Bobby Takahashi is the fourth generation member of the Takahashi family. Bobby was born and raised in the Bay Area and currently manages Takahashi Market in San Mateo, CA. Bobby provides insight into the history of the market, allergies to chocolate , parents cooking, dealing with the pandemic pivot , local eats, food favorites and travel experiences.  I have been going to this market for over ten years and super excited to share  this with you all!

Takahashi Market was started back in 1906 by Issei immigrant, Tokutaro Takahashi. (Bobby's great grandfather) This family owned and operated market has served the San Francisco Bay Area community for four generations. Takahashi Market carries a complete line of Asian and Hawaiian foods as well as cooking accessories. Besides specializing in Japanese and Hawaiian food items, the market also stocks Chinese, Korean, Filipino, and Thai foods. Several cookbooks explaining how to use the myriad number of exotic ingredients can be found in the store. Over the last fifty years, the Takahashi family adapted to welcoming new Hawaiian transplants to the Bay Area with their selection of local food staples like spam musubi and various other types in their new grab n' go heater, mochiko chicken, Kalua pork,  fried rice, cucumber salad, shrimp chips, island treats, sake,  sweet bread, poi, as well as comfort foods like ahi and salmon poke, and mochi.
