His best game came against the Broncos when he was trying to get revenge in that Jameis Winston snowball game.
SPEAKER_01That's right. I forgot about that. Uh, all right, and then uh Harold Fannon finishes tight end six. Wild. Going as tight end seven right now. He might be my favorite tight end pick.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's he's interesting. And Joku's done, man.
SPEAKER_01Uh he's in he's in LA.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um it's uh Fannon's gonna be nice. I think he's a nice compliment. Again, if you're big on play action offense with Todd Munkin here, he's gonna use the tight end a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I really like him, especially in in uh what am I saying? In PPR? Thank you. I've completely lost it. Uh yeah, I really like him there. Especially, you know, he's he's in that top tier for me. And I'd rather have him there than Colson Loveland in the top sixth, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh let's talk about the Bengals to finish it out. Joe Burrow finished as quarterback 20, he was hurt all year. Going as uh quarterback four in the sixth round. This is pretty much the same thing we said with Lamar, right? He's he's right there. Who are you taking if you had to pick between the two?
SPEAKER_00Give me Joe Burrow.
SPEAKER_01Joe Burrow. Um is he your so he is your quarterback too?
SPEAKER_00You know.
SPEAKER_01After Josh Allen?
SPEAKER_00You know, if he's healthy, which is a big if with him, yeah. He's my one man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I here's my thing. It's Josh Allen, don't be cute. But but it's because of the health, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So if he stays healthy, there's no reason he can't be quarterback one.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01Um so we yes, so we kind of mentioned that. Uh Chase Brown, if you remember going back to the beginning of last year, he was terrible. Do you remember that? Awful. I forgot all about him. He was bad, and then he somehow just finishes as running back eight. And then he's going as running back 11 in the third round. His success is tied to Joe Burrow. Everybody, well, I mean, that's everybody that we're talking about here, but especially him. Like he needs them to be able to air it out, but he's a Bell Cal. So I'm I'm fine. Like, he's going right around we mentioned earlier.
SPEAKER_00So I think he's an okay running back too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh yeah. I I I like I like that. I think he offers running back one upside as well.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah, he he could be a stud we in the making, you know.
SPEAKER_01Would you take him or Jeremiah Love? They're going right next to each other.
SPEAKER_00I mean, both have really bad lines.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's true. That is very true. Um, but yeah, we like Joe or Jamar or Lula, Chase Brown. Um, plus he offers that PPR upside. Um, all right, let's go to the receivers. Uh Jamar Chase who finishes wide receiver four. He's currently wide receiver one.
SPEAKER_00And offset many.
SPEAKER_01It's either him or Puka.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, or or JSN. I mean, like those three guys.
SPEAKER_01It's we've talked about it. But it's not for me. Like it for me, it's those two. And then the it's like for me, it's I don't really know who you pick first. If it's Chase or Puka, but I know JSN's third. But I don't have a problem if you're like, man, I really want JSN. Yeah. We mentioned that before. He's just so good. He's too good, especially if you get Joe Burrow. It's the best stack in the league, too. That's worth saying, too.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh, and then T. Higgins, we've seen it time and time again. He finished his wide receiver 12 last year, going in the fourth round as a wide receiver 18. We've seen it before. Joe Burrow can sustain two really good receivers.
SPEAKER_00So I will never forgive T. Higgins for all you did to that Broncos game I was at in Cincinnati.
SPEAKER_01He's going one pick ahead of Zay Flowers, so you'd much rather have T, I assume.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Would you rather have him over Devonta Smith?
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Uh Rasheed Rice.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01George Pickens.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01AJ Brown.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01So you have him pretty high.
SPEAKER_00Um I'll never forgive him, but I like him.
SPEAKER_01It's good. So we want every piece of this offense. Everybody wants all pieces of offense. Don't overcome it.
SPEAKER_00Except the tight end.
SPEAKER_01Except the tight end, Mike Giusecki. Let it be. You don't want to need any part of that.
SPEAKER_00Like John Lennon said, let it be, man.
SPEAKER_01Let it be. I will say though, he offers the touchdown upside if Joe Burrow is healthy. Yes. There you go. NFC North, which means NFC, or AFC North, I should say, which means AFC East is next week. And then we'll do some tips and tricks. And then we're drafted. Oh man. We're about there. We're about to fantasy football time.
SPEAKER_00Football's on the horizon, folks. College football's less than a month away. I mean it's fun time for football.
SPEAKER_01It is. Adam, you got anything else to tell the people?
SPEAKER_00Go Broncos. Go Irish. Gonna take it to the Badgers week one.
SPEAKER_01Did you see those Badgers uniforms though?
SPEAKER_00Yep, they're really cool uniforms to get slaughtered in. I love it.
SPEAKER_01Um you won't see the blood.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's gonna be, I mean, a 50 to nothing blowout. That's a shout-out. That's fun for them.
SPEAKER_01Badgers playing chess, not checkers.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Why win when you can have cool uniforms? Go twins are on a heater lately. They've been playing good baseball and uh go Thunderbirds.
SPEAKER_01Alright, take care, be good.
