Spherity

In this episode, Dr. Susanne Guth-Orlowski, Chief Innovation & Solution Officer at Spherity, talks to Ilias Iakovidis, Adviser of the European Commission, DG Connect, who has worked on the definition of the digital product passport in both legislations, the new Battery Regulation and the Proposal for Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

Mr. Iakovidis provides background information about the various upcoming EU Circular Economy legislations, how these legislations are interrelated, and the role of the European Commission supporting their implementation. The interview clarifies that the digital product passport will be mandated for many product categories to reach the Green Deal starting from batteries, textiles, and buildings.

The podcast also covers what the European Commission expects from the industry to make the product passport a success, the biggest obstacles during its implementation, and what the DPP can accomplish in the next five to ten years.

Mr. Iakovidis emphasizes that the European Commission is aiming at a decentralised product passport solution that allows for business confidentiality, data sovereignty, and data verifiability.
