Product Passport Pioneers - #5 with Michele Galatola, European Commission
Sep 14, 2022 Season 1 Episode 5
Spherity

In this episode, Dr. Susanne Guth-Orlowski speaks with Michele Galatola, Senior Policy Officer, European Commission, DG Grow, and “Father of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)” about the new ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) regulation. Mr. Galatola explains the timelines for implementing the ESPR that announces the digital product passport for various product categories. He also sheds some light to what EU Customs needs from the digital product passport solution to ensure that only products enter the EU which comply with the ESPR.

Michele comments on how the lately started CIRPASS project is helping the European Commission to validate the DPP concept in three different product categories. Also, he stresses that the DPP can help companies to get more transparency and control over their supply chains and thus improve their resource resilience in these politically difficult times.

Tune in to be up to speed on the latest developments of DPP, the current activities are driven by the European Commission, and why it made the decision to push - for the first time - a decentralized approach to implement it.
