Speaker: Rob Steele
Jesus confronts a dangerous drift: faithfully following rules while missing the heart of God behind them. In Mark 2:23–3:6, the Pharisees’ commitment to maintaining religious systems leads them to value regulation over restoration, revealing how easily obedience can become disconnected from mercy. Through His words and actions, Jesus makes clear that God’s law was always meant to bring life, compassion, and relationship—not burden or harm. This passage exposes how a distorted view of God results in a distorted treatment of people and how hardened hearts form over time when systems are protected above all else. The call is clear: choose mercy over maintenance, and reflect the heart of a Savior who came not to preserve a system, but to restore people.
