Recorded August 4th, 2025
Two sports enthusiasts reunite after battling persistent internet provider issues to deliver a passionate, wide-ranging conversation spanning Hollywood, professional golf, and the return of NFL football.
The hosts kick off with a spirited debate about Happy Gilmore 2, questioning whether the long-awaited sequel lived up to expectations. While praising memorable cameos from golf legends like Jack Nicklaus, they wonder if the film relied too heavily on nostalgia rather than crafting a cohesive story. A fascinating behind-the-scenes revelation about Hunter Mahan serving as Adam Sandler's swing double proves to be one of their favorite aspects of the production.
Golf takes center stage as they analyze Cam Young's breakthrough victory at the Wyndham Championship, noting his Wake Forest connections and the emotional farewell to broadcasting legend Ian Baker Finch after three decades behind the microphone. The conversation naturally flows to FedEx Cup playoff implications and upcoming Ryder Cup team selections, with thoughtful speculation about potential player pairings and team dynamics.
The return of NFL football ignites palpable excitement as they dissect the Hall of Fame game performance and discuss Antonio Gates' induction – highlighting his remarkable journey as the only NFL Hall of Famer who never played college football. Their analysis of current NFL contract situations, particularly regarding Terry McLaurin and Micah Parsons requesting trades, reveals deep frustration with franchise management decisions: "Why wouldn't you pay the guy that's been the face of your franchise for five years?"
Whether you're a golf enthusiast, football fan, or movie buff, this episode delivers candid, entertaining commentary from two friends who aren't afraid to share their unfiltered opinions. Subscribe now and join the conversation as football season heats up and the golf playoffs unfold.

Welcome Back After Internet Issues
Speaker 1Welcome to another episode of the Bald Guys on the Bench podcast, with your hosts Graham Cohen and Scott Wasco.
Speaker 2What's up everyone and welcome back to another episode of the Bald Guys on the Bench. I know it's been a while. All I got to say is dude, can somebody discover your boy and I here at Bald Guys on the Bench Studios in Nevada? And can I say something else? Cox, get your shit together, and not only that, but a big-ass city like Nevada, las Vegas. Why was Cox the only thing available?
Speaker 3Monopolies.
Speaker 2It's the only thing I can say.
Speaker 3It is absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 2This show will be even more fire when we have some producer dude sitting in the back eating Cheetos in his mom's basement editing and getting this shit out and him worrying about all this.
Speaker 3It shit it is what it is, but for now at least it's working. Crossing our fingers, praise the lord. But uh, you know, I'm tired, I'm thirsty, but I'm just ready to talk some sports and make some laughs. So, scott, help me out with that, let's grab and crack one and let's get this party started. Bro, you're tired, it's 11.20 right now.
Speaker 2We've been on the phone working on this shit since God knows when your boy was at work this morning at 7.30, for kids camp had 50 little hooligans running around all day and you're telling me you're tired, who, me and I got to go do it again tomorrow. So I will say for the record, we played a little kickball today with the sports camp and your boy did hit a walk-off winner in the last inning. So you're welcome. I mean a little walk-off kickball, I mean you're welcome.
Speaker 3Yeah, an adult first pitch.
Speaker 2Dude, my assistants were playing, Andrew was playing.
Speaker 1All right Parker was playing.
Speaker 2I mean, come on now, you can't make it up. Anyhow, it's Monday night. We've had a lot of IT issues the last week since our last show, but here we are. Fedex playoffs are upon us. Happy Gilmore has come and gone and before we even get into that, graham, you know, like we always do Weekend, I mean I know we grabbed it and cracked it. How was your weekend? What'd you do? I mean, how many movies did you see?
Speaker 3Uh, how many have I seen? Uh, one, that's only one's coming to the top of my head right now, and that was the remake of the naked gun. And let me tell you, liam Neeson, pamela Anderson, spot on it. I it was everything that I hoped it to be. It was as good as the originals. Look, it's a comedy that's over the top. So if you know that going into it and that's what you expect, then you're in for a good time, and I loved it. My parents enjoyed it. Um, it was a.
Speaker 2It was fun had by all dude my favorite part of the I don't know if it was was naked gun, and they had like naked gun two and a half or whatever, I don't know which one it was from. Best scene dude, when home boys in court maybe, and he's taking a leak and he's got the mic on. Remember that, yeah, dude best. And he's like, he's like pissed in and it's like that long piss, like when you're at a football game and you've had a bunch of beers and you're like, oh, I can't wait. And then he's like uh, uh and he's like dribbling, you know old man pee style, and everybody's hearing it and then he farts. Great scene classic. But I want to go see it, it's worth it totally worth it.
Speaker 3yeah, definitely want to go see it. It's worth it, totally worth it.
Speaker 2Yeah, definitely want to go see it.
Speaker 3Yeah, other than that, just been dealing with internet outage issues from Cox in the area. So that's just been a real pain in my ass and the reason why, folks, if you're wondering why it's a pain, we're in a day and age that everything that I have runs off Wi-Fi. I have a smart TV. I don't have a cable box. So if I can't access the internet, I can't get on my Hulu, I can't get on my Netflix, I can't do anything.
Speaker 1You're done yeah.
Speaker 3Yeah, I mean like I have internet on my phone and it's technically quoteunquote unlimited, but yo, the big companies are like, yeah, we'll give you unlimited, but after a certain amount of data that you used, they cut it down to a point where you can only check your email. Yeah, I must flow your roll, bro. Yeah, so you know, just trying to find things to do it's. You know, it's been rough over here, but you know, had the technician come out a couple days ago, gave me some positive news.
Speaker 2He was worthless as tits on a boar hog.
Speaker 3No, well, the problem was it was two separate issues.
Speaker 2There was the issue of yeah, number one being Cox, Number two being Cox.
Speaker 3Yeah, well, a he did say that out of all the other major carriers like Verizon, fios and AT&T Fiber, he says there's a better chance, in the area that I'm at, that Google Fiber is going to be here, which that would be awesome.
Speaker 2After they dig up your whole goddang neighborhood.
Speaker 3At this point. Who gives a shit? And he's like, yeah, this should be soon. And I'm like, what's your definition of soon? He's like, yeah, you know like eight, nine months and I was like shit.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's coming.
Speaker 3Yeah, bro, so it was Christmas, I mean, I'd say in the previous week that we weren't on.
Speaker 2Just the excitement was the buildup for Happy Gilmore Watched it. Yeah, I mean, dude, we have to talk about it. I know it's been out for over a week now and everybody's given their opinions on it and this and that, but the last Friday, the day it came out, what was that? July 25th?
Speaker 1Yeah, that sounds about right.
Speaker 2Yeah, so you know, I took my daughter down to East Carolina for an official college tour and we're on the way home, we're so excited to watch it, we stopped to eat dinner, didn't watch it. I was off the next day, got up and we were all fired up to watch it and dude, I'm just going to say this Did they have to make that movie.
Speaker 3Does anyone have to do anything?
Happy Gilmore 2 Movie Review
Speaker 2No, but, and I'm not saying it, and this is the thing, dude the more and more I think about it and I've watched it twice now. Okay, and the reason this is so hard is Adam Sandler. I grew up with him. Okay, billy Madison is one of my favorite movies of all times. Yeah, all times. The guy everything he's done has been genius, right, and it's hard for me to dog a movie, especially a golf movie. You know what I mean. It's something that the world was like 30 years later, waiting for the cameos. I felt like the movie was more about the cameos than anything Agreed and something I heard last week on another podcast. It really clicked with me.
Speaker 1I felt like it was an hour and a half of TikTok clips.
Speaker 3Am I wrong? Yes and no, but you also have to realize. Do you know how popular TikTok is I?
Speaker 2do know that, but it's a movie. If you wanted to do this and do TikTok reels, do it. On TikTok, I mean, three minutes into the movie, my second hot chick over the age of 50 takes a golf ball to the dome and she's gone. And I'm instantly like are you kidding me? I don't get to see her for the rest of this movie.
Speaker 3Spoiler she. She is in the rest of the movie. I mean not a lot, but she's still, but still.
Speaker 2I mean come on, my girl Julie Bowen, dude.
Speaker 3I mean I don't disagree, but I mean a lot of it also comes down to you need to have the storyline to make it worth making the movie.
Speaker 2Dude the storyline jumped so fast. They spent three minutes on my girl. What was her name in the original virginia? Yeah, three minutes on it. Next thing you know adam sandler's hammer time and liquor out of every crevice, out of cucumbers and shit in the goddamn grocery store. It's like dude. But then let's make the last 35, 40 minutes all about the joke on live tour and maxi bullshit. I mean the beginning was great. The the cameos were awesome. I mean they got Jack Nicklaus bro in this movie.
Speaker 1Facts.
Speaker 2And Jack Nicklaus ordering iced tea and lemonade. Oh, don't you mean Arnold Palmer, Mr Nicklaus? No, I mean iced tea and lemonade.
Speaker 3Great joke, great joke.
Speaker 2I mean Xander Shoffley. Yeah, that's what she said. It was great until it wasn't. I don't know, I hate talking bad about Adam Sandler, but you know it is what it is and you know we're late to the party and everybody has their opinions and this and that I mean. But anybody like we talked about anybody expecting a grammy performance did like you're not understanding.
Speaker 3But that one we could have done without, bro I, I mean, I still like, I still enjoyed it. I just think a lot of of people it's two different things. It's not like we're saying, oh, it's Grammy-worthy or Oscar-worthy, that's not it. There's just some of it where it felt like I don't want to say over the top, but it's like we didn't need all the cameos. You know what I mean. That was the best part of the movie, yeah, but there's also a lot of cameos that if you didn't know who they were, you wouldn't know who they are anyway, type of a thing.
Speaker 2AKA Reggie Bush.
Speaker 3Well, yeah, that didn't need to be there, but I'm just saying, like, ben Stiller's kids were in it and if you didn't know you didn't know you kids were in it and if you didn't know you didn't know you had to look it up. You know, the guy that played the founder of the maxi tour, that was one of adam sandler's old uh directors from uh, the something gems that I can't think of the word of right now, and he was awful, he's a director.
Speaker 3This is. You keep saying oh, this is awful, we're talking about a stupid movie.
Speaker 2I'm not disagreeing with you.
Speaker 3And the thing is it's going to be completely different than what the original was. And just remember, the original was also out there for its time. You know what I mean? It was completely ridiculous when it came out. So it's just like, with how everything is now like, to be honest, I thought this. I mean, what was more over the top was just like his kids always doing the stupid, like jack off stuff like that. Okay, yeah, it's funny here or there, but it's just like. I think each person thinks different things were stupid for different reasons and are remakes needed? No, but it's just like there's certain ones that it's just like if it could happen, this would be a movie that could be remade. And look, all the people that talked about it prior from it coming out said oh yeah, it's a pretty good movie. Why is everyone now changing their tune and being like oh? They're saying oh, it's like. I feel like everyone is just being too critical.
Speaker 1To be perfectly honest, they're saying, oh it's like I feel like everyone is just being too critical. To be perfectly honest, it's just like everyone's 100.
Speaker 3They got to put their opinion on something that, to be honest, doesn't fucking matter like it doesn't it's like they want it to be a certain way. It didn't come out their way and now it's like, for example, how, if anyone hates live, they're not gonna love this stuff I mean that was pretty funny.
Speaker 2I mean, first thing I thought when I'm watching it is this has got to be a shot at live I mean, is it who knows?
Speaker 3probably, but it's just like like the only gripe for me about the movie was just that last hole, like that was just kind of stupid for me, like they could have done it in a different way, and it wasn't stupid for the maxi guys to get their hamstrings cut or whatever so they could turn and hit it 600 yards how else would there be other competition without taking a direct shot at the pga tour and saying we're going to take your players? I mean, you're.
Speaker 2I don't know all I could think about when he said that was Caddyshack. When you got Carl hanging out with Chevy Chase and he goes you know how you take care of Judge Mills you cut him in the back. He'll never be able to turn it over again. Everything will be way right, way right. That's all I can think about. That's it. That's all I can think about.
Speaker 3Yeah, I can think about yeah, like that part didn't bother me at all, it's just, it was just like that last final hole. And then it's just like. It just seemed like when you're watching the movie, every big detail that the fans liked about the first movie they had to remake in some version of the new movie.
Speaker 3You know, and the Bob Barker like the heckler thing, like it's just like everything was something to be redone and it's just like I feel like a lot of people weren't expecting that. And then, when they saw that, they're just like oh, I mean, when I watched it from start to finish, I laughed my ass off the whole time, like all this hate when you just let it sit and resonate into thinking about it. It was just like all this and all that and you're just like okay, yeah, you can stew on that, but, like in the moment, while I was watching it, I had a great time.
Speaker 2There were. There were three things that I loved about this movie. Three things, okay, number one caught me off guard. Totally loved it. Totally was excited that they did it, and that was Willie Z zalatorre. Yeah, when zalatorre popped on the scene, everybody was calling him what happy's caddy yeah and then for them to play that into it for sure awesome, awesome, loved it. Scotty scheffler obviously. Oh, no, oh, no, not again.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2You know, with the cops. So I actually listened to a podcast with Adam Sandler on it, and they were talking about this situation and they weren't going to say anything to Scotty. They just gave him his lines and if he complained about it they had a backup plan ready to go you know, if he didn't want to. You know, make fun of himself and this and that. And adam sandler was like he never said a word and I was like that's why I love the guy even more yeah, he gets it yeah, when he's in jail and he's like turn the golf on it, it was awesome.
Speaker 2It was awesome, I mean totally cool, loved it. And then my favorite part of the entire movie, we didn't even know about until the day after, and that's Hunter Mahan being the double for Adam Sandler. Yeah, that was amazing to me, adam Sandler, yeah, that was amazing to me. And the reason anybody listening Hunter Mahan won on the PGA Tour had the worst chili dip ever in the history of the Ryder Cup Well, in the 18th hole. But you know, whatever World-class player, he doesn't play anymore. Right, he's a coach of a high school golf team. Wow.
Speaker 2He gets a call from a high school golf team Wow, he gets a call from Adam Sandler's agent saying hey, we're thinking about flying you in to do an audition. My guy is taking his team to the state championships. And that same week he called his AD, called his assistant coach, tells them the situation. Of course, hunter Mahan takes the team to where they have to go and then immediately flies to New Jersey or wherever they were filming it. He's there for four days doing swings, doing this, doing that, and Adam Sandler's like all right, we'll call you tomorrow morning, on Friday, to let you know if you got the job or not. Obviously he gets the job and he asked the producers and everything like a month before it was released. Am I allowed to say anything on Instagram or this or that? They're like no, you can't say a word. The only people that knew Hunter Mahan was the swing double we'll call him stunt person was his high school team, his athletic director and their parents.
Speaker 3That's crazy. And never got out dude Kudos to them.
Speaker 2Sick, sick, yeah, I mean I don't know. They all had to obviously sign.
Speaker 1Oh, for sure.
Speaker 2But how sick is that? You're a high school player and guess what? My high school coach is fucking Adam Sandler. We'll call it stunt double. Yeah, I mean, he said it was awesome. He goes whenever we were on the golf course. I was there.
Speaker 3That's pretty slick.
Top Football Movies Debate
Speaker 2Yeah, pretty awesome dude, he goes. When they said it, he goes. I was like stoked. Remember, when they're on the driving range at the little double-decker driving range and he's hitting shots. I forget the comedian that's up there hitting John Lovett. Yeah, mahan said that was an entire day for a three-minute scene. He goes entire day.
Speaker 3How is that possible?
Speaker 2Right, I mean it was sick, but anyhow we're 20 minutes in. I mean I knew we were going to go crazy on Happy Gilmore 2. But while we're on the movie thread and we're getting ready to, you know, Hall of Fame game was Thursday. I know we're going the movie thread and we're getting ready to, you know, hall of fame game was Thursday. I know we're going to talk a little golf, but football's in the air, right? Yes, sir, Give me your top five greatest football movies.
Speaker 3Ah, Jesus.
Speaker 2I saw this today and I was like, Ooh, I got to bring this up.
Speaker 3I'm trying to think of five, just in general. Um, no, um, wow, rudy, uh, remember the Titans. Any given Sunday the longest yard? Yeah and um, it would either be, cause I'm just trying to think it would, either. I guess probably Friday Night Lights.
Speaker 2Yeah, that hit the list of this dude on Twitter too. You know what didn't hit this dude's list? What's that First movie he said?
Speaker 3Rudy what.
Speaker 2How can you have a top five football movie countdown and Rudy's not in the top five? You have a top five football movie countdown and Rudy's not in the top five?
Speaker 3Rudy's one of the top five sports movies, let alone football movies, Dude.
Speaker 2I don't get it, but it's not my top five list. This is just some random one of my favorite football movies that you did not name, and as soon as I say it, you're going to be like son of a the Blind Side.
Speaker 3Oh yeah, that was good.
Speaker 2Loved that movie. I thought it was really good, but I would agree. Oh, and another one, dude, I mean.
Speaker 3I think it was called Gridiron. Gang with the Rock in exhibit, that was pretty good.
Speaker 2You know what Badger's favorite football movie would be? And if you don't, you got to smack yourself.
Speaker 3What's a Badger?
Speaker 1Oh, old school.
Speaker 3Old movie. Oh, I'll just slap myself right now brian song oh yeah, sorry, badger dude I'll never.
Speaker 2I'll never forget. It was me. Badger, my sister-in-law, her now husband came out. We all went to the Chargers Cardinals game, like week 17. We came back it was New Year's Eve, did the New Year's thing? I went to bed. Badger stayed up with Roger, my brother-in-law, and he made Roger watch Brian's song and Badger's all. You know. Badger hammered and he's going are you kidding me, rog? You're not crying right now? And Badger's hammered doing man drunk, crying as he's watching this movie. I will never forget the story of Roger telling me that. But, dude, how can you leave off Waterboy?
Speaker 3I'm just off the top of my head, bro. I'm just thinking of five football movies. I know, I know I probably would have subbed out Waterboy. Yeah, I would have subbed out Waterboy.
Speaker 2Friday Night Lights.
Speaker 3That's a classic.
Speaker 2Right that fat dude with the shotgun in the back of the truck.
Speaker 3Oh dude, Varsity Blues.
Speaker 2The whipped cream bikini.
Speaker 3Yeah, varsity Blues, oh blues, oh dude. Can I redo my list now?
Speaker 2any given sunday was a classic movie.
Speaker 3Yeah, oh, dude dude, I saw that in high school dude, that came out.
Speaker 3That came out the same weekend as um, the south park movie. Wow, and the craziest part about that was because where I grew up was a smaller town so there was the one major multiplex theater. They had cops there checking tickets going into the theater because you could still acquire tickets from your parents or whoever, but they had cops outside of where you would go into the actual theater just double checking IDs to the tickets because that was an R-rated movie. But yet I still and mind you, I was 17 at the time, I think 17 or 16 when that came out. They had cops outside of that movie but there was no cops for Any Given Sunday. And there's a few scenes in Any Given Sunday that if you don't remember they were, let's just say they were more than rated R.
Speaker 2I remember going to see American Pie and the same thing was going on.
Speaker 3Oh, and I know you know this, but folks favorite movie of all time right there, Love it.
Speaker 2American Pie. Yeah, hands down Favorite comedy.
Speaker 3No, yeah, I mean that's number one go-to. I've seen it a hundred times.
Speaker 2I will never forget going to see that movie when it first came out and that first scene one of them is hanging out with the apple pie and I literally thought three, four minutes into this movie that I was going to just piss myself. I'm just like. You know what I mean when you're just like uncontrollable laughter.
Speaker 3Bro Dude, I mean you're five years older than I am, but it's just like I was that age when that movie came out, you know what I mean, or a year behind, and it was just like just relating with the characters and I was with my friends and it's just like every scene Nadia coming into the bedroom Like there's so many scenes in that movie, you know Classic Nadia coming into the bedroom. There's so many scenes in that movie. I could go on forever with that, but yeah, it's just.
Speaker 2Yeah, and then you got the old classic line at the end of the movie Bandcamp.
Speaker 3Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2I wish I could have seen my face when I'm world fed up. What the I mean? I wish I could have seen my face when Homeworld said that.
Speaker 3I'm like what the I mean.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 3The best part is. So over the years they've had the spinoffs of them, but then, you know, with other characters. But then they have made a two, three and a four. I'd say in a couple years they could do a five, where now Jim is the father and his kids that age and with the I mean like it, it could happen, I wouldn't Does.
Speaker 2Stifler's mom go from a milf to a gilf.
Speaker 3Oh, well, I mean, if Jim's that old, I mean Stifler's mom would be in her eighties, so I mean that would be a hell of a storyline.
Speaker 2You. I mean that would be a hell of a storyline. You can call her up. You can call her up G-G-Elf. I mean just saying this is why this podcast is great. I'm looking at the notes and I don't even want to talk about it, because I could talk about movies right now. But whatever is what it is, I mean one of my favorite all time movies since you threw out American pie.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Comedies you know not yeah, you know what I'm saying Wedding crashers.
PGA Tour Wyndham Championship
Speaker 3Oh, bro, I'm going to say is this I saw that movie for the first time in the theater with my, with my mother.
Speaker 3Oh, oh god, that was not fun there's only two movies in my lifetime that I've pissed myself at the theater. The first one was home alone when I was a kid, and then the second one was writing crashers. There are too many scenes that I I just I couldn't hold it bro, like. And also there are too many scenes that I just I couldn't hold it bro. And also there was a couple of scenes that were just so fucking awkward that I'm just like, oh my God, but I can't stop laughing.
Speaker 2Dude, that's not one I want to watch with my mom, no, ma the meatloaf. And everybody forgets, will Ferrell was even in that movie, that small little role he had.
Speaker 3Classic Right.
Speaker 2Classic. We got a stage five cleaner. Anyhow, let's jump into some golf real quick. I mean, we could just keep going. I mean one of my favorites dude I mean, come on.
Speaker 3The dinner table scene at the guys at the governor.
Speaker 2Oh God, by the mom, right, wasn't it the mom?
Speaker 3Yeah, you think you have problems. I'm sitting over here getting jacked up under the table.
Speaker 2Love it, love it, love it. So, anyhow, let's fast forward real quick because it's getting later by the second PGA Tour final event for the regular season. Okay, the Wyndham Championship. A lot of shit on the line Getting in the playoffs, top 70. You and I made a lot of bets and thought about a lot of things. This dude's going to play well because he's on the verge of 71 in FedEx Cup standings. This and that Dude and I know it's easy to say now because homeboy won by six or whatever it was Cam Young, okay, gets his first dub. Okay, yeah, first win, number one. I can't believe that was his first win. But then I'm looking and he's got like seven runner-up finishes. But something I'm thinking about today on the way to work that I never even thought about he came in, he was in the last group last year when Aaron Rye won, and then he's from New York but he plays college golf at Wake Forest, right around the corner.
Speaker 1All right.
Speaker 2And he always lights the place up. In fact, if you like, lighting the place up. The second round last year and the second round this year, it was either. He shot 62 or 63 in the second round last year and this year. I mean lit it up At one point on the back nine. Yesterday he had a nine-shot lead.
Speaker 3I mean.
Speaker 2Starts the final round with the bogey on the first hole and he's like, yeah, everybody relax, I'm just going to make five birds in a row. I mean, if it wasn't for the last you know event of the regular season and all the FedExCup points going up and going down, that would have been a snooze fest, good night turning the channel, going to go watch my Mets get drummed Right. But the drama of everything was pretty amazing. The drama of everything was pretty amazing. I mean Davis Thompson starts the week out at 73 or something like that, birdie's like 15, makes a bomb from across the country to make Birdie and it moves him to like 68, and he's inside the top 70, and then three putts the 72nd hole to finish 72. That's brutal.
Speaker 2Yeah, gary woodland, you know, sitting there, same thing, the whole world's pulling for the dude brain surgery and all that shit. You know, I mean it's tough, it's golf. You, our boy, got in the top 70, finished 63rd on the way to Memphis. He's got to play his dick off this week in Memphis to get in the top 50 to go to Baltimore, to Caves Valley. I mean you want to talk about top 50? Top 50 is a pretty big deal If you make it to Baltimore at Caves Valley you're in all the signature events next year.
Speaker 3Come on, rick, let's fucking go.
Speaker 2We need a week to peak baby. We need a week.
Speaker 3I like that. We need a week to peak yeah.
Speaker 2But the coolest thing I I mean about the golf tournament, obviously homeboy getting his first win and baker finch calls it a career dude 30 years broadcasting golf tournaments and not I put in the notes 30 years with cvs. It was not 30 years with cvs, he was somewhere else first, but I think the last 14 years was with CBS. The send-off they gave him on CBS was pretty amazing. You know they were showing pictures. Before they were showing videos of everybody, but then him and you know Jim Nance and Immelman, who else was up there, I don't know they start showing baby pictures of Finch. It was awesome, dude. I mean 30 years we've been broadcasting tournaments. I mean you were 12, bro.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I was 17. That's all I remember he you know 17.
Speaker 3That's all I remember.
Speaker 2He. You know, the coolest thing about Ian Baker Finch that I like and that I loved about him is he would talk about what you're seeing on TV from players that are ridiculously good and what they're doing and how they could help your golf game.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Always yeah, he, yeah, he always did, and that was amazing to me.
Speaker 3I've met Ian Baker fans. He, we when I was caddying at my old club in New York. He came out for some event and I actually was in the group that was caddying with him. So you know, I spent a lot of time with him that day and it was a really nice guy. I mean with him. So you know, I spent a lot of time with him that day and it was a really nice guy, I mean. What I was gonna say was I did enjoy his commentary but like there's, there's just something about him that he was just like so subtly smooth that it's like when you're listening to him it's like it almost puts you to sleep, but then it like it doesn't. You know what I mean. It's like you're listening to him and you're just it.
Speaker 3It it's I mean I guess that's a good thing, because it's just like he's there, but he's not type of a thing you know, and it's just look, when people have their favorite commentators, that's all who they want to listen to. So yeah you gotta love jim nance. He's the goat in all sports, but it's just like, especially with the golf, and look, I'll give him credit People do get better over time. Trevor Immelman has definitely stepped his game up over the last X amount of years.
Speaker 2And for him to be his number two. I was just getting ready to say you ain't wrong.
Speaker 3You know what I mean.
Speaker 2For Trevor Immelman to skip playing in the masters as a past champion.
Speaker 3That says a lot. He's like I can. He's like I'll just call a member. I'll go out if I want to. He's like I'd rather just do the coverage.
Speaker 2You're allowed to play whenever you want as a past champion.
Speaker 3I thought you still have to get. I thought you still have to get.
Speaker 2I thought you still have to go to the river, though. No, yeah, but it was awesome, dude. I mean Colt Nose talking about him. You know the bald guys on the bench, hot chick of the forever, ballyona's talking about him. It was just, it was cool. I mean I mean Tiger Woods tweeted about it. Cool. I mean Tiger Woods tweeted about it yesterday.
Speaker 3I mean, if T-Dub says something, he's Huh.
Speaker 2Yeah, I mean. Anyhow, we're off to the FedEx Cup playoffs in Memphis this week. You know, hopefully the temperature and weather that we got here in Southeast Virginia is the same as they're getting in Memphis, because it's absolutely phenomenal right now. But Rory ain't playing what Doesn't sound like Scott, he's playing Dude. They ain't got to play.
Speaker 3I get it.
Speaker 2Remember last year Rory finished DFL in Memphis, dropped a spot, I mean Scottie's one, rory's two, except Stocker's three. Stocker could win and he's still behind. They ain't dropping.
Speaker 3Well, with how they changed the outcome of not outcome, but how they changed the season. Yeah, the format, the format for the tour championship, I mean, yeah, I mean, I get it. They don't need to be there. And look, it is the quote Playoff, so they're still going to have the viewership. They don't need the top two guys there. I don't know, it's one of those things. You would think that you just want to keep the ball Rolling as a player and not take the time off, but you know.
Speaker 2When you're the Scotty, could not play in the BMWmw in baltimore and still be wanting to at the door. Granted, granted, they're not going to. But you know, speaking of the bmw caves valley in baltimore, this place is supposed to be ridiculous. Yeah, they had to bmw there, they had to bm, they had to BMW there years. I don't know, I forget who won it there, but place is sick, super high end club Crazy thing. One of my members at my club, her brothers, the head pro there, wow Got a little open invite. One day I'll make it up there. But Wow, got a little open invite. One day I'll make it up there. But anyhow, rick R squared, what'd I say? It's the week to peak. Yeah, let's go. Let's go. I mean, let's get this shit done. Yeah, I mean on a side note, I know you're going to hate what I'm about to say, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Brian Harmon, top 20 bet. I haven't even looked at it, it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3I don't know if I should take that with a grain of salt. After your your picks last week, I mean you're pretty fucking confident.
Speaker 2I was. I did research, but obviously not enough. Cam Young played golf at Wake Forest Anyhow, and you know how much I don't like and you know how much I don't like Brian Harmon, I know.
Speaker 2Dude Ryder Cup. How crazy is this Ryder Cup selection going to be? I don't know, dude, ryder Cup. How crazy is this Ryder Cup selection going to be? I don't know. I mean, the first seven in standings are done, it's done. I mean Scotty. Scotty Shoffley, jj Spahn, russell Henley I'm just thinking on top of my Bryson JT seventh. Who's sixth? Xander? Xander's three.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Dude. So there's your seven right.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Does Morikawa deserve a spot on this team?
Speaker 3Not how he's been playing. No.
Hall of Fame Game Highlights
Speaker 2I mean, ben Griffin got her up, Novak, mavik, renele, and now you can't throw all these rookies on this team. Dude Can't leave out of the standings Now you throw Cam Young out there. He's one of the longest players out there. Harris English is going to be on the team, brian Harmon.
Speaker 3Tough choices.
Speaker 2Dude. And then you look at the European squad they're going to run it back.
Speaker 3Dude, what they did in Rome yeah, and is this the first year that the opposing wins on the home court?
Speaker 2it's gonna be tough, bro, I mean. Here's the question, though, and you know, all these picks that keegan and the assistant captains are going to make coming up are going to be based off of pairings, right? Who's going to play with who?
Speaker 1Right.
Speaker 2In the four ball and then in the alternate shot. Who in the hell are you going to pair with Bryson? Because you know Bryson's going to come out with energy and you know how he is. You got to talk to him. Oh sorry. And you know Keson's going to come out with energy and you know how he is. You got to talk to him. Oh sorry, and you know Keegan's playing. Yeah, keegan's going to play, he better.
Speaker 3Yeah, at this point he has to, If we want to win he has to play At this point for sure. I mean because those captain picks. There's a couple of guys, there's going to be three people that have not even been on the writer.
Speaker 2That's the thing, dude. Everybody knows Shoffley and Cantley pair together the last time writer club Sam Burns and Scheffler. Well now, henley and Scheffler dominated the president's club Sam Burns, unless he finishes great in the playoffs. Justin Thomas, you pair with Justin Thomas Deegan. I don't know, it's tough, it's going to be tough. I mean, dude, look at the European squad. Dude, rom Rory Fleetwood, lud Luda Ludwig. I mean Sepp Straka.
Speaker 3I mean I'm looking on the website right now.
Speaker 2They're running it back, dude, the Europeans. I mean, I'd take Patrick Cantley right now over morakawa.
Speaker 3Well, I mean he's in the whole captain's pick area so I mean he would not. Yeah, like I mean looking down cantley's in 14 spot cam young with that win moved up to 15. I like that. Sam Burns, wyndham Clark.
Speaker 2Wyndham Clark can go break a locker, I know. But Sam Burns, dude, one of the best putters out there, yeah, I mean, how good would JJ Spahn and Bryson be together? Wow, two California kids. I like that, I like that, I like that. Then he threw out there harris english, brian harman, two georgia bulldogs. Teammates got her up, dude, I mean from new jersey. Cam young from new york, cam Young from New York, I don't know, we could keep going on and on. This became a movie episode, but whatever I know.
Speaker 3I mean I'm looking at some of the other players it's just like that are lower down on the list. I'm just like.
Speaker 2Dude. If Morikawa makes this team dude, I mean my guy's firing caddies, my guy's switching putters. He's trying to play golf. Oh, I'm not going to wear a glove with my long irons, but I'm going to wear a glove with my short irons. I'm sorry, what, what?
Speaker 1Right, I don't know.
Speaker 3There's going to be some fresh faces and it's going to be a lot of hope and praying. I'll tell you that, dude.
Speaker 2Ben Griffin. A lot of heart attacks.
Speaker 3He needs to be on this team Got her up.
Speaker 2I agree, I don't know Anyhow, dude, all the fame game last Thursday, right, your boy wasn't really fired up, even though your boy's team was in it. Until you know, hall of fame, you know whatever. And, dude, then my bolts came out looking like they wanted to be there. You know most teams that play the hall of fame game were like, eh, I don't want to be here. And we dominated the entire game. We finally have a squad that's deep.
Speaker 2Yeah, at a lot of positions. I mean from the opening kickoff we kick off with them. They fumble. You know, obviously we knew starters weren't going to play. Our boss said all the rooks were going to play. You know we got to see Omari and Hampton. Two runs for nine yards. Cool with it. Get your ass on the sidelines. Peace out, cub Scout. But, dude, coolest thing for me. You know I've been talking about this dude forever and for some reason I mean you don't. When I say KLS, you don't know who it is. Hometown guy here from Virginia Went to Christmas High School, nephew of Cam, chancellor Fastest 40 time in the combine. All I keep hearing is homeboys killing camp, killing camp, killing camp and like you and I always say that's great, it's camp.
Speaker 1It's not a real situation. Right.
Speaker 2Well, he dominated, had a tutty Fucking tutty. He had good, god almighty. But something that worries me a little bit trey lance looked good yeah and you know how old trey.
Speaker 3He's young.
Speaker 2Not very.
Speaker 3Yeah, what 26 maybe 25, I think.
Speaker 1Oh Jesus.
Speaker 2Yeah, he looked good, you know. Yeah, good enough to start Start what? The Hall of Fame game, the Hall of Fame game no week one bro.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2But I'm worried about my boy, taylor, but it is what it is. I ain't really worried about him because he's got 18 mil on the bank. I was stoked watching the guys play A lot of guys fighting for roster spots but you know, the real highlight of the weekend for myself was Gates Got signed in first ballot and that was the biggest douchebag thing ever. He's the only player in the NFL Hall of Fame that never played a snap in college football. That's insane, never. And today I'm listening to the Chargers weekly podcast and this story. I had no idea.
Speaker 2Gates played, obviously, high school basketball, high school football, yeah, and he had verbally committed to go to michigan state. We all know the basketball coach at michigan state, tom iso. Yeah, and the football coach at that time for michigan state was none other than nick saban and he was going to go there and both coaches told him you can play both sports. Basketball was Gates' dream and you can play both sports and they wouldn't bitch if he got hurt on football or basketball. Well, saban came back, or Izzo came back and said something about if you get hurt in football, you're done with football, and Gates was like no chance, stopped, went to a community college. Then went to Kent State. His junior year made it to the Elite Eight. Went in the NBA draft never got drafted. That was his dream to go to the Elite Eight. Went in the NBA draft never got drafted. That was his dream. To go to the NBA. Chargers take him as an undrafted free agent. You know what they pay Gates to come to camp and be, an undrafted free agent.
Speaker 2A couple hundred bucks, two Gs how wild is that.
Speaker 3It ain't nothing, but I mean. I mean, look, it adds to the allure of what his career ended up becoming. And for him to go in. You know, did he went in with Gonzalez this year, Right, or did? Was I mixed up on that? No, that's what I thought. I saw something online. They made it sound like I'm like that was.
Speaker 2But I mean, there's players that have played basketball and football in college. You know Julius Peppers, tony Gonzalez, but not ever playing a snap.
Speaker 3That's crazy. I mean, look well-deserved Hall of Famer. I mean his little tribute to Phillip Rivers was nice.
Speaker 2Fun fact, though I said it to you the other day, he's up for it. Fun fact who threw Antonio Gates his first ever touchdown pass in the NFL? Obviously, I know.
Speaker 3I know what the answer is now.
Speaker 2But how crazy is that.
Speaker 3Good old 40-year-old short man, doug Flutie, let's go Insane.
Speaker 2Right Flutie Flakes baby.
Speaker 3Yeah, my first guess was Drew Brees breeze. But when you said no, that's what. That's what I thought too there yeah and I was like oh yeah, he was there for that time. That makes, crazy but I mean, look, I'll say this, the hall of fame game.
Speaker 3It was almost surreal to watch because you know football not being around for however many months now, it's just like dude, all the hype, even for me just watching training you know, for my team and even stuff with yours, it's just like the juices are flowing, we're super excited, and to see it on TV, you're like, it's like you almost forgot about it. You know what I mean. It's just like it was to that point where it was like oh my god, it's back.
Speaker 2The crazy thing. They asked my boy from Virginia KLS what was Harbaugh's speech before the game. Why did you guys come out so fired up and Harbaugh goes? He said, guys, this is a nationally televised game. More people will watch this game than any game in the NBA Finals or any game in Major League Baseball World Series. And the numbers came out. You weren't wrong.
Speaker 3Well yeah, it's the first game of the year. Everyone's just itching.
Speaker 2Dude any NFL game.
Speaker 3Yeah, dude, they could have played the Jags versus the Saints as the first game that would have had the same numbers. Exactly.
NFL Player Contract Dramas
Speaker 2But you know real quick, before we get into any other thing NFL rumor on the street is Keenan's going to sign with the Chargers in the next couple days. Looks like it. I saw this earlier today and I had to screenshot it because I wanted to bring it up. How about this? Dude? You ready? You want to talk about the Chargers taking the Bears to the woodshed? Full trade return for the Bears if Keenan Allen signs with the Chargers. We got Ladd, mcconkie and Tarheib. Still, we acquired a fourth round pick overall from the Bears in exchange for Allen. They went and used the same pick as part of the deal that allowed the Chargers to trade up with the Patriots to get Ladd. Now we're going to get him back. Hey, bears, have fun with pink fingernailed Caleb Williams that has to have training camp. Go half speed so my guy can see receiver routes.
Speaker 3Do you play the Bears this year? No, Huh.
Speaker 2Huh what.
Speaker 1No, we play the Vikings this year.
Speaker 2No, oh, oh, what no? We play the Vikings. I think you.
Speaker 1Oh, I thought you do yeah.
Speaker 2Not saying the Bears didn't make great changes in the offseason, but Dude and remember, that night we had the emergency podcast.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And I sang Boyz II Men. Boyz II Men, I mean anyhow Scary. Terry and Parsons both asked for a trade washington. What are you doing?
Speaker 3yo, I'm just gonna say this. I was listening to nfl, right, or I'm sorry. I was listening on siriusXM, the fantasy channel, and one of the main guys that I listened to. He said something very poignant to me. Well, not to me specifically, but to the listeners.
Speaker 3He's like guys, this is all fodder for people like us you and I and other outlets to just squawk on talk about what could or could not happen and all the bullshit around it. On talk about what could or could not happen and all the bullshit around it. There's no way both or any of the individuals and the organizations are going to let this happen. They're too important to the organizations. This is just something where an agent hits up Schefter and was just like hey, why don't you put this out there? Stir the pot a little bit, help us out and by us I mean the player and the agent Build us up a little bit, put some shit out there, you know, make some white noise and see what happens. And that's exactly what it's going to do in both instances. Look, terry McLaurin yes, is he 30 years old for a wide receiver on the more tail end of his career Technically, but five 1,000-yard seasons in a row the basically face of your franchise, someone who is the number one look-to from Jaden Daniels, who's going to be a sophomore quarterback in the NFL who, by the way, led you to the NFC Championship.
Speaker 3You're going to take away a guy that scored you 13 touchdowns last year. Yeah, you got Debo and a couple other pieces. What are you doing? You got money to spend. Why wouldn't you spend it on a guy and you're just like, oh well, he's already making this, but he's asking for this. Look, certain players will outperform their contracts and deserve more money. And, look, you have it. He deserves it. Do right by the guy. Like you'll be so happy to pay Jaden Daniels, you'll be so happy to pay other people. Why won't you pay the guy that's been the face of your franchise for the last five years, based off the quarterbacks that he had to receive the catches from and never bitched, never moaned and never bitched the whole time? Like, this extension is going to be the last one you're going to give him. Let him get a little bread.
Speaker 2And you still got a quarterback on a rookie deal.
Speaker 3On a rookie deal? Yeah, unless you're Kyler Murray and then, after three years, saying, oh, you got to pay me or I'm leaving.
Speaker 2But you get Debo to help Terry. Debo is not scary, terry. Two completely different wide receivers but now you're opening up the field because you got both of them. Like you said, 13 bomb, 13 tutties last year.
Speaker 3Which is up from his previous years. But I'm just saying. And then the whole Micah Parsons situation. Look, folks, unless you're a diehard Cowboys fan and I mean even if you are you can't I don't want to say this politely you can't not agree that Jerry Jones has been fucking up deals for how many years now?
Speaker 2What did he pay Zeke?
Speaker 3Well, here's my point he's waited to get the last drop out of every player before he decided to pay him. When you don't pay players early and look, pittsburgh should have paid TJ last year, I get it Now they got to pay him this amount when you wait to pay someone and his value goes up, you have to spend more money. They overpaid on Zeke, didn't have to. They overpaid on Dak they didn't have to. They overpaid on Ceepaid on Dak, they didn't have to. They overpaid on CD lamb they didn't have to. And now they're in a spot where the defensive end pass rusher is the second most important position behind I mean you could say it's one a, one B to the left tackle and then, obviously, quarterback being number one. You have Micah Parsons, who's top three between TJ and Garrett Wilson, and he's 26 years old. Garrett Wilson, na wide receiver. Sorry, garrett, sorry, sorry. That's not what I meant to say.
Speaker 1I don't smack myself.
Speaker 3Miles Garrett he's number three and the dude's 26. The two guys that I mentioned both got paid and they're in their 30s. So, oh, you didn't want to pay him last year because he was hurt for five games and was that injury, you think, going to be career ending? No, like all these issues are on you, jerry Jones, like this is all on you, so with him, like he's going to camp, he's not participating, and I mean really the ball's in his court. Yeah, he forced it, like he's like. Oh, you know, I'm gonna ask him for a trade. They'll get a king's ransom if that's what they actually want to do. But why would you want to do something that's going to hurt your team If you lose Micah Parsons? There's no, you have no chance in the NFC.
Speaker 2Like I told you the other day, the Raiders traded Khalil Mack to the Bears for two firsts.
Speaker 3Yeah, but the Raiders weren't in the Cowboys' position.
Speaker 2What position is that? Finishing third in their division?
Speaker 3You know what I'm trying to say. Look, they make the playoffs. They're just like Pittsburgh. They make the playoffs in first round exit. Are they going to make the playoffs this year? Is Micah Parsons on the team?
Speaker 2If I said yes, are they going to make the playoffs?
Speaker 3Yes, Obviously barring health. Yeah, of course Cowboys make the. Of course I mean look, the NFC East could have three teams again, or could have three teams this year.
Speaker 2Yeah, I just don't understand the Washington thing. Dude, ride the momentum. You got Scary Terry. You made a run. You boat raced the team with the best record in the divisional round last year to advance to the NFC Championship game. You got boat raced by the Eagles. What are you thinking?
Speaker 3And he's only asking for like seven million more a year.
Speaker 1What are?
Speaker 3you thinking Crying over spilled milk is what it sounds like?
Speaker 2On a side note, you want to hear some humor, let's do it. I mean, sorry, got to throw this shot at Browns fans. Someone should do a study on how the Browns went from Baker Mayfield to a quarterback room of Dylan Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Shador Sanders and Tyler Huntley.
Speaker 3Yeah, but the better story is how Baker transformed into what he is now.
Speaker 2No one thought when he left Cleveland he was going to be what he was Remember he went to the Panthers I didn't and then he started that Thursday night game for the Rams and got the dub. Yeah well, that game made his career Like two days of learning the playbook, and then he started that.
Speaker 3Thursday night game for the Rams and got the dub. Yeah Well, that game made his career.
Speaker 2Like two days of learning the playbook.
Speaker 3Yeah, yeah, that got him the end of Tampa. And they were like, hey, let's figure this out.
Speaker 2I mean same as Taylor dude, the playoff game against the Bucs, yeah.
Speaker 3Matt Flynn One game 18-0.
Speaker 2Was sleeping on my sister's couch. Yeah, Matt Flynn. One game 18 mil. Was sleeping on my sister's couch. Yeah, Now I'm not.
Speaker 3Thank you very much.
Speaker 2Gracias. Anyhow, sorry everybody. It's been a couple weeks. Hopefully we get this shit figured out. Cox, get your shit together. Graham, love doing this with you, but it is 12-24 right now and your boy has 50 kids at 9 o'clock showing up to my club tomorrow for kids camp.
Speaker 3Hold on though, bro. You have been leading me up to today for the last five days. Now for the hot chick of the week. You already said it.
Speaker 1Oh, it's her oh yeah, I just want to make sure.
Speaker 3Oh, okay, julie bowen, okay, I'm just making sure, oh do you not listen to me? No, well, I just the delivery and how you said it. I just wasn't, you know, I'm just making sure. Come on, do you not listen to me? No, well, I just the delivery and how you said it. I just wasn't, you know, I'm just making sure. All right, no, hey, great choice, great choice, golf clap, I'm not, I just wanted to make sure that was who you were saying, that's all 100%.
Speaker 1We're on the same page.
Speaker 3Absolutely, scott. It's always a pleasure to to join the podcast with you. Folks love you all to death. Can't wait for what's coming up with the NFL season. And hey, as the best homie always says, buh-bye.
