Jen:

Hello my Spoonie Sisters. It is your host, Gracefully, Jen. Welcome my wonderful warriors back to wow this podcast and my little mini episodes. As the holiday season approaches, I want to offer you seven ways to find joy and embrace the festive spirit, even while navigating the unique challenges of living with our chronic illnesses. Number one embrace simple traditions. Focus on simple and meaningful traditions that bring you joy without overwhelming your energy. Whether it's decorating a small space, listening to festive music or enjoying a favorite holiday treat, find what resonates with you.

Jen:

Number two prioritize self-care. The holiday season can be so hectic, so it's crucial to prioritize self-care. Set aside time for activities that rejuvenate your mind and your body. It could be reading a book, taking a warm bath or practicing some mindfulness. Number three create realistic expectations for yourself. Adjust your expectations and be realistic about what you can accomplish. It's okay to say no to certain commitments and focus on what truly brings you joy. Set boundaries to protect your energy and your wellbeing.

Jen:

Number four celebrate in your own time. Don't feel pressured to conform to a specific timeline. If the holiday hustle and bustle are too much, consider celebrating in your own time, whether it's a quiet evening by yourself or a small gathering with loved ones. Prioritize what feels right for you. Number five virtual connection. If gathering in person is challenging, embrace virtual options. Video calls, messages and even online holiday events can help you stay connected with loved ones without the physical strain of travel and socializing.

Jen:

Number six focus on gratitude. Cultivate a spirit of gratitude by reflecting on the positive aspects of your life. Consider keeping a gratitude journal, noting the small joys and expressing appreciation for the support you receive from friends and family. And number seven adapt activities to your abilities. Modify traditional holiday activities to suit your abilities. If baking cookies or wrapping gifts is too physically demanding, explore alternatives like ordering pre-made treats or using gift bags. The joy is in the experience, not the perfection. Remember, finding joy in the holiday season is a personal journey and it's okay to prioritize your well-being, celebrate in ways that resonate with you and surround yourself with understanding and supportive individuals, from our podcast family to yours, wishing you a joyful and peaceful holiday season. Until next time. Don't forget your spoon.
